Metal Slug Tactics Hands-On Preview – Roguelite of War

Metal Slug is taking a significant leap from the traditional side-scrolling run-and-gun action to a turn-based tactical game with Metal Slug Tactics, a spin-off by Dotemu. This adaptation remains faithful to the pixelated charm of the original games, while putting a nice twist on the core gameplay, delivering a challenge that is likely to be fun both for fans of the franchise as to those who like their roguelite strategy games regardless of theme.

Army of Three

Metal Slug Tactics Hands-On Preview

Even if you’re not familiar with the franchise, the timeless appeal of these accomplished pixel soldiers remains as true as ever. It’s colorful and catchy, animations are smooth and detailed, quite the draw for any player who feels the slightest interest in these turn-based wars. The name doesn’t hide its intents as well, it’s something Tactics and that is bound to hint at what players will be doing in the battlefield – no itchy trigger fingers, no rushing through waves of enemies with the precision of an eagle to avoid incoming projectiles; no, this time, it’s all about thinking ahead, planning, inspecting the battleground and seeing where we can strike before we get hit.

Each operative from your army of three has movement and action points, and also earns adrenaline to spend in special abilities. The first two are self-explanatory, while adrenaline is your resource to call for other actions such as air strikes, a motorbike that runs over whoever is in the way, among other things that are specific to each soldier. This playable build featured four, all of them familiar faces and with different loadouts – Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma – but many more are likely to join when the game fully releases. It should be said that secondary weapons for each operative pack quite a punch but come with limited uses, unlike the main weapon.

There are spots to gain cover on the battlefield, crucial to staying out of enemy fire, but these can be destroyed as well. The iconic tanks that fans know and love make an appearance, you can seize control and use their varied firepower to tip the scales, but beware as their armor won’t last forever and friendly fire is a thing, so avoid standing in the way of your itchy-trigger companions.

Metal Slug Tactics Hands-On Preview

One very interesting feature and something you absolutely can’t ignore unless you want your operatives turned into dead meat is the sync mechanic. With it, an isolated action may turn into a combined attack that ends up in a valuable extra shot. If you line up an operative with an enemy and initiate the attack with other character, both will take a shot and deal twice the damage, something that can be used frequently for as long as you have the clarity to prepare the assault.

Dying is not the end… well, it is in a sense, but with the experience earned you will gain access to new mods and weapons that slowly but surely give you the upper hand. Just like any other roguelite, it is meant to be difficult at first, the challenge opening up as you gradually get stronger and your operatives climb ranks, with more mods and abilities to choose from. Coins can also be spent on more weapons and mods to reflect a more diverse loadout for the subsequent runs.

Metal Roguelite

Metal Slug Tactics Hands-On Preview

Metal Slug Tactics is shaping up to be a fun, pretty, and engaging roguelite. You could replace the franchise’s characters and style for some generic soldiers and atmosphere and it would still play the part, so it’s even better with this strong and clear identity to it. Far from a rushed spin-off like we see so many, it does make complete sense and could be a great companion to the run-and-gun platformers that made the joy of so many players. How it will fare in terms of depth and long-standing enjoyment is yet to be seen, but so far this is looking like a bullseye.

MP1st was given access to a preview build of Metal Slug Tactics for our hands-on session. Metal Slug Tactics is launching for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2024.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Update 1.51 Whips Out for Final Content Patch This June 11

ArtPlay has pushed out the last content update for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night this July 11! Players will be able to download Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night update 1.51 right now, and this is to usher in the “Classic II Dominique’s Curse” DLC.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Update 1.51 Patch Notes for June 11:

Classic II: Dominique’s Curse DLC Price: $9.99 USD / €9.99 / £7.99 GBP

An all-new Bloodstained adventure awaits! Dominique may have been defeated, but she is not finished. After being defeated by Miriam, Dominique falls to Limbo. She seeks to steal Bael’s power and escape to the mortal realm where she will have her revenge! It will be no easy task; a realm of demons and dangerous dungeons stand in her way.

Explore a massive new map with retro gameplay that takes Classic Mode to a whole new level.

