Report: XDefiant Year 1 Weapons, Season 2 Faction “Highwaymen” and a Lot More Leaked via Datamine

Just a few days ago, Ubisoft released the Season 1 patch for XDefiant, and you know what that means — the download files hare going to get datamined to hell and back! This time around, the XDefiant Year 1 weapons planned for Season 2 and beyond have leaked via datamining.

Before diving in, note that the info below is from datamined info, and as such, nothing has been confirmed by the developers. The items listed below could be placeholder files, change or be removed completely. Got that? Good. Now that’s out of the way, read on for what the devs tucked in the Season 1 patch files.

XDefiant Year 1 Weapons via Datamine:

Season 1

  • LVOA
  • L115
  • Sawed off shotgun

Season 2

  • PP19
  • SPAS
  • LMG

Season 3

  • DMR
  • M1A
  • FAMAS

Season 4

  • SRSA is the only weapon

XDefiant Upcoming Factions:

Alongside the weapons, the XDefiant Season 2 faction seems to have been leaked as well! Players can expect another faction from the Far Cry series to make an appearance, and they will be the Highwaymen from Far Cry New Dawn!  The faction will have a turret ability, though it’s not specified whether this is an ultra or one of the skills the faction will have.

Alongside the turret, a character model for the Far Cry New Dawn faction has surfaced as well, though it’s clearly an early work of it:

Continuing with factions, dataminer TxLimited outed that aside from the Season 2 faction being based on Far Cry New Dawn, Season 3 will be based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Season 4 will focus on Ghost Recon, and Season 5 will feature Rabbids?! Yep, apparently that’s the plan.

While a slew of mastery weapon camos were added in Season 1, it seems the next camo players will be able to earn will be platinum!

Finally, it seems some of the Year 2 weapons have been spotted as well, and again, these could be placeholder stuff since we are a long way away from Year 2 even being a reality.

I just want to reiterate that none of the info above has been verified by Ubisoft, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt. Having said that, a lot of datamines do come to fruition given they are in the game files for a reason.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Review – Embrace Light and Darkness

As hard as it may be to believe, the original Destiny launched nearly a decade ago and quickly garnered a large player base. Rather than build upon that game further, Bungie moved onto Destiny 2 in 2017 as the base model for the series and has been releasing new content for it ever since. While the first two expansions and the original game itself are no longer playable in any form, it has received eight total expansions including the latest known as Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

The End of an Era

Destiny 2: The Final Shape takes in a brand new area known as the Pale Heart, where you are chasing the always slippery Witness that has been around since Shadowkeep and has been a central antagonist of the Light and Darkness saga. The Pale Heart is located within the Traveler itself and is a manifestation of the memories of those lost within it, which leads to some familiar locales showing up in unique ways. This leads to some interesting events such as the revival of fan-favorite Cayde-6, who originally died during the Forsaken expansion, along with plenty of other interesting story beats that players who have been playing Destiny 2 all of these years will appreciate. This story is the culmination of what all the past expansions have been setting up, and offers a very satisfying conclusion by the time you reach the ending.

As with other Destiny 2 expansions, The Final Shape comes with its own story campaign for players to complete, this time with seven full missions. The game is set up to where players who are brand new to Destiny 2 can jump in right after the initial tutorial-like missions when you first start the game. Obviously, those who have played the prior expansions can just hop right into the new Final Shape campaign as well instantly.

Each of The Final Shape missions ended up taking around 45 minutes to an hour, which is pretty common. This really depends on how much exploration you do around these gorgeous locations, and if you get stuck at all. One way you can end up taking longer are in the sections where you have to defeat enemies to find out which emblem you need to touch elsewhere to advance, as selecting the wrong ones can set you back and require you to start that section over again. There were definitely some parts that were much more difficult than others, even with normal difficulty. For those looking for a real challenge, you can take on the Legendary variant of the stages, but you may be in for a tough time if you are not a Destiny 2 master. I will admit that there were some parts where respawning was restricted that took me a few times to get through, though the game never felt unfair at any point. In fact, I thought the level of difficulty was just about perfect here, even though you will still come across bullet sponge enemies that can get a bit frustrating.

