Stellar Blade x Nier: Automata DLC Announced With Photo Mode Incoming for Free; Eve Confirmed for Astro Bot

Those looking for the next thing to do in Stellar Blade, you’ll be able to do that soo, as Sony has announced the Stellar Blade x Nier: Automata DLC! Alongside this, an update will be released to all players featuring Photo Mode.

Check out the trailer to see what’s incoming to the action game:

No word yet on when this will be out, but we expect that won’t be that far out given we’re about to hit October next week.

Alongside the DLC announcement, Stellar Blade’s Eve will also be making her way into Astro Bot as part of that game’s free DLC! This was confirmed not only in the trailer for Astro Bot’s free add-on, but also by the official Stellar Blade Twitter/X account:

This announcement basically confirms the unreleased Astro Bot crossover content incoming outed by the game’s credits. Once we know the date when Stellar Blade’s DLC will be out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. 1. New Characters

S-Rank Agent Caesar (Defense – Physical)

Caesar combines the ability to stun with survivability while also providing shields and buffs for all squad members.

She activates Perfect Block when she performs her EX Special Attack while being attacked by an enemy. This allows her to block the incoming DMG and counterattack with her shield dealing significant Physical DMG.

*The time-limited S-Rank Agent Caesar (Defense – Physical) can be unlocked by Signal Searching on the Ember-Crowned Overlord channel.

S-Rank Agent Burnice (Anomaly – Fire)

Burnice is a powerful Anomaly character who quickly builds up Fire Anomaly by launching EX Special Attacks, which accumulates Heat. Once enough Heat is generated, Burnice enters the Nitro-Fuel Cocktail state, which applies Scorched to enemies. Fire DMG and Fire Anomaly Buildup continues when she is off-field.

*The time-limited S-Rank Agent Burnice (Anomaly – Fire) can be unlocked by Signal Searching on a future channel.

2. New W-Engines

Blitz Mode Added to Hollow Zero – Withering Garden

2. In Blitz mode, you can attack enemies directly without having to explore Hollows via the Monitor Array. Earn Investigation Points upon completion.

3. In Blitz mode, you can choose the intensity of Ether activity. You can earn more Investigation Points completing combat with high-intensity Ether activity.

9. New Systems

Back in Business

Proxies who meet return conditions can select one A-Rank W-Engine and also claim Polychromes, Master Tapes, and other rewards.

In Version 1.2, when your battery charge reaches its maximum limit or higher, the Backup Battery Charge kicks in: 1 point is restored every 18 minutes, up to a maximum of 2,400.

1. If a Proxy has < 240 Battery at the time of maintenance, the charge will recover to the max of 240 over time. After Battery Charge exceeds 240, it will recover charge proportionally;

2. If a Proxy has ≥ 240 Battery Charge at the time of maintenance, the Backup Battery Charge will begin to recover over time.

  • Adds New Fairy-Auto Explore Mode to HDD

1. Use Fairy to explore for you after clearing Exploration and Story commissions for the first time;

2. Fairy can keep exploring after Proxies go offline;

3. Once Fairy has finished exploring, Proxies can claim all rewards from the commission.

  • Adds city “Character Select” function

After switching to the corresponding character in the top-left corner, you can free roam in the city using the selected character.

(In this version, Proxies will be able to switch between Belle and Wise. Obtain the Agents Caesar and Burnice to freely roam around the city as these Agents.)

Chat with Officer Mewmew to get Mewmew’s Blazewood Notes, and complete Mewmew challenges to earn each corresponding medal. Challenges consist of City side missions, Bangboo repairs, finding mini cargo trucks, and earning commemorative coins.

