Rise of the Ronin Update 1.004.001 Rides Out This April 20

Even if it’s a weekend, that hasn’t stopped Team Ninja from releasing Rise of the Ronin update 1.004.001 on the PS5, and it seems to be a small download, which is understandable given the gigantic patch we got just a few days ago.

Rise of the Ronin Update 1.004.001 Patch Notes for April 20:

Update While there are no patch notes available yet, if you are noticing stutters after the patch, you’re not alone, as others have reported the same as well.

Just as expected, Team Ninja has not given any details on just what changed for this title update. Chances are, it includes bug fixes that either surfaced from the 1.004 patch or the studio didn’t manage to include in time for that patch when it was released. Either way, the studio has been releasing patch notes for this game’s updates quite later than normal.

Perhaps this fixes the gambling den exploit? Or they don’t care much given Rise of the Ronin is a single-player game. Maybe we can expect the devs to finally remove the horse tutorial button prompt to appear on screen when riding the horse?

We’re on the lookout for any changes, and once the official patch notes are available or if we spot any tangible change, we’ll update the article with the info.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail on PC to Get New Benchmark Tool Due to “Lifeless Eyes” and Other Graphical Issues

Before Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail releases on PC this July, Square Enix is aiming to release a new benchmark tool, and the reason as to why is a bit hilarious as it’s due to how characters are appearing lifeless and basically, not human-like,

On the game’s forums FFXIV Director Naoki Yoshida posted an announcement acknowledging the feedback for the recent benchmark, which you can watch below.

Yoshida notes that the character creation system was created over 10 years ago and was based on the release version of A Realm Reborn. While it uses the same processes as the actual game, Yoshida admits that the character creation should have been updated, but was overlooked as the dev team priortized the development of Dawntrail and “tuning the graphical update in the actual game.”

The dev team are currently expediting a rework of the environments and light sources of the character creation for both the actual game and the benchmark, and once that’s finished, the current benchmark will be replaced.

Some of the issues highlighted by Yoshida include:

A. “Lifeless” eyes due to a lack of highlights in the pupils
B. Facial contours appearing flattened due to incorrect lighting conditions caused by backlighting
C. A lack of gloss or excessive appearance of gloss due to character creation-exclusive weather conditions (i.e. the use of thunderclouds)

Yoshida adds that “the special conditions created for the existing character creation system are largely responsible for the points outlined above,” and changing these settings should vastly improve the situation. They are in the process of replacing the benchmark software, though there is no time table for that yet, as it will require some time to investigate issues and reconstruct the benchmark environment. More details and timing of the replacement will be announced at a later date.

XDefiant Servers Running Into Delta-01 and Mike-01 Issues on First Day of Test

In case you didn’t know, today is the first day of XDefiant’s server test session, and while a lot of players seem to be able to play it normally, some are running into Delta-01 and Mike-01 errors regardless of platform.

I can personally attest that it has happened to me even after connecting to the game’s servers, and the XDefiant Delta-01 error showed up after it matched me with other players.

XDefiant Players Seeing Delta-01 and Mark-01 Errors on First Day of Test

The game’s subreddit is littered with people experiencing the issue, and one possible cause is that people are downloading the wrong version of the client. If you’re trying to play using the old XDefiant beta client or just redownloading what’s in your library, that won’t work, but there is a possible fix.

That has fixed the issue for some, though it’s not a guarantee. Again, I have the proper server test client and still saw the Delta-01 issue surface. Odds are, the servers are getting hammered with multiple login attempts all around the world. Just retry logging in and matching up and it should work (hopefully).

If you want to be certain you’re downloading the right game client for the weekend test, you can get it from our links here.

There’s been quite a lot of changes made from the last beta to this one, and if you’re curious what they are, read on for the latest patch notes.

Stay tuned, as we’ll have more XDefiant coverage all throughout the weekend given we have limited time to play the game.