Speaking of enemies in the game, Destiny 2: The Final Shape introduces a new enemy faction known as the Dread, which includes six new enemy types. Omen and Attendants create Statis Crystals and try to shatter them to deal major damage to your Guardian, while Harbinger and Weavers use Strand to either suspend your Guardian in midair or pull them towards the enemy. Both of these can be a major problem in battle, as you can easily get trapped and the Omen and Harbinger have a lot of health for you to whittle down and also avoid their dangerous attacks. There were numerous points where the Strand enemies especially caused me some trouble, which led to me having to come up with new strategies that put obstacles between myself and the enemy so that they could not use their Strand abilities on my Guardian.

The dual-blade-wielding Husks do not take anywhere near as long to defeat as the Omen or Harbinger, but they are still incredibly dangerous. That is because just taking them down is not enough, as they will often spawn an energy projectile upon their death that targets you instantly. If you do not shoot it in time, it will hit you and can cause massive damage. This means you typically need to back away from Husks to defeat them, which can prove difficult since they are still trying to always get close up to you to attack. Not only do you have to worry about the ground enemies, but the new Grim enemies take to the sky and look like giant bats. Grim will continually shoot projectiles at you that do solid damage, so it is a good idea to take them down as soon as you can. There are a number of other enemies like the Taken that you will come across during The Final Shape, but these six new enemies definitely added some nice variety to a game that is now seven years into its life.

Taking down these enemies will require just the right weapons and gear, with Destiny 2: The Final Shape coming with an arsenal of useful weapons and new gear for you to utilize. There are plenty of exotics to collect as well, which will take you some time for some of these. A few of these in particular are accessible only by completing the unique Dual Destiny exotic mission, which I wish there was more of in the game. This tasks you with teaming up with someone else and working together with one having a Light subclass and one having a Darkness subclass and having to solve some puzzles to move on.

The Final Shape also comes with a brand new yet still familiar feeling subclass known as Prismatic that lets you wield the powers of Light and Darkness simultaneously. This subclass has a super, melee, grenade, and Aspect slots with different Light and Darkness abilities from all five types of damage in the game. These vary greatly depending on what your main class is too, so you must choose wisely.

Where Prismatic really shines though is with the new Transcendence state that you can enter at certain points, with it being required to defeat some enemies. You will notice a new bar below the Super meter that is split into two sides of Light and Darkness. These can be built up by dealing Light and Darkness damage or using Light and Darkness abilities, but the easiest way is to find these glowing pink and purple areas on the map where you can stand and fill up both bars quickly. Once both bars are full and have met in the middle, you can activate Transcendence by pressing L3 and R3 at the same time.

Entering the Transcendence state is useful in a number of ways, including increased weapon damage and resistance to damage. It also allows you to move at a faster pace with quicker melee and grenade refreshes. Most importantly though it allows you to break special shields on certain enemies that are invincible otherwise. By hitting them once while in the Transcendence state, their special shield will go away and allow you to deal damage even if your Transcendence wears off. Some of my favorite moments were just barely managing to reach the Transcendence refill areas in time to activate and take out the invincible enemies before I was taken out myself.

Even though the title of The Final Shape expansion has the word “final” in it, this is not expected to be the final expansion for Destiny 2, but rather just the conclusion of the ongoing story arc. That being said, the series is shifting from the season model to episodes, however, with The Final Shape consisting of three total episodes. The first of those is known as Echoes and is what players have experienced since launch, with Revenant and Heresy to come at later points in the year.

The game not only has more content to come as the years go on, but there is a lot of content already in the game at launch. The story itself is not even wrapped up in just the seven campaign stages, but rather culminates in the raid that was released a few days after the initial launch of The Final Shape known as Salvation’s Edge. This raid is a first for Destiny 2 as a whole by having six players and requires you to not only complete the seven campaign missions but also to complete the exotic quest afterward and reach the power level cap of 1965. Getting to this point does take some work for sure, but it’s well worth it for one of the standout raids in Destiny 2 as a whole. This ups the difficulty compared to past raids too, which was a complaint people had in the past.

