Cyberpunk 2077 Sales Reach 25 Million, Phantom Liberty Sells 3 Million in Its First Week

Today, CD PROJEKT RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has reached 25 million sales, with its DLC Phantom Liberty reaching 3 million sales in just a few short weeks.

This news arrives via a tweet from CD PROJEKT RED’s Global Community Director Marcin Momot:

Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky start, but it saw a surge in popularity late last year after the release of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. The team behind the game has put a lot of effort into fixing its issues and making it a high-quality experience ever since then, and with the latest release of the 2.0 update, the game finally stands where it was supposed to back when it was released in 2020.

The Phantom Liberty DLC also just launched a couple of weeks ago, and it’s phenomenal to see that 3 million copies have already been sold. It’s a great addition to the base game, and the player base seems to agree. Seeing the game reach its full potential is fantastic.

We gave Phantom Liberty a 9.5/10 in our review and called it “one of the best gaming experiences” of the year. Give it a read here.

Twisted Tower Preview – Frenetic Promise

Developer Atmos Games has been silently working away on their latest release, Twisted Tower, which is being published by 3D Realms. While still in early development, they felt confident enough in their progress to invite MP1st to take an early look at it. This was a hands-off demo, but it still managed to impress nonetheless. Take a look at our Twisted Tower preview below.

Take Us Back a Century

The story of Twisted Tower takes place in the very specific year of 1922. Why that year in particular was chosen remains to be seen, though, of course, it could just be a random choice with no implications for the story. Mr. Twister is a world-famous toy maker who also happens to host the world’s most popular brutal game show, called Twisted Tower. Here, contestants engage in fierce combat as they attempt to reach the top of the tower, at which point they will be awarded the princely sum of $10,000,000. Due to inflation, this would be worth around $183 million today, so it’s a world-changing amount of money.

In a nod to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, only those who find a Velvet Ticket within one of Mr. Twister’s famous toys can participate in the deadly game. 18-year-old Tiny is in love with a young woman named Charlotte, who unfortunately has become engaged to a school bully named Preston. Naturally, Tiny hopes to win the contest to get the money and the girl. Something tells me it won’t be so simple, though, and with a dark past he must confront, Tiny certainly has a difficult road ahead of him.

No Big Daddies Here

The inspiration from BioShock is obvious, though not so overdone here as to be boring or same-y. The whole vibe of Twisted Tower can best be described as retro-futuristic as if the world remained stuck with 1920’s aesthetics, but the world still filled up with marvelous inventions that made life better, or at least more entertaining. Even the tower itself has some character. The player will progress through each level, which takes place on a floor of the tower. Within most floors, there are also occasionally branching paths. Pressing one button over the other takes the player through only one half of the floor, and the only way to see what the other half of the level has to offer is to replay the game (or perhaps reload a save just before that point, if the game ends up supporting that functionality). This will no doubt add some replayability to Twisted Tower.

Twisted Tower is a first-person shooter in the style of old-school shooters mixed with more modern sensibilities (though not too many). Enemies are plentiful, health is limited, and items are randomly placed within boxes – during our demo, for instance, hardly any health pickups spawned, resulting in our demo player staying in a near-death state for quite a while until he finished a floor and promptly died at the onset of the next. Death does restart the entire level, which will be a point of contention for those not used to such setbacks in most of the FPS games you can find these days, but this will likely please those looking for a challenge.

The Unity Engine is used for developing Twisted Tower, and for such a small team (Thomas Brush is the coder and founder of Atmos Games), the production values are off-the-charts good. Honestly, at first glance, you could tell me this was produced by a team a dozen or so strong, and I’d believe it. All characters are fully voiced, the levels and character models are well-detailed, the lighting sets a perfectly dark mood, and the sound design is also fittingly violent. Atmos Games has hired some additional help, so now three people are working on Twisted Tower, a number so small I had it confirmed multiple times because it really is impressive what has been done here.

Great Potential

Developing any game is a long process, and while Twisted Tower appeared to have many of its systems ready, Atmos Games was actively tweaking things leading up to our demo. They had just tweaked the jump speed, for instance, slowing it down a bit from its original DOOM-like speed to something that didn’t feel like you were highly caffeinated. This caused one room that was jump-heavy to require much more precise jumps, something our demoer forgot about as he confidently leaped to his death. When a game can still give its developer a challenge, you know you’re in for a treat.

Twisted Tower has a lot of promise. For a small team of three people, the production values are incredible here. Even for much larger teams, this would be a great result. While a release date is not yet ready to be announced for Twisted Tower, it’ll no doubt end up on many wish lists in the meantime. Fans of old-school shooters should feel right at home, and you’ll want to stay tuned for updates as development on this game progresses.

Payday 3 Patch for October 5 Delayed to “Mid-October” Due to Stability Concerns

In case you didn’t know, Starbreeze was originally set to drop a Payday 3 patch for October 5, and even said that it included over 200 fixes. Well, it’s October 5 today, so where is it?

As it turns out, the Payday 3 patch has been delayed to sometime in “mid-October.” Apparently, the patch was pushed back for stability concerns.

Heisters. We’re extremely sorry for this, but we’ve chosen to delay today’s planned patch to ensure its stability. The patch needs some changes that would require us to go through console certification again. We hope to be ready to deliver this one for mid-October.

