New Horizon Game Confirmed as Studio Director Leaves Guerrilla for PlayStation Studios

horizon multiplayer leak

Guerrilla Games‘ Studio Director and Executive Producer Angie Smets has announced that she is moving to PlayStation Studios as Head of Development Strategy. Guerrilla has issued a farewell statement for Smets, in which a new Horizon game as well as an “exciting online project” have been both revealed to be in development.

Smets has spent the last two decades at Guerrilla Games, overseeing the development of Killzone as well as the Horizon IP. The developer celebrated her team and accomplishments at the studio as follows:

These past two decades at Guerrilla have been an absolute dream. I feel privileged to have worked alongside some of the smartest and coolest people in the industry. I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned alongside all the other Guerrillas. We have accomplished so much as a team, and I’m incredibly proud of all the games we’ve shipped together.

A special shoutout to Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw. It feels like just yesterday that we were figuring out how to make and ship the first Killzone. Little did we know that we would eventually lead Guerrilla together. You’ve become like brothers to me, and there’s no way to thank you enough. I will miss you dearly.

Besides announcing her managerial replacements (Joel Eschler as Studio Director and Production Director, Hella Schmidt as Studio Director and General Manager, and Jan-Bart van Beek as Studio Director and Art Director), Guerrilla also revealed the existence of an upcoming Horizon Forbidden West sequel, as well as an “exciting online project:”

We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project. Michiel van der Leeuw (Technical Director) will be focusing on the future technology and strategy for the Decima engine.

We at MP1st broke the news of an upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn remake as well as a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe back in October of last year. The online project was essentially confirmed later in December with Guerrilla posting job listings for the project (as well as other Horizon games), though it has not been confirmed to be the rumored NCSoft-developed MMORPG. Leaked concept art and developer footage from the multiplayer game can be checked out here for those who wish to see what Guerrilla is intending to accomplish with the project.
