Black Ops 6 Devs Have Been Playtesting for “Over 2 Years,” Possible References to Gulf War, 9/11 Spotted

In case you didn’t see it, Activision has confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty will be Black Ops 6 and developed by Treyarch. For those keeping tabs on Call of Duty news, you might have seen a rumor surface a few months ago stating that this year’s Call of Duty would be titled “Black Ops Gulf War.” While that didn’t come to pass, it seems part of that info is correct.

Activsion released banner images of Black Ops 6, and if you zoom in, you’ll see “Gulf” in the image:

Image

Here’s a zoomed in look (via CODWarfareForum):

Another thing allegedly spotted is a reference to 9/11, with reliable Call of Duty leaker Bob Network putting the spotlight on it:

The blown up image is from the logo, and we’ve also blown it up, but based on what we see, it’s not 9/11 but “09.0091 2001.”

Image

Zoomed in:

Image

Of course, Bob might know something we don’t. 9/11 of course, refers to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. This is a very touch subject for most people and understandably so. If Treyarch has inserted it in the campaign (or game) somehow, I can see this as being a controversial move that might cause the same ruckus as Modern Warfare 2’s “No Russian” mission.

In more Black Ops 6 news, a Treyarch developer has mentioned that they have been playtesting the game for two years already!

While Treyarch did help Sledgehammer Games develop Modern Warfare 3, the last full Call of Duty game by the studio was Black Ops Cold War, which was released back in 2020. This means that for the first time in quite a long while, a Call of Duty studio had the chance to work on a game for four years. Let’s hope we see the quality reflect the development time when we get to play Black Ops 6 later this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Officially Announced, Cover Surfaces as Official Reveal Is Set for June 9

As expected given the newspaper ads, this year’s Cal of Duty title is none other than Black Ops 6! Activision has officially announced the game, and confirmed that the official reveal is set for June 9 following the Xbox Games Showcase!

Also confirmed today is that Treyarch is once again back in the driver’s seat as the main studio behind the game, with Raven Software assisting development, and we’re assuming will continue developing Call of Duty: Warzone in parallel with this year’s franchise entry.

The “wake up” teaser has also been released, which features Mount Rushmore but slightly…different.

Alongside the announcement, the official key art/cover and a banner has also surfaced and it should be familiar to franchise fans.

CDN media

r/blackops6 - Two Banners for Black Ops 6, including the partially revealed Keyart/Cover.

Expect more info to be revealed on June 9, which is when the Call of Duty Direct is airing after the Xbox Games Showcase.

If the past years are anything to go by, expect a leak or two to make its way before the big reveal. We’re expecting hints or even Easter eggs to be part of the patch rollout of Season 4 of Modern Warfare 3 Warzone next week.

What are you hoping to see from Black Ops 6? Whatever Treyarch’s plans are, the studio will have to do it without studio leader David Vonderhaar who left the company to establish a new studio named BulletFarm with NetEase.

Embracer Group Plans to Release 70 Game Projects Before March 31, 2025, Includes Three “Important Unannounced Titles”

While Embracer has been suffering through hardships and financial turmoil since last year, it seems the company has no plans to exit the video game business. According to the company, 70 game projects are in the works and will be released in fiscal year (FY) 2024 to 2025.

This was revealed by the company’s latest quarterly earnings report where the it states, “. In total, we expect to release more than 70 projects in FY 2024/25, including at least three important unannounced titles.”

No further info was given regarding the “important unannounced titles,” but we’re hoping one of 70 games is the in-limbo project, Knights of the Old Republic Remake, which is said to be “alive and well” per Saber Interactive who’s now handling the project.

Could one of these unannounced projects be the cancelled Deus Ex game? Technically, the game hasn’t been officially announced/revealed, but a report that surfaced this January mentioned that Eidos Montreal was hit with layoffs, with the project cancelled.

There is a chance Embracer announces some of these unannounced titles during Summer Game Fest next month given the release isn’t that far off. This should give the company some much needed positive press coverage given most of the time they’re in the news, it’s about studio shutdowns or layoffs.

To stop the bleeding and recoup some cash, Embracer recently sold off Saber Interactive for $500 million to Beacon Interactive, and also Gearbox Software to Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar Games.