Forza Motorsport Update for April 19 Drops Hotfix 7.1, Here’s What Changed

Turn 10 has pushed out the Forza Motorsport update for April 19, or what the studio calls Hotfix 7.1. This brings a short list of fixes to the racing game, which are listed in the patch notes below.

Forza Motorsport Update for April 19 Patch Notes:

Version Number:

  • Xbox Series X|S: 1.575.5892.0
  • PC (Microsoft Store): 1.575.5892.0
  • Steam: 1.575.5892.0

Today’s Forza Motorsport hotfix addresses a crash caused by thumbnail regeneration for players who have a significant number of cars with unique liveries, as well as a graphical issue on PC where DLSS options stopped functioning correctly.

That’s about it for this title update. In case you didn’t know, a bigger patch was released a few weeks ago, which explains why this is a much smaller title update.

Destiny‘s Trials of Osiris weekly PvP mode has returned this Friday with a new map and rewards. If you’re wondering about the current rotation, we’ve got you covered: MP1st’s new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week April 19, 2024 post lists down all that information in full below.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week April 19, 2024:

Trials of Osiris Map:

Endless Vale

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: The Prophet (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Persistence Losses following a win remove the win from the card. Reaching seven wins rewards the weekly Adept weapon. Reaching seven wins without having a win removed grants access to the Lighthouse. This passage cannot be used to focus Adept weapons. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. Forgives a second loss if you have not yet been flawless this week. 1500 Glimmer
Passage of Wealth Increased reputation from match wins on a ticket. 2500 Glimmer
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 5000 Glimmer

Kena: Bridge of Spirits Gets ESRB Rating for Xbox Series X|S

For those gaming on Xbox Series X|S and looking for an action-adventure game, you’ll be getting a good one soon, as Kena: Bridge of Spirits has just gotten an ESRB rating for the console indicating an announcement and release is imminent.

The filing by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) which has surfaced today specifically notes the Xbox Series as the platform. It’s once again rated “T” for Teen, and the summary is available below.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits ESRB Rating Summary
This is an action-adventure game in which players control a spirit guide (Kena) as she removes corruption and restores various environments. From a third-person perspective, players traverse platforms, solve puzzles, interact with spirits and creatures, and battle corrupted spirits and boss creatures. Players use a magic staff, arrows, and small creatures (called Rot) to strike enemies and drain their health meters in melee-style combat. Enemies (e.g., human-like spirits, tree-like ghouls, giant wood creatures) attack players by using bladed weapons and explosive bursts of fire/energy. Combat can be frenetic, with frequent impact sounds, screen-shaking effects, and cries of pain.”

Kena: Bridge of Spirits, was released back in 2021 on the PS4, PS5 and PC, and was developed by Ember Lab. It received generally favorable reviews and is currently sitting at an impressive 81 on Metacritic. Following its release, Ember Lab has released multiple updates for bug fixes and even for new hats. Currently, the game is part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for April.

Chances are, we should be getting an announce trailer soon with a release date. If you’re curious what we thought of it, our review is available here.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Update 1.000.003 Flies Out

Arc System Works and Bandai Namco have released Dragon Ball FighterZ update 1.000.003 today, and it seems this patch is for current-gen platforms only. This is another unannounced title update, and is the third patch released after the free current-gen upgrade was released earlier this year.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Update 1.000.003 Patch Notes:

So far, Bandai Namco has not released any patch notes as to what got changed. Hopefully, this alleviates the crashing issues that surfaced after the latest patch released at the end of February.

We’re on the look out for any changes and if we spot any, we’ll update the article with the info. For those that notice anything, leave a comment below and let us know what you notice.

While DB FighterZ might not be getting as much support these days, there is another new Dragon Ball game set to be unleashed, and it’s called Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Check out the first gameplay of it and read up on the first 11 confirmed fighters.

Another Dragon Ball game is getting a major content drop on May 24, and it’s for Xenoverse 2 and it’s for the “Future Saga Chapter 1″ DLC.

  • Adjusted how skills deploy on stairs.