Acquire valuable abilities and artifacts that will add to Dominique’s power. Speak to friendly demons to gather clues…but beware the waning moon! When the moon changes, friends become foes.

Classic II: Dominique’s Curse bring new storyline, a new list of achievements and a whole new adventure to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night!

Read on to learn more about this new Premium DLC mode.

Gameplay

The game begins with Dominique cast into Limbo, a strange and dangerous realm populated only with demons. Lost and stripped of her powers, she begins with no items, no skills and no idea where to go. Her only advantage is her thirst for revenge.

Driven by her goal, she must speak to the friendly demons, search Limbo for powerful artifacts, find useful equipment and acquire new skills until she is unstoppable. Only then can she reach Bael, steal his power, and escape back to the mortal realm!

In Limbo, unique areas exist and await Dominique. The Field Areas are wild lands where every demon is dangerous. Dominique must fight her way through these areas to discover new lands, new towns and new dungeons. Some areas will remain inaccessible until Dominique learns specific skills or has a special item required to proceed. At the far reaches of the maps are dangerous dungeons that must be safely navigated and its demon lord defeated if Dominique hopes to gain the powers she needs to face Bael.

Towns offer a respite from the dangers of the Field Areas. They are filled with friendly demons, merchants and temples where progress can be saved. But safety is always fleeting. When lit under the Dead Moon, even those tame demons become foes.

Exploration Reveals Treasures

Limbo is an extensive realm with multiple areas to explore as well as towns and dungeons. Each level is full of dangerous demons as well as powerful magic and mysterious items that can help Dominique on her journey. These resources and power-ups can be found in chests or looted from vanquished demons. Throughout the map, resources that have been collected can be traded with merchants in the towns or groundskeepers in the wilds for useful items such as healing potions, extra lives, waystones and more. The most powerful magic will be hidden within the dungeons.

Game Menu and Map

The in-game menu is comprised of 3 sections, Player, Item, and Information. You are able to check the Map separately.

The Map

The map is Dominique’s guide to Limbo. She begins only being able to see her current location. As Dominique explores new areas, they will appear on the map. Map icons will show Dominique’s location as well as the locations of merchants, groundskeepers and Hunters. A checkmark will appear when that dungeon is cleared.

Player

The Player screen details the magical abilities and skills that Dominique has acquired throughout her journey. Conjure shards use Mana Roses that are collected in the world to power their effects. Dominique can only equip one of these effects at a time, though this can be changed at any time in the menu. Passive shards are always on when they are equipped, but only one can be equipped a time.

Some of these passives are required to access certain areas of the map while others can help in combat or exploration. Skills are tied to controller / keyboard commands and are available for use as soon as Dominique learns them.

Items

The items page lists all of the individual items that Dominique has acquired such as potions to restore health or magic points. Ancient artifacts have their own powers such as the ability to change the cycle of the moon, affect Dominique’s luck and other effects. Below the physical items is the count of coins and remains, the currency of merchants and groundskeepers.

Info

In the Information menu, you will be able to gain all the different information gained during the journey. Conversations with the demons may contain helpful hints you can benefit from. Each town has its own section, so it is easy to determine if any demons in a specific town have not been met yet.

With the Logaeth Pages section, you can check the information you have discovered. Collecting as many pages as possible may bring some luck to Dominique’s journey.

After five years since launch, ArtPlay is finally moving on from Ritual of the Night! If we do get another patch, we’ll let our readers know. As someone who loved the game, I personally can’t wait what the dev team does next.

Battlefield 2042 Update 1.55 Brings Patch 7.3.0 and Adds Reporting Option This June 11

DICE has rolled out another wave of gameplay adjustments to Battlefield 2042, and this time, there’s also new stuff to help combat toxicity. The Battlefield 2042 update 1.55 download has been pushed, with current-gen owners seeing this as patch version 1.000.058.

Read on for the complete patch notes and info on the new reporting addition.

