Report – Leaked Pre-Alpha Footage of Free Radical’s Cancelled Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Surfaces

Over 30 minutes of pre-alpha footage of Free Radical’s cancelled Star Wars: Battlefront 3 title has allegedly leaked online, showing off a rough but intriguing concept of what would have been for the cancelled first-person/third-person Star Wars shooter.

The footage shows off a mix of infantry and vehicular combat on iconic Star Wars locations like Hoth and Coruscant. Being pre-alpha, the gameplay is obviously unfinished, but it’s still pretty interesting to see some of the work that went on.

[youtube id=”IebD4cyQiSo”]

[youtube id=”zJQViUir2Hw”]

The Battlefront series is no stranger to leaks. Footage of Star Wars: First Strike, a downloadable first-person shooter that was meant to act as a stepping stone to Battlefront 3 proper but was also cancelled, surfaced earlier last year.

Now, Battlefield developer DICE is hard at work on a Star Wars: Battlefront title that — fingers crossed — is definitely not going to be cancelled any time soon. It is expected to launch sometime around the release of the new Star Wars movie in 2015.

As for Free Radical, they have since been rebranded by Crytek UK as Deep Silver Dambuster and are currently working on Homefront: Revolution.

Rainbow Six Siege – Ubisoft on Meaningful Objectives in Game Modes like Hostage Rescue

In Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft hopes that the no respawn rule always in effect will change the way you think about playing modern first-person shooters. No game mode demonstrates that better than Siege’s Hostage Rescue, which, so far, is the only mode the studio has put on display for fans anxious to see the return of the classic tactical shooter.

In Hostage Rescue, the hostage is, naturally, the focal point of the match. But, what happens when players ignore the objective all-together and end up playing the mode like a game of Team Deathmatch? According to Ubisoft, it is often the case, but isn’t really an issue.

“A round ending in TDM isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” said Game Designer Chris Lee in a recent blog entry on the studio’s official website. “The hostage (or any objective) is there to provide areas of interest for firefights to happen. Players naturally gravitate towards the objective because of the incentive/threat. As soon as they close in on him or her, the tensions rise and everyone acts more carefully. The fact that the hostage isn’t being extracted all the time isn’t really an issue for us.”

That said, the studio admits that the “defending team not seeing the hostage as a threat, and thus roaming free around the map,” can be an issue that developers hope to address with two methods: making hostage escort and extraction easier and improving the game’s interaction system.

Lee touched on the importance of having a singular and meaningful objective in a game like Siege.

“Usually, other games go around the issue by having two objective locations separated out. In Siege however, we want to create a strong fortified area as a point of interest. When you have multiple objectives, the siege isn’t as strong since the defenders are forced to go all in in one location or spread out too thin.”

Later in the blog, Ubisoft promises new game modes in the future “with multiple objective locations that fits easier with the no respawn rule in effect.”

“We want to put you in the position of actually caring about what you’re trying to accomplish and working with your team for something bigger than any individual,” says Ubisoft.

Rainbow Six Siege is aiming for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC next year.

Your adventure in Far Cry 4 will extend well beyond launch day with new single player, co-op, and pvp missions.

Five different content packs will be offered throughout the game’s lifecycle this year and next, including new story content that can be tackled solo or with a friend, and a brand new competitive multiplayer mode called Overrun. By the looks of it, there’s also a bit of Yeti hunting to take part in.

Today, Ubisoft announced that you’ll be able to pick it all up, including a day-one exclusive mission, with Far Cry 4’s just-unveiled Season Pass for $29.99 USD, available for all platforms on November 18. According to the latest press release, it’ll save you 20% off purchasing each pack separately. You can also get it as a apart of the Far Cry 4 Gold Edition, now available to pre-order on PlayStation and PC, soon on Xbox One.

Check out everything that’s included in Far Cry 4’s Season Pass with the press release details below:

The Syringe

“Available launch day exclusively for Season Pass holders, players must keep a rare and potent recipe from falling into the hands of Pagan Min’s forces. Playable in single-player and co-op, players will need to ensure that he does not use its devastating effects on the rebel forces.”

Escape from Durgesh Prison

“Ajay and Hurk have been rounded up and tortured in Yuma’s prison. On your own or with a friend, escape and survive the hostile lands of Pagan Min’s Kyrat.”

Hurk Deluxe Pack

“Five missions, including Yak Farm, Blood Ruby and the Hurk’s Redemption missions are available, along with an arsenal of new weapons including “The Impaler” Hurk’s harpoon gun.”

