Activision Removes TimTheTatman’s Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Bundle Upon His Request in Support of NICKMERCS

Following the removal of the NICKMERCS skin bundle from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, Activision has removed yet another streamer’s skin from the games. TimTheTatman asked Call of Duty makers to pull his skin from the game in support of his friend and colleague, NICKMERCS.

This started on June 7 when FaZe co-owner NICKMERCS replied to Puckett, who quote-tweeted a footage from LGBTQIA+ protestors being attacked by conservatives outside of a school board meeting. Puckett advocated for the protestors stating that Americans are in a “sad place right now” and said, “let people love who they love and live your own life.” NICKMERCS replied to Puckett’s tweet by saying “They should leave little children alone. That’s the real issue.” You can read more about that here.

NICKMERCS’ statement stirred up controversy, leading to Activision removing his skin from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. Timthetatman took to Twitter and announced his support for NICKMERCS, calling it “wrong” for having his skin while the NICKMERCS skin has been pulled out. Find the full tweet below:

Activision responded to this by honoring Tim’s request and removed TimTheTatman operator bundle from the Modern Warfare 2 and the Warzone store. Find the full acknowledgement by an Activision spokesperson:

At Tim’s request, we have removed the TimTheTatman operator bundle from the Modern Warfare II and the Warzone store.

MP1st believes in equality and inclusion for queer people and celebrates LGBTQIA+ values and contributions to society. We hope that this situation is resolved soon, and wish our readers a very happy Pride Month!

Report: Titanfall 3 Was in Development for 10 Months Before Getting Scrapped in Favor of Apex Legends

A Titanfall 3 game was apparently in the works at Respawn Entertainment for a total of ten months before the project was scrapped, according to an interview with a former Titanfall dev.

Mohammad Alavi, a former game designer for Titanfall, revealed what went on during the development of Titanfall 3 and what eventually led to the creation of Apex Legends, the free-to-play battle royale spinoff title based on the Titanfall universe. Here’s an excerpt of the interview via The Burnnetwork:

Titanfall 2, y’know, came out, did what it did, and we were like, “Okay, we’re gonna make Titanfall 3,” and we worked on Titanfall 3 for… ten months, right? In earnest, right? I mean, we had, like, new tech for it, we had multiple missions going, we had a first playable, which was like, on par to be just as good if not better than whatever we had before, right? But I’ll make this clear—incrementally better, it wasn’t revolutionary. And that’s the kicker, right? And we were, like, feeling pretty decent about it, but not the same feeling as Titanfall 2 where we were making something revolutionary, y’know what I mean? And then the multiplayer team was having a hell of a time trying to fix the multiplayer because a lot of people love the multiplayer.

People love Titanfall 2 multiplayer. But people who love Titanfall 2 multiplayer is a very small number of people. And most people play Titanfall 2 multiplayer and think it’s really good, but it’s just too much. It’s cranked up to 11, and they burn out a bit fast. And they’re like, “That was a great multiplayer, that’s not something I continually play for, like, a year, two years,” right? So we were like, trying to fix that, we were trying to fix that from Titanfall 1 to 2, trying to fix it from Titanfall 2 to 3, the multiplayer team was like, just dying. And then PUBG came out. *laughs* And I don’t know if you remember Alex Roycewicz but Alex Roycewicz was starting to play PUBG. And then Geoff started playing PUBG. And then they made a battle royale map with, y’know, Titanfall 3 classes.

Alavi went on to reveal that after positive reception from staff members testing the game, he and the rest of the team decided to pivot to develop Apex Legends, seeing the potential in the new mode.

And at the time, I had just literally become [the] narrative lead designer on Titanfall 3, I had just pitched the… story, the whole game, that me and Manny had come up with, made this big presentation and then we went off a break and went back from break, and we talked about it, and we were like, “Yeah, we need to pivot. And we need to go make this game.” ‘Cause we literally canceled Titanfall 3 ourselves ’cause we were like, “We can make this game, and it’s going to be Titanfall 2 plus a little bit better, or we can make this thing, which is clearly amazing.” And don’t get me wrong, I will always miss having another Titanfall, y’know what I mean? I love that game, Titanfall 2, like I said, is my most crowing achievement, but it was the right call. That is a crazy cut. Such a crazy cut that EA didn’t even know about it for another six months!

