EA Shutting Down Servers for Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, Dante’s Inferno, FIFA 21 Later This Year

crysis 3 servers

If you’re somehow still playing Crysis 3 multiplayer on your PS3 or Xbox 360, that’s about to change soon, as EA has added that game and more which will  have its servers shutdown later this year.

The games below are part of the EA-published titles which will have its online component non-functional before 2023 is done. Just this March, EA announced that Battlefield: Bad Company 1, BC2, Battlefield 1943 are all having its servers shutdown.

Here are the newly added games in EA’s list (sorted alphabetically) which will have their servers shutdown within the year.

  • Crysis 3 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One (backwards compatibility), Steam and EA App (September 7, 2023)
  • Dead Space 2 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (December 8, 2023)
  • Dante’s Inferno on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and Xbox 360 (December 8, 2023)
  • FIFA 18 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (November 6, 2023)
  • FIFA 19 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (November 6, 2023)
  • FIFA 20 for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (November 6, 2023)
  • FIFA 21 for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

Possibly the most worrying here is FIFA 21, as it’s relatively new, though one can argue that sports games lose almost all their online players once a new iteration is out. Plus, EA is pushing out its FIFA replacement in EA Sports FC 24, so there’s that as well.

Mind, given that online games require servers (which, in turn, cost money) for companies to run, it’s just a matter of time when servers are shutdown.

While there’s no Crysis 3 multiplayer available in the remaster, there is a new Crysis game in development, which you can read about here. As for Dead Space 2, there’s been no announcement of a remake for it yet, but given how successful the first Dead Space remake has been, we’d be very surprised if a DS2 remake isn’t already in development (especially since EA seems to be surveying gamers about their interest in remakes).

Thanks, Pure Xbox!