2. New Content

  • Adds new dynamic wallpapers for Caesar, Burnice, Piper, and Lucy. Unlock a corresponding Agent and increase their Trust level to a certain threshold to unlock an Agent’s dynamic wallpaper.
  • Adds new chat emojis for Caesar and Burnice.
  • Adds new function for checking Agent equipment “Stat Bonuses.” Select “Stat Bonuses” from the Agent equipment screen to view.
  • Adds new “Skill Enhancement Suggestions.” Go to the Agent Skill Enhancement screen and tap on Suggestions to view.
  • Adds new enemies: Corrupted Overlord – Pompey, Hati Pack Leader – Energized, Autonomous Tactical Unit – Shielded Defender, Mors, Pulchra, Bellum, Doppelganger – Mors, Doppelganger – Pulchra, Doppelganger – Bellum.
  • Adds new visuals for the enemy Doppelganger – Jane.

  • Adds new Pursuit to the Depths function in Notorious Hunt. After completing 3 challenges without Battery Charge in one week, spend 60 Battery Charge to repeat the challenge for partial rewards.
  • Adds new challenge Corrupted Overlord – Pompey to Notorious Hunt.
  • Adds new challenge Doppelganger – Jane to Expert Challenge.
  • Adds new challenge Hunter and Beast to Routine Cleanup; challenge to earn the all-new series of Drive Discs, Chaos Jazz and Proto Punk.

    • (Default setting is Medium; set to High to apply high-fidelity light rendering effects in areas new to Version 1.2 and areas from previous versions.)
  •  Adds a new trophy set to the PlayStation®5™ platform: Zenless Zone Zero – Tour de Inferno.

3. Shiyu Defense

Ambush Node

Adds new node during Version 1.2: Ambush Node. Ambush Node has five Frontiers and is no longer time-limited. Gain two Ether Dewdrops before challenging each frontier (which automatically restores Agent health after a defeat); ratings for each challenge are based on total defeats for an Agent.

Requirements: Complete Chapter 2 Interlude: Mission Unthinkable and clear the Stable Node: Tenth Frontier to unlock.

Node ends at 04:00 (server time) on 11/6/2024.

Critical Node

After Version 1.2 updates, buff effects of Critical Node are:

Phase I:

  • Increases Agent ATK and DMG taken by 20%.
  • When receiving a shield, all squad members recover 10 Energy while increasing ATK by an extra 20% for 20 seconds. Can trigger at most once every 20 seconds.

Phase II:

  • When bearing a shield, Agent Anomaly Buildup Rate increases by 25%.
  • When hitting an enemy that is afflicted with Attribute Anomaly, Agent DMG increases by 35%.

Phase III:

  • Increases Agent DMG dealt by 25%.
  • Increases Agent ATK by 20% for 15 seconds when inflicting Burn or Shock on an enemy. Instantly grants 20% Daze if the enemy is not Stunned when triggered.

Agents

  • Optimizes 3D model for Agent Zhu Yuan without her weapon in city areas.
  • Optimizes parts of 3D models for Agents Caesar, Burnice, and Hoshimi Miyabi.
  • Optimizes some animations for some Agents.
  • Optimizes camera visuals for some Agents on the deployment screen.
  • Optimizes mission guidance for Agent Seth’s Trust event. The Lumina Square noodle shop Trust event for Agent Seth can be viewed and tracked via the Schedule.
  • Optimizes the text description for Mindscape Cinema 06 “Break the Limit” for Agent Anton, which is textual only and does not impact actual skill effects.

Optimizes visuals of Twin Marionettes battlefield.

Optimizes 3D mode for Doppelganger – Jane;

Optimizes logic of enemy target lock for Chain Attacks launched by Agents’ Perfect Assists.

Optimizes text description for “Heavy Striker,” which is textual only and does not impact gameplay.

