The release of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox remains shrouded in mystery, with little new information provided by Microsoft. The highly anticipated game, developed by Game Science, has yet to arrive on Xbox consoles, despite being announced as a multiplatform title. The latest development came during an interview with Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer, where he was asked directly about the game’s arrival on Xbox.

The question came up in an interview with Game File (paywalled), where journalist Stephen Totilo asked Spencer, “Do you know if you’re getting Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox at some point?” Spencer replied, “I do know.” However, when Totilo followed up with, “Are you getting it?” Spencer only responded with, “I can’t announce that,” while laughing.

While Spencer’s vague response might seem playful, it only adds to the growing speculation about why the game hasn’t been released on Xbox yet. Black Myth: Wukong was originally announced as a multiplatform game, but so far, it has only been released on PC and PS5.

Previously, it was reported that the delay for the Xbox version was due to the game suffering from a memory leak, which caused significant crashes. However, rumors have persisted about a possible temporary exclusivity deal with Sony. Microsoft has consistently stated that it cannot comment on “the deals made by our partners with other platform holders.” This statement has only fueled speculation, and Spencer’s latest comment seems to further support these rumors.

It’s also possible that Spencer simply doesn’t want to make an official announcement before it’s ready, especially with major events like The Game Awards approaching, where they might be planning to announce Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox

However, it’s curious that he didn’t even confirm the game’s eventual release on the platform, which raises questions about potential communication issues or the timing of any announcements.

Meanwhile, it’s also worth noting that Black Myth: Wukong was recently rated for Xbox Series X|S by the ESRB, which suggests that an official announcement could be coming soon.

In other Black Myth: Wukong news, the game had a development budget of $70 million, and it has reportedly generated nearly $1 billion in revenue.
