The Callisto Protocol DLC “Contagion Bundle” DLC Out This March 14

Striking Distance has announced the first The Callisto Protocol DLC titled the “Contagion Bundle,” and it’s set for release this March 14.

Announced on Twitter, the bundle will include a new “Contagion Mode,” alongside cosmetics in the form of character skins and death animations.

Chances are, this DLC will be released alongside a title update to the main game. If that happens, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

If you haven’t played the horror game yet, go read our review here, where we state, “The Callisto Protocol is a good first shot at terrifying you in space. While not as scary as Dead Space, and lacking the same kind of satisfying combat, there is still fun to be had amidst the sometimes enragingly-unfair fights and odd story pacing.”

KFC Giving Away Diablo 4 Beta Access Codes With Purchase of Double Down Sandwich

Colonel Sanders comes to the rescue once again! For those who don’t feel like pre-ordering the game to gain access to the first open beta set for next week, KFC is giving away Diablo 4 beta access codes to those who order the legendary Double Down sandwich through the KFC app or on the website.

Diablo 4’s open beta is set to begin this month with two phases, the first of which will run from March 17 next week through March 19. Only those who pre-ordered the game were set to receive access to the first phase; that is, until KFC kicked off its new promotional campaign with Blizzard that gives all those who order a Double Down sandwich an access code for the first phase until supplies last. For now, the offer appears to be limited to U.S. audiences.

The offer runs from March 8 through March 18, so those eager to head into the Diablo 4 open beta should probably change their plans for dinner tonight before stock runs out. For those who miss it, there’s always the second phase of the open beta from March 24 – 26, which will be freely available to all those eager to test out Diablo 4 before its launch on June 6.

Report: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Delayed to Later in 2023 Following Poor Reception at State of Play

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has reportedly been delayed from its May 26 release date to “later in 2023.” According to the report, the delay comes after Rocksteady Studios’ showcase of the title’s gameplay at the PlayStation State of Play event last month “received negative criticism from fans” due to the online-only requirement and microtransaction system that was revealed during the event.

The report comes from reliable Jason Schreier who says the delay confirmation comes from a person “with direct knowledge of the matter.”

The London-based game developer revealed extensive gameplay footage from its Arkham follow-up Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at PlayStation’s latest State of Play event last month. A FAQ released at the same time revealed that the game would require players to have a persistent online connection during gameplay, and would feature both cosmetic purchases and a cosmetics-only battle pass in line with most live service games.

That move seems to have greatly soured fans’ sentiments towards the long-awaited Arkham successor, so much so that Rocksteady Studios has now reportedly decided to delay the game from its May 26 release date to an unspecified “later in 2023” launch window. It is not yet apparent what the developer plans to change or adjust within the game to cater to the community, but the delay is a heavy blow regardless for a game so close to release that has already been delayed previously.

We gather, this is one rumor that seems like the real deal. Once WB sends an official confirmation, we’ll update the article.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Story Trailer Showcases Gollum’s Perilous Journey

At the Nacon Connect event today, Daedalic Entertainment has finally revealed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s story trailer, featuring the titular mutated Hobbit as he flees intense prosecution from both sides of the conflict over the One Ring. The trailer features famous characters from Middle-earth and beyond, including Ringwraiths and a particularly angry Gandalf as he interrogates a frightened Gollum.

Watch The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s story trailer below:

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum features an original story set in Middle-earth, following Gollum (and Smeagol) as he embarks on a journey across the continent in search of his “Precious.” From the game’s Steam page:

Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings™.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.

While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum™ you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself – or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

The decisions you make and the way you play have a direct influence on Gollum’s personality: Always struggling between the two sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, two egos – you decide!

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum still has no definite release date, but is set for a launch at some point later in 2023. The game will shoot out for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Stay tuned here at MP1st for further updates about the game, as well as our coverage of today’s Nacon Connect event.

Remnant 2 Gunslinger Archetype Gameplay, Skills & Perks Detailed in New Video

Gunfire Games has revealed the upcoming Remnant 2’s Gunslinger Archetype in a new gameplay video, along with an overview of its unique strengths, Perks, Skills, and more. The Gunslinger Archetype is designed for gunplay enthusiasts, and lets players maximize their gunfire DPS with high fire rates, short reload times, improved weapon handling, and numerous other gameplay benefits.

Watch the Remnant 2 Gunslinger Archetype reveal trailer below:

As part of the expanded Archetype system in the Remnant: From the Ashes sequel, the Gunslinger Archetype in Remnant 2 facilitates effective gun combat with high fire rates, quick reloads and weapon swaps, and constant ammo generation. Further, the Gunslinger’s Prime Perk “Loaded” instantly reloads both weapons when a Gunslinger Skill is activated, and all weapons gain infinite reserve ammo for a 15-second duration.