Based on Alavi’s telling of the story, Titanfall 3’s development was hindered by the difficulty and complexity of its multiplayer mode, and with the rising popularity of battle royale games, Respawn Entertainment decided to instead shift its focus to Apex Legends instead. This led to Titanfall 3’s effective cancellation, and while Respawn Entertainment’s CEO isn’t against the idea of the sequel making a return, it “has to be the right thing,” according to a recent statement.

Diablo 4 Sales Hit over $666 Million in First Five Days; New Game Stats Also Revealed

Diablo 4 has performed incredibly well for Blizzard, with the new action RPG game reaching a total of $666 million in sales in its first five days, a seriously impressive number even by AAA standards. The game was revealed to be Blizzard’s fastest-selling game of all time just last week.

To give a similar comparison, the highly successful Hogwarts Legacy game released last February reached $1 billion in sales last May, three months after release. It also out-grossed the worldwide box office for all 2023 horror films combined.

Alongside the major sales achievement, Blizzard also revealed some interesting stats pertaining to Diablo 4. Here’s all of them via the press release Bizz sent out:

  • 276 billion total monsters killed since launch
  • 317 million player deaths (…time to git gud)
  • 276 million total hours played since early access (that’s more than 30,000 years, or enough time to watch everything on YouTube with 13,500 years to spare)
  • More 166 million player parties created (party on!)
  • 5.8 million total deaths served by The Butcher
  • 430,000 players killed in PvP battle
  • No. 1 on Twitch from early access on June 1 through June 9, breaking previous Blizzard records for hours streamed and watched over a similar period

It’s not surprising for Diablo 4 do to so well on Twitch given its popularity during the various beta tests. The game also has a total of 276 million hours played thus far (counting early access), and 317 million player deaths, among a few other interesting numbers.

Diablo 4 just recently got a hotfix for bosses, PvP, and dungeons. You can read more about it here.

Roller Champions: Jet Set Radio Event Announced for June 27

A new event for Roller Champions, Ubisoft’s free-to-play PvP sports game, has been announced, and it’s a collaboration with the iconic hip-hop-themed action game from 2000, Jet Set Radio. The Roller Champions: Jet Set Radio event is set to go live this June 27.

Check out the trailer below:

The new event will include characters Gum and Beat, a new skatepark in Tokyoto, and a JSR-themed goal explosion.

While this does mean that we’re finally getting some more Jet Set Radio content, the fact that it’s coming from an in-game collaboration event and not as a new standalone title may disappoint some fans of the classic title. It’s worth mentioning that the gameplay footage of this event seems to be different from the Jet Set Radio remake leak that spread online last April (the video in the original article has since been taken down, but you can find a reupload of it on YouTube here).

Here’s a brief overview of Roller Champions if you’re looking to try the game out for the Jet Set Radio event:

Skate, tackle, and roll your way up to glory in Roller Champions™. Discover a free-to-play, team PvP sports game like no other! As a Roller Champion, you compete in a team of three against three.
The rules are simple: take the ball, make a lap while maintaining team-possession, dodge your opponents and score. You can go for more points by completing additional laps before attempting a goal. After each match, you gain fans to ultimately compete in even bigger arenas. You can also customize your character and go from zero to hero, creating your own unique destiny.

Get ready to Roll up to Glory!

While we don’t have a whole lot of info on the Jet Set Radio event just yet, more of it will be revealed in the coming days, so stay tuned if you’re interested.

Ark Survival Evolved Update 2.96 Adds Rhyniognatha Fixes This June 12

Studio Wildcard has released Ark Survival Evolved update 2.96 on all platforms, and this brings a host of fixes to the Rhyniognatha, which was added last week. Read on for the official Ark June 12 patch notes down below.

Ark Survival Evolved Update 2.96 Patch Notes for June 12:

v715.3 – 06/12/2023 – Major version for servers and clients

  • Dismounting a Rhyniognatha will now remember your previous camera view instead of always going to TPV
  • Added additional locations on the Rhyniognatha that enemy turrets can aim for when carrying a character
  • Rhyniognatha’s Resin Bomb direct hits now correctly deal their intended damage of 300
  • Reduced Rhyniognatha’s Health Scaling by approximately 30%
  • Adjusted the scaling of some UI elements to prevent them getting cut off at larger resolutions

That’s about it for this title update. Don’t expect any major new content for Ark Survival Evolved, as Studio Wildcard is gearing up for the release of Ark 2, which is due in 2024.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Revealed for Meta Quest 2 and 3; Set for Holiday 2023 Launch

Ever wanted to know what it felt like to play an Assassin’s Creed game in VR? Well, Ubisoft has just announced Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, an upcoming action VR game that will let players experience the franchise’s iconic historical action combat and gameplay through virtual reality. The game is set to launch this Holiday 2023 on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3.

