Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Will Let Players Choose a More Classic, Or Survivor Experience; Can Avoid Crafting & Progression Systems
With Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics aims to not only deliver an updated and upgraded version of the original in terms of graphics, but even its gameplay mechanics have been updated too.
This means that Crystal Dynamics added new progression systems to keep gamers engaged and have something to look forward to outside of the main story arc.
However, some gamers might not want that, and instead opt for a more classic Tomb Raider game. If you’re one of those people, we have good news for you: Legacy of Atlantis will cater to both.
Legacy of Atlantis Will Give Players Freedom in What Tomb Raider They Want to Experience
Speaking to MP1st in an exclusive interview, Experience Director Jeff Adams explains how players can choose to ignore progression and other new additions if they want to experience that core Tomb Raider feel.
MP1st: Will players be able to choose between a classic-style experience and a more modern gameplay approach? For example, will there be options for camera behavior, controls, puzzle assistance, and difficulty?
Adams answered, “Yes! We want to give players all the abilities that they need to fine tune the experience to their liking. For example, if you grew up with the original 1996 game or want the more cerebral and isolating puzzle experience, you can increase the difficulty of puzzles while dialing back the difficulty of combat.
For those who grew up or have fond memories of the Survivor era of Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics hasn’t forgotten about you. “Conversely, if you came up with the Survivor era and really like combat, you can increase the difficulty of that. It’s up to the individual player and how they want to experience the game. We know there are some players out there who just want to use the dual pistols to run the game and not engage in any progression or crafting systems, and they can absolutely do that. But if you want to add buffers to Lara’s combat abilities, utilize additional weapons, and use the scanner to get some puzzle hints, that’s fully available to you. It’s all about player agency,” says Adams.
This is definitely good news for those who are not fans of crafting and whatnot, and would just go head-on the shooting and puzzle-solving.
In the same interview, Adams confirmed to us that Legacy of Atlantis will take 14-16 hours to complete.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released on February 12, 2027, for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.