Verdict

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is a fantastic conclusion to this ongoing story arc by offering an abundance of content, brand new enemies, and a respectable difficulty across the missions and especially the final raid, with the only real downside being the connectivity issues that come with any always-online game. There is still more to come in the two upcoming episodes as mentioned prior, but there is no reason why you can’t jump in now to experience The Final Shape as it is now. This expansion is obviously aimed at those who have been playing Destiny 2 throughout the years, but it also works well enough as a standalone expansion as well that players can jump in and enjoy with no prior Destiny knowledge or experience. Even so, those who have not been fans of the series in the past are not likely to change their mind with this expansion.

Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • The best Destiny 2 expansion to date
  • Satisfying conclusion to the Light and Darkness saga
  • Interesting locales and mission layouts
  • Variety with the new Dread enemies

Cons:

  • A few server disconnects mid-mission
  • The initial loading in can take awhile

Destiny 2: The Final Shape was purchased for the reviewer. You can read MP1st’s review and scoring policy right here.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Update 1.000.268 Drops for Emergency Hotfix This July 6

As part of today’s sudden maintenance, Square Enix has pushed out Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail update 1.000.268, and this is an emergency hotfix to help resolve the Xbox transition issues and more. Read on for what’s new in the FFXIV update for July 6.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Update 1.000.268 Patch Notes for July 6:

FINAL FANTASY XIV HotFixes (Jul. 6, 2024)

■We have taken preliminary steps to address the following issue:

・ An issue wherein the game becomes unresponsive when transitioning between areas (Xbox Series X|S Version Only)

* We have taken several measures that we anticipate will effectively address the memory fragmentation issue we previously identified.

Despite our ongoing investigation into the matter with the assistance of Microsoft, the issue persists in some of our development environments.

Our current progress involves rigorous testing of each potential cause of the issue and verifying the impact of each measure. However, it is highly likely that it will take time to fully uncover and address the issue, so we have applied a version of the process that we believe may be effective to the public servers. Therefore, while we have not yet received the final confirmation that the issue has been fully addressed, we will continue to monitor the situation in the public environment after the patch has been applied.

Should the resolution of the issue require additional time, we will consider extending the free game time we previously announced.

Further reading on the situation: (1, 2)

The following issues have been addressed:
・Certain animations during cutscenes from the main scenario quest and trials did not perform correctly when the system configuration settings for Real-time Reflections were set to High or Standard.
・Graphics were not displayed correctly when using the Eat Pizza emote with specific male Au Ra face type.
・Graphics were not displayed correctly when using scholar’s action Seraphism with certain male characters.
As you can see, other fixes were part of the patch roll out as well, and don’t be surprised if we get another one this coming week. For more on the game’s latest expansion, head on over to the Dawntrail details here.

XDefiant Not Rushed, Game Engine Not Made to Do First-Person Shooters; Entire Infrastructure Built From Ground Up

While XDefiant seems to have had a very successful launch back in May, the same can’t be said for the free-to-play shooter’s Season 1. Not only were players bogged down with technical issues that required multiple patches to fix, but even some of the problems have yet to be resolved, especially with issues such as the netcode, which the devs have mentioned previously as something they are constantly working at.

Aside from the bugs, XDefiant seems to be lacking some important features as well, which are now standard in most multiplayer shooters such as being able to ping enemies/targets, and more. In case you’re wondering whether the devs at Ubisoft San Francisco were rushing to get the game out of the door before Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches in October, they didn’t. This is something Executive Producer confirmed in answering a gamer whether XDefiant was rushed for release. Rubin explained that their shooter is running on a game engine that was primarily used for an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online),  and all the infrastructure for a first-person shooter had to be built from the ground up.

Rushed out? No. What we have is an engine that has only ever been an MMO. And so all of the infrastructure for an FPS has had to be built up from the ground floor. Even CoD started on ID tech which was a shooter engine. Apex started on a shooter engine. But for us we are working on developing all new tech in an engine that was designed for something else. That being said the engine is really great but it does require a lot of work and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already worked out. We’re not a shooter that’s been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you’ll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn’t for you that’s ok you can move on.

In answering a different player, Rubin states that the game engine XDefiant runs on is not outdate, though it wasn’t made to do first-person shooters in the first place.

For reference, XDefiant’s gamne engine is Snowdrop, which is a proprietary game engine by Ubisoft, and has been the base of such games such as The Division 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and even the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. Aside from The Division franchise, most of the games running on Snowdrop doesn’t really involve a lot of shooting, and certainly not in the same vein as XDefiant.

