Final Fantasy 16: Aerial Combo Tips and Tricks

Final Fantasy 16 shares quite a few similarities with Devil May Cry games in terms of combat, and this means there’s a lot of freedom when it comes to how you execute your combos. In particular, Final Fantasy 16’s aerial combo system offers a lot of flexibility, with many ways to keep you (and your target) airborne.

Whether you’re looking to improve your score in Arcade Mode or simply want to add more style to your gameplay, these aerial combo tips and tricks will give you the inspiration you need to form your own deadly maneuvers.

Final Fantasy 16 Aerial Combo Tips and Tricks

Jump + Charged Blade

Charged Blade, the ability which lets you hold down your melee attack to unleash an empowered swing, is very useful at keeping you in the air. It launches you up slightly when cast, allowing you to continue your combo. You can actually prepare Charged Blade while midair after jumping or using Garuda’s Eikonic Feat on a larger enemy. Note that Jump + Charged Blade requires precise timing and is a lot more difficult to pull off than with Garuda’s Eikonic Feat.

While it is possible to charge your melee attack, then jump, then release, it’s slightly less efficient. Clive swings his sword with a normal melee attack before charging, so it’s better to use that first hit while you’re already in the air instead of doing so before jumping.

Evade Reset With Stomp

Stomping not only allows you to jump higher up, but it also resets your Evade action. Evade can only be used once while in midair, but with the help of Stomp, you’re able to evade up to three times before landing on the ground again.  This lets you dodge attacks and reposition without landing, though the timing requires considerable skill and knowledge of the enemy’s attacks in order to use this move effectively.

Prolong Air Combo With Abilities

All of Garuda’s abilities can be used mid-air, and they allow you to stay mid-air for longer than usual. Gouge, in particular, will keep you in the air as long as you cast it, and using Garuda’s abilities between your melee combos will allow you to further extend your total airtime.

Prolong Air Combo With Magic Burst

The Magic Burst combo (melee attack + magic attack) can be performed mid-air, and you’ll want to use it often while doing aerial combos. It’s worth noting that the final Magic Burst will cause Clive to launch himself away from the target, which may not be ideal if you’re trying to stick to the enemy. As such, consider using an ability or Stomp instead of the third Magic Burst to keep on the pressure.

Charged Blade + Magic Burst

You can prepare Charged Blade while also using Magic Burst at the same time for a stylish aerial combo. During your second melee attack, hold it down instead of simply tapping it. After the second attack connects, follow it up with a Magic Burst while still holding down your melee attack button. Once your sword starts burning, release the button to perform a Charged Blade attack. You’ll find that preparing your Charged Blade like this is extremely efficient, especially for aerial combos.

It’s also worth noting that you can perform this trick with Charged Magic by holding your magic button, then using a melee attack, then releasing the button. However, using Charged Magic while airborne also causes Clive to push himself away from the target, so keep that in mind.

While these tips are by no means advanced or in-depth, they should give you the foundations on setting up clean aerial combos. With precise timing and enough practice, you can defeat any opponent using aerial combos without breaking a sweat.

Hearthstone Update 26.6 for June 27 Brings New Mode, Tweaks and More

Blizzard has released Hearthstone update 26.6 this June 27, and this lets players pre-purchase Titans, adds a new game mode and more! Read on for the official patch notes for the latest Hearthstone update below.

Hearthstone Update 26.6 for June 27 Patch Notes:

Pre-Purchase TITANS

Get ready to meet your makers in Hearthstone’s next expansion, TITANS, coming August 1! In the beginning, massive titan world-souls shaped life on Azeroth. Now, they’re coming to shape Hearthstone! With mythical characters and out-of-this-world effects, this is the dawn of the age of the TITANS!

TITANS is bursting with primordial power and 145 new collectible cards. You can learn more in the TITANS Announcement Blog. Two pre-purchase options are available now so you can start forging decks as soon as the expansion launches.

Log in and Get the Prison of Yogg-Saron for Free!

Log in to Hearthstone now for your first taste of TITANS with the free Prison of Yogg-Saron Legendary Location card!* When the titans came to Azeroth, they found it infected by chaotic Old Gods, deeply embedded into the planet. The titan-forged armies defeated the Old Gods, but were unable to safely remove them. So, instead, they locked the Old Gods away in massive, enchanted prisons. Now, the Legendary Prison of Yogg-Saron, Hearthstone’s first-ever neutral Location, is yours to watch over—just beware of Yogg-Saron’s creeping, chaotic influence.

Limited one per account. After Patch 27.6, Prison of Yogg-Saron will be granted upon opening your first TITANS pack, instead of upon logging in.