Battlefield 2042 Update 1.55 Patch Notes for June 11, 2024:

BF2042 Update Version 1.000.058 on Current-Gen

Download Size: 2.1GB (PS5)

Vehicles

  • Fixed an issue with damage over time of Kerosene Bombs when being too close to its death zone radius.
  • Increased the XFAD-4 Draugr’s AP cannon damage vs other air vehicles by 20%.
  • DRFM jammer will now protect against all locks for 5 seconds.
    • The weapon description has been updated to reflect this change.

Developer comment: We’ve seen your feedback around weapon lock-ons against the XFAD-4 Draugr and how little counterplay exists around it. We are therefore adding a lock-on protection to the DRFM jammer that will protect the Draugr against all lock-ons for 5 seconds. This will not protect the vehicle against projectiles already fired but should offer options to avoid getting locked on.

  • Added missing tooltips for various vehicles.
  • EBLC Ram weapon changes:
    • Increased rate of fire of the 40mm cannon  from 140 to 155 and increased blast from 35 to 37.
    • Increased Howitzer impact damage from 40 to 65 to make it more desirable in vehicle combat.

Developer comment: The Missile launcher has been dominating the loadout for the EBLC Ram. These changes are aiming to make the 40mm and Howitzer cannon more competitive options when choosing your loadout.

  • Fixed an issue with the LAV-AD (BF3) getting stuck on certain objects.
  • Fixed an issue with Jets systemic parts getting disabled too quickly.
    • Similar fixes for other vehicles are planned for the next update.

Weapons

  • PP-2000 will now use the correct ammo count in Battlefield Portal experiences (42 ammo)
  • Fixed various visual and sound effects on weapons using different attachments.
  • Lowered AP amp damage from 23 to 21 in 0 to 100 meter range for DFR Strife.
  • Masterkey underbarrel:
    • Maximum pellet dispersion increased from 2 to 2.5 degrees.
    • RPM reduced from 99 to 80.
    • Damage per pellet reduced as follows:
      • From 5 to 10 meters: Reduced damage from 20 to 18.
      • From 10 to 15 meters: Reduced damage from 18 to 16

Developer comment: These changes aim to balance this attachment and reduce its power against short-range primary weapons, while remaining a viable option to add strong CQC capabilities to weapons that otherwise wouldn’t have them.

  • PBX-45
    • Close Combat ammo damage changed:
      • Before 7.3.0: From 0 to 20 meters: 28 damage
      • With 7.3.0: From 0 to 10 meters: 28 damage, from 10 to 20 meters: 24 damage
    • Close Combat ammo dispersion: Dispersion will increase slightly (~8%) faster after the first few shots but maximum dispersion levels remain the same. Bursting and tap firing should yield similar performance as before.
    • High Power ammo damage:
      • Before 7.3.0: 0 to 10 meters: 28 damage
      • With 7.3.0: 0 to 20 meters: 28 damage
    • High Power ammo reload speed penalty reduced

Developer comment: These changes aim to address the overuse and overperformance of the PBX-45 Close Combat ammo setup, which had a notably superior TTK within 20 meters with no equivalent downsides.
TTK with Close Combat will still be the overall fastest of all ammo types within 40 meters, but will require more control at longer distances to stay as accurate as before. High Power ammo will now have more competitive TTK within 20 meters and reload speed to make it a more viable mid-range ammo type option.

Characters and Gadgets

  • Mackay now uses a reload animation everytime the Grappling Hook is equipped.

Battlefield 2042 Additional Reporting Options:

If you or someone else is affected by toxicity, stand up and report players who are using abusive, offensive, or harmful language.

The easiest way to report someone is through the Squad and Players list:

▫️ Open the Pause menu
▫️ Choose Squad and Players.
▫️ Select the player’s name on the list.
▫️ Choose More.
▫️ If you want to report them, select Report.
▫️ Select Abusive Voice Chat.

Learn more about Voice Chat Moderation via the FAQ.

With Battlefield 2042 getting its last seasonal content drop with Season 7, expect more of the upcoming patches to be centered around fixes and events.

Year 5 Season 3 ended with a shocking revelation, Rogue agent number one and sworn nemesis of The Division, Aaron Keener is alive. In her hunt for truth, Agent Kelso located him and decided to join forces with him.

