Ubisoft Not Worried About GTA 6, as Other Games Available During GTA’s Past Release Do Really Well Claims CEO

In case you haven’t been keeping up with gaming news, Take-Two Interactive is set to release Grand Theft Auto 6 next year! What that usually means is, publishers will schedule their games around Rockstar’s upcoming beast, so they can avoid going head-to-head with it. While some companies might be worried about GTA 6 gobbling up the sales, it seems that’s not an issue for Ubisoft.

In the publisher’s latest quarterly earnings call Q&A, Ubisoft was asked what they think of their games pipeline for 2025 and its competitiveness with Grand Theft Auto 6’s impending release in the same year, and whether the publisher thinks there are risks of “crowding out.”

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot doesn’t seem to worried about it, as the Ubisoft boss even claims that “other games” released during that time actually do really well, even.

What we see generally when GTA is coming is more people come to play, so generally it’s positive on the overall market. And other games that are available during that time actually do really well as well. It’s something we saw a few times already, because we had very good sales when GTA 5 came, and also when they did a remaster on the new consoles. It’s something that’s counter-intuitive but it’s working for us in general.

Guillemot might have a point. Of course, we’ll know for sure whether his theory still rings true come next year when Grand Theft Auto 6 is released and takes up all the entertainment space in the world.

In the same Q&A, Guillemot revealed that Star Wars Outlaws has the biggest marketing budget for any Ubisoft game in history.