Overrun

“Team up as Rakshasa or Golden Path in this PvP mode and control a series of neutral locations across Kyrat’s countryside to protect them from being overrun by your opponents.”

Valley of the Yetis

“Ajay’s helicopter has crashed on an unforgiving Himalayan ridge. Explore the frozen landscape and find tools to upgrade your camp and protect it from a dangerous cult when night falls. With single-player and co-op options, players will not be alone, but in the darkest caves players will have more to fear than the cult as the yetis await their prey…”

As with the Coagulation and Warlock remakes, Hoberman sits down with IGN to offer a rundown of the new Anniversary design in a video that you can catch below. There’s also some one-flag CTF gameplay on Stone Town to check out as well.

Next Destiny Hot Fix Will ‘Buff’ Vex Mythoclast, Tweaks to Vault of Glass Raid Boss Incoming

Bungie’s newest weekly update is out and, in it, the studio addressed a couple of noteworthy tweaks that are being introduced to Destiny in the coming weeks.

Following this past week’s weapon balance update, Bungie has stated their intent to revisit the changes that were applied to the highly sought-after Exotic Vex Mythoclast Raid weapon. While an appropriate ‘nerf’ was applied to it in PvP scenarios, the tweak ended up weakening it a little too significantly in Destiny’s PvE environments.

According to Bungie’s most recent notes, here’s what’s happening in the next Hot Fix, coming “soon”:

  • We are adjusting the base damage on Mythoclast. We are going to find a value that works for both PVP and PVE.
  • In addition, we intend to raise Mythoclast’s attack value above and beyond the other exotics. Attack value dictates how much damage players deal to combatants and Mythoclast attack value being raised will make it more effective in PVE.

In addition, the update will also address a few unintentional mechanics in the Vault of Glass Raid. For instance, the final boss, Atheon, will no longer be able to fall of the ledge near his spawn and players he teleports to alternate dimensions during the battle will now be chosen at random:

  • We’ve added “baby bumpers” to areas where players could knock Atheon out of the environment.
  • Knocking a boss off a ledge is a bug. We will seek to address bugs like these as quickly as possible.
  • A change will take effect next week which fixes a bug with Atheon’s target selection. When using its Timestream ability, Atheon will select 3 players at random, instead of choosing the three players furthest from it.

According to Bungie, it may be a while before some of these changes take effect, as the studio has “a more substantive update in certification right now, which slows down [their] ability to make changes to the Live game.”

Keep your sights on MP1st for more updates on Destiny.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Has Gone Gold, 45GB Pre-Download Now Available, 20GB Content Update at Launch

45 gigabytes of Halo goodness is now available to pre-download on Xbox One in preparations for Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s official launch on the dawn of November 11.

343 Industries’ Dan Ayoub announced today that the studio’s (and Xbox’s) largest Halo project to-date has officially gone gold and will now launch on November 11 for the majority of Halo fans around the globe — Belgium, Japan, and France being the only regions to see launch on the 12th, 13th, and 14th, respectively.

As if 45GB was not enough, an additional 20GB day-one “content update” will also be required to get access to everything The Master Chief Collection has to offer.

If you need the reminder, that’s Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, every Halo multiplayer map ever made, and a remastered Halo 2 Anniversary edition including new visuals, cinematics, and music. The only piece of content that won’t arrive on launch day is Halo 4’s Spartan Ops mode, which will instead launch in December. “We’re making some technical enhancements to that experience to make sure it’s smoother and even better than before,” Ayoub explained.

Of course, The Master Chief Collection will also grant any owner access to the Halo: Nightfall digital series and the Halo 5: Guardians beta, which starts on December 29 and ends on January 18.

So, get downloading that Master Chief Collection right away, as you’ll probably be at it for a while, depending on your internet connection.

Keep your sights on MP1st for everything Halo.

