Battlefield 2042’s New Update Wants Players to Know Battlefield 6 Is Coming
DICE has quietly released a new Battlefield 2042 update across consoles and PC. With the timing exactly the day when Battlefield 6’s multiplayer is revealed, you’d be correct to assume the two are connected.
Players will see the patch download appear as Battlefield 2042 update version 1.000.076/1.73, but don’t expect much out of this update, as it doesn’t seem to address anything other than to let players know that Battlefield 6 is arriving soon.
DICE Begins Promoting Battlefield 6 In Other Battlefield Games
Traditionally, whenever a new Battlefield game is announced, DICE will let players across all active Battlefield games know that there’s a new game. Battlefield 6 is no exception to this rule, as the studio released a new update for Battlefield 2042 earlier today. They shared no notes on what exactly it did, but players didn’t really need them, as upon logging in, they were greeted with a Battlefield 6 countdown timer and banner, with a link to the platform’s respective storefronts for pre-ordering.

Additionally, a new Battlefield 6 tab has been added to the menu, which displays the same information as above.
We can’t say we’re surprised, as DICE always does this for their current Battlefield game whenever a new one is released. Still, it’s nice to see and inform the players who may not have been aware of the new one. Hard to believe that’s possible, but who knows?
As we look ahead to the release of Battlefield 6, we suspect that DICE will drop the extensive technical support for Battlefield 2042 as they put all their focus on the new one. Especially since Battlefield 6 already seems to be resonating with the fanbase a lot more than Battlefield 2042, which is even more evident in our hands-on Battlefield 6 preview, where we highlight the franchise’s return to form. Only time will tell if that actually ends up being the case, but thankfully, we won’t have long to find out as Battlefield 6 launches this October.