Weapons

  • Improved multiple weapon and attachment-related animations.
  • Added new sprint animations for pistols to improve the feeling and timing of our footstep SFX.

  • Increased the visible range of scope glint on Sniper rifles with the Variable Zoom, CQBSS, and Sniper scopes equipped from 100m -> 150m.

Devices

  • All devices have improved collision and are less likely to bounce off invisible geometry.
  • Grenades look better as they fly through the air, which is nice.

  • Fixed an issue with the Scoreboard not updating for players who joined a match in progress.
  • Local player shadows improved to reflect player’s current aim direction.
  • Fixed many issues where your character’s hands or arms did weird stuff.

In addition to that, Ubisoft has also shared the known issues that we’re hoping the dev team will fix before we get to the proper release build.

XDefiant Known Issues Before Launch:

  • When players join a lobby during matchmaking, the list of players present may not update for all players.
  • If a player is killed while activating the DedSec Hijack ability, the ability becomes unusable for the remainder of the match.
  • Players may appear as offline when they are not offline in party management and other social screens.
  • Speech-to-text feature is not working on Xbox Series X|S.
  • If a player is killed while deploying a device, the next deployed device will drop at the player’s feet instead of being thrown. Inconvenient if it’s a frag grenade.
  • Some HUD elements are misplaced on PS5.
  • If a player is hit with by an EMP grenade while deploying an ability, that ability will be unusable for much longer than intended.
  • Xbox users currently don’t see their Xbox Friends list as the primary list of friends.
  • Disabling the in-game overly in Ubisoft Connect Settings will disable all in-game notifications, including social-related features.

It’s been a rocky development process for XDefiant, but it looks like we’re almost into the home stretch. Let’s hope everything in the server test session this weekend goes smoothly, so we can have a proper release date this time.

For the schedule, rewards and other info about the serve test, head on over here.

Arrowhead Says Sony Doesn’t Force Anything in Helldivers 2 Development; Wants to Make Best Live Service Title Gamers Have Ever Played

While more and more gamers are going the live service route, it hasn’t always been met with success, as not only do you need to have a proper player base to make content for, but you also need to make sure that these same players stay interested and engaged. It seems Arrowhead Game Studios has found the magic formula with Helldivers 2, as even after two months since release, the multiplayer shooter is still being played by hundreds of thousands of players daily.

It seems Arrowhead’s goals are loftier than keeping their players engaged, as Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of the studio, states that they are aiming Helldivers 2 to be the best live service title that gamers have played. This statement was posted on the game’s subreddit, where Pilestedt also shared that the studio needs to not just add to the game, but also to fix what’s broken in order to keep the player base interested.

We want to deliver the best in the industry and we are calibrating our efforts of fixing vs new stuff. It’s easy to say “just fix, don’t add”, but the reality of the competitiveness in this industry is that we have to do both to stay relevant.

We are figuring it out, the demands and expectations on the studio is high, all eyes are on us, and we have a sole purpose – to make this the best live game you’ve ever played. We just need to find our stride and balance.

It’s a hot topic at the studio, and I’m sorry for the sloppy mistakes we’ve made as of recent.” – Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead

In another comment, Pilestedt mentioned that the gaming industry is a “complicated beast,” and added that they need to make sure the player base is entertained while they’re “fixing stuff.” The studio boss also wants to squash any ideas that Sony is forcing them to do anything, and how the publisher trusts the studio.

“Also, my intention was just to say that the games industry is a complicated beast. We need to stay relevant and keep everyone entertained while fixing stuff.

The expectations from our friends at PlayStation are pretty simple: “make great game for players. We trust you”

Nobody is forcing us. But at the same time, the pressure is real 🤔 😅 it’s very abstract.”- Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead

So far, so good, Arrowhead seems to be on the right track with their timely Warbond releases and regular title updates for bug fixes and gameplay adjustments.

Do you think Helldivers has a chance to be one of best live service video games of all-time? It seems to be on the right track, no?

