“Mr. Battlefield” Lars Gustavsson & Other DICE Devs Form “TTK Games, Developing “Completely New” Online Shooter

Last year, EA announced that Lars Gustavsson (Mr. Battlefield or Father of Battlefield) is leaving the studio after 20 years. While a report surfaced that he has set up his own studio, it’s now official, and we know who’s coming along for the ride too.

Called “TTK Games” (TTK is an abbreviation for Time to Kill, which is a term used by shooter gamers), the studio is based in Sweden, and includes notable names such as Daniel Berlin (Senior Design Director), Adriaan de Ruijter (Core Design Director), Vidar Nygren (CTO and Technical Director), Peter Hoyles (Art Director), Feras Musmar (Product Director). If some — or all — of those names sound a bit familiar to you, it’s because they’re all from DICE, the studio that created the Battlefield franchise.

According to the studio’s formal announcement, they are working on a “completely new” online shooter.

On the studio’s website, it mentions the following:

Who are we:

Our aim is to be the respected frontrunners of connected entertainment.

We’re building a studio culture where great ideas can come from anywhere.

Our values

Lead by Example

Push Boundaries

Deliver on Promises

And of course, their past work history is top-tier and includes:

  • Battlefield 1942
  • Battlefield: Bad Company (1, 2)
  • Battlefield 3
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlfield 1
  • Battlefield V
  • Battlefield 2042
  • Far Cry 3
  • Medal of Honor

Aside from the company’s official logo, the official Twitter account is also up. They are also hiring for a multitude of dev positions, so if you’re up to it, go check it out.

Needless to say, we’re excited to see what TTK Games has up its sleeve. Once we know more about their new shooter, we’ll let our readers know.

The Callisto Protocol Update 1.18 Dices Out for May 23 (Update)

Riot mode, the survival-based game mode, is now available for The Callisto Protocol as part of update 1.18. Read on to learn everything included in The Callisto Protocol update 1.16 patch notes.

The Callisto Protocol Update 1.18 Patch Notes for May 23:

Update: We’ve added the official details for Riot Mode straight from Striking Distance.

Survival Basics for Riot Mode:

Jacob Lee finds himself in an isolated corner of the prison, just three rooms and connecting hallways that contain loot crates full of health gel packs, health injectors, GRP batteries, and ammunition. Armed with the stun baton, GRP, a hand cannon, and a riot gun to start, Jacob must defend himself from endless waves of biophage enemies who vary in strength and composition. The longer he survives the more he will be hunted, with increasingly vicious foes, such as the Two-Head, appearing over time.

Unique to Riot is Rampage Mode, a new gameplay modifier that players can activate by scoring points and filling up a meter. Rampage Mode grants a short period of infinite ammo and GRP charges, and enemies will die from a single attack.

Riot Mode’s Scoring System:

Success in Riot Mode is measured through a scoring system that awards points for kills based on weapon used, enemy limbs severed, and types of enemies defeated. At the end of every Riot Mode run, players are given a final score that they can compare against other players. Success in Riot Mode also awards medals based on how long you survive and how many points you earn.

As of right now, we only know that this update includes Riot Mode, a new survival wave-based game mode that pits players against hordes of enemies as they try to rack up the high score and compete against others with the online leaderboards. There are a couple of new cosmetics also included in this update.

As always, we’ll be sure to monitor all community feedback, and will update this post as more gets discovered, or whenever Striking Distance finally releases the full patch notes.

The Callisto Protocol Update 1.019 Out Now for May 23; Introduces Riot Mode (Update)

Striking Distance Studios has begun rolling out The Callisto Protocol Update 1.019 across all platforms for today, May 23. This update introduces the all-new riot mode, as well as some additional content.

The Callisto Protocol Update 1.019 Patch Notes | The Callisto Protocol May 23 Patch Notes

At the end of every Riot Mode run, players are given a final score that they can compare against other players. Success in Riot Mode also awards medals based on how long you survive and how many points you earn.

As of right now, Striking Distance has yet to post any official patch notes for update 1.019. However, as we know from an announcement made earlier this month, this update introduces the all-new riot mode to the game. Additionally, players will also notice some new weapons and character skins included in this update.

What is Riot Mode?

As revealed on the Xbox News Blog: Riot Mode features enemy behavior and wave composition that keep players on their toes. As you progress through the game, you’ll need to adapt your strategies to overcome each new challenge. With only two weapon slots available, you’ll also need to spend credits wisely to upgrade and change weapons and to open health, GRP, and fuse containers. And when things get really tough, activate rampage mode for a temporary buff with unlimited ammo, GRP usage, and enemy insta-kill.

Once Striking Distance has released the full patch notes, we’ll be sure to update this post. For now, go an enjoy the new riot mode!

