Destiny – New Crucible Rules Now In Effect, Iron Banner Returns Mid-December

Exciting changes to Destiny‘s PvP experience are afoot.

In preparation for the upcoming expansion, The Dark Below, Bungie has made a few necessary changes to the way the Crucible work, some of which are currently in effect.

For starters, the studio has now implemented what they are calling “Slaughter Rules”, the intention being that mismatched players that differ severely in skill level will have a better time in the Crucible over all. Here’s what’s new:

Slaughter Rules

  • In the event of a massacre, all parties are returned to orbit at the conclusion of the match
  • Team-based playlists
    • If one team is grossly under-performing, the session is dissolved in favor of matchmaking
  • Rumble playlist
    • If three or more players are grossly under-performing, the session is dissolved in favor of matchmaking

As for what’s coming, players will notice some tweaks to both Public and Premium (new) playlists that will take effect once The Dark Below DLC hits on December 9. Here’s what to expect:

Public Playlists
  • Limited-time playlists (Salvage and Combined Arms) will be available to all players
  • Bastion and First Light have moved out of Control and Clash to Combined Arms
Premium Playlists
  • New Playlists will let you play new content right away
  • Playlists will require The Dark Below to enter
  • Each week, we’ll have two additional Premium Playlists
    • Week One will be Clash and Rumble on new maps
    • Rotators will change each week
    • New experimental modes to be included!

Additionally, competitive Guardians can once again look forward to the return of Lord Saladin and his Iron Banner on December 16. The Dark Below DLC will not be required to enter, but players will be able to earn Level 31 gear by winning matches. Here are some of the notes from the latest Bungie Weekly Update:

Iron Banner!
  • Lord Saladin returns to the Tower on December 16th
  • He’ll reset Event Standings – like a new season
  • Level 31 inventory can be earned by winners
  • The Dark Below will not be required to compete

If you missed out on the previous Iron Banner, here are all the changes that have been made that will carry over to this event.

Last, but not least, Bungie has also addressed a few of the bugs that were introduced in Destiny’s last big update that have been affecting the game as a whole. Here’s what’s being fixed soon.

Upcoming Fixes

  • Pocket Infinity
    • Charges too quickly after the first shot
    • Fix in progress, to be released in a future update
  • Daily Event Reward Packages
    • No longer delivered by the Postmaster after a Public Event
    • Will be fixed automatically in The Dark Below update
    • All players will receive the fix when Expansion I goes live

Bungie notes that these are just the items that were made apparent in the game’s last update. Other fixes are still “being prepped and giftwrapped” for future updates.

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below will land on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on December 9. The new Raid, Crota’s End, will open at 1AM Pacific Time and will not include any prerequisites in order to enter, so you and your Fireteam can have at it right away.

What do you think of the new changes to Destiny’s PvP? Looking forward to the return of Iron Banner once again?

Latest Halo: MCC Update Contains Several ‘High-Priority’ Matchmaking Improvements

A new Halo: The Master Chief Collection game update containing several ‘high-priority improvements’ is now available on Xbox One.

Today’s update is primarily focused on matchmaking, which has yet to improve to a satisfactory level for many users. More updates are still in store that will contain fixes for team balancing and other improvements. “Please note that while this update will improve team balance issues, we do not expect it to fully resolve uneven teams,” wrote 343 Industries in its latest blog update. “Our next content update, targeted for early next week, will address team balance.”

For now, here’s what’s in today’s patch:

Halo: The Master Chief Collection December 3 Update

  • Made a change to allow for matches to start once minimum player counts are met, allowing for faster matching times.
  • Made an update to resolve issues that caused false matches to be created, which resulted in a variety of matchmaking issues, including slow matchmaking and bad session starts.
  • Streamlined the process for maintaining party continuity through the matchmaking process.
  • Made an update to the high-level matchmaking flow that will reset lobbies after each match. Moving forward, players and party leaders need to press “B” after the post-game-carnage report, and select a playlist for their next match. This flow is consistent with previous Halo titles.
  • Improved user experience through removal of non-actionable error messages. This will allow for a more seamless matchmaking flow with less interruption and confusion.
  • Improved the post-game experience to fix an issue that could result in a player getting sent to another player’s lobby, rather than returning to the matchmaking screen.

Notice any improvements? Let us know in the comments.

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below – What’s New With Strikes, Raids, and PvP?

Along with a number of tweaks and improvements to Destiny’s loot and upgrade system, which were detailed earlier, the game’s first expansion, The Dark Below, will also be making a few changes to the way activities like Strikes, Raids, and the Crucible work.

As mentioned earlier, The Dark Below will offer Guardians new things to do with the introduction of one new Strike (two for PlayStation owners), one new Raid, and three new Crucible maps, on top of a number of new Story Missions. Bungie has now outlined a few of the other differences in these activities that you can expect once the new DLC launches next Tuesday, December 9.

Here’s the summary.

Strikes

Due to the Light Level cap increase to 32 and the addition of newer, more powerful weapons and armor, players will now be able to tackle both Heroic and Nightfall Strikes at level 30.

