STALKER 2 Version 2.0 “Back to the Zone” Live on August 20 via Patch 1.016
Visual Evolution
The lighting in the Zone has been changed significantly. The sun still shines brightly outside, but it now plays differently across the environment on the ground — shadows and reflections included. We’ve also improved indoor lighting to feel more realistic, both inside buildings and in underground locations.
On top of that, we’ve reworked the landscape and foliage to look more natural, and fixed hundreds of issues with levitating items — along with other miscellaneous bugs that felt like anomalies were turning up in the wrong places.
A-Life updates
A-Life now simulates more believable behaviour — the Zone isn’t one constant gunfight. It’s a lonely place where life carries on by its own rules, and every encounter or firefight is the result of stalkers and mutants simply doing stalker and mutant things.
In practice: living creatures now have more places to be. More campfires, bus stops, and other points of interest are contested between stalkers and mutants. Stalkers across the Zone loot the fallen all the time — not just when you’re around to see it.
We’ve also done plenty of under-the-hood work on game mechanics that weren’t strictly A-Life but certainly felt like it: enemies occasionally shooting or throwing things through walls, sudden overpopulation of certain areas, and dozens of other fixes.
Customize your survival experience
Want more hardcore fights but a less punishing economy? Or do you find dodging anomalies far harder than managing coupons? With this update, we’re introducing a “Custom Rules” difficulty — tune the settings yourself to craft your ideal experience.
As a side note: a while back we introduced the “Master” difficulty, along with a toggleable “Expedition” mode for the other difficulty levels. Give both a try if you’re after a more hardcore stalker experience.
Binoculars!
Not one, but three types of binoculars are now at a stalker’s disposal. Scout your surroundings, identify friends or targets, and plan your engagements well in advance. Each is equipped with different tech, with its own functionality and purpose. Find the one you prefer out in the Zone — or from certain traders for a less-than-fair price.
New weapons and scopes to use
New toys keep getting smuggled through the Perimeter wall somehow — like the Arev (AR), GP3A (DMR), SKP (DMR), and Fora-230 (SMG). Better to try them yourself than have us explain how they handle in combat. And somewhere in the Zone, you’ll even find a unique variant of one of them.
Your scope options have widened too: a new x3 scope for Western-bloc weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern ones. Customise your loadout to fit your playstyle! Oh, and offset aiming is now no longer limited to NVGs.
Fog covers the Zone’s landscape
Not just weather, but a full-scale gameplay mechanic for every stalker to utilize. In the fog you and your enemies will see less — and even hear less. Use it to your advantage to play things sneaky, or simply soak in the atmosphere it brings to the Zone. It’s up to you.
Along with the updated visuals, we’ve also reworked the Light Rainy weather scenario to look even more breathtaking.
New PDA page to track your progress
How many bullets have you wasted? What’s your weapon of choice? Which mutant is your favourite to run into and put down? From now on, all of this and much more is tracked on your PDA’s new “Statistics” page. Track it, share it — it’s up to you.
Fauna enhancements
Around the Zone, you may now be attacked by bloodsuckers that look different depending on their habitat. The same goes for Fleshes.
STALKER 2 Cost of Hope DLC Info
WHAT IS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: COST OF HOPE?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope is the first major expansion for Heart of Chornobyl, launching on August 20, 2026, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5|PS5 Pro. It includes a huge new storyline that can take dozens of hours to complete, two new regions — including, among others, the legendary CNPP and Iron Forest — new and returning characters, and much more.
All owners of the Ultimate Edition or Season Pass of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be granted access to the Cost of Hope automatically. Owners of the Standard and Deluxe Editions of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl can either update their version of the game to Ultimate Edition (and get all its additional bonuses), or purchase the DLC as a separate item.
HOW TO START THE DLC
The expansion’s protagonist is Skif, and the events unfold in parallel with the story of Heart of Chornobyl. After installing the DLC, during your playthrough of the main campaign you’ll receive a signal on your PDA that will start the expansion’s storyline.
The DLC content is split between two parts of the game. The first becomes available shortly after leaving the Lesser Zone closer to the beginning of the game, while the second unlocks after completing the A Minor Incident main story mission. For players’ convenience, we’ve added shortcuts to the main menu that let you skip directly to the DLC content. If you choose to use this feature, there are several options available:
- Select New Game → DLC Content, then choose Skip Ahead to The Cost of Hope.
- Early Start skips the game to the point where the first part of the DLC becomes available. Advanced Start skips ahead to a later stage of the main story, where both parts of the DLC are available.
- Advanced Start places you at a point in the game where several faction-related choices have already been made in the main story. Choose Advanced Start – Spark or Advanced Start – Ward, depending on your preference. This choice does not affect the DLC content. It only applies to the main game and its storyline.
- For players focused on the DLC, Advanced Start is the recommended option. All Update 2.0 features are available regardless of your starting point, while the open-world structure allows you to leave the DLC path at any time and freely explore the Zone.
If the roundup of new content nnd features isn’t enough, the complete patch notes are available below, and this animal is huge!