Guilty Gear Strive Devs Not Against Adding “Dead” Characters, But Would Need a “Convincing Story” for Their Return

Just last month, Arc System Works released the latest fighter in the Guilty Gear Strive roster, and it’s none other than Bedman? If you’re wondering why there’s a question mark, and what the character is doing in the game given they’re, y’know, already dead (killed in Guilty Gear Xrd), the studio has given an explanation ,and even suggests its open to adding dead characters in the game provided they can back it up narratively.

This was revealed Ken Miyauchi, Producer of Guilty Gear Strive, in an interview with MP1st. In the chat, Miyauchi explains the ? in Bedman’s name, and how the character probably won’t be the last dead one we see in the game.

MP1st: Bedman? was a nice surprise that no one expected. To clear the air, are we actually playing as a bed?

Miyauchi: Yes, you are actually playing as a bed. The girl is Delilah, Bedman’s sister. Bedman is gone in the previous Guilty Gear Xrd story. Uncertainty but the bed seems like it has Bedman’s spirit or some sort. That is why it is called “Bedman?”

MP1st: We suppose the community is no stranger to seeing “dead” characters revived in some capacity. Bedman probably won’t be the last?

Miyauchi: Currently, all the characters are following the storyline, that is why the bed looks visually broken and it is dragging its arm since it broke during the Another Story from the Season Pass 1 additional content. If there are any “dead” character returnings, then we will probably prepare a convincing story to fit into the Strive timeline.

Stay tuned to our full interview with Arc System Works hitting the site soon.

As for what’s incoming for the fighting game, Asuka R# is incoming to the game alongside other content this week on May 25.

Summer Game Fest 2023 to Include 3 or 4 “Pretty Big” Announcements

Host and producer Geoff Keighley has revealed that three or four “pretty big” announcements are to be revealed during the upcoming Summer Game Fest 2023 event.

According to Keighley in an interview with Epic Games, the announcements will be “pretty big for this audience,” and considering the scope of Summer Game Fest, it’s possible he’s referring to AAA titles from large studios and companies. As to what sort of games we can expect, Keighley didn’t elaborate. To put things into perspective, Summer Game Fest 2020 included the gameplay trailer for Elden Ring as well as its release date.

The interview with Keighley also touched on a few other topics surrounding Summer Game Fest 2023. According to him, the event will include developers talking about their games on stage in front of a live audience, among other things. Keighley compared Summer Game Fest 2023 to The Game Awards last year, which he himself hosted:

Whereas The Game Awards is very much straight trailer, trailer, trailer, announcement, announcement, announcement. I think Summer Game Fest has a chance to talk to the developers and showcase games and give a little bit more context around games. We’re not giving out awards in the show. It really is just kind of a showcase of games.

And while fans and gamers will be able to enjoy the live show, Keighley stressed the fact that the show itself wouldn’t be a stand-in or replacement for E3:

The consumer experience is really coming to the live show. There will be some games and demos and things released online for fans to sort of play at home and experience. But the consumer experience is limited to the live show. We’re not doing panels. We’re not doing a convention show where you walk around and play games.

Summer Game Fest 2023 will go live on June 8 next month with Keighley set to host the kickoff show.

Battlefield 2042 Vehicle Loadout Changes Coming in Season 5, DICE Monitoring Transport Helis “Closely”

In case you didn’t know, DICE is introducing a host of quality of life improvements in Battlefield 2042’s Season 5. While the studio has already talked about the changes coming to specalists, Irish and Dozer, the studio has also revealed a bunch of Battlefield 2042 vehicle loadout changes incoming too.

This was talked about by the studio in the latest “Inside Battlefield” podcast (episode 12), which you can listen to via Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. In it, the studio talks about the LATV and other transport vehicles having their explosives armaments taken out, though they will get other weapons in place of them. Not only that, but those annoyed at air vehicles will be glad to know that new and old maps will be getting anti-air weapons.

Here’s the tl;dr of the podcast (via Brownlw657):

  • LATV and other transports lose all explosives but gain other guns (LATV gains AA cannons).
  • Wildcats in own category and upgraded AA
  • Bolte gains incendiary launcher in replacement of incendiary mines, also loses 30mm but gains 50mm.Gains detection pulse
  • Thermals for vehicle gunners (not main drivers) as a secondary choice instead of variable zoom.
  • Jets now have a better camera to make them feel less floaty.
  • Jets gain rocket pods
  • When using rear view camera you can now control the vehicle
  • New map gains AA as do the older maps

In a Reddit thread talking about the podcast, Tom Stratford, Battlefield Community Manager, mentioned that they are “monitoring transport helis closely.”

We’re monitoring transport helis closely. If we see it needs further changes then we are able to make them happen.

Other improvements coming to Season 5 include new squad management and squad order additions, and new damage number indicators, which you can check out here.

Do you agree with these vehicle changes? Or you think DICE is tweaking the wrong vehicles?