Raids

Though the new Raid, Crota’s End, will unlock on December 9, hard mode will only be available at a later date in January. Players at Light Level 30 can lead a Fireteam into the new Raid immediately upon release. As mentioned earlier, a number of changes have been made to the new Raid’s loot system, including a higher rate for Raid loot drops.

Crucible

The Dark Below will introduce two new exclusive competitive playlists while the three new maps (Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron) will be featured in their own map rotation. Playlists found in The Director will change on a weekly basis, including 6-player and 12-player game modes. Map rotation will also alternate between focusing on new maps only and on including original maps.

If you missed it, you can catch Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below’s official trailer right here.

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below – What’s New With Exotic, Legendary, and Raid Items?

In The Dark Below, Destiny’s first PvE and PvP expansion pack, developer Bungie will be making a few very notable changes to the way powerful items are acquired and upgraded during your adventures.

As GameInformer discovered, there’ll be entirely new ways to upgrade both previously existing items and new items that are being introduced in the expansion. There have also been some improvements made to the loot system in the new Crota’s End Raid based off of feedback from the previous Raid, the Vault of Glass.

We’ve summarized what’s new below.

Exotic Gear

Older Exotic gear can now be upgraded in order to keep them competitive with some of the new more powerful Exotic items being introduced in The Dark Below DLC. This can be done by visiting the vendor Xur on the weekends, who will require the item, an Exotic Shard, and a hefty does of cash to make the transformation. With those requirements, you’ll receive a new version of the same item but with a higher maximum damage or defense. Item upgrade progress will be reset in addition.

Xur will possess a different selection of upgrades each week.

Legendary Gear

You’ll be able to purchase new DLC Legendary gear from vendors, like before, but each will require a Vanguard or Crucible Commendation in addition to Reputation and Marks. Commendations are rewarded when a new Reputation level is earned and arrives via the Postmaster.

These new upgraded items will be available to all players with or without the DLC.

Raid Gear

Now, Ascendant materials (shards and energy) will only be used to upgrade regular Legendary items. Legendary items acquired during Crota’s End Raid will need to be upgraded using Radiant materials (shards and energy), which can be earned by progressing through the Raid, by breaking down other items from the Raid, or by trading with the new Vendor, Eris Morn.

Raid primary weapons will only be awarded to Guardians in the hard mode version of Crota’s End Raid, available later in January.

Raid Loot

Loot drops from Crota’s End have been refined from the previous system used in the Vault of Glass. The game will pay closer attention to the items you already own and how long it’s been since you’ve earned a “fun” drop. Overall, expect more consistent rewards and items with a wider variety of potential perks.

What are your thoughts on the new loot and upgrade systems? Are you getting ready to upgrade your Guardian to Light Level 32?

Destiny Expansion I: The Dark Below launches on all platforms December 9.

The Story Of Evolve Teased In New Trailer, Get The Details On New Hunters, Maps, and Game Mode

It’s story time with Turtle Rock Studios and 2K Game’s latest gameplay trailer for their 4v1 shooter, Evolve.

If you check out their newest video above, you’ll get some context to the struggle between Hunter and Monster on a remote colony set on an alien and unfamiliar world. Clearly Evolve is all about its epic asymmetrical multiplayer battles, but it appears that there’ll be at least some story elements to dive into when the game releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC this February 10.

Last month, IGN spent some time with Evolve developers to find out what there is to know about some of the game’s new characters and locations. We’ve rounded up details on the new Hunters and Maps below, including a brand new game mode called Nest, so you can catch up on anything you might have missed.

In addition, we also learned that any map expansions for Evolve will be free for all users, so players won’t ever be kicked out of matchmaking and Evolve’s community will never be required to split up. New DLC characters will cost you some cash, however, but both vanilla and DLC characters can still play together on the same map, even if a party member doesn’t own any DLC. Anyone who pre-orders the game will get the Monster Expansion Pack free of charge.

Xbox Live Rewards Members Get $15 Rebate With Halo: MCC In December, Early Adopters Upset

Members of the Xbox Live Rewards program learned today that for the rest of this month, a 15,000 Rewards Credit will be awarded to new buyers of $59.99 USD worth of Halo games, add-ons, and videos on the Xbox Store, including the recently released Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The program is also offering the same amount of credits, which translates to $15 USD in your Microsoft account, for any pre-orders on games “that ship this holiday season,” along with free shipping.

While the deal might benefit new buyers who held off on picking up The Master Chief Collection after catching wind of its troubled launch, the news clearly doesn’t sit well with early adopters who were met with busted online matchmaking services and a handful of bugs and glitches after paying full price for the game in November.

343 Industries Studio Head Bonnie Ross made it clear that the company has plans to ‘take care of all owners’ and ‘make it right’ with fans who were feeling let down with the game’s launch, but we’ve yet to hear exactly what that might entail. While we wait for news, reports are coming in that there are still ways early buyers can take advantage of the new Xbox Live Rewards offer or at least receive some form of compensation.