Hearthstone’s Newest Mode: Twist

Patch 26.6 will kick off the Beta seasons of Hearthstone’s newest Mode, Twist! Twist will be replacing Classic. Like the other Hearthstone Modes, Twist is a constructed format where you build a deck and compete in a ranked ladder climb. But, unlike Standard and Wild, each Twist season has a special twist on the eligible card pools or rules! In Twist, you can replay all your old favorite cards, but see them in a whole new light.

The Twist Beta period will run during Patch 26.6. For that Beta period, the following sets will make up the eligible Twist card pool (but with no neutral cards):

  • Core
  • Demon Hunter Initiate
  • Ashes of Outland
  • Scholomance Academy
  • Madness at the Darkmoon Faire
  • Forged in the Barrens
  • United in Stormwind
  • Fractured in Alterac Valley
  • Voyage to the Sunken City
  • Murder at Castle Nathria
  • March of the Lich King
  • Path of Arthas
  • Festival of Legends

Don’t worry if you don’t have cards from all those sets, we’ll be offering 6 Battle-Ready Decks specially created for this Twist format, such as Libram Paladin, Weapon Rogue, and Questline Druid! These decks are perfect for players who don’t have the cards for the format and just want to jump right into the fun. Each of these Battle-Ready decks will be offered in regular (3200 Gold or $19.99) and all-Golden (12000 Gold or $79.99) versions.

In-Game Event: Twist—New Age

To further celebrate the Twist Beta, we’re throwing a special in-game event. From July 3-July 11, you can complete Twist-based Event Quests to earn Event XP on the special event rewards track. Complete the rewards to earn six packs from Hearthstone’s New Age that you can use in the Twist Beta seasons, one from each of: Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy, Madness at the Darkmoon Faire, Forged in the Barrens, Fractured in Alterac Valley, and United in Stormwind!

In-Game Event: Fire Festival Returns

The Fire Festival is back! From July 11-August 1, join the annual midsummer celebration with special Event Quests and prizes for both Traditional Hearthstone and Battlegrounds. Complete Event Quests to earn Event XP on the special event rewards track. Complete the rewards track to earn three Standard Packs, two March of the Lich King Packs, a Festival of Legends Pack, the Sparkhoarder Togwaggle Battlegrounds Hero Skin, and the Felblaze Illidan Demon Hunter skin.

The survey is quite in-depth, and again, if you want your voice to be heard, take the time to answer it.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Gameplay and Keanu Reaves Interview Released

A couple of new promotional videos for CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion have been published. One video includes a gameplay showcase of Dogtown’s Black Market, and another features an interview with actor Keanu Reaves, who played Johnny Silverhand in the base game.

First up, here’s the gameplay video:

In Dogtown’s Black Market, players will be able to find powerful cyberware and weapons that can’t be found elsewhere. You will also find illegal weapons and goods in the Black Market that are both powerful and dangerous to use. The Black Market is ruled by the Barghest Militia, headed by Kurt Hansen, who maintains some semblance of order in the area. CD Projekt RED has included easeter eggs and secrets in the Black Market, encouraging players to explore the area in all of its unique charm.

The interview with Keanu Reeves can be found below:

In the interview, Reeves talked a bit about Dogtown, the new area in Night City that players will be able to explore in Phantom Liberty:

Night City has its own kind of levels to it, and I think Dogtown is kind of going down to a darker place. It’s dystopian, it has a tension to it. And this undercurrent of kind of violence, you know, like and struggle, you know, can I swear? Shit’s gone down in Dogtown.

He also shared his thoughts on his role as Johnny Silverhand, and how he approached portraying the character.

Oh, that’s what makes it so much fun. He is outspoken. He is a little grumpy and he has a right to be. He’s been used, he’s been abused, he’s been abandoned. And I think that through that kind of hardness of his outside, there is a vulnerability to him. And I think what’s great about it is I get to play that character in so many different ways. And so the range of it is cool.

Finally, Reeves also talked a bit about Idris Elba, who plays as Solomon Reed in Phantom Liberty, with Reeves drawing comparisons between Reed and Silverhand.

I think Solomon has some things in common with Johnny in the sense of the military, the sense of being used, abused. You know, it’s in the title, right? They’re fighting for liberty. You know, Solomon’s kind of trying to reclaim his life, you know? And Johnny’s doing the same thing, You know, it’s Cyberpunk 2077, so it might start off as revenge and it might end as revenge. But I think sometimes he feels like he’s lashing out at the wind, you know? And I think Solomon has been living out in the kind of the desert of his life, right? Kind of hiding and harboring. But I think he also has that kind of soft and hard side to him as well.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty arrives this September 26 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Striking Distance Boss: The Callisto Protocol Universe Teeming With “Potential,” Devs Never Stop Thinking of “What Might Come Next”

With The Callisto Protocol’s last piece of content now available in the Final Transmission DLC (at least to PlayStation owners, with Xbox and PC getting it on June 29), Striking Distance finally puts the finishing touches on their debut horror game. Now, the big question here is: will we see a sequel?

