In case you didn’t know, a report surfaced this week that EA held an internal “Town Hall” meeting to discuss the Battlefield 2042 launch failure when it comes to engaging fans, and to deliver a solid gaming experience. According to the report, EA Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele blamed the COVID-19 pandemic, and 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite as causes why the most recent Battlefield game failed to sizzle at both the retail charts, and its player base.

In the report, it’s alleged that Miele referred to early reception of BF2042 as “good,” but things took a turn for the worse when free-to-play Halo Infinite multiplayer was released, and the two games were compared, with Microsoft’s game being the more polished experience, this highlighted BF2042’s bugs and issues even more.
Now, in a statement sent to PCGamer, EA Communications VP John Reseburg states that the narrative from that report does not accurately reflect the discussion and context.
These stories are not accurately capturing the discussion and the context, which was an in-depth and very humble internal conversation about the recent Battlefield launch…It was about key learnings and actions we are taking, not blaming external factors. – EA Communications VP, John Reseburg
There’s no doubt now that Battlefield 2042 failed to sell as much as EA would have liked, and it failed the player base too in terms of giving us a solid first-person shooter experience. However, given we don’t have a proper transcript or witness to the meeting (which EA didn’t deny that happened), we can’t say for sure what happened, or if EA really did blame Halo Infinite.
Regardless of the competition, DICE and EA should take a long, hard look at BF2042 and maybe — just maybe — listen to the communty? Here’s to hoping that the next Battlefield game will stick to its roots and not try to reinvent the wheel once again.
