We’re happy to announce that Ryder Cup Foursomes and Four-Ball is back and available to play in Online and Private Match modes. In Online, Ryder Cup has been added to the daily playlist rotation for Foursomes. This preference is saved so you don’t need to reselect it every time you play.

    • [Store] Fixed an issue where scrolling between pages could show contents from other pages instead of “Coming Soon” tiles.
    • [Store] Added category text to clarify the contents of each store page.
  • Stability:
    • Fixed a crash that occurred when navigating directly between the Skills and Pro Pass tabs.

King of Fighters 15 Update 2.30 Out for ‘Advance Strike’ Mechanic This Jan. 30

SNK has released King of Fighters 15 update 2.30 (PS5 version 2.003.000) today for a new game mechanic called ‘Advance Strike’. Check out the King of Fighters 15 January 30 patch notes down below.

King of Fighters 15 Update 2.30 Patch Notes | King of Fighters XV Update 2.003.000 Patch Notes | KOF15 Patch Notes for January 30:

Here are some details about Advance Strike.

Introducing “Advance Strike,” a new system designed for proactive offense!

“Advance Strike” is a great new way to fend off throws and physical blows, allowing for even more aggressive plays than those possible with Shatter Strikes. This new mechanic costs half a power gauge bar to perform, but you’ll regain that half bar on both hit and block.

An Advance Strike causes a hard knockdown on hit, leaving you well placed for more offense. Unlike Shatter Strikes, the move gains a counter hitbox against throws partway through; if it lands while the counter is active, your opponent will crumple to the ground (and be prone to follow-ups). Use Advance Strikes to bring the fight to your opponent like never before!

The rest of the patch notes follow.

■ SYSTEM XXXXXX
Story ・Resolved an issue where a cutscene (Duo Lon vs Elisabeth) was not playing.
Other ・Resolved minor issues.

■ General
Advance Strike
・Added “Advance Strike,” performed with [↓↙← + HP+HK].
This new attack mechanic helps you fend off enemy throws.
See the “Advance Strike” tutorial explanation for more details.
Shatter Strike
・Increased combo scaling value.
* No change in scaling value when it hits during a combo.
・Made command input window consistent with [↓↘→ + button] Special Moves.
・Raised input priority so that Super Special Moves will not come out unintentionally.
・Made the attack’s active frames consistent for all characters.
* Extended active frames by 1–2F for Ralf Jones, Isla, Ryuji Yamazaki, and Darli
Dagger.
Anywhere Juggles
・Some moves with Anywhere Juggle properties, like Ryo’s Zanretsuken (EX Ver.),
were hitting crumpled opponents (after a Shatter Strike impact, for example)
on the ground unnaturally.
Adjusted for consistency so that the affected moves will no longer hit in this way.

■ KYO KUSANAGI
Shatter Strike
・Resolved an issue where it would pass through opponents under certain
circumstances.

■ ANDY BOGARD
Chou・Shin・Soku・Zan-ei Ken
・Resolved an issue where, under certain circumstances, the move would not catch
the opponent on hit.

■ YURI SAKAZAKI
Tsubame Otoshi
・Resolved an issue where a Tsubame Otoshi performed immediately after attacks
with high combo scaling (such as Blow Backs) would, on successful hit,
deal damage that ignored the scaling value.
* In line with this adjustment, damage when used during regular combos has been
reduced by about 5.

■ RYUJI YAMAZAKI
Todome
・Move was slightly harder to perform than other [→↘↓↙←→ + button] ones.

Modern Warfare 3 SBMM Update: Bots Rumor Debunked, Streamers Not Getting Preferential Matches and More

Last November, Activision and the Call of Duty teams announced that they would be more open about the matchmaking systems in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, including SBMM (skilled-based matchmaking), and now they’ve finally followed through with the first major discussion about it, confirming and debunking several theories behind it.

