Dark Souls 2 and DS3 Servers Offline With No Timetable on When It’ll Be Back Up
For those playing through FromSoftware’s classic titles Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, you might have seen the game inaccessible online for more than a day now.
If so, it’s not just you, as the studio is experiencing security issues that have prevented it from getting the games’ servers back up and running.
The worst part? There is no timetable on when we can expect the servers to be back for both games.
Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 Are Offline Due to Security Issues
The downtime started on October 30, Friday, in the afternoon across all platforms. FromSoftware has confirmed it is affecting both Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, with the end time marked as “TBD” or To Be Determined, meaning the studio does not have a locked schedule for when the servers will go back up.
The reason for the maintenance is “due to a security issue on the game server,” which could mean they are getting attacked (DDoS), compromised, or something else. FromSoftware has not gone into detail about what this security issue is.
While online gameplay isn’t available, offline is, so there’s at least that.
The studio has also apologized for the inconvenience and asks players to be patient while it conducts this maintenance.
Will this last for more than a week? Hopefully not, but it seems like a serious matter to keep the game offline this long. Thankfully, it’s not required to be online when playing single-player, so players can at least get pummeled by the game’s enemies until they’re sick of it.
While Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 aren’t exactly new games, there are still dedicated players for the titles given the popularity of the franchise and its developer, FromSoftware. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware might not be working on Dark Souls 4, but they did release a remaster of the first game in 2018.
As for FromSoftware’s more recent games, Elden Ring recently received a game update to plug in that arrow exploit.