Should the devs have went with Unreal Engine 5 or a game engine more suited to first-person shooters? I honestly don’t think they’d even have a choice to begin with.

Let’s hope XDefiant’s upcoming patch next week alleviates some of the major bugs. These bugs and missing features weight heavily in our XDefiant review, though if other Ubisoft franchise that focus on multiplayer is anything to go by (such as Rainbow Six Siege, For Honor), the devs will be releasing updates and the like for a very long time.

Report: 2K Working on Unannounced Remake

It’s been almost four years since 2K Games made a venture into the world of remakes, giving their popular franchise Mafia a facelift with Mafia: Definitive Edition. Now, a recent discovery leads us to believe that another remake for one of the company’s  franchises is being worked on currently.

The discovery originates from the LinkedIn page of a 3D artist and Motion Capture Animator at 2K. The developer’s profile lists the titles he’s been working on since February 2022: a new Mafia title, the upcoming BioShock, a Cancelled Supermassive Games project codenamed “Erebus”, and the part that’s interesting simply mentioned as “Upcoming Unannounced Remake.”

Although this description only leaves room for the imagination, we can speculate that it will be remaking one of 2K’s classic franchises or maybe a franchise not as popular but still warrants a remake. One title that pops into our head is the 2012 third-person shooter Spec Ops: The Line, which was removed from online stores earlier this year. While it wasn’t as well received at launch, it has since garnered cult-like status especially for its story (which we recognized as brilliant in one of our previous features).

Another possible candidate is BioShock. While we know another entry in the franchise is being developed, it’s been quite a long while since we’ve gotten any movement from the franchise with BioShock Infinite’s release way back in 2013. While we did get re-releases of BioShock and BioShock 2, these were more of remasters than actual remakes.

What do you suppose this unannounced remake is? Sound off in the comments below.

Update: At the request of the 2K employee, we have removed the LinkedIn link and their name from the story.

The First Descendant Down With Server Issues After Patch Roll Out This July 5

While Nexon has just pushed out an update for The First Descendant which should have been good news for the community, it seems it also affected the game servers too. Multiple players are reporting that The First Descendant is down this July 5, with some players stating that people should not update their game client.

The First Descendant Down With Server Issues This July 5:

Multiple gamers have reported on the server issues that a Reddit thread for it was even started:

Login servers are down
byu/NeedaSugardaddyplz inTheFirstDescendant

So far, Nexon hasn’t said anything about the server situation, but I assume that should change soon, as the dev team has been very quick in communication issues.

If the downtime is a long one, expect Nexon to dole out a compensation package to players for the inconvenience. Same as before, we’ll be updating the article as more news develops regarding the servers.

You can check out the complete patch notes for today’s hotfix to see what got changed. We also ran an article detailing the game’s roadmap for 2024, as well as known issues. If you’re still thinking twice whether to download the free-to-play game or not, go read our review here to see what our verdict is.

XDefiant Update 1.000.015 Shoots Out for PS5 Frame Rate Fix This July 4

Ubisoft San Francisco has pushed out XDefiant update 1.000.015, which is the game’s third patch this week! This should be the “emergency” patch planned by the studio to fix the frame rate issues on PS5 that surfaced in the Season 1 patch.

XDefiant Update 1.000.015 Patch Notes for July 4:

Download Size: 330MB (PS5)

Update: Here’s what Executive Producer Mark Rubin had to say about the patch, where he confirms the frame rate issue is better but not fully fixed yet:

While no patch notes have been shared by Ubisoft, we can confirm based on our own testing that this fixes the frame rate issue! However, we can’t confirm just yet whether this fixes the ability locking bug or whether this reverts the spiderbot so that players can shoot on the floor to get rid of it when it latches onto your character’s face.

Another bug we can confirm isn’t fixed with this patch is the stats. So far, after the Season 1 patch was installed, my career stats in the game have not moved an inch, and this is something the devs are aware of, though there’s no timeframe yet for when the fix will be rolled out.

We’re on the lookout for any patch notes from Ubisoft, and if we do get one, we’ll be sure to update the article.