In a lengthy blog update on the official Call of Duty website, the studios have revealed some new details about the matchmaking system that’s featured in Modern Warfare 3. First up is the general process of how it works in the game and what factors contribute to it.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Matchmaking Process and Factors

CONNECTION – As the community will attest, Ping is King. Connection is the most critical and heavily weighted factor in the matchmaking process.

TIME TO MATCH – This factor is the second most critical to the matchmaking process. We all want to spend time playing the game rather than waiting for matches to start.

The following factors are also critical to the matchmaking process:

  • PLAYLIST DIVERSITY – The number of playlists available for players to choose from.
  • RECENT MAPS/MODES – Considering maps you have recently played on as well as your mode preferences, editable in Quick Play settings.
  • SKILL/PERFORMANCE– This is used to give our players – a global community with a wide skill range – the opportunity to have an impact in every match.
  • INPUT DEVICE – Controller or mouse and keyboard.
  • PLATFORM – The device (PC, Console) that you are playing on.
  •  VOICE CHAT – Enabled or disabled.

“Every time a player begins matchmaking in Multiplayer, for example, the process needs to work through all these factors to find other players (all of which are also being analyzed) to quickly assemble a lobby that is stable and competitive.

These factors have resulted in a process that we believe provides the best player experience and creates a stronger community for Call of Duty worldwide.”

How Does Skill Play A Factor In Matchmaking for Call of Duty?

The teams also opened up about how skill players into their matchmaking, for both teammates and enemies.

“Skill is determined based on a player’s overall performance: kills, deaths, wins, losses, and more, including mode selection, and recent matches as an overall metric across all Multiplayer experiences. This is a fluid measurement that’s consistently updating and reacting to your gameplay. Skill is not only a factor in matchmaking players against appropriate enemies, but also when finding teammates.”

They go on to explain some of their collected internal data, suggesting that SBMM may be here to stay.

“Our data shows that when lower skill players are consistently on the losing end, they are likely to quit matches in progress or stop playing altogether. This has an effect on the player pool. A smaller player pool means wait times for matches increase and connections may not be as strong as they should be. This can compound over time to create a spiral effect. Eventually, when only high-skilled players remain because lower skilled players have quit out of frustration, the result is an ecosystem that is worse overall for everyone.”

Bots, I Swear There Are Bots In The Lobby!

There’s been a theory that has been going around for months now that players are being matched up with bots, due to that specific player’s behavior. We covered some of it here, but as it turns out, they were indeed real players. The blog confirmed this very thing in the community questions, stating that there are no bots used in matchmaking and if that ever changes, they’d let everyone know.

Another working theory is that this is how some content creators and partners have been getting into lobbies where they’re playing extremely well. Many have pointed out the odd behavior of enemies and even teammates in some streams, but again, the studios confirm that there are no such systems, and creators/partners are not getting any special treatment when matchmaking.

Biggest Questions About Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Matchmaking Answered

To round off the blog post, the studio took to answering some of the biggest community questions, debunking several more theories.

Does Call of Duty consider player engagement (time played) as a factor in matchmaking?

We do not consider how often, or how much, you play when determining matchmaking.

Does the Call of Duty matchmaking process impact any in-game elements such as hit registration, player visibility, aim assist, damage, et cetera?

No. Our matchmaking process does not impact gameplay elements.

Does spending money on Call of Duty content (such as bundles, Battle Pass, or BlackCell) change how players are matched?

Money spent does not in any way, shape or form, factor into matchmaking.

Does Call of Duty use bots in Multiplayer matchmaking?

Call of Duty Multiplayer does not use bots as part of the general matchmaking process. If this changes in the future, we will inform the community.

Do partners or content creators get special consideration in general matchmaking?

No. We do not change the matchmaking process based on who owns the account. In specific cases, such as for events like Call of Duty Next, we may be required to customize how lobbies are formed; however, these events usually take place in private matches and do not impact general matchmaking.

Have you ever considered an opt-in/opt-out system for the matchmaking algorithm?

Our data suggests that splitting the player base with an opt-in / opt-out matchmaking system will have negative consequences on the overall player pool. That means, potentially, longer wait times based on the type of matchmaking selected (plus add into that playlist, map and mode history, platform, and more) and matches with poor connections.

