Larian Wants to “Absolutely Demolish” Steam Again With Divinity Release
As many may remember, when Baldur’s Gate 3 was released, Steam faced heavy traffic and it caused technical issues because so many players were trying to play the game at the same time.
This became a clear sign of how successful Baldur’s Gate 3 was, and now Larian Studios hopes to do even better by “absolutely demolishing” Steam again with the release of its new Divinity game.
Larian Hopes to Repeat Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam Overload With Divinity

Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, shared an online post showing that the team keeps a framed copy in the office of an old article about Steam’s technical issues during the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Douse wrote, “Walked past this in the office. Forgot this happened. At the time we even fact checked it with Valve. I hope we absolutely demolish it next time. You remember so little when doing so much.”
The new Divinity game was officially revealed during The Game Awards 2025 with a trailer. Larian also made it clear that this is not Divinity: Original Sin 3. Even though it returns to the world of Rivellon and follows the legacy of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the studio says it is a completely new game and not a direct sequel.
The project is described as Larian’s most ambitious RPG so far, with the goal of being “way better” than Baldur’s Gate 3. It will remain a turn-based role-playing game and will use a new and improved version of Larian’s own game engine.
At the moment, Larian has not revealed a release date yet, and it is likely that the game will not launch this year. However, we may hear more about it during The Game Awards 2026. As more information about the project unfolds, we will be sure to keep you updated here at MP1st.