This is something we asked Striking Distance boss Glen Schofield during our interview. While we weren’t expecting him to confirm whether The Callisto Protocol 2 was on the way, Schofield did give a rather very interesting answer.

MP1st: I know you’ve spoken in the past about already thinking about ideas for a sequel. Not that we’re expecting a confirmation here, BUT with this being the final DLC and all, for the fans of the universe, will this be farewell? Is there a stinger of sorts for the end of it? Or maybe a post-credits scene? What’s next for the team?

Glen Schofield: Right now we’re totally focused on giving players the awesome DLC they’ve been asking for, so I don’t want to get into what’s next. But look, I’m never short on ideas. There’s so much depth to The Callisto Protocol that we could dig into, so many more stories to tell, more characters to meet, and more dark corners to explore.

I won’t beat around the bush – we absolutely love the world we’ve built. It’s been a labor of love, something that we’ve poured our hearts and souls into. We’ve crafted a universe that we believe is teeming with potential and it’s one that we’re incredibly passionate about.

Am I going to confirm anything today? Nope, PR would kill me. But we never stop thinking about this game and what might come next.

Do you want to see a sequel to The Callisto Protocol? What would you want to see changed or added on to it? Let us know down in the comments.

Stay tuned to our review of Final Transmission hitting the site soon. Our full interview with Schofield will be out later this week.

Cyberpunk 2077: CDPR Had to Rebuild a “Lot of Things” Inside the Company, Wants to Rebuild “Connection” With Gamers

CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, is well-known for its launch fiasco back in 2020. In the years following the game’s release, however, CD Projekt Red had apparently been working behind the scenes to improve relations with players, according to an interview with the company’s VP of PR and Communication, Michał Platkow-Gilewski.

Platkow-Gilewski shared his thoughts on how CD Projekt Red handled Cyberpunk 2077’s launch, citing that a lot of work needed to be done to fix the reputation of both the game and the studio.

We’re in a cool moment right now. Yes, the road was bumpy. When everything was awesome and amazing, before the release of Cyberpunk… it was the time of my life, but it was too good to be true. The game was shaping up to be amazing and we were all super hyped. But this hype surrounding us was a big pressure. Then there was the release and it was not a fairytale anymore.

We knew that we had to work hard to come back. It was a tough moment for everyone. We had to rebuild a lot of things inside of the company. We started with pipelines on the dev side, we started to think should we tie our future with a different engine or should we stay with our own? We made some decisions about how we work, how we are structured. It was a big rebuilding.

One of Platkow-Gilewski’s biggest concerns was that to rebuild trust in gamers, particularly in the studio’s core audience.

The biggest thing was standing up and saying ‘we have to do it’. Yes we were expecting a different launch for Cyberpunk, but now we have another chance in front of us. For me, as the person responsible for communication, I want to rebuild the connection with gamers, because we had people following us for years and they were disappointed. That’s, for me, is the biggest thing. We have to make the game for them.

Let’s hope the game’s redemption arc continues with its upcoming DLC, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which launches this September 26 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Meet Your Maker Sector 1: Dreadshore Review – Raiding New Landscapes

In our Meet Your Maker review, we couldn’t but express our appreciation for the brutality and claustrophobic murder traps of Behaviour’s latest. A mean, lean killing machine that often plays out as the most authentic of horror game shows, as death looms around every corner and every ramp, it also encourages creativity as you built your outpost for other players to raid. Now, with the release of the Sector 1: Dreadshore DLC, we get a new environment, a new suit, and a few more reasons to travel into the wastelands to scavenge more genetic material for the Chimera.

Into the Murky Lands of Dreadshore

The clash for the most interesting addition in Meet Your Maker’s first major content expansion was a tight one, but the new environment came out on top. The charm of the Red Sands, the game’s first and only backdrop until now is beyond question, with the arid surroundings and the hopeless landscape giving it an unmistakable Mad Max feel.

With Dreadshore, the somewhat clear sights of the desert area are exchanged for an infinitely ominous and desolate wasteland, where you start under heavy rain that conveniently pauses as you approach the outpost. Aesthetically it’s brilliant, with fog and an oppressive atmosphere that is enhanced by the rotating beam of the ominous lighthouse in the horizon. The industrial debris scattered across the land give this environment a look that is closer to some of the grittier Fallout games, and works as a great alternative to the original Red Sands landscape.