Black Ops 6 Confirmed as Call of Duty 2024 via Newspaper Ad

While Activision has already released teasers for this year’s Call of Duty, the company has yet to confirm which Call of Duty series we’re getting this year. Well, that has changed today, as Activision seems to have taken ad spots in newspapers in the US where it mentions Call of Duty: Black Ops 6!

The ads are featured in USA Today and the New York Post, with both advertisements featuring the title and the game’s logo, which you can see below (via u/Deth3588)

r/blackops6 - Found these at work

r/blackops6 - Found these at work

This puts an end to the rumor that surfaced six months ago that this year’s entry will be titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.” With Activision confirming the title, and a Call of Duty show planned for June 9, expect a formal announcement along with a teaser trailer before the major reveal on the planned show in June.

While not confirmed, we’d be very surprised if the developer isn’t Treyarch, as it’s been the studio’s brand since its inception back in 2010. The last entry in the brand was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (which didn’t include the “V” or “5” numbering), which was released in 2020. It was developed by Treyarch, and was set during the early-to-mid 1980s of the Cold War, and was generally met with favorable reviews.

We’re expecting a lot more details to spill out now that we know it’s Black Ops 6, so stay tuned.

World: Erangel Classic

※ Erangel Classic is available in Normal Match as a featured map and is also supported in Custom Match.

※ Erangel Classic preserves the essence of the earlier version of Erangel, its distinctive appearance and atmosphere, all while delivering the enjoyable gameplay experiences that players have grown accustomed to.

Details

  • Weather: Sunny, Sunset, Overcast
  • Weaponry will be placed on wooden tables on the starting islands.
  • Secret Room and Recall system are not available.

Gunplay

While not identical to the old recoil, Erangel Classic’s reduced recoil will enable players to relive the nostalgia of the old Erangel map. However, this adjustment excludes certain firearms such as SRs, Handguns, and the Crossbow.

  • The weapon pool and specs, except for recoil, remain unchanged.
  • All armor performance is increased by 7.5%.
    • The STK (Shots to Kill) for all firearms will increase by approximately 1.

Tommy Gun

  • Obtainable from the Care Package and removed from world spawn.
    • Cannot be obtained by using the Flare Gun.
  • The default Magazine is changed to a drum Magazine, increasing the ammo count to 100 rounds and adjusting the reload speed accordingly.
  • Attachable Scopes: Red Dot or Holographic Sight

ARs

  • Horizontal recoil decreased by 30%.
  • Vertical recoil decreased by 30%.

SMGs

  • Horizontal recoil decreased by 30%.
  • Vertical recoil decreased by 30%.

  • Vertical recoil decreased by 20%.

LMGs (DP-28, M249, MG3)

  • Horizontal recoil decreased by 20%.
  • Vertical recoil decreased by 20%.

Shotguns

  • Horizontal recoil decreased by 20%.
  • Vertical recoil decreased by 20%.

UI

  • Some of the in-game UI is reverted to the old version, including the world map, minimap, Blue Zone UI, match start timer, and kill/survival UI.
  • Team number, Screen Ping Marker, and Waypoint are available.

Spawn

  • The types and total amount of world spawn items and vehicles will be similar to the current patch.
  • The Helmet (Lv.3) and seventeen classic skins added as world spawn items.
  • When using the Flare Gun, players will obtain the bulletproof UAZ instead of BRDM.
  • Fixed vehicle spawn spots are not available.
  • The spawn spots of Esports vehicles and the Motor Glider have been removed.

Dev’s comment: As announced at the end of April, Erangel Classic makes its comeback with Update 29.2. We’ve redesigned the old Erangel map, providing players a chance to relive their memories, all while embracing the game’s modern enhancements. While realistic recoil adds to the game’s distinctive charm, it has posed a challenge for newcomers. With the gunplay reminiscent of the past, we hope Erangel Classic will evoke memories of the early PUBG days.

World: Rondo

※ The following features are available only in Rondo.

New Item: Zipline Gun

Meet the Zipline Gun, a zippy new travel tool that lets you navigate Rondo in a whole new way.

