Black Ops 2 Update 1.006

Heads-up, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 PS4, PS5 gamers, Iron Galaxy has released a new title update for the game today, July 30, and this should be of interest to everyone playing this re-release on PlayStation platforms.

PS4, PS5 gamers will see this download as Black Ops 2 update 1.06/1.006, and while we wish this patch fixed the current hack plaguing the game where it bricked player accounts, that’s sadly not part of today’s changelog.

For the complete details on what got fixed today, read on.

Update (July 31): For those looking for the Black Ops 1 update, read the changelog and known issues here.

Black Ops 2 Update on PlayStation Platforms for July 30 Doesn’t Resolve Modded Lobbies

Unfortunately, today’s changelog doesn’t include a fix for the modded lobbies being pushed by hackers to max Prestige some players and lock them out of their own accounts.

The changelog for today includes:

  • Improved mid-match lobby backfilling
  • Reduced input delay for 120Hz+ displays
  • Zombies matches will now prioritize PS5 hosts and no longer fall back to PS4 hosts
  • Smoke grenade VFX fix
  • Added a toggle to view or hide other players’ custom emblems in the Multiplayer options menu. By default, custom emblems remain visible.

While there’s no fix for the max Prestige hack, Iron Galaxy has acknowledged the issue and said, “We are also investigating solutions for instances where accounts have been set to incorrect Prestige levels.”

Hopefully, the devs can fix it via a server-side fix, or another update is released to resolve this major issue. Oddly enough, Iron Galaxy prepped update 1.05/1.005, but then decided to push this patch instead, thus why there’s a jump in version number (thanks PS Game Size!). While Black Ops 2 jumped a version. the original Black Ops didn’t, as it received the version 1.05 update last week and had the following fixes:

  • Reduced input latency for screens that support 120hz or higher.
  • Zombies matches will now prioritize PS5 hosts and no longer fall back to PS4 hosts.
  • Added a toggle to view or hide other players’ custom emblems in the Multiplayer options menu. By default, custom emblems remain visible. (NOTE: Some issues with this feature are being investigated.)

There are also issues with the first Black Ops, which we’re hoping Iron Galaxy sorts out at some point as well. With over seven million buyers for both titles, we suspect Activision will be supporting the games moreso than other old titles.

In related news, we explain why Black Ops and Black Ops 2 both need a remaster but not a full-on remake.