Meet Your Maker Sector 1: Dreadshore Review

The new Custodian is the second-best addition coming with this expansion. It’s a new suit, a new playable class of sorts, and it may trigger memories of Bioshock and the series’ iconic Big Daddy. Donning an ancient diving suit complete with a thick metal diving helmet, this hulking figure is exactly what it looks like, a class focused on defensive attributes. The Nautilus, as it is called, enhances the effects defensive weaponry, with suitable biolinks that decrease weapon recharge times, among others. It’s a balanced addition to the roster, encouraging a playstyle that was somewhat overlooked until now, as players only had the choice between a suit focused on ranged combat and another one that excels at melee combat.

The remaining extras aren’t as significant, yet add to Meet Your Maker in small but relevant ways. The Ravager is a new guard that you can both use as outpost protection and face in your raids, a one-armed scarred monstrosity who fires bolts that spread out, consequently increasing the range of the deadly projectiles, making a late escape nearly impossible. Combining a few Ravagers often results in an array of bolts that make it hard to avoid unless by sheer luck or a well-timed evasion using the grapple hook.

A new trap of devilish proportions makes an appearance. Called the Sentry Beam, it’s an orb that tracks the player and shoots a laser beam that bounces off surfaces. Using a few of these traps in clever positions and adding some creativity to spice up the area, such as a few Ravager guards here and there, your outpost can turn into a magnetic beam show of death, with little to no respite for anyone but the cautious and the skilled. Adding mods that widens the deflection and increases the number is a surefire way to make it even more stressful for raiders.

Meet Your Maker Sector 1: Dreadshore Review

The last highlight is the new weapon, the Demolition Cannon. Same as the others, you must track down your shots so that you don’t run out of ammo, but the great thing about this one is the explosive shell that blows up enemies into a bloody pulp. There is also one Nautilus suit cosmetic, a Demolition Cannon cosmetic, and decorative additions to place in your outpost, fitting with the expansion’s theme.

Even if this doesn’t sound like enough to tempt you – and it should if you’re a fan of Meet Your Maker – you have a sweet deal coming, as everyone owning the base game can grab the Sector 1 Arsenal Pack for free until July 10.

Hauntingly Addictive

Meet Your Maker Sector 1: Dreadshore Review

Meet Your Maker is one of the most creative games of recent years, and a chilling experience that somehow could do with more and more content – more traps, mods, guards, any other options that shake the foundation of the current layouts and foster creativity in even more twisted ways.

Sector 1: Dreadshore builds upon this long-term goal, and while it’s not a huge expansion, having a new grim environment and a new Custodian are trump cards that add both mechanical variety and cosmetic flair. Meet Your Maker fans should dive into this new landscape without reservations, hoping that this is the first of many for a unique game.

Score: 8/10

Pros:

  • New environment looks great, quite the contrast with the desert area
  • New Custodian changes the game by focusing on defensive skills
  • You can get the arsenal pack free for a limited time

Cons:

  • A step in the right direction, but could feature even more content

PlayStation CEO Confirms They Worked With Activision on PS5 Haptics Development, Not Possible With Acquisition

More information on various video game companies and studios was unveiled during today’s hearing for the FTC v. Microsoft case. Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, revealed quite a bit of information today during said hearing, with one of his statements claiming that Activision had actually helped work on the PS5 controller’s haptics development.

Ryan stated during the hearing that Xbox’s popularity in the West is due to online multiplayer and shooter games finding success in the region, especially in the US. He also mentioned that Sony originally expected The Elder Scrolls 6 (which won’t come out for at least five years) and Starfield to be made available on PlayStation, though this changed following the ZeniMax acquisition.

Of the various statements that Ryan made during the hearing, two stood out. For one, the CEO revealed that Activision had actually worked on the PS5’s DualSense controllers’ haptic feedback, and that such a collaboration is only made possible when developers are not owned by a competitor. Ryan also mentioned an email that Xbox head Phil Spencer had sent to him in August last year, which apparently “set off alarm bells” on Xbox’s actions following the approval of the ABK acquisition had it gone through.

Ryan was apparently dissatisfied with Spencer and his lack of commitment, citing Overwatch 2 not being on the list of games that Xbox would keep on PlayStation. And while he didn’t believe that Starfield’s and Redfall’s exclusivity wasn’t “anti-competitive,” he did believe that Microsoft would use Call of Duty to “damage” PlayStation somehow.