The line between light and dark, agent and rogue, keeps blurring as we learned that Keener was working with Faye Lau to undermine the Black Tusk and neutralize the Hunter threat during the events of Warlords of New York.

Keener is coming to Washington, D.C. and he has sent us an invitation to parley, but first we will need to pass his twisted trials and prove our worth. An alliance with Keener and his Rogues could be the key to stopping Natalya Sokolova and the Black Tusk. But what will the cost be?

Can Keener be trusted? Is the enemy of our enemy truly our friend?

CALENDAR

ONE ENDGAME

With Y6S1 First Rogue we are unifying the Division 2 and Warlords of New York DLC owners in One Endgame.

All owners of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 will now be able to level up their characters to level 40, without the need to own Warlords of New York. Players will be able to keep levelling their characters beyond 30 in the streets of Washington DC and reach the level 40 cap, without any additional purchase.

Upon reaching level 40, the endgame will be available to all agents. This includes all level 40 items implemented in the past years, Seasons and all their activities (Leagues, Global Events, Apparel Events, Manhunts – including the new Y6S1 First Rogue Manhunt), level 40 Game Modes (The Summit, Countdown) and the recently released Incursion, Paradise Lost.

Warlords of New York remains available as an additional purchase, offering exclusive story content, New York South Manhattan map and special gear.

WORLD TIER REMOVAL

  • World Tiers have been removed from the game.
  • World Tiers and Gear Score  mentions have been removed from the game, including tutorials and various menus UI.

  • Raids are now accessible at level 40.
  • Control Points Alert Levels are now available after completing the Tidal Basin mission.
  • Seasonal features, such as Global Events, Leagues and Manhunts are now available to players at level 40.
  • Legacy Manhunts will also be playable, but we recommend playing them in the correct order after completing WONY for maximum enjoyment.
  • Global Difficulty is now available at level 40.
  • Specializations are now unlocked at level 30.
  • Gear Score has been removed from the game, and Exotic Reconfiguration no longer takes into account Gear Scores.
  • Item Quality has been rescaled and redistributed along one uniform scale from level 1 to level 40, instead of having a reset at level 30 as it was previously.
  • Item Power and Enemy Power have been redistributed to include the World Tier power, which have been incorporated into levels 26-30.
  • Players can now fast travel back to DC from New York as soon as the New York Intro Mission has been completed.
  • Crafting bench upgrades related to World Tiers have been removed. Superior and High-end bench quality upgrades have been redistributed to match the new item quality/level distribution.
  • Adjusted the story Invasions flow:
    • Gear Score Requirements have been removed from the story-related invaded Strongholds.
    • Completing Invaded Missions is no longer a prerequisite for the story invaded Strongholds (weekly invasions will still require invaded missions).

COMMENDATIONS

With the removal of the World Tiers system, the Hardcore Gear Distinction commendation will no longer be relevant and thus will be removed from the game. Players who have already obtained the arm patch associated with this commendation will retain it, but new players will no longer be able to complete it. To compensate for the removal, we are adding five new commendations to Descent.

NEW DESCENT COMMENDATIONS:

  • Descent Loop 6 Award – Reach loop 6 in Descent 3 times.
  • Descent Basic Award – Beat the Nemesis in Descent without equipping any exotic talents.
  • Descent 50 Award – Complete 50 loops in Descent.

Black Ops 6 File Size Not 300GB, Players Will Be Able to Download Game Without Other COD Games

Just the other day, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 info has surfaced and one of the things people noticed is how big the disk requirement is, and it was at a whopping 300GB! Well, it seems that info is accurate, as Activision has now issued a statement on the Black Ops 6 file size.

Over on the official CODUpdates Twitter account, Activision confirmed that this 300GB listing includes Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Warzone and all the language packs, which made it balloon to this size.

Correction: The estimated file size currently displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.

The sizes as shown include the full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone and all relevant content packs, including all localized languages combined which is not representative of a typical player install experience.

Players will be able to download Black Ops 6 at launch without downloading any other Call of Duty titles or all of the language packs .

The actual estimation of the Black Ops 6 file size will be available closer to launch.