Systems

  • Raises the level cap for New Eridu City Fund. Adds rewards for City Fund Levels 51–60.
  • Optimizes W-Engine Recycle function. Proxies do not need to spend Dennies to recycle W-Engines. After the update, Proxies can claim the Denny cost for recycling W-Engines in previous updates via Mail.
  • Adds a new option to “Drag to Switch to Previous Character” on mobile devices via “Options > Other.”
    • (Option is deactivated by default. Enable it to Drag to Switch to Previous Character by holding “Switch Characters” and dragging the button outwards.)
  • Adds new Claim All function to Hollow Zero – Bounty Commissions screen.
  • While playing out the main plot, Bangboo level for some trial Bangboo can increase as Inter-Knot Reputation increases.
  • Optimizes information display for some screens in Storage.
  • Optimizes prompt details when dismantling Drive Disks.
  • Optimizes the interface of Drive Disc main stats at the music store.
  • Optimizes logic of teleporting to the corresponding store from “Obtain Via.”
  • Optimizes UI effects for Character Details screen
  • Adds access to Character Details when combat is paused.
  • Directly opens store business screen when teleporting to the Sixth Street coffee shop and newsstand after clearing Errands – Daily.
  • Optimizes display for Agent Info Panel during combat. The exclusive icon for off-field characters during battle is now displayed below the corresponding Agent’s avatar.
  • Optimizes time system. Proxies can now adjust in-game time freely.
  • Optimizes red dot display logic for Friend requests.
  • Optimizes Edit Friend Notes function, which can now be left blank.
  • Optimizes UI position of Camera function.
  • Optimizes Agent Invite function. After inviting an Agent you can switch to and invite a different Agent directly from the Contacts interface.
  • Adds new achievements for A Ridu Journey, Phaethon’s Story, Agent Trust, Hollow Zero, Enemy Target, Combat, and Hollow Exploration Guide, including some hidden achievements.
  • Adds new categories of achievements: When Opportunities Converge, Inter-Knot Hot Topic, and Zero Key.
  • Shifts Hollow Zero hidden commission achievements from “A Ridu Journey” to “Zero Key” without changing unlock conditions. Shifts some “Enemy Target” achievements to “Combat Skills” without changing unlock conditions.
  • Corrects some names and descriptions of achievements without changing unlock conditions.

Gameplay

  • Adjusts weekly bounty commission for Hollow Zero from Special Commission ×1 and Common Commission ×3 to Common Commission ×4 which is subdivided into S, A, B, and C tiers. Earn the corresponding number of Investigation Points to complete weekly Common Commissions. This adjustment takes effect at 04:00 on the first Monday after the update (server time).

  • Fixes an issue where Agent Lucy’s Interrupt Level for Chain Attacks is abnormal.
  • Fixes an issue where Agent Qingyi’s animations sometimes display incorrectly after performing a Perfect Assist.
  • Fixes an issue that occurs when Agent Ellen is using Charged Scissor Strike and knocks back an enemy, then immediately triggers “Basic Attack: Flash Freeze Trimming,” there is a chance that the first part of the attack fails to hit the enemy.
  • Fixes an issue where other squad members sometimes do not correctly receive buffs when entering combat via a Chain Attack triggered by Agent Soukaku’s Fly the Flag.

  • Fixes an issue where, under certain circumstances, there is a chance that enemies cannot be locked on to.

  • Fixes an issue that occurs when scrolling on the Drive Disc enhance screen, there is a chance that the currently selected Drive Disc’s info may be displayed incorrectly.

Whew, a big update with lots of lots of content included with it. As a reminder, as with any major update with Zenless Zone Zero, servers are currently down for maintenance with them expected to be up roughly five hours after the maintenance time (06:00(UTC+8)). 300 Polychrome will be given as compensation for the downtime.

Lunar Remastered Collection to Be Released in Spring 2025

GungHo Entertainment has announced the Lunar Remastered Collection, a compilation featuring two legendary JRPGs: Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. This collection will include updated graphics, enhanced sound, and new quality-of-life improvements.

The remastered edition will bring several upgrades, such as widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, HD animated cutscenes, and new English voice acting. Players will be able to choose between the original visuals or the remastered version for a more modern experience. Additionally, a new feature will allow players to speed up battles, offering more control over the gameplay pace, while enhanced strategy settings will make combat more accessible. For the first time, Lunar will be available in German and French, in addition to English and Japanese.