And yes, this means that the PS5 bonus content will remain unredeemable until this patch is ready.

Hopefully, this means we’ll get a proper roll out next week. At the very least, the servers should hopefully hold up. Once we know more about the update, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

In other Payday 3 news, the devs confirmed that progression changes are in the works, though they can’t go into specifics just yet.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core Brings Roguelite Action to Sci-Fi FPS

The world’s greatest space-dwarf mining simulator is back. Announced this morning, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is a co-op roguelite spin-off of one of the best co-op games in recent years. The game’s aiming for a November 2024 early access launch.

Here’s the teaser trailer for the newest game from Ghost Ship Games:

Here’s some information about the game from its Steam page:

STORY

deep rock galactic rogue core

Expenite, a new mineral of incredible value and utility, has been discovered within planet Hoxxes IV! Space mining company Deep Rock Galactic immediately sets up covert mining operations deeper than ever, to harvest this precious material. But without warning, all the dig sites go dark, and all contact is abruptly lost.

GAMEPLAY

deep rock galactic rogue core

Each Rogue Core mission begins with selecting your loadout. Pick a Phase Suit equipped with an Active Ability of your choice, as well as one of a range of unique Reclaimer Weapons. Once loaded up, you board your Drop Pod and land at the outer boundary of a lost dig site, facing the Greyout Barrier surrounding it. Luckily, R&D has equipped you with a device capable of carving a hole through the Barrier — but once you go in, there is no way back except mission success. Proceed through the Barrier on foot and fight your way down multiple procedurally-generated stages to the deepest and most dangerous level of the dig site.

During each stage, you will salvage caches of DRG equipment and weapons to expand your arsenal for that mission. The dig sites are also full of the wonder-mineral Expenite. Deposit any Expenite you can find into your trusty Processor Drone to generate a wide range of powerful temporary upgrades. Thus, as you progress ever deeper, your power will grow, but so will the challenge. Every advantage will be necessary to make it through all the stages, reach the Core, and reclaim the dig site.

Between missions, you return to your ship – the RV-09 “Ramrod”, parked in low orbit above Hoxxes IV. By completing mission tasks and reclaiming dig sites, you will earn the means to research and permanently unlock new Reclaimer Weapons, Phase Suits, and Suit Mods. Expand your gear options and experiment with various setups to tackle the deepest and most dangerous dig sites.

OPEN DEVELOPMENT

deep rock galactic rogue core

With the announcement of ROGUE CORE, we want to invite you along for the early, early, early open development journey of Rogue Core. That means that you will be exposed to early ideas, early sketches, early mockups, and early implementations, way before stuff is “done”. …Did we mention this was early development? Also, this is a good thing.

We started our Open Development journey on Deep Rock Galactic two full years before we even launched into Early Access, and by now we feel very experienced with the process. The engagement we established with our community during and after that time has simply been awesome. The process made DRG a better game than it otherwise would have been, and we very much want to reproduce that for Rogue Core as much as possible.

In other words, this is our open invitation to you. Come join us on this journey as we tackle making a game right from the very earliest stage of development, way before we launch into Early Access. We recognize that this kind of thing is not everyone’s cup of tea, and if that’s the case, no worries. But we have faith that a lot of you will.

We will keep you up to date on the Steam forum and on Discord. If you are interested, join us and help us make Rogue Core the best game it can be!

Further down the line, there will of course also be Closed Alpha testing to be done. So follow us, if you’re interested in getting your feet wet in the early-early access versions of the game.

Are you looking forward to hopping back into the DRG universe?  Let us know.

If you’re still playing the original Deep Rock Galactic in the meantime, check out the latest patch notes here. Otherwise, stay tuned to us here at MP1st for all DRG news.

The Aether Storm creating the zombies will also begin to spread across the map at the 45-minute mark, meaning players will have to act fast to avoid becoming zombie dinner.

Wonder Weapon

We can also see our first look at the new Wonder Weapon: The Scorcher. This weapon is built for demolishing the highest density of zombies. Its alternative fire launches you into the air if you want to get away from zombies or dive right into the fray.

Upgrading Your Arsenal

In the extraction-based gameplay featured in this iteration, players will be able to store and use weapons they’ve successfully exfilled within their future matches, including fan favorites like the Ray Gun. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to start future matches with these classic weapons!

Throughout the map, players will additionally find blueprints that allow them to create acquisitions outside of the match, providing benefits like starting a deployment with Juggernog.

Monsters and Humans

Zombies features much greater enemy density this time around, and it’s not just the undead you’ll be fighting. Battle against mercenary soldiers working for the Terminus Outcomes PMC hired by the main antagonist Viktor Zakhaev. In addition to a variety of undead and otherworldly creatures, prepare to face one of the biggest Zombies creatures to ever appear in the mode.

A private PMC group will also try to stop players from achieving their goals. These AI human enemies will patrol significant locations on the map and attack players on sight. Clever gamers can train zombies into these hostiles to take them down or just go in guns blazing to kill them all.

MW3 Zombies Intro Mission

The team showed off gameplay of the introductory mission for MW3 Zombies. You can watch that here:

MW3 Zombies will launch day one with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