The Gunslinger Archetype has three skills: Quick Draw, Sidewinder, and Bulletstorm. These skills each provide unique offensive bonuses as follows:

  • Quick Draw lets players pull out a revolver with six shots that can either auto-target and fire at enemies, or can alternatively be manually controlled by holding and releasing the skill button.
  • Sidewinder improves ADS movement speed as well as weapon draw and swap speeds by 50%. During Sidewinder’s duration, cycling weapons automatically reloads the firearm that is being cycled to.
  • Bulletstorm makes traditional firearms fully automatic, grants increased projectile speed and critical strike chance to bows and crossbows, and significantly improves fire rate and reload speed while it is active.

The Gunslinger Archetype’s kit is rounded out by the “Ammo Reserves” Archetype Trait, which progressively increases the player’s total ammo capacity through the trait’s 10 levels.

Remnant 2 is “coming soon” to PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

New Wild Hearts Update to Arrive in March and April, Will Include New Kemono and Possible Performance Fixes

Following Wild Hearts’ rocky start, the monster-hunting game is set to introduce free content updates in the coming months, with some arriving as early as this month. Players can expect the Wild Hearts updates to roll out on March 10 and March 23, as well as even more content to come in April.

Update (March 10): For those seeing this, the patch is live! Read on here for more details about it.

The official Wild Hearts Twitter account revealed what’s to come in the following weeks, with March content including a “Deeply Volatile Kemono” set and the Hellfire Laharback on the 10th.

Following the Hellfire Laharback, a new wolf subspecies called the “Grimstalker” will also come later this month. April will then introduce a new kemono and karakuri. The new monsters will come with new weapon models and armor models, and more information on the updates is set to arrive “soon.”

When asked about a possible performance patch, the Twitter account stated that the next update will come with “some fixes,” with more information coming on Friday.

Wild Hearts is Omega Force’s attempt at a monster-hunting title, and while it isn’t as polished as Capcom’s iconic Monster Hunter games, the potential is definitely there. You can check out our review of the game here. We gave the game a solid 8/10, with the game’s major drawbacks rooted in performance issues. Here’s an excerpt: “The game is, in a word, solid, save for its glaring performance woes. It may very well be the “start of a saga” that Koei Tecmo hopes it to be, though we’ll have to see how well they handle the game’s post-launch support. Until then, Wild Hearts stands as the best title we currently have as competition in the monster-hunting subgenre, and a pretty good one at that.”

Microsoft Claims They Can Make Warzone and Modern Warfare 2 Running Natively on Nintendo Switch

In a recent response document by Microsoft that is now publicly available, the company addressed concerns over the performance of Call of Duty titles on the Nintendo Switch. This comes after a recent statement by Xbox CEO Phil Spencer, who stated the company’s goal to bring Call of Duty to “all platforms.”

It’s worth noting that Microsoft’s wording on Call of Duty being available on the Nintendo Switch means it’s the native version, and not one playable via the cloud. “Following the Merger, Microsoft will develop and publish future native console versions of CoD titles for Nintendo platforms for at least 10 years,” Microsoft stated.

The document claimed that Call of Duty’s free-to-play title, Warzone, runs on a “mature” game engine that’s also optimized for “a wide range of hardware devices.”

CoD includes both the free-to-play title Warzone and buy-to-play releases. The game engine that powers Warzone is mature and has been optimized to run on a wide range of hardware devices (ranging from the Xbox One console released in 2015 up to the Xbox Series X). Warzone supports PC hardware with GPU cards that were released as far back as 2015 (i.e., prior to the release of Nintendo Switch in 2017).

The claim is followed up by examples of console games that run well enough on the Nintendo Switch already, including Apex Legends, DOOM Eternal, Fortnite, and Crysis 3. Apex Legends and Fortnite are both worthy mentions given the fact that they share the battle royale format with Warzone. Here’s the full statement:

The Activision development team have a long history of optimizing game performance for available hardware capabilities. The Parties are confident that in addition to Warzone, CoD buy-to-play titles (e.g., CoD: Modern Warfare 2) can be optimised to run on the Nintendo Switch in a timely manner using standard techniques which have been used to bring games such as Apex Legends, DOOM Eternal, Fortnite and Crysis 3 to the Switch.

For those not up to date on the ongoing drama regarding the Microsoft-Activision acquisition, check out the latest report here, and see what Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has to say about Sony’s “sabotage” here.