Will Ghost of Tsushima Protagonist, Jin Sakai, Be in Ghost of Yotei? No, Because He’s Dead, Possibly of Old Age

Sucker Punch Production has just announced the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei. To the surprise of many, it’ll feature an entirely new protagonist, which has left many wondering where in the world is Jin Sakai? Well, the quick and short answer, which isn’t a spoiler to the first game, is that he’s dead.

Will Jin Sakai Be in Ghost of Yotei?

For those wondering, the chances of Jin Sakai, the main protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, appearing in Ghost of Yotei are slim to none. Why? Well, because he’s dead, and no, not because of how things ended in the last game or because he somehow was killed off-screen. I mean, he could have been killed, but anyone paying attention to the settings of each game will know that the game took place during the Mongol invasion in 1274. Jin, during this time, was 30 years old, and by the time Ghost of Yotei (1603) is set to happen, he will be well over 300 years old.

Though the game looks similar to the first, this is an entirely different era in which it takes place, meaning the only time we’ll probably see or hear about Jin Sakai is from some legends or maybe a possible lineage.

Not only that, but Sucker Punch has also given a reason why they moved away from Jin for the sequel:

“We also wanted to continue to innovate. To create something fresh but familiar, we looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and the island of Tsushima, and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost instead. At Sucker Punch we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it could mean to have a new hero wearing a Ghost mask, and uncovering a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”

So, to help set some expectations early, don’t go in expecting Jin Sakai to make some random cameo appearance in the sequel. Unless he found the secret to eternal life, he’s long dead, either slain in combat or of old age.

Lego Horizon Adventures Launches November 14, Digital Deluxe Edition Contents Revealed

During the recent State of Play event, Sony officially announced the release date for Lego Horizon Adventures. The game is set to launch on November 14, 2024, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Pre-orders for the game begin on October 3, 2024. If you pre-order any physical edition from participating retailers or any digital edition on your preferred platform, you will receive a LEGO version of the iconic Shield-Weaver outfit to use in the game.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of Lego Horizon Adventures comes packed with exclusive content:

  • Roller Coaster Customization | No need to choose between roof or coaster; you can have both and bring some theme park fun to Mother’s Heart!

Palworld PS5 Version Officially Launches Today

Earlier this month, a leak suggested that Palworld would be coming to PlayStation 5. Now, those rumors have been confirmed. At the recent State of Play event, Sony officially announced that the game is launching on PS5—and it’s available starting today.

This launch comes as the developer faces a legal dispute with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company over the game’s resemblance to Pokémon. Despite the ongoing lawsuit, Palworld has made its way to PlayStation 5, giving Sony users the chance to explore its unique world.

Ghost of Tsushima Sequel Announced as “Ghost of Yotei” and Is Out in 2025; Check Out Our First Look at Gameplay

Capping today’s State of Play is a huge one, as Sony officially announced Ghost of Tsushima 2 and it’s titled “Ghost of Yotei.” Not only that, but we even get a trailer for it that shows a few shots of gameplay!

If there’s one trailer you need to watch in the entire show, this is it!

In 1603, a new Ghost named Atsu sets out on a journey in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, an area filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. Ghost of Yōtei comes to PS5 in 2025.

As you can see from the trailer, we have a new hero this time around named Atsu. We’re going to be digging more about this game as soon as we can given how much we loved the first one. In case you haven’t played it, go read our review of it here where we gave it a 9.5/10!

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Releases Oct. 31 on PS5, PC; PS4 Version Owners Can Upgrade for Just $9.99

After we initially leaked its existence way back in 2022, and following the ESRB rating that surfaced this week, Sony has now officially announced Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PS5 and PC, and will be released this October 31, 2024!

About the PSVR2 Version:

HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 has been enhanced to completely immerse players during their missions. Now supporting dual-wielding, a wide array of actions and interactions have been added, including the possibility of performing actions with both controllers at the same time, active reloading, on-body weapon holstering, aiming through the sniper’s scope. Enhancements have been added to improve the core VR experience, such as Room scale implementation, spatial interactions to touch, grab, and position, integration of the PlayStation VR2 controllers’ adaptative triggers, and many more.