Have you ever tested removing skill as a consideration from matchmaking?

We have run tests over the years to determine if removing skill as a consideration from matchmaking makes sense. We will continue to launch these tests periodically. To date, the data remains consistent with what we detailed above – players tend to quit matches or stop playing if they’re getting blown out, resulting in a negative overall experience for all players in the lobby and the general player population. We purposefully do not disclose when these tests occur because it may impact feedback or the data we see during these tests.

Have you considered removing skill from matchmaking in specific general multiplayer game modes?

We have considered this in the past and we will continue to examine if this idea makes sense as part of an experimental playlist or in specific modes. We have nothing to announce on that front today.

That’s a lot of information to take in, and we’re glad to see the teams finally followed through with this update. More deep dive updates are expected to follow, with the technical team currently working on one for Ping and Matchmaking.

So what do you all think, has this finally cleared the air, or were you expecting to see more discussed, such as what improvements will be coming to it?

Report: Embracer Group Cancels New Deus Ex Game and Hits Eidos Montreal With Layoffs

Embracer Group continues on with more layoffs, this time affecting Eidos Montreal, who has also repordedly had their new Deus Ex game canceled in the process.

Embracer Group Continues With More Layoffs and Cancellations

Specifics on the layoffs are still light, but according to Bloomberg, Eidos Montreal has been hit by them as part of Embracer Group’s continued restructuring plans. Sources close to Bloomberg told them that the studio was working on a brand-new Deus Ex game with two years of work behind it before Embracer decided to cancel the project.

It was supposed to enter full production later this year.

Layoffs have been a major event in the gaming industry this past year, with Microsoft cutting nearly 2000 jobs this past week. Embracer Group, however, has been mainly at the center of the news, with many of their studios having mass layoffs and some shuttering over the last year.

As an industry as a whole, we saw more than 10,000 people laid off last year alone. This month alone has already seen thousands, and it unfortunately doesn’t look like this will be the last of it.

Aside from Eidos Montreal, the Embracer Group has also laid off people at 3D Realms, and closed down Free Radical and Piranha Bytes.

First State of Play of 2024 Airs January 31 Featuring Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and More

Sony has announced that the first State of Play 2024 is airing on January 31. It’ll be over 40 minutes long and contain updates on Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and several other PS5 and PSVR2 titles arriving both this year and later down the line.

This news comes from a PlayStation Blog post published this afternoon. It was also unveiled on PlayStation’s official social media accounts:

According to PlayStation, the State of Play will feature extended looks at Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. Both games are slated to release later this year. What’s more, several other titles will be featured in the presentation as it runs for over 40 minutes. This includes both PS5 and PSVR2 titles.

Previously, we’d heard rumors of an Until Dawn PC and PS5 port as well as whispers regarding Death Stranding 2’s full title. There’s a good chance we’ll see both of those titles at this presentation, especially given that those rumors come from reliable sources.

Additionally, Co-Founder of XboxEra and well-known leaker “Shpeshal Nick” tweeted a cryptic message late yesterday hinting at what else we might see from the State of Play:

The tweet, in its entirety, reads as follows:

On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and Kojima will fulfil his dream. Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it.

While slightly cryptic, the information contained in Nick’s message is actually fairly easy to parse. For starters, he claimed the State of Play will take place on or around January 31, which we are now seeing is accurate. This tracked with what other reliable sources have been saying about a potential Sony presentation in the next two weeks.

The real meat of this tweet, however, are the games revealed. Here’s everything we think Nick’s suggesting here:

  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Sonic Generations (potentially a remaster)
  • Silent Hill (likely Silent Hill 2)
  • Until Dawn
  • New Metro Title
  • Judas

We’ve already seen Rise of the Ronin get confirmed for this presentation. There are a few other titles on this list that we find more surprising, however. Sonic Generations? A new Metro title? The long-awaited Judas? These all sound like genuine surprises, especially for a State of Play, but Nick’s been right in the past, and he accurately guessed when the State of Play would air. There’s a solid chance we’ll actually see those reveals.

