Microsoft Renews Killer Instinct Trademark

The folks over at XBLA have recently dropped some pretty heavy news for fighter fans.

It seems that the Killer Instinct franchise is not dead after all. Play XBLA reports, “We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions.”

The original Killer Instinct saw its inception on arcade in 1994, later released on SNES and Game Boy in 1995. A year later, developers Rare unleashed a sequel, Killer Instinct 2, which eventually its way to the Nintendo 64 in the form of Killer Instinct Gold in November of 1996.

While simply renewing a trademark doesn’t actually indicate that any developmental action is being taken, hopefully we’ll hear more news of a Killer Instinct remake, sequel or reboot making its way to XBLA soon.

Any Killer Instinct fans out there excited about this “killer” news? Let us know in the comments below!