Players who already own HITMAN World of Assassination on PlayStation 5 will be able to buy an upgrade pack to the PlayStation VR2 content for $9.99, €9.99, £8.99.”

AGENT UPDATES

  • Agent abilities involving walls have had their interaction with the glass window on Ascent changed.
    • Phoenix’s Blaze and Neon’s Fast Lane will break the window if their initial cast center point would hit the window, but the walls themselves will not interact with the window.
    • Harbor’s High Tide will no longer break the glass window since it does not hit walls.
    • Chamber’s Trademark, Cypher’s Trapwire, and Killjoy’s Lockdown will no longer break windows when placed too close.
  • Brimstone’s Orbital Strike AOE windup/activation and Vyse’s Steel Garden AOE windup audio integration have been updated from being positioned directly on the Agent when in the AOE to being slightly directional toward the origin of the AOE to allow you to know which direction to travel in, in order to escape.

GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS UPDATES

  • Updated voting systems so that draw votes no longer take into account AFK players.

  • Haven

  • We made an update to our voice chat system. You should now more reliably reconnect to voice chat after unexpected disconnects.

  • We are adding Weapon Skin names to the in-game Weapon Switcher. We hope this will make it easier to determine what skin you are using when you pick up or switch to a weapon. You can see this change on your in-game HUD.

BUG FIXES

Agents

  • Fixed an issue where Deadlock’s Sonic Sensors could stay active if placed as Deadlock was killed.
  • Fixed an issue where Cypher’s Trapwire did not take damage from certain abilities.
  • Fixed an issue where Gekko’s Wingman could get stuck in a loop while attempting to chase an unreachable target.
  • Fixed an issue where Yoru’s Fakeout did not trigger Vyse’s Shear.
  • Fixed an issue where Breach was unable to cast abilities through Vyse’s Shear.
  • Fixed an issue where Sova’s Recon Bolt was destroyed by Vyse’s Shear.
  • Fixed an issue where Gekko’s Thrash and Raze’s Showstopper could hit people on the other side of Vyse’s Shear.
  • Fixed an issue where Vyse’s Arc Rose could be placed on invalid objects.
  • Fixed various collision issues with Vyse’s Shear, that blocked bullets and people while despawning.

    • As you join our community, complete the tutorial, and start sharpening your skills on the battlefield, we want to make sure you are armed with the right information in order to succeed and secure that clutch! So, we’ve implemented a “New Player Tip” system that will display useful in-game information based on the actions you take during the match. These tips will provide critical information for gameplay fundamentals, potential focuses for skill improvements, and suggestions for advanced strategies.
    • NOTE: If you’re an existing player, New Player Tips won’t show up unless turned on in Settings.
    • Our New Player Tips have been built from the ground up to give you more opportunities to skill-up and learn VALORANT faster via:
      • Tips that “listen” to your in-match actions and behaviors.
      • Tips that level up with you as you learn the fundamentals of VALORANT gameplay, from beginner to advanced strategies.
    • Tips can be switched On or Off in your Settings.

New Action Game “Hell Is Us” Announced With Teaser Trailer

At Sony’s State of Play, Nacon revealed a new game incoming for PS5 and it’s titled “Hell Is Us.” In the teaser, we get to see scant seconds of gameplay where we see the game’s protagonist, an old man and a sword…you can’t get more vague than that!

The game is being developed by Rogue Factor, which developed Mordheim City of the Damned. No word yet on a release date, and while it was revealed at State of Play, chances are it’ll be playable on other platforms as well.

If war is the closest we get to hell on earth, it’s because Earth harbors the worst of demons: humankind.

Discover the first Gameplay footage of Hell is Us , an action-adventure game set in a war-torn country, where players must unravel the mysteries of their past and confront the human darkness that fuels the chaos.

Hell is Us will be available on PlayStation 5 in 2025.