As is usually the case, please take all of this with a dump truck’s worth of salt. We won’t know anything for sure until we lay our own eyes on the State of Play presentation. Even if the information is accurate, it could always change behind the scenes.

The State of Play will air January 31 at 2pm PST/5pm EST/6am HKT. You can tune into it on all of PlayStation’s usual channels.

Rumor: Concord Gameplay Reveal Likely Coming Soon

Widely known leaker billbil-kun has surfaced yet again with another PlayStation-related rumor. This time, they’ve claimed that a Concord gameplay reveal is likely coming soon, possibly in a State of Play sometime in the near future.

Billbil-kun shared their findings in an article early this morning. According to them, Concord, the multiplayer FPS title from Firewalk Studios announced at last year’s PlayStation Showcase, is going to get a more complete reveal soon. While they were not able to confirm exactly when or where we’d see more of it, they theorized that it could be in an upcoming State of Play.

The game will reportedly have themes heavily inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We got a little taste of the game’s overall vibe during its initial announcement, and from what we saw, that adds up. Additionally, the reveal will supposedly show off some, if not all, of its roster of characters.

Concord is the third PlayStation exclusive that billbil-kun has shared information on recently. In the past couple of weeks, they’ve also shared rumors of an Until Dawn PC and PS5 port and revealed Death Stranding 2’s full title. All in all, there’s enough information here to believe that a State of Play is imminent.

As per usual, take this information with a big bag of salt. We can’t confirm anything until PlayStation makes an official announcement. While billbil-kun has been very reliable in the past, there’s always a chance that plans could change. Still, we’re hopeful that we’ll get eyes on Concord very soon.

We’ll be sure to let our readers know as soon as we hear more or a State of Play is announced.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Servers Down for Maintenance This January 29 (Update)

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League early access has officially launched in some parts of the world. While it’s only been live for a little over an hour, reports of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League servers being down have begun flooding in, with the studio confirming emergency maintenance.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League Server Down Status – Emergency Maintenance to Fix Bug

Update #1: Rocksteady Studios has issued an update, confirming they’ve identified the issue and hope to have a fix live soon.

“We have identified the problem that was affecting player profiles and are currently testing a fix. We hope to implement it and have the game back online as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

Original Story:

Early access for Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League kicked off just a bit ago, and while things were running mostly smoothly, it seems that some have run into a strange bug that has caused their entire campaign to be completed upon first time logging in. This has caused Rocksteady Studios to bring down Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League servers for some emergency maintenance to fix the bug.

“We’re aware that a number of players are currently experiencing an issue whereby upon logging into the game for the first time, they have full story completion. To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance on the game servers. During this time the game will be unavailable. We expect this to take several hours and will update once we have more information. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Not exactly a good start to the early access, especially for those who were playing and happened to get interrupted mid-cutscene. Such an instance occurred with us, leaving us wondering how far back we have to start or if the game decided to push us past the cutscene, missing out entirely unless we replay the parts again.

Let’s hope the servers aren’t down for too long,

As a reminder, an offline mode for Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is coming sometime post-launch, so if you want to ensure you never have to run into any interruptions while online, you may want to wait for that update to drop.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Roster – First 24 Characters Revealed as Goku and Vegeta Variants

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero just got a brand-new gameplay trailer, and it’s all about the rivalry between Goku and Vegeta. Given their long history of pushing each other to their limits, it should come as no surprise that the two also have a lot, and we mean a lot, of different looks and transformations. As it turns out, rather than be in-game transformations or cosmetics, it seems that each variant of Goku and Vegeta will be a separate character, as Bandai Namco has revealed the first 24 characters of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero roster.