  • Inventory slot: Secondary Weapons
  • Ammo: Zipline Gun Cable
    • Weight: 2
    • Reload time: 3 seconds
    • World spawns along with the Zipline Gun.
    • The Zipline Gun cannot be used without the Zipline Gun Cable.
  • To deploy a zipline using the Zipline Gun, launch the cable sequentially to any two points of your choice.
  • Ziplines can be placed on buildings, terrain, and stationary, indestructible objects.
    • Cannot be placed on characters, vehicles, Care Packages, or water.
    • Cannot be installed if there are objects in the cable launch path or if the two points are in opposite directions.
  • An installed zipline can be used up to four times.
  • The Zipline Gun cannot be used inside a vehicle.
  • Interacting with an installed zipline will enable you to move in the direction you’re facing.
    • Mid-journey release can be initiated by hitting the Interaction key again.
    • When multiple players use a zipline, you can only move in the same direction as the player already using it, and you’ll wait to prevent overlapping.
    • SMGs or Handguns can be used while riding the zipline.
  • You can use the Limited Interaction key to retrieve cables installed by yourself or other players.
  • When a cable has been installed at the first point, jumping off a cliff, colliding with or riding a vehicle, swapping/unequipping the weapon, or rotating beyond a specific angle will retrieve the cable.
  • The travel speed depends on the slope of the zipline.
  • Can be stored in the trunk of a vehicle.
  • If a vehicle collides with an installed zipline, the zipline will be destroyed.
  • Installed ziplines are not destroyed by explosions.
  • World spawns.
  • Available in Normal Match and Custom Match.

Dev’s comment: Open up a whole new dimension of map navigation and engagement with Rondo’s latest addition, the Zipline Gun. Locations that were previously difficult to reach can now be infiltrated and ambushed via a zipline deployed at your chosen spot. We hope that the introduction of the Zipline Gun will allow for a broader array of strategies and engagements in Rondo, ultimately enriching the game’s meta with increased diversity.

In-Game Challenges

To make teamwork easier, we’re improving In-game Challenges based on player feedback.

  • From the challenge list shown on the left side of the world map, you can now share challenges with your teammates via Radio Message.
  • Challenges cannot be shared while spectating.

World Misc.

  • Removed the Ducati containers from starting islands.

New Feature: Win Streak Showdown

Introducing Win Streak Showdown, where premade teams compete in Normal Match for achievements beyond the Chicken Dinner.

How to Participate

  • Enable the Win Streak Showdown option located under the Select Game Mode panel in the Play – Normal tab.
    • A premade team is required to enable Win Streak Showdown.
    • You cannot invite or join teammates while Win Streak Showdown is in progress.
    • Only Quick Join is available.
    • Win streak will reset if you deactivate Win Streak Showdown.
  • Win Streak Showdown can still be continued when a teammate leaves, even if there is only one remaining player on the team.
  • Once all teammates are ready, Win Streak Showdown matchmaking begins to search for opponents. When an opposing team is found, Normal Match matchmaking will begin.
    • Canceling matchmaking after the opposing team has been found will result in an automatic loss and reset the win streak.

Rules

  • The result of Win Streak Showdown is determined by the sum of your Kill points and Placement points earned from the match.
    • You will earn one point per kill, with additional points awarded based on the team’s placement.
  • Both teams’ scores in real-time are displayed in the top left corner of the screen.
  • When your entire team is eliminated, you have the option to spectate the opposing team.
  • The Win Streak Showdown result is available in the lobby after the match.
  • You cannot proceed to the next Win Streak Showdown match until the outcome has been decided.
  • If the next Win Streak Showdown match is not completed within 2 hours of achieving at least 1 win, the Win Streak Showdown will end.
    • The team will be retained but your win streak will reset.

Rewards

  • You’re automatically rewarded for your win streak at the end of the match, and details can be found on the Match Results page.
  • The rewards for each consecutive win can only be earned once every 7 days, and your reward history and win streak will reset every Wednesday 12 AM (UTC).
  • Achieving a win streak and placing first in the same match will grant Perfect Match rewards.
    • Perfect Match reward is obtainable maximum three times per week.

