With this week’s Battlefield 2042 title update, DICE has also rolled out the Battlefield 2042 Portal Zombie Survival playlist as the featured Battlefield Portal Experience. If you’re one of the many who played it, you might have noticed that the mode has been giving out a lot more XP than usual, and it seems DICE has noticed, as the playlist has been removed.

The Battlefield Portal Zombie Survival mode has been replaced by Gun Master 2042, which as one might expect, reins in how XP is doled out. This was announced earlier today by the Battlefield Direct Communication Twitter:
We have removed Zombie Survival as this weeks featured #Battlefield Portal experience and replaced it with Gun Master 2042

For those wondering what the heck just happned, Ripple Effect Studios’ Senior Design Directo Justin Wiebe admitted that the mode shouldn’t have gotten through the studio’s review process.
I’m not going to lie, this one shouldn’t have gotten through our review process. I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode clouded our ability to see such a simple thing like the impact it would have on progression. I’m very sorry for the hardship this has caused. https://t.co/01MXOdWGN5

I have to admit, DICE and Ripple Effect are in a strange spot when it comes to playlists, gameplay adjustments, and just in how they handle Battlefield 2042 overall. It seems there’s a certain disconnect between devs, and even among players on just what the game should be, and what it needs. Let’s hope this is sorted out soon, before more players drop the game in favor of other shooters.