Interestingly enough, Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick had actually approached Ryan earlier this year in February in order to make a deal for Call of Duty and other games to stay on the PlayStati platform, though Ryan told Kotick that he preferred if the regulators did their job instead to block the deal entirely. Ryan closed his testimony during the hearing by stating that video game publishers don’t like the Xbox Game Pass due to its “destructive” value.

What do you think of Jim Ryan’s statements? Let us know in the comments below!

Thanks, CharlieINTEL!

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan Doesn’t Like Starfield Being Xbox Exclusive But Thinks It’s Not Anti-Competitive

SIE CEO Jim Ryan was present as a witness (via video) during today’s FTC v Microsoft hearing for the Preliminary Injunction (PI) against the Activision Blizzard deal.

During his testimony, PlayStation CEO, Jim Ryan revealed that he believes multiplayer and shooter games are more popular in the US compared to the rest of the world, and Xbox is popular in the US as it offers more multiplayer and shooter titles. He also revealed that he “doesn’t like” Starfield and Redfall as exclusives but “does not think they are anti-competitive.

Find the full statement with questions below:

Question: Are Xbox’s consoles more popular in the US than outside of the US?

Jim Ryan: Generally, yes. The majority of their games, many of their games, involve an element of shooting and online multiplayer. Both of which typically are more popular in the US than they are outside of US.

Question: Are shooting games more popular in US than Europe?

Jim Ryan: Typically, yes.

Question: You don’t have any issues with Redfall or Starfield being exclusive?

Jim Ryan: I don’t like it but it’s not anti-competitive.

He also adds that Sony expected Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, and other Bethesda titles to be available on PlayStation, but found out that they wouldn’t be after the merger closed.

This explains why Sony is skeptical about the merger, as Microsoft would end up owning the biggest multiplayer shooter franchise of all time. Ryan also revealed last week that Sony would not disclose future consoles information to Activision if the merger completes.

Recently, it was revealed that Xbox Game Studios’ head Matt Booty suggested (in a 2019 email to Xbox CFO) that Microsoft was in a unique position to “spend Sony out of business.” Bethesda’s head of publishing (in 2022) also expressed his “confusion” about Call of Duty being multiplatform while Microsoft told them that Bethesda’s game will be exclusive to Xbox platforms.

Expect more updates from MP1st regarding the hearing until it finishes later this week.

Thanks, DeekeTweak

Balance Changes

Developer’s Note: We’re continuing our efforts to make all Class builds feel fun and powerful with another round of balance updates. In particular, we have seen community feedback stating that Basic Skills aren’t impactful enough in combat. These changes will not change the fundamental relationship between Basic Skills and Core Skills, but we hope that they help smooth out the leveling experience while we explore additional ways to strengthen them. We are also increasing the power of some Skills that players feel are lagging behind their peers. As we look forward to future updates, we’re monitoring other heavily discussed topics, such as Minion survivability and build parity. Please keep sending us your feedback, and we’ll see you in Sanctuary!

  • Fixed an issue where players could not access the Commendations screen after finishing a Deep Dive activity.

FISHING

  • Fixed an issue where the new Exotic fish Whispering Mothcarp could not be obtained.

Gameplay and Investment

ARMOR

  • Updated the Cenotaph Mask description to correctly state its perk behavior. The description has been updated to the following:
  • Steadily reloads a portion of your equipped Trace Rifle’s magazine from reserves. Damaging a vehicle, boss, or Champion with a Trace Rifle marks them as the target. When an ally defeats the marked target, Special ammo is generated for you and Heavy ammo for your allies.
  • Fixed an issue where the rebound wave from Khepri’s Horn was not dealing damage to enemies already damaged by the first wave.
  • Fixed an issue where the Couturier Longcoat ornament would show a hole underneath the right arm.
  • If the issue persists, Warlocks are advised to contact their local Tower tailor.

WEAPONS

  • Fixed an issue where both Sweet Business and Telesto explosions could damage enemies through walls or other geometry.
  • Sweet Business has been warned not to follow Telesto’s path.
  • Fixed an issue where Hollow Denial’s sound effects could trigger sensitivity episodes for players with Semicircular Canal Dehiscence (SSCD).
  • Fixed an issue where unlocking the pattern for the Bump in the Night required a Season 17 entitlement to unlock.

VENDORS

  • Fixed an issue where the Eververse tab would experience slowdowns in PC.
  • Fixed an issue where Red War Exotic focusing could award incorrect Exotics.

General

LOCALIZATION

Chinese

  • Fixed an issue where audio would not play during a Forsaken cinematic.
  • Fixed an issue where a few subtitles did not correspond to the audio.

That’s about it for this patch. Once a new one is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.