On Reddit, a couple of users were offered a full refund on The Master Chief Collection after explaining their intent to repurchase the game while taking advantage of the rebate. Other users were offered three months of Xbox Live Gold after expressing their disappointment. Here are some excerpts:

I just explained that I wanted to take advantage of the 15,000 points and wanted the refund for the purpose to repurchase and obtain the funds. She gave me the ‘one time only’ spiel but I just consider that jargon. MS takes care of their customers, especially ones who are loyal to the Xbox brand and who have bought +40 titles for their new console.”

“i just contacted MS and spoke to ‘Joan’. She said that we should get the deal if you have the digital copy of MCC. You just have to go post in the xbox rewards support. ‘Please sign in to this link: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/default.aspx and then click on Xbox Rewards Support and you will see the ‘Add a new post’ on the left side of your screen and please click on it to post a message.'”

Can confirm, this is a thing. Seems they’re doing this for all who got it in the month of November. Sales rep told me ‘Okay so unfortunately we cannot offer the rewards points but what I can do for you is offer you 3 months of Xbox Live for the troubles’.”

Others weren’t so lucky, but it might be worth a try if you feel strongly about the situation. It’s also not clear if these users used their once-in-a-life-time-refund for Xbox Live or if was entirely separate. Good luck, if you decide to try!

In the meantime, more updates for Halo: The Master Chief Collection are still in the works while 343 Industries continues to improve the experience.

Exotics Get Powered Up In Destiny’s Latest Update, Changes Made to Material Gathering and VOG Raid, Read The Patch Notes

Gamers waiting to their favorite weapons in Destiny to get some much needed attention will definitely want to check out the latest game update deployed earlier today by developer Bungie.

Primarily, the update is aimed at Exotic Weapon tuning. Specifically, it makes some of Destiny’s most powerful weapons even more powerful, but also offers a better balance scheme overall. Changes have also been made to the way Exotic items are upgraded and how materials used to upgrade those items can be gathered. Both Vanguard and Crucible marks can now be used to purchase planet material, which will also now also be awarded through completing Daily Heroic Mission and Daily Patrol Bounties.

Among a few other changes, fixes were also offered for some of the encounters in Destiny’s Vault of Glass Raid, which raiders will definitely want to check out.

You’ll find the full list of updates below, courtesy of Bungie.

Destiny December 1 Game Update

Weapons

“Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel, and sound overpowered. At the same time, they are not supposed to break the balance of the game. We hope these weapons challenge the way players think about their loadouts. Exotics will be a constant work in-progress!”

General
  • In preparation for the Dark Below, Exotic Armor and Weapons no longer require Ascendant Materials to upgrade
  • The final upgrade node of all Exotic Gear will require an Exotic Shard
  • Exotic Shards can be obtained by one of the following means:

Suros Regime
  • Lowered total damage at the end of the mag on SUROS Regime upgrade to be more in line with the Glass Half Full perk on Legendary Auto Rifles
Monte Carlo
  • Stability increased
  • Range slightly decreased
  • Monte Carlo Method upgrade now also has a chance to fully charge melee ability on kill
MIDA Multi-Tool
  • MIDA rounds now have increased knockback against targets in both PvE and PvP

Vex Mythoclast

  • Base Damage increased, fixing bug we introduced in previous patch
  • Enhanced Battery upgrade by Extended Mag (this change still allows for a significant upgrade to Magazine Size, but less than before)
Invective
  • Reload Speed increased significantly, auto fires slightly slower
Ice Breaker
  • Send It upgrade replaced by Lightweight (which was redundant as Icebreaker already had maximum range)
  • New effects for enemies killed by Ice Breaker upgrade
Patience and Time
  • Snapshot upgrade replaced by Custom Optics (provides a lower zoom option)
Super Good Advice
  • Stability increased
Truth
  • Magazine Size increased to 3 (was 1)

Activities

Raid

  • Fixed an exploit where the Templar could be forced off its platform
Daily Heroic Story
  • Destination Materials now drop from completing the Daily Heroic
Bounties
  • Removed the ‘Relic Hunter’ Bounty

  • Faction Class Items (ex: FWC Cloak, Dead Orbit Mark, etc.) are now replaced by Faction Emblems in the rank-up reward packages from Faction Vendors

Technical

  • Networking fixes, which should reduce the instance of the Bee family of KTOs
  • Fixed an issue in which using Xbox One party chat induced a slower frame rate

Update

Sledgehammer Games has confirmed that Double XP for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has started. Official stop time is this Monday, December 1 at 9AM PDT.

Original Story

According to reports, users are receiving emails detailing a new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare promotion at participating retailers that includes a slashed price along with some other in-game bonuses.

The email reads that recipients will receive up to $20 off the price of Advanced Warfare at participating Best Buy, EB Games (GameStop), Future Shop, and Walmart locations, along with 5 Supply Drops and 10 hours of Double XP that begins upon a user’s first match. The promotion reportedly ends December 31.

Sledgehammer Games or Activision have yet to make an official announcement about the promotion or Double XP Weekend, but multiple users have received the same email, so it’s pretty safe to assume it’s happening.