In a blog post published a few days ago, Moon Hood Studio says that it has partnered with Fast Travel Games to publish The Midnight Walk, their first title. They note that the game is entirely handcrafted with real clay that is 3D-scanned and that players can expect a dark yet heartwarming tale with innovative gameplay mechanics and breathtaking landscapes filled with equally nightmarish creatures.

“In the Midnight Walk, you awake as The Burnt One, a mysterious being who’s dug themselves out of a muddy grave to find their purpose. They find it in Potboy – a little dormant lantern creature that you reignite and bring back to life.

Together you must venture down the Midnight Walk – a perilous, nightmarish highway and, along the way, survive five strange tales about fire; its lifegiving warmth as well as its inherent danger. You’ll outsmart ghoulish enemies, meet a fantastical cast of companions, and gaze in wonder at our hand-crafted world. That’s right; every asset in the game was first sculpted in clay before being 3D-scanned into the game and animated in a stop motion style!”

No release date was given for the title, though we know it’s coming to both the PS5 and PSVR2.

Astro Bot Free DLC Incoming in Fall 2024, Trailer Shows What’s on the Way

Team Asobi is set to give Astro Bot players a dose of new content this Fall 2024! At today’s State of Play, the Astro Bot free DLC has been announced!

What’s confirmed to be in it include five (5) new online speedrun levels and 10 new bots to rescue. Also included in the trailer is confirmation that Arrowhead Game Studio’s Helldivers 2 will be part of the update as well.

While no date has been announced, we’re expecting more free content drops for Astro Bot given the game’s credits kind of leaked their existence.

The Plucky Squire Review – Happy Endings

That spark in your eyes when you were younger, reading children’s books filled with adventure and magic, worlds of possibilities, do you remember that? What if this joy could be brought to life in a game of remarkable creativity and out-of-the-box (and out-of-the-book) thinking? That’s what Devolver Digital’s The Plucky Squire sets out to do, delivering an original, charming, and quite frankly mesmerizing tale that is almost unlike any other – this is a game, a story, both, that will play straight to your childish heart.

Plot Twist

This is the story of this brave squire named Jot, whom you’ll control inside of the book and outside as well, thrown into the real world by the malevolent wizard Humgrump. It’s not quite a spoiler since this concept is mentioned as a highlight of the game, and marks a drastic change of pace from the colorful drawings inside the children’s book to the glossy and larger 3D areas on the messy desk from the kid who loves the adventures of Jot.

There’s no way of saying that this game is nothing other than a great, charming time. Everything I have tried is a noteworthy display of creativity and almost flawless realization, not merely as pure eye-candy but also at the service of effective and fun gameplay, not really challenging in terms of skill requirements – perhaps a downside for some players, but that’s not really the goal of the game –  but with perfectly tuned puzzles that make you think without overcoming their stay. It helps with the pleasant flow of the story, the mechanics that you unlock, and surprises keep coming at a steady pace, pushing you to progress and discover what else is there in store for you.

The Plucky Squire starts inside a storybook, with some really great 2D art and a gameplay that is simple and easy to grasp since the first pages. Yes, pages, as your character only moves within the book’s boundaries, and whenever you reach the exit margin, the page flips and you are introduced to the next two pages, the playing area with a new layout and surprises. Once in a while, there are cutscenes brilliantly created in the same art style, with a narrator who sounds like the one from LittleBigPlanet voicing the progress of Jot and his companions, oozing charm and childish wonder all of the time.

The Plucky Squire Preview

Controlling your little squire in 2D feels great, the sword slashes and throws – as you can purchase new skills along the way – adding some depth to the wonderful simplicity of it. Combat is straightforward but requires some timing, dodge rolls ready to be used as if you were in a Dark Souls demake – I exaggerate, but bear with me – and animations so smooth that you’ll think you are watching a cartoon brought to life, the little characters and enemies so cute, so lovely to see moving around.