The trailer, which was made using CGI, can be found below:

Here’s the official description of the game taken from the YouTube video:

Become the Assassin in Assassin’s Creed® Nexus VR. Embody legendary Assassins in an all-new story built exclusively for VR. Parkour and climb freely across open maps as you decide how to achieve the objectives. Use real world motions with a variety of weapons as you fight reactive enemies. Maneuver stealthily by hiding in the shadows or blending in amongst civilians. Experience the rush of air assassinations and the daunting leap of faith. Innovative VR functionality provides the ultimate immersive experience with best-in-class comfort features to help with vertigo or fear of heights.

The trailer was made using CGI and doesn’t actually feature any gameplay footage, so we don’t really know what the game actually looks like based on the footage we’re given. Still, Assassin’s Creed is a franchise that seems to suit VR pretty well, and with other upcoming AC titles in Mirage and Codename Jade, fans of the series will have something to look forward to no matter what platform they play on.

XDefiant Year 1 Roadmap Revealed With 1 New Map Every Month Confirmed, PS5 and Xbox Series X to Run at 120hz

Not only did Ubisoft announce that XDefiant is set for release this summer and is getting an open beta later this month, but the XDefiant Year 1 roadmap was revealed as well. In addition to that, Producer Mark Rubin took the stage to confirm that the free-to-play shooter will be getting one new map each month for the next 12 months!

XDefiant Year 1 Roadmap and Info:

As you can see in the roadmap, each new season will bring:

  • 3 new weapons
  • 3 new maps
  • 90 tiers of Battle Pass

With each season lasting three months, a new map to play in per month sounds like a good way to keep things fresh. In addition to that, there’s also an assortment of other stuff too, like Ranked mode, balance passes and more included in the Year 1 roadmap.

Another thing revealed today is that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will run at 120hz! Of course, you’ll need a TV or monitor to support this feature, but this is still a good inclusion. For those not familiar with what 120hz (Hertz) offers, this is the refresh rate, and in plan terms, should offer noticeably slicker and smoother visuals.

This was confirmed by Mark Rubin over on Twitter after the event:

If you’re curious what will be available before the game’s first season drops, head on over to our official launch content breakdown.

XDefiant launches this summer for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X| and PC.

Report: FTC to File Injunction Against Microsoft’s Activision-Blizzard Acquisition

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is reportedly expected to file an injunction against Microsoft and its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. The FTC will be filing a temporary order on Monday to prevent the transaction from occuring.

With Microsoft’s acquisition deal having been announced over a year ago, quite a few countries (and their respective relevant organizations) have decided on where they stand with the deal. China, South Korea, and the EU have all given the deal the green light, whereas the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has issued an order blocking the said deal.

The acquisition deal’s termination deadline is fast approaching, with the date set for July 18, just a little over a month away. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the deal ends by then, as it’s possible to extend the deal or renegotiate terms if needed. Microsoft President Brad Smith had this to say about the FTC’s recent actions:

We welcome the opportunity to present our case in federal court. We believe accelerating the legal process in the U.S. will ultimately bring more choice and competition to the market.

Two closed-door meetings in the FTC have also been scheduled for Monday, so it’s possible we’ll hear even more updates from the regulator following the results of the proceedings.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade Closed Beta Announced Alongside New Trailer

Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed title for mobile devices, just got a new trailer. An Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade closed beta was also announced, with players now able to sign up for the test (link here).

You can watch the trailer below:

The new trailer begins with a cinematic followed by what appears to be in-game footage of Codename Jade’s various areas. We also get some combat gameplay from Codename Jade, though it’s worth mentioning that the footage shown in the trailer isn’t from the final product, so the game could very well look different when it releases.

Though this trailer is a pretty major reveal from Ubisoft officially, a major gameplay leak of Codename Jade actually surfaced last December. The footage is from an earlier version of the game, with some elements of it being missing, such as voiceovers during cutscenes. Still, it should give players a general idea of how Codename Jade plays and what it looks like (albeit in an incomplete state).

While signups for the closed beta test are currently ongoing, we still have no idea when Codename Jade releases, though you can expect it to be available on both iOS and Android devices (though you may need a powerful smartphone if you want to play it at its best). In the meantime, check out some new footage of another upcoming AC game, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.
