Fallout 76 Down on June 2 to Bring the Infestation Update
Bethesda has taken the Fallout 76 servers down on June 2, and this is to bring the Infestation patch. If you’re having issues connecting, or suddenly find yourself booted out of a game, then you now know why.
Same as with any downtime for the game, this will take a few hours across all platforms.

Fallout 76 Servers Down and Out for a Few Hours to Apply a Major Update
Per Bethesda, today’s downtime begins at 10 am ET/7 am PT/9 am CT and should last at least 3-4 hours. Note that this sometimes extends longer, so don’t be surprised if you can’t connect to the game even after applying today’s update, which should be released shortly even if the servers are offline.
As to what to expect, here’s a few key info you’ll need to know about Infestation based on the recent developer deep dive.
New Dynamic World Events
- Over 40 locations can randomly become Infestation sites.
- Players won’t know beforehand which location will be affected or what enemy type will take over.
Higher Difficulty
- Infestations are designed as endgame-oriented encounters.
- Enemies are tougher than standard world spawns and are intended to challenge coordinated groups
- Better Rewards
- Completing Infestations can award valuable loot.
- Bethesda specifically highlighted opportunities to earn 4-star Legendary weapons and armor mods, giving high-level players new reasons to participate.
More Variety in the Open World
- Areas that players may have considered “safe” or routine can now suddenly become dangerous.
- The system is intended to keep exploration fresh and make Appalachia feel more alive and reactive.