Sometimes you face a perspective switch to a pitch-black side-scroller, now a platformer game with some puzzle elements. It’s endearing and one of many surprises coming your way, which include constant perspective changes to get into a boxing match, or even a collectible card game duel as you battle an elf for her crossbow – but definitely not the kind of battle you may be expecting by the sound of it.

It’s not just about combat either; you’ll find clever puzzles including some that push you to manipulate the environment by taking words out of short sentences such as “the gate was closed” and switching them around to get the outcome you need. In this case, finding the word “open” in some other sentence and carrying it there would open the gate, allowing you to move forward. It’s another aspect of a storybook come to life, changing its naturally strict nature into something that suits you, and one more way of showcasing the brilliant design of the game.

When Humgrump kicks you out of the book in a bid to change the course of the story, it all changes. You are now in full 3D, exploring the chaotic desk and discovering a brave new world filled with toys, bugs, and various creatures. Through magic and some cleverly placed entry points, Jot will be able to seamlessly move from 3D to 2D across a few surfaces, smartly mixing both worlds and providing different types of challenges and perspective tricks. The detail as you explore the desk is incredible, very colorful, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that the magnificence of the 2D artwork and animations manages to surpass everything else that the game has to offer.

The Plucky Squire is that clever. It’s a game that is impossible to dislike, young or old gamers, a breath of fresh air and a colossal display of creativity and talent. Finding a game that looks like it is a daunting task, and while it may not win a GOTY award because it’s not something designed for the masses and with AAA marketing, it will be game of the year for many, many players who love new and original experiences. The Plucky Squire is a story that is certain to have a happy ending, right as it should be, and no evil wizard will be able to do anything about it.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • A truly charming and magical game for all ages
  • The mix of in and out of the book gameplay is wonderful
  • Surprises and twists that keep on coming
  • The artwork is excellent

Cons:

  • Not much of a challenge – if you’re looking for one, that is
  • It’s over in under 10 hours

Black Ops 6 Movement, Perks, Performance and Other Changes Based on the Beta Revealed

With Treyarch hosting what Activision calls the biggest Call of Duty beta in the game’s history just a few weeks ago with Black Ops 6, the studio has now laid out what changes are being made based on feedback. There are changes to the movement, perks, equipment and a lot more.

Performance

According to Treyarch they have made progress on the performance including resolving the general script errors, issues related to the in-game user interface and improvements to the game’s asset streaming. More importantly, the studio also said they are able to chase down the source of the in-game “hitching” and deploy major fixes since the close of the beta. More work in the game’s performance with “experts across all disciplines” to improve the overall performance is being made.

Weapons

Headshot Damage

Adjustments to reward players who land multiple headshots during an engagement is in the works, however, Treyarch does “not want hit location multipliers to significantly affect the consistency of time to kill in Black Ops 6.” The studio will continue to monitor the effectiveness of headshots during launch and beyond.

Treyarch did acknowledge the low headshot damage did reduce the impact of “skillful play” and made it difficult to challenge certain power positions.

Bullet Penetration

Bullet Penetration is another system that will be improving for launch.  According to Treyarch, “players should notice fewer extreme cases of bullets doing far too much damage through certain surfaces (AKA Wall Bang), while also not penetrating as expected through others (e.g., those pesky snipers behind the radar dish on Scud).”

Other Weapon Feedback Being Looked Into

  • Improvements to fluidity of sniper ADS
  • Improved fluidity when swapping weapons during sprint and tactical sprint. We’re excited about this one!
  • Reduction of weapon motion during crouch transitions
  • Small lift to shotguns and targeted adjustments across all weapons to keep SMGs from over-performing relative to other classes

When it comes to weapon balance, expect more specific details about this near the launch patch notes.