Below is a list of confirmed characters for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Roster – First 24 Characters

  1. Goku (Z – Early)
  2. Goku (Z – Mid)
  3. Goku (Z – Mid), Super Saiyan
  4. Goku (Z – End)
  5. Goku (Z – End), Super Saiyan
  6. Goku (Z – End), Super Saiyan 2
  7. Goku (Z – End), Super Saiyan 3
  8. Goku (Super)
  9. Goku (Z – Mid), Super Saiyan
  10. Goku (Super), Super Saiyan God
  11. Goku (Super), Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan
  12. Vegeta (Z – Scouter)
  13. Great Ape Vegeta
  14. Vegeta (Z – Early)
  15. Vegeta (Z – Early), Super Saiyan
  16. Super Vegeta
  17. Vegeta (Z – End)
  18. Vegeta (Z – End), Super Saiyan
  19. Vegeta (Z – End), Super Saiyan 2
  20. Majin Vegeta
  21. Vegeta (Super)
  22. Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan
  23. Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan God
  24. Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

I know there are a lot of variants in there for both characters, but we do have to keep in mind that for every transformation and version, each character did have a somewhat different fighting technique accompanying them. Still, one does have to wonder if some of these spaces couldn’t have just been transformations rather than their own character.

But based on the teaser at the end of the gameplay trailer, it does at least seem like we’ll have tons of other playable characters, some from the classic Dragon Ball Z series and others from Super. Let’s hope that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero manages to squeeze in most of the fan favorites.

Titled “Rivals,” this trailer features our first look at the two characters’ Super Saiyan forms, and as one can expect from a Dragon Ball trailer, expect insane attacks and hard-hitting projectiles to be part of the equation.

What’s Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero About?

Here’s what we can expect from the game (via Steam):

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO takes the legendary gameplay of the Budokai Tenkaichi series and raises it to whole new levels. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot New DLC “Goku’s Next Journey” Announced With New Trailer, Out in Feb. 2024

During today’s Bandai Namco Entertainment Dragon Ball Battle Hour, the publisher announced the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot new DLC titled “Goku’s Next Journey,” which is the last chapter in Season Pass 2, and will be released on all platforms this Feb. 2024!

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot New DLC “Goku’s Next Journey” Trailer:

The wish of 10 years ago has now been granted. Goku meets Uub in DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT’s new DLC – Goku’s Next Journey, coming in February 2024. #DBZK #dbzkakarot

Who Is Uub?

Any Dragon Ball Z fan should instantly be able to recognize Uub, but for those newer to the series and maybe became fans when Dragon Ball Super aired, Uub is a reincarnation of evil Buu. At the end of Dragon Ball Z, right before the destruction of Kid Buu, Goku makes a wish saying he hopes that one day he hopes that Kid Buu will return, but as a good person so that they can have another rematch.

That wish ends up coming true, as 10 years later, during a new martial arts tournament, Goku learns of the participation of a mysterious fighter who is supposedly the strongest pure Earthling. As it turns out, this fighter is a child named Uub, and though Goku tries to go all out against him, he soon learns that Uub has yet to achieve his full potential. This eventually leads to Goku retreating off with Uub so that he can train him to become to fighter he’s meant to be.

We later see Uub in Dragon Ball GT, though that series isn’t considered canon. He has yet to make a reappearance in the Super anime.

If it wasn’t also obvious, Uub spelt backwards is Buu.

No firm release date has been given outside of Feb. 2024, but that should change very soon. Expect a title update to be released alongside the new DLC, and once we know more, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Speaking of title updates, the latest one released was back in December, which you can read about here.

Outside of a new DBZ: Kakarot DLC announcement, a new trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is set to be unleashed today too.

Beautiful Light PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Versions to Be Released If PC Version is Successful Enough

There’s a new extraction shooter incoming, and based on what we’ve played so far, it’s not only looking fantastic, but shaping up quite nicely as well. I’m referring to Deep Worlds’ Beautiful Light. While the game is confirmed for PC, there is a chance of a Beautiful Light PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, provided the PC version does well.

Q: Do you plan to release Beautiful Light for platforms other than PC?

Here’s what you can expect from it (via Steam):

Grow as a member of the Quick Reaction Force or invade other players’ raids as a monstrous anomaly.
