Destiny 2 Update 4.03 | 1.198 Brings Eververse Fixes and It’s Not Going Over Well With the Community
As part of today’s maintenance, Bungie has released Destiny 2 update 4.03 | 1.198, which brings the game to version 9.7.0.6 on all platforms.
Given the game’s live service support has ended, don’t expect much from these updates outside of fixes.
Today’s patch is something… different. Don’t believe me? Read the official changelog from the developers, and how the community isn’t really glad we received an update today.
Destiny 2 Eververse Bug Squashed by Latest Patch; Community Calls Out Bungie
Per Bungie, today’s changelog lists:
Eververse
- Fixed an issue where purchasing certain items with Bright Dust would incorrectly unlock additional cosmetics.
Yep, that’s about it. It essentially took out the extra cosmetics players were getting. While it is a bug, it is a pretty harmless one at that, though it’s not ideal for Bungie given this bug might have cost them real-world money from players unlocking stuff for free, instead of buying it.
Naturally, this did not sit well with the player base.
One community member even said, “Bungie waking up from its grave to fix an eververse bug that benefits the player.”
Another rant says, “I know this isn’t the end of the world. But its this shit that clearly and directly goes against all the marketing bullshit they say….I didn’t jump into D2 till final shape ended and I got the collection for $20. I stopped playing after Destiny 1 House of wolves when it was proven that House of wolves and crota’s end were both already on the disc and purposely held from the player. But people don’t have no backbones which is why Bungie has forever gone away with all this nonsense including taking away people’s content which all of a sudden now they want to give back and that really sweet video they made. And people all of a sudden have forgave them or got real lenient and real happy and all. Is just so annoying how the truth is. Companies are always just one good PR move away from people just dropping all their pitchforks and pretending like they were never f***** over to begin with.”
Sadly, this might not be Bungie’s call at all. The studio is owned by Sony, and given this affects the bottom line, this could be Sony pushing for the update to be released ASAP since it affects microtransactions.
Players will have a chance for their voices to be heard, as Bungie has promised more stories and games in the Destiny universe are in the works.