Movement

Movement Updates 

  • Continued improvements to animation fluidity and fidelity throughout
    • We identified several areas for improvement to our 3rd Person animation fidelity across slide, dive, jump and supine prone. Our goal is that what you see in 1st Person is representative of what others see in 3rd Person in order to maintain immersion and predictability.
  • Adjustments to slide for improved predictability and fluidity
    • During Weekend 2 of the Beta, we increased the time before you could enter supine during a slide. After further assessment based on your feedback, we’ve reduced that time to find a nice middle ground between where we were in Beta Weekend 1 and Weekend 2.
    • Reduced the minimum time to slide after sprinting to prevent accidentally crouching when intending to slide, also known as a “dead slide.”
    • Slight reduction to maximum slide duration.
  • Intelligent Movement updates
    • As a reminder, you can find our suite of Intelligent Movement settings in the Movement tab under the Controller or Keyboard & Mouse settings. These settings are broken down by Sprint Assist, Mantle Assist and Crouch Assist with the intention of letting you fine-tune your experience with the result of requiring drastically fewer inputs with basic movement and Omnimovement in Black Ops 6.
    • We identified an issue in Beta with the additional settings for Mantle Assist that allows for further tuning of directional mantles. These have been resolved and should now behave as expected.

Other Confirmed Changes:

Winner’s Circle 

  • Shortened overall duration of Winner’s Circle.
  • To reduce Emote spam, players in the Winner’s Circle will now only be able to activate 1 Emote.
  • Simplified the Emote menu to make it easier to activate Emotes in the Winner’s Circle and in-game.
  • Improvements to fidelity and lighting.

Kill Counter 

  • By popular demand, we’ve added a Kill Counter on your HUD that will track your progress toward Kills-in-one-life Medals, including those who are chasing the coveted Nuclear Medal and Nuke Scorestreak.

Camera Motion 

  • We’re reducing overall camera motion on sprint, tac sprint, and slide.

Kill Order 

  • Increased ‘Kills as HVT’ team score to 3.
  • Reduced ‘HVT Survival’ score to 20.
  • Increased Score Limit to 150.
  • HVT will no longer drop their pistol when they are eliminated.
  • Improved notifications when player is selected as HVT.

Sleeper Agent 

  • Removed the time added when earning Eliminations while Sleeper Agent is active.

Equipment 

  • Stim Shot has been changed from Inventory Based to Cooldown Based by default.
  • Quartermaster (Strategist) will decrease the cooldown time.
  • Resolved an issue where the Combat Axe would not deal lethal damage at round start. It wouldn’t be a Black Ops game if you can’t hit those cross-maps at match start!

Perks 

  • After assessing Perk data from our time with the Beta, we’ve made a few updates to ensure compelling decisions are being made:
    • Assassin (Enforcer) and Bruiser (Enforcer) moved from Perk 1 to Perk 2
    • Dexterity (Enforcer) and Gung Ho (Enforcer) moved from Perk 2 to Perk 1

RC-XD Controls 

  • Updated to classic BO view-based control by default, with an option to switch to gas/brake; on controller, detonate swapped from R2 to R1 so accidental mistakes aren’t made.

Amazon Developing AAA Racing Game With Former Forza Horizon Devs at the Helm

About four months ago, Amazon Games announced a new partnership with Maverick Games to create a narrative-driven racing game set in an open world. The game’s title is still unknown, but there are signs that updates might be coming soon.

According to a job listing, Amazon is looking for a community manager to lead the strategy for their upcoming AAA racing game developed by Maverick Games. The listing states, “Amazon games is looking for a Community Manager to lead the community strategy and tactics for our forthcoming AAA racing game, developed by Maverick Games.” This role is usually filled when a game is ready to be introduced to the public, hinting that Amazon may soon reveal more about the game.

Both Amazon Games and Maverick Games are counting on this game. Amazon has seen some success with games like Lost Ark and New World, but it has also faced setbacks, such as the cancellation of the western release of Blue Protocol. For Maverick Games, this is an opportunity to prove itself, as the studio was founded by developers from Forza Horizon, including Mike Brown, which was the Creative Director of Forza Horizon 5.

While details on the game are scarce, Maverick Games has confirmed it will be a narrative-led, open-world driving game

The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, but the release date is yet to be confirmed. As we get more information, we’ll make sure to keep you informed here at MP1st.
