Disney Reportedly Considering Epic Games and Fortnite Purchase
While Disney+ continues to grow its content library, the company is reportedly considering the purchase of Epic Games and Fortnite.
It is worth remembering that Tim Sweeney’s company is at least 40% owned by Tencent, so it remains unclear how such a deal could actually be carried out.
Disney Eyeing Possible Epic Games Deal

The information comes from reputable technology reporter Alex Heath, who discussed the topic during Matthew Belloni’s podcast The Town. According to Heath, he knows “for a fact” that senior executives at Disney want to buy Epic Games and are “waiting for the right moment.”
He said, “I think if Epic ever sold, if it ever decided to call it quits on being an independent company, Disney would be the most natural home for it for a lot of reasons.”
According to Heath, some of those reasons include the possible integration of Fortnite into Disney parks or bringing Disney IPs into the battle royale game.
At the same time, he also noted, “you have to understand that Epic is a founder-controlled company, so Tim Sweeney, the founder, has full voting stock control and can make unilateral decisions.”
Heath also mentioned that Disney is looking to expand its presence in gaming, although some people inside the company reportedly see the move as a bad idea.
Part of that concern comes from Disney’s limited presence in the gaming industry outside of Marvel. Disney’s major franchises have had mixed results in gaming, with some titles performing well, while others were cancelled or remain stuck in long development cycles.