Based on what we’ve seen so far, Arrowhead seems to be making all the right moves that we even talked about how Sony should (maybe) focus on smaller games like it instead of AAA offerings.

Today, the studio revealed more details about the Invoker alongside a new gameplay trailer. Check out the gameplay and read on for the Remnant 2 DLC 2 new archetype abilities!

Remnant 2 DLC 2 The Forgotten Kingdom New Archetype Gameplay and Abilities:

Remnant 2 Invoker Archetype Abilities:

  • Prime Perk: Visionary – The Prime Perk, Visionary, allows players to supercharge their Skill usage by granting double Skill Charges and reducing Skill Cooldowns for both equipped Archetypes.

  • Skill: Way of Kaeula – The Invoker unleashes a powerful Tidal Wave while also causing a rainstorm that covers the battlefield. Enemies caught in the downpour are slowed and intermittently blasted by lightning, while allies gain Haste!

  • Skill: Way of Meidra – The Invoker reinvigorates the battlefield which causes enemies to contract Gloom. Allies standing on regenerated land gain a constant Heal over Time and Lifesteal against targets suffering from Gloom.

  • Skill: Way of Lydusa – Infuses the Invoker with the shredding power of Sand, causing Ranged Damage to apply Brittle. Enemies become more susceptible to Critical Strikes and Critical Damage, while the Invoker can utilize Sand Shards, collected from Brittle enemies, to cast a brutal AOE Sandblast.

  • Archetype Trait: Gifted – Increases the duration of all applicable Skills which makes it a perfect unlock for players who want more time to take advantage of Remnant II’s many powerful Archetype buffs.

Expect a patch that’s free for everyone to be released alongside the DLC. Once the patch is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

You can check out more details regarding The Forgotten Kingdom here. Aside from the incoming content, Gunfire also released The Awakened King expansion, which we reviewed here.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the wrong animation and UI feedback to be triggered for an invader, if they cast any summoning spell while other summons where still active.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Crossplay Actively Being Worked on by Larian, Patch 7 to Bring Improved Evil Endings

Those looking to play Baldur’s Gate 3 with their friends on other platforms, that dream is still alive, as Larian Studios confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay and Photo Mode are still actively being worked on, though the studio can’t give a timeframe on when it’ll be available.

According to Larian, the work required to bring these two features into BG3 will likely be “further down the road,” as the studio is also working on the next major update for the game. Speaking of which, we’ve also gotten a rundown of what to expect from Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 7. While these aren’t the patch notes, it does give us a look at what to expect from the title update.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Preview:

Larian states that players can expect improved evil endings in Patch 7, which will come with new cinematic cutscenes! Check out a quick snippet below

(Spoiler Warning!!!)

Per Larian: “We’re working on our next game update, Patch 7, which will add improved evil endings to the game for even darker conclusions to your most sinister playthroughs, and yes, that includes you non-Durge players.”

The studio adds that these new cinematic cutscenes have been given the musical treatment from the studio’s BAFTA award-winning composer, Borislav Slavov.

Alongside the evil endings improvement, players can also expect the following from Patch 7:

Aims to fix several bug fixes including:

  • Jaheira’s unwillingness to follow the group and jump into combat
  • Wyll’s less-than-romantic greetings
  • Disappearing Narrator lines from Gortash and Dark Urge confrontation

There are more bugs fixes included and these are just the tip of the iceberg.

BG3 Patch 7 will also introduce official modding tools, which will let players change up visuals, animations, sounds, stats and more to shape the Baldur’s Gate 3 to your own liking.

Beyond this patch, Larian confirmed that they are working on more bug fixes, performance enhancements to deliver the best gaming experience to players.

Also of note, the studio also reiterated in today’s Community Update that they have moved on from the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, and there are no plans to release any major new narrative content, which is something the studio announced before as well.

Even without Larian Studios, Wizards of the Coast, the owner of the Baldur’s Gate IP, is keen to move forward with the franchise.

Once Patch 7 releases, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Bookmark our Baldur’s Gate 3 game hub for our latest articles on the RPG.