XDefiant Ranked Mode Zero RP Issue Being Investigated, Ranked Roadmap Planned Features Listed

Those who jumped in to XDefiant’s Ranked mode as part of the Season 1 rollout, you might have experienced issues with how RP (Ranked Points) were being rewarded — more specifically, some players are getting zero (o) RP after completing a match, which is a big blow given the main reason to play the mode is to gain RP, move up the rank tiers.

This issue is currently being investigated, alongside other Ranked issues. This is something XDefiant Gameplay Designer Patrick “ACHES” Price acknowledged over on Twitter/X:

We’re aware of some instances were players are winning and being granted 0 RP and we are investigating.

But to be clear: If you leave a match at any point (during the lobby voting, when the match starts, right before the match ends) you will receive max RP loss. You are always incentivized to stay in a game to lose the least RP. If teams are ever uneven 3:2 or worse you will lose no RP at all.

Also soon we will enable the matchmaking sanctions for leaving matches, so you will be temporarily banned from ranked matchmaking if you continue to leave games.

The cause of the issue was identified as well, and well, it seems players shouldn’t die when a match is about to end, or they will end up with zero RP.

Apart from this Ranked mode issue, Price also detailed some of the Ranked features the devs will implement in the mode soon via a quick roadmap of settings incoming at some point:

-Ability Limit (1 per player / per team)
-In Game Top 500 Leaderboard
-Rejoin (Limited time to join back in your game after a d/c)
-Unrestricted Ranked Loadouts (Have all guns/attachments useable, and different set of loadouts from Unranked)
-More robust sanctions including additional RP penalties
-Introducing more modes
-More rewards
+more

Hopefully, the fixes to Ranked are part of the emergency patch planned to be released due to the PS5 frame rate issue, as well as faction abilities being unusable in matches.

XDefiant PS5 Frame Rate Issues, Ability Locked Getting Patched Soon; Spiderbot Counter Reversal Explained

Those playing XDefiant on PS5, chances are you’ve encountered — and are currently suffering from — frame rate issues that basically render the game unplayable since the Season 1 patch dropped. While another update was released yesterday, it seems this wasn’t the emergency patch that would resolve the XDefiant PS5 frame rate issues.

Over on Twitter/X, XDefiant Executive Producer Mark Rubin confirmed that a fix is indeed in the works, and it will be released in a few days’ time:

Sadly, the patch released yesterday ironed out other issues and this wasn’t one of them. Another acknowledged bug is the one where faction abilities can’t be reused even after cooldowns, with players seeing them greyed out. Based on reports, it seems to happen with the Libertad faction’s BioVida ability, and the Echelon’s wall ping, and is affecting players on all platforms and not just the PS5. Rubin acknowledged this bug as well, though didn’t give a timeline on the fix.

Another thing that got busted with the Season 1 patch is the DedSec’s spiderbot ability or more specifically, on countering it. In case you didn’t know, a proper counter to it once it latched on to your character’s face is to shoot the ground, which will eliminate the spiderbot quickly, and without taking away too much health. Well, you can’t do that now. It seems shooting the floor once the spiderbot latched on was a bug, which the devs decided to keep since it’s a valid strategy. Rubin went on Twitter to explain in detail what happened to the counter, and how he confirmed they will be reimplementing it again via another update.

OK now that we’ve gotten through the patch and Ranked is now live, I want to talk about the Spiderbots.

So when the game launched there was a bug that you could shoot down at your feet and destroy the spiderbot. This was not intended. However, there was also a bug in that meleeing them was way harder than it was supposed to be. So we wanted to keep the bug of shooting them off your own face in the game until we fixed other spiderbot issues.

However, the bug fix got integrated into the Season 1 patch and so an important counter was removed unintentionally. We are reverting that fix in the next non-emergency patch. So you will again be able to shoot them off your own face by shooting at your feet. The other changes to spiderbot will remain. i.e. longer cooldown, etc.

For the future, we are going to change the way spiderbot works so that there is a easier and clearer way to get them off you own face. But until then the bug where you can shoot them off your own face will remain.

And we will continue to find other ways to balance all of the abilities over time.

As someone who plays XDefiant on the PS5, this fix can’t come soon enough! I have stopped playing the game since it’s infuriating playing an online shooter where everything slows down and just makes the experience intolerable. Add in the spiderbot not having a viable way to counter on your own, and well, you can see how the game is not in a good place right now.