Well, that clears it up. While Activision hasn’t revealed the file size of Black Ops 6, COD Warfare on Twitter mentions it’s 149GB in total with Warzone.

Of course, this is still not official and game disk requirements will be different for each platform.

For a deep look at the known info on multiplayer so far, head on over here. Expect a much bigger blowout on multiplayer this August on Call of Duty Next.

Nintendo Switch Update 18.1.0 Pulls Twitter Integration

Nintendo Switch update 18.1.0 has been released this June 10 (June 11 outside the US). and this pulls Twitter functionality from the system (which is surprising that it happened just now given it was pulled on PlayStation platforms a long time ago). There are also other system changes made, though nothing major.

Nintendo Switch Update 18.1.0 Patch Notes:

Ver. 18.1.0 (Released June 10, 2024)

  • The following updates were made for the discontinuation of X (formerly Twitter) integration:
    • The option to “Post to Twitter” when sharing from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu was removed.
    • The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menuu to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app was removed.
    • The option to link X (formerly Twitter) from “Settings” > “User Settings” > “Posting to Social Media” was removed.
  • The option to link social media accounts from “My Page” > “Friend Suggestions” was removed.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

That’s about it. With the next Nintendo console already looming, don’t expect any major Switch system updates from Nintendo. If we do get another system update, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Report: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Releases November 17 According to GameStop

In case you didn’t know, retailers outing game titles, info and even release dates are nothing new, it seems that’s what happened today, as the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date seems to have been outed by GameStop ahead of any official announcement.

In a tweet on the official GameStop Twitter/X account, it mentions that MGS Delta: Snake Eater will be released this November 17! Check out the screengrabbed image below since we assume that tweet will be pulled soon.

The latest remake for the Metal Gear Solid franchise drummed up excitement this weekend, as the first gameplay trailer got revealed and it looked fantastic!

Earlier today, we posted the game’s Collector’s Edition contents, which you can read about here.

In case you’re not familiar with the game, it’s a remake of one of the best action games of all-time. The official description reads: “Discover the origin story of iconic military operative Snake and begin to unravel the plot of the legendary METAL GEAR series. METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER brings unprecedented new graphics, immersive stealth action gameplay and sounds to its riveting story as players once again return to the world of METAL GEAR.”

Note that the November 17 date falls on a Sunday, but it does make sense given the date is the 20th anniversary of the original.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Deep Dive Highlights Brutal Combat and Improved Stealth

A new extended Assassin’s Creed Shadows gameplay deep dive shown off at Ubisoft Forward today gave us an in-depth look at each of the game’s protagonists. We got to see some of Yusuke’s hefty melee combat as well as Naoe’s versatile stealth gameplay.

You can watch the entire deep dive below:

We also got some extra details from a Ubisoft blog post:

n the walkthrough, Yasuke arrives in Fukuchiyama to track a corrupt daimyo. His trail leads him to confront a samurai who is abusing his power, and it’s here that Assassin’s Creed Shadows showcases its new combat, featuring destructible armor, devastating but risky posture attacks, and multiweapon combat. Yasuke crushes his foes with massive swings from his powerful kanabo before dispatching the samurai in a duel of katanas.

When the time comes to assassinate the daimyo inside his castle, players will be able to choose between Naoe and Yasuke; in the walkthrough, we see Naoe take the lead on infiltrating the towering complex. The stealthiest Assassin yet, Naoe has a host of tools at her disposal that allow her to strike silently and move about unseen. She can go prone and crawl through tall grass, peek around corners, or extinguish lights to hide in the shadows. She can swing and climb using her grappling hook, knock out NPCs, assassinate targets from a distance using her kusarigama, and more.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ world features dynamic seasons and weather that will affect gameplay. If she infiltrates at night (as she does in the walkthrough), Naoe is harder to detect, doubly so when the rain picks up and muffles her sounds. Because the mission takes place in the spring, she is able to hide in bushes and sneak underwater through a pond – but in the winter, the pond would be frozen, the bushes wouldn’t have the leaves to hide her, and the snow would reveal her footsteps.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on November 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
