Phil Spencer Addresses Massive Xbox Leak, Calls It “Old” and How “So Much Has Changed”

The future of Xbox was seemingly leaked earlier today, with news of a mid-gen refresh, next-gen console, more acquisitions, and a number of unannounced titles surfacing from some accidentally published court documents. While there was a lot to digest, many were wondering if we’d hear any official response from the company itself, and sure enough, Xbox’s chief, Phil Spencer, has finally addressed all the commotion from today.

In a response posted on X (formerly Twitter,) Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, came out to acknowledge the leaks, though warned that while the documents were legit, much of the plans outlined in the 2020 emails and documents are “old” have already gone through changes.

“We’ve seen the conversation around old emails and documents. It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed, and there’s so much to be excited about right now and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready.”

It’s not much of a response, if we’re honest, though that is unsurprising, given the nature of the leak and the info in it was intended for internal use only. Still, this makes us curious about what has been changed, as many of the details from the docs seemed to be centered around long-term goals rather than short-term ones. I guess we’ll have to sit tight to hear about all this from the company themselves. If some leaks come to fruition, we suspect we’ll hear more of these plans in 2024, the targeted year for the mid-gen Xbox Series X refresh.

As always, we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
