Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 Side-by-Side Comparison: Here’s How Much the Visuals Have Changed 18 Years Later
Next week, Metal Gear Solid fans will be able to play the latest game under the franchise brand with the release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2.
While this isn’t a full-on remake like Metal Gear Solid Delta, Konami still put in the work to make the visuals a lot better.

MGS Master Collection Vol. 2 Features High-Res Textures, Better Effects and More
Konami, in all truth, could have taken the shortcut here with the MGS4 port. People just wanted it off the PS3, and that would have been enough for most, but no, they instead went back and touched up as much as they could. This includes higher-resolution textures, better shadows, effects, draw distance, and so much more.
The details are crisp and even richer because of it. It does make me go, “this is how I remember the game looking,” but that’s not reality at all. This is a vast improvement over the original, and it’s done in a way that doesn’t change the art direction or misinterpret the original vision. I mean, just check out the opening title screen and see what a massive difference they are. We’ve included platform tags, but honestly you should be able to tell which platform is which from the improvements.

MGS4 Remaster makes this package alone well worth it, but we also compare Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as well. Originally released on the PlayStation Portable in 2010, it’s understandable if the visuals aren’t as detailed and crisp as its big brother console brethren. Peace Walker is based on the HD Collection, except Konami added an option to make the graphic novel cutscenes higher resolution. You know, being images and all, you wouldn’t think there would be much to improve upon. Yeah, how very wrong I am.
While we’re hoping Konami does full-on remakes of the Metal Gear Solid franchise after the success of Delta, the Master Collections should scratch that itch for now.
