Not a fan of the Specialists in Battlefield 2042? Hoping they’ll be removed in future patches? If you’re hoping for that, we have some bad news for you. DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 Specialists will stay in the game, but are being “reworked.”

Over on Twitter, DICE Game Designer Frederik Drabert confirmed this when asked by a fan:
Specialists will not be removed but reworked.

For those thinking it’s DICE just being stubborn, nope. Drabert explained tat it’s not just a simple matter of plucking them out, and inserting classes back in.
It is not that easy. I saw the community proposals (kudos to everyone who put effort in it) and there is more design work required. The specialists touch a lot of parts in the game that need to be considered during a redesign. So it‘s more than take it and code it.

As one might expect, Specialists are part of the core experience of BF2042, and simply taking them out will probably cause more issues than it solves.
Speaking of Specialists, it seems one of the ones DICE has planned to be in the game (maybe at some point or in the future) has been datamined! Spotted by reliable Battlefield dataminer temporyal, check out “Hale,” who seems to be a Specialist with drones. There are two other Specialist names unearthed called “Liz” and “Crawford” but not a lot of info about them has been dug up.
Unreleased specialists in #Battlefield 2042:
🔹 Hale
🔹 Liz
🔹 CrawfordAn ingame challenge for Hale requires "RC Drone Assists". Speculation: The official art book features images of an unknown character using a ground drone. This could be Hale…

Here’s to hoping that DICE can somehow rework these Specialists enough, that they’ll be as good as classes were in past Battlefield games.
Don’t forget, a new patch is set for release next week for BF2042, and it will feature over 400 fixes.
As long as thier are specialists and no factions I won’t be buying this game again.