  • Snap Updates – We’ve updated the Snap Center to include quick access to many of the things our fans wanted faster access to when playing a game – Friends, Messages, Game DVR, clock, and battery indicator – as well as making it easier to close and open new snap apps when playing a game. A double tap of the Xbox button on your controller will bring up a menu that allows you to open a new app in snap mode, close the current snapped app, or switch focus between your game and your running snapped app. Additionally, two apps have been optimized for Snap mode:
    • Friends Snap App – Access your friends list without leaving the game. Quickly check your friends list to see who’s online right now and take actions like send message, invite or join.
    • Messages Snap App – You’ll be able to open, read and respond to messages in Snap mode, and messages will now be displayed in a threaded conversation view.
  • Achievements App – Updated to enable sharing of achievements you’ve unlocked with captions, see a list of friends who have unlocked specific achievements, and an updated achievements Snap landing page that that shows Achievements on recently played games, when a gamer is not actively playing a game.
  • Friends section – The new Friends section enables you to see at a glance what’s going on with your friends. You can stay up-to-date with their current activities, the most popular games your friends are playing, and a Gamerscore leaderboard to see who has improved their Gamerscore over the last 30 days.
  • New SmartGlass features – You can now see a list of your top games in your profile. You can also see a list of your friend’s most popular games in the Friend’s section of SmartGlass.

Improvements for TV and video

We’re excited to roll out updates that will make your viewing experience better than ever on Xbox One, whether you want to watch TV or use SmartGlass as a universal remote.

  • Media Player DLNA and MKV support – The latest version of the Media Player app will now have support for DLNA streaming. With this update, you will be able to easily access and play music, watch photo slideshows or movies stored on home media servers and devices that support the DLNA server protocols. Additionally, you will now be able to playback MKV files stored on a USB device or a device on your home network that supports DLNA streaming.
  • Live TV MiniGuide – For markets where OneGuide is available, a new MiniGuide on the bottom of the screen will display details about the TV content that is currently playing. You can quickly change channels, see what’s on other channels, and tune to the previous channel or other recent channels. While watching TV, you can also launch Miniguide using voice, by saying “Xbox Select – MiniGuide”
  • OneGuide in 11 new countries – Live TV listings and schedules will be made available to customers on Xbox One and SmartGlass for Belgium, Chile, Columbia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Russia in the next few days.
  • Internet TV Apps – Apps with live TV channels can now include their TV listings within OneGuide. In addition, other Xbox TV features such as channel changing using speech and Miniguide will work with these apps. These features are enabled automatically the first time you sign into a supported app. The first app to support this feature will be Zattoo with an upcoming content update for their app. The Zattoo app is available in Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark.
  • Universal Remote Control in SmartGlass – If you are in one of those 11 countries that are getting OneGuide TV listings, you will also be able use your mobile device to control your Xbox, TV, and/or Cable/Satellite box.
  • Live TV initial setup experience – This update will enable you to select “On start, go to TV” for your Xbox One console. Additionally, you will be shown a one-time message highlighting this new capability, if you had previously setup Live TV or have not yet set “On start, go to TV” under Settings – Power & startup.
  • Live TV Cable & Satellite Box auto-detection – In select markets the Live TV Setup experience is being improved by attempting to automatically detect the set-top box connected to the HDMI-In port on your Xbox One.

New accessory and “hide” features

We are also excited to roll out a few other cool features this month:

  • Updated Devices & Accessories page – To access the new page, go inside Settings, where you can Find, Assign, and Update Xbox One accessories. You can now more easily “assign” accessories to specific users, such as assigning a headset to a specific gamer.
    • Firmware updates – You can update the firmware for an individual device.
    • Find my Controller – You can also more easily find (or identify) a controller by making it vibrate.
  • Hide Games and Apps on your console – You can now hide items in the “Ready to install” list under My Games and Apps. This is a per-console setting and items will reappear in the list if they are installed again from the Xbox Store. To access the shortcut to temporarily show “hidden” items, press X while holding down both triggers and it will show all hidden items until you exit My Games and Apps.

Password resets just got better

We’re making it easier and more secure to reset your password and add protection to your accounts. Coming later this month, if you haven’t set up your security information already, we’ll ask you to provide an alternate email address or cell phone number to use if you ever need your password reset. You’ll only need to set this up once per account, and you won’t need it every time you sign in. To set up your account security go to https://account.live.com/proofs/ and get more information at http://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/security/add-security-contact-information.

Fans are playing favorites with Halo 2, making its debut on the Xbox One next month in Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One.

Not only will long-time fans of the series be able to revisit the original, untouched Halo 2 single player and multiplayer, now in 1080p and 60fps, but gamers will also be treated to a completely redone campaign and six remastered multiplayer maps in the brand new Halo 2 Anniversary edition.

If you’re anxious to see the old and new in in action, new gameplay of both classic and remastered Halo 2 single player and multiplayer has surfaced, courtesy of IGN, which you can watch below.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection drops November 11 on Xbox One and includes Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo: Nightfall, and access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta.
