Sony’s President Says PS5 Pro Pricing Hasn’t Had a Negative Impact on Sales, “Hardcore Users” Are Their Targeted Audience
Despite some of the consensus on the internet that the PS5 Pro is overpriced and not worth it, it seems that those comments haven’t had much, if any, of an impact on sales, and that’s according to Sony’s president Hiroki Totoki.
As spotted by Genki_JPN, Sony’s president, Hiroki Totoki, responded to those comments in a Q&A during Sony’s quarterly earnings report, noting that he thinks they have had no impact on the newly revised console when it comes to sales.
“In terms of the pricing many people made different comments on that, but pricing on PS5 pro has not had a negative impact I don’t think.”
He goes on to say that their current target audience isn’t your everyday casual gamer but rather the “hardcore” audience of gamers, those looking for the best possible experience possible when it comes to fidelity and performance, though clearly aren’t PC gamers.
With a hefty $700 price tag that may potentially go above $1000 thanks to planned tariffs from the newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, we can understand why so many on the internet would criticize the price. It’s a big chunk of change, even if the rave reviews it has gotten and the clear jumps in both visual quality and performance, many feel the pricing may be a sign of what’s to expect from the next-gen of consoles.
Still, while it may not be on par with sales of the regular PS5 (assumingly) Sony clearly has different sales targets for the PS5 Pro, which may prove to be successful by their own margins.
It will be interesting to see just how well. Given that this is the second “Pro” console they’ve done, the first being with the PS4 Pro, we’re sure the company knows exactly what to expect this time around, and likely has expectations in check, otherwise why even bother doing another Pro console if the first time they did it wasn’t considered a success.
The PS5 Pro is now available worldwide for purchase, and retails for $700 USD.