Dev’s comment: Until this point, the primary objective has been securing that Chicken Dinner, yet in reality, only a select few players achieve this goal in each match. Introducing the Win Streak Showdown feature, we aim to provide the majority of players who don’t clinch the Chicken Dinner with a fresh, rewarding new pursuit: the win streak. Pursue consecutive victories, enhance your skills and teamwork, and reap rewards, all while vying for the Chicken Dinner!

Arcade

※ The following updates apply to Custom Match as well.

Team Deathmatch

  • New Map: Liana
    • Introducing Liana, our latest map exclusively designed for Team Deathmatch! Designed to promote diverse combat opportunities, Liana caters to an array of gunplay styles. Players will encounter a complex network of intersecting routes, bridging varied locations such as the outskirts with a sea view, wide roads, Underpass, Studio, Cafe, Midway, and more.
    • Several elevated areas, including most rooftops, are inaccessible.
  • Respawning in unfavorable locations has been improved.
  • Two new Rondo maps – Warehouse and Suburbia – have been added.
  • The Field and Shipyard maps, identified as having high leave rates, have been removed.
  • Map selection probabilities have been readjusted in alignment with these changes.

Intense Battle Royale

  • Random maps where Safe Zones, vehicles, and Supply Drops spawn differently compared to existing maps have been added.
    • Random maps and existing maps will each make up 50% of the total map appearances.
  • Maximum number of players: 16 → 20
  • Two new Rondo areas added.

Dev’s comment: We launched Intense Battle Royale with the hope that it would live up to its name, offering an intense gameplay experience for Battle Royale enthusiasts. However, as time passed since its initial release and players grew familiar with each map, the intensity and randomness that makes Battle Royale so appealing seemed to fade. With this update, we’re injecting a dose of randomness by incorporating random maps into Intense Battle Royale. This addition of unpredictability aims to revive the freshness of each gameplay session.

QoL

      • Some group emotes do not support the ‘Watch Group Emote’ feature.
  • The Action Wheel slots for Emotes and Sprays have increased from 2 to 10.

Bleach Brave Souls Update 1.58 Removes Support for Older Android OS

KLab has pushed out Bleach Brave Souls update 1.58 on all platforms, though it doesn’t seem to have any gameplay-affecting changes. Primarily, this title update removes support for Android devices using firmware 5.1 or earlier.

Those on PC and mobile, this should show up as Bleach Brave Souls version 15.8.10, though the patch notes for all platforms is the same.

Change to Development Environment

We have completed a change to a new development environment. As a result, the following OSes are no longer supported:

– Android 5.1 or earlier

– Go to the Store at any time to update to the latest version.
– All players will receive 5 Spirit Orbs as a thank you for updating to the latest version.

That seems to be it. If there are any gameplay-affecting changes not mentioned above, we’ll update the article to reflect it.

Battle and Character Adjustments

This update introduces the option to perform a backstep (back dash) for a more precise and easier input compared to having to press back twice. Along with this new input method, we’ve also adjusted throw invincibility properties during a grounded backstep for some characters.

For further details on what has changed, please see the adjustments below.

Button inputs will use the following format:

=Light Attack/=Medium Attack/=Heavy Attack/=Unique Action

System-Wide

Skill Name Details
Backstep If a player inputs a backstep during a throw break, it will register as a late throw break (resulting in a soft knockdown) even if performed on time.

If the backstep shortcut is turned off in your button configuration, this will apply only when pressing back twice. If the backstep shortcut is turned on, it will apply when both pressing back twice or the backstep shortcut.

Added throw invincibility to some characters during grounded backsteps.

This is to prevent grounded backsteps from not being able to escape throws, unlike backsteps with midair properties.

Combo Limit Adjusted the color of the Combo Limit message.
Opponent characters will now flash white when the Combo Limit message appears.

Once the Combo Limit message appears, no additional attacks can be chained into during that combo.

Character Voices Unique character voice lines will now play when players use certain skills while their opponent’s health is below 30% during a round that will determine the victor.

Lowain / Grimnir / Belial / Avatar Belial / Lucilius / 2B

Skill Name Details
Backstep Added throw invincibility during startup frames 3–16.

Nier

Skill Name Details
Misfortune Misfortunehas been adjusted so that it is no longer possible to chain it into follow-up attacks in specific situations.
Drowned in an Exquisite and Eternal Adieu (SSBA) Hurtbox has been extended vertically upward and downward to prevent Nier from whiffing after a successful parry.

