One of the many things that changed in Overwatch 2 from the original game was its ranked system, and as you may expect from a competitive game, not everybody’s happy with it. A recent tweet reveals that there will be a blog post on Overwatch 2 Competitive Mode changes coming fairly soon, but it won’t involve the system returning to its original Overwatch 1 design.

The blog post announcement was made by OW2 Executive Producer Jared Neuss in a reply to a tweet that criticized the game’s matchmaking system.
Changes are coming (we’re sharing details in a blog very soon) but we aren’t planning to revert to an OW1 model.
The new system has good goals but the implementation needs work and has to be adapted based on player feedback, like yours. That’s what we’ll be talking about.

Overwatch 2 devs have been quite open about feedback and conversation regarding the game’s updates and direction over on Twitter. Neuss also revealed earlier this month that the game would receive updates in Season 3 that addressed the lack of rewards. Another Twitter conversation with Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson mentioned that the game would release more support heroes in the near future. This statement would later be reaffirmed in an interview with Aaron Keller, the game’s director, who mentioned that the next two heroes would be Supports.
We don’t know the specifics regarding Overwatch 2’s Competitive Mode and ranked system updates, but once we learn more, we’ll let you know.
Overwatch 2 is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