“X Labs” Call of Duty Clients Featuring MW2, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare & Black Ops 3 Taken Down by Activision

It looks like Activision is further cracking down on third-party software relating to its Call of Duty titles. The publisher has recently issued a Cease and Desist letter on “X Labs,” the Call of Duty client suite that offered improvements to multiple Call of Duty titles, including MW2, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and Black Ops 3.

The news broke out on Twitter via the official X Labs account, with the project now “shutting down all operations permanently.”

X Labs clients provided players with added features that didn’t exist in the base versions of the CoD games, including a list of dedicated servers, improved security, mod tools, anti-cheat, and more. A Discord server also existed to provide support for players using the clients.

This Cease and Desist announcement follows a similar takedown by Activision on sm2, a Call of Duty client that offered various weapons, perks, and other neat features. It’s worth mentioning that while sm2 did not require players to actually purchase a copy of the base game that the client was based on, this was not the case with X Labs. Users of X Labs needed to own a copy of the supported CoD game in order to actually play it through the clients, raising questions as to what Activision considers grounds for a Cease and Desist order.

Seeing as two Call of Duty client projects have been shut down at around the same time, it’s not unlikely for Activision to take down Plutonium, another popular CoD client suite, in the near future.

Amnesia: The Bunker Steam Demo Delayed By One Day From May 22 to May 23

Hot on the heels of multiple delays for the full game’s release, Frictional Games has announced that the Amnesia: The Bunker’s Steam demo has been delayed by exactly one day from May 22 to May 23. While it’s unlikely that this delay is due to performance issues or bugs, it still raises concerns about the state of the game as well as its management.

Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed thrice from its original March 2023 release date: first to May 16, then to May 23, and finally to June 6. The most recent delay was attributed to “unforeseen certification issues,” and the developer chose to announce a Steam demo for the game available May 22 with the delay announcement. That demo will now be available tomorrow instead of today, though the exact reason has not been revealed.

Amnesia: The Bunker will be released this June 6 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The Steam demo will be available on the game’s official page on the store. If there are any additional delays, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Our Molecules have been very hard at work on this update, which is vital to ensure the security and stability of Dreams, as well as the millions of amazing creations floating around in it.

The update is now live in-game. Thank you for your patience while we carried over all the relevant bits and bytes! Below, you’ll find a (pretty chunky) overview of the changes this update has introduced to the game and your Dreamiverse experience. We’ve also put together some detailed Release & Manage documentation, containing step-by-step guides, things to watch out for, solutions and more, to help you understand deletion, managing photos, storage limits and all that jazz.

Important Note!

If you have any issues with downloading the update, reconnecting to the Dreamiverse after the download if complete, or encounter any other issues as a result of the update, please let us know by submitting a support ticket.

What’s New?

  • We’ve introduced online storage limits, which include:
    • 5GB limits of storage, shared across all online data.
    • 256 online creations.
    • 256 online photos.
    • 512 online versions per creation.
  • We’ve added Limits Info pages, where you can view your online and offline storage limits and usage.

For more help and guidance on storage limits, read our new Understanding Limits guide.

A video showcasing the new Limits Info pages.

    • The new server may take several minutes to track and update when the collaborator leaves the creation.
  • Removed the warning that was shown when collaborators saved new versions of an open creation.

    • You’ll still be able to edit creations associated with the Welcome Home and Ancient Temple Creative Imp Quests, but the in-game tutorial will no longer happen.
    • Come Aboard! now requires you to enter DreamShaping after completing the Camera Quests.

If you have already earned PSN Trophies related to the above, this will not impact you, including if you have already earned Dreams’ PSN Platinum Trophy. If you have PSN Trophies in progress in relation to the above, you will lose any progress in respect of that PSN Trophy and will need to complete the new requirements.

Dying Light 2 Celebrating Call of Juarez: Gunslinger’s 10th Anniversary With “Undead or Alive” Event Starting May 10

Techland’s Wild West FPS Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is officially a decade old as of today. To celebrate, the developer is holding a special “Undead or Alive” event in its Dying Light 2 title from May 31 to June 7, featuring special Call of Juarez-themed items and enemies.

During the event, Dying Light 2 players can pick up a Gunslinger-themed Boomstick found only around Special Infected (except Virals), Postal Vans, Ambulances, and Military Trucks. Completing certain goals during the event will unlock exclusive items that hark back to Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, such as Ray McCall’s charm, Dynamite, Bowie Knife (both weapon and blueprint), and 25 Pilgrim Tokens that can be exchanged for gear at the Pilgrim Outpost website.

Additionally, a special Gunslinger Bundle is being released for $6.99 that includes the Silas Greaves Outfit, the Gunslinger Paraglider, and Dynamite blueprint (along with the Bowie Knife weapon and blueprint).