Vane

Skill Name Details
Breakthrough Capped maximum damage output when countering to equal Vane’s max health.

This adjustment aims to prevent situations where Vane could K.O. his opponent with a single blow.

Applied other minor bug fixes.

That’s about it. If another patch is released for Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

XDefiant: Prone Mechanic Was Tested and Considered by Devs

Enjoying XDefiant so far? For those who just hopped into Ubisoft’s latest shooter, do you find yourself looking for a way to go prone sometimes to avoid gunfire, grenades or whatever the enemy throws at you? For better or for worse, XDefiant doesn’t let players go prone, and there’s a good reason for that.

Speaking to MP1st, XDefiant dev and former pro Call of Duty player Patrick “ACHES” Price explained why the game doesn’t have a prone button.

MP1st: What was the decision behind not putting a prone position in the game? Is it mostly to prevent camping and to make the gameplay flow faster?

Patrick “Aches” Price: So prone was not in the game when I joined the project. And so it was a decision that was made prior to me being here. But yes, I believe it was something that was tested and considered, but just didn’t happen. (It) Didn’t suit the style of gameplay that XDefiant is going for.

While playing XDefiant, I admit that sometimes I wished there was a prone button so I could lie down and wait for the chaos to subside before surfacing, but at the same time, it does make sense why it’s not a feature implemented by the devs.

We have more XDefiant coverage headed your way! Our interview with Ubisoft regarding the game will be released soon, as well as our review.

Diablo 4 Update 1.47 Patch Notes Lists Timing Out Issue Fix

Just the other day, Blizzard Entertainment released a Diablo 4 update that was primarily for a Masterwork-related adjustment. Today, the studio has pushed out yet another minor update, with the full info available in the Diablo 4 update 1.47 patch notes listed below. For those on current-gen, this will show up as patch version 1.046.

Given this is a minor patch that was released mere days after an adjustment was made, there’s not a lot of changes implemented by this title update. According to Blizzard, this patch was for:

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where some players were timing out when initially logging into the game.

Those on PC, you will see the game version to be at 1.4.0c once you’ve implemented today’s title update. The big patch released last week was for the Season 4: Loot Reborn changes, which makes it the biggest title update yet for Diablo 4.

Once a new patch is released, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Teaser Drops Online: “The Truth Lies” Video and Leaked Image Surfaces

As we quickly approach Xbox’s Call of Duty showcase event happening during Summer Game Fest, we’ve found our hype building for the next title. While Activision has not officially confirmed what the next game will be, it’s been heavily rumored to be a continuation of Treyarch’s Black Ops franchise. With that in mind, the hype has skyrocketed today with the release of the first Black Ops 6 teaser, which hints at the game with a cryptic message: “The truth lies.”

Two teasers, which showed up on a quickly-uncovered teaser site, have already been shared across several Call of Duty accounts, including by CharlieIntel and more.

The first teaser is a real-life, POV perspective of several individuals sneaking into the Mount Rushmore National Memorial to cover the stone president’s faces with banners that read “the truth lies,” along with an orange wolf symbol that we saw on Xbox’s original announcement of their showcase. The second teaser is similar, with the vandals hanging propaganda posters of a blinded Mount Rushmore with the same slogan along a dimly-lit street before driving off.

What’s more, reputable leaker billbil-kun has shared a leaked image of what could potentially be the cover for the next Black Ops:

While the image is blurred, it’s easy to see that it features a military individual sitting in the iconic Black Ops pose with his forearms on his knees. This all but confirms the rumors that the next game in the franchise is part of Treyarch’s most popular series. It’s also likely a continuation of the story we saw in Black Ops: Cold War.

While little is currently known about the next game, it’s been heavily rumored that the full title will be Call of Duty: Black Ops: Gulf War. What’s more, the campaign will reportedly feature an open world setting much larger than anything we’ve seen previously from the franchise. While the Open Combat Missions introduced in Modern Warfare 3 weren’t our cup of tea, we have faith in Treyarch.

Are you excited for Black Ops 6? Does this teaser do anything for you? Let us know down in the comments.
