Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Are Now Available on PS5 and PS4, but They Are Supremely Underwhelming
Three weeks ago, we reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 would be ported to the PS4 and PS5, and would be released in July and include multiplayer.
That day is today, but be prepared to be underwhelmed given the price and what we’re getting.
If you were hoping to see a resurgence for the classic games, where you’ll be fragging with your Xbox or PC friends, we’re here to tell you, that’s not happening, and it’s so much worse than expected.
Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Re-releases Have No Crossplay Support and Are Crazy Expensive
Black Ops and Black Ops 2’s multiplayer are what many consider the best of the franchise. Unfortunately, the ports are very underwhelming.
Not only do each game cost $40, but they don’t even include the DLCs! If you’re interested in those, you’ll have to buy them separately.
If that’s not bad enough, these ports do not feature crossplay support, so you won’t be able to play with Xbox and PC players.
Still not bad enough? Not only is there no crossplay support, but even among each other too. PS4 players won’t be able to play against those who own the native PS5 version. While PS5 gamers can buy the PS4 version in order to play with gamers on that platform, there is no way for PS4 buyers to play against/with those on PS5.
In short: these ports cost a lot, does not include the DLCs, and do not support crossplay.
There are also a number of features and modes that were removed such as:
- No Ranked mode (understandable)
- No leaderboards
- No wager natches
- No Theater mode
- Online player counter removed
There are also no graphical facelifts or added features or anything of the sort either. These are just straight ports re-released and sold at high prices.
While there is a chance Treyarch updates these two titles to add the missing features or crossplay, it doesn’t seem likely.
At the end of the day, it’s up to gamers whether they want a piece of nostalgia with these titles, but we’re here to tell you, keep your expectations in check.
