Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Update 1.03 Out This Jan. 26 (Update)

Ubisoft Montpellier has released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown update 1.03 (PS5 update version 1.003). Check out the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown January 26 patch notes posted down below.

PCrince of Persia: The Lost Crown Update 1.03 Patch Notes | Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Update 1.003 Patch Notes:

Update: While Ubisoft hasn’t revealed any patch notes, the community has chimed in with some of the changes! We’ve also included the list of issues that have not been fixed by this patch.

  • Kami (the eye in the Catacombs area that lights the way for Sargon) got a new voice (via Xeno_Prime)
  • Moon Gather quest bug fixed (via These_Standard2176)
  • Archer mystery chest bug not fixed

Ubisoft Montpellier has not posted the official patch notes for this update just yet, but details may come later today. Several patches were released earlier this month for bug fixes and gameplay improvements. The official Twitter page did mention about a hotfix this weekend.

You can read what we said about the game in our review.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown may not have had the strongest response from fans upon its initial announcement, but Ubisoft really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one in the end. Coming in at about the 20 to 25-hour mark for a well-explored playthrough felt just about right for this type of game to avoid overstaying its welcome. Taking Prince of Persia and mixing it with the Metroidvania genre was a brilliant move, as the gameplay and abilities from the series mesh very well with this style, and it makes me hope this is only the beginning of this franchise’s foray into this new direction and is not just a one-off experience.

In the meantime, we will update this post as soon as possible when the details of the hotfix are made available to the public.

Horizon Forbidden West PC Release Date Set for March 21

Announced a few months ago, the Horizon Forbidden West PC version has finally been given a release date, with pre-orders now being available.

Travel to the Forbidden West This March on PC

Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software have officially announced that PC gamers can enjoy Aloy’s latest adventure, Horizon Forbidden West, on March 21! The release date announcement is also celebrated with the launch of pre-orders on Steam and Epic Games Store, with both platforms offering some pre-order goodies.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition (PC) Pre-Order Bonus

  • Blacktide Outfit and Blacktide Bow* (available only with pre-purchase)
  • Nora Legacy Outfit and Nora Spear* (available only when linking your Steam account to PlayStation
  • Network)
  • 2 Special Outfits (Carja Behemoth Elite and Nora Thunder Elite)
  • 2 Special Weapons (Carja Behemoth Short Bow and Nora Thunder Sling)
  • In-game Resources Pack including ammunition, potions, and travel packs
  • In-game Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece
  • Exclusive Photo Mode pose and face paint

This is the Complete Edition, which comes with all the DLC, including the Burning Shores expansion.

What New Features Are Available for Horizon Forbidden West on PC?

Seeing that this is coming to PC, you’re probably wondering what new features it comes with to support the platform. Lucky you, PlayStation has also revealed all that, which you can read and watch below.

Horizon Forbidden West PC Features

  • Ultrawide Support –  Ultrawide 21:9 and Super Ultrawide 32:9 resolutions, as well as 48:9 triple monitor support.
  • Upscaling – Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS supports.
  • Direct storage support.
  • Unlocked framerate.
  • Customizable graphics.
  • DualSense support.

Seeing that Horizon Forbidden West is perhaps one of the most graphically demanding games, you may be wondering what kind of PC hardware you’ll need to run this beast. Sadly, the PC requirements for Horizon Forbidden West have yet to be announced, but it should be soon seeing as the release isn’t far off!

With Nixxes Software leading the port, we expect this to play very smoothly on PC. However, even with their level of optimization, assume you’ll need a monster set-up to run everything on Ultra.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition will be arriving on PC on March 21.

Tekken 8 Crashing Issues Begin Surfacing While Playing Online Matches (Update)

Tekken 8 is officially out, and while many are enjoying the latest installment of the series, it seems that not everything is running smoothly for some, as reports of crashing for Tekken 8 have begun flooding in.

Tekken 8 Crashing During Online Matches? You Aren’t Alone.

Update: The official Tekken X account has finally issued a statement concerning the crashes and confirms a fix is in the works.

“We are currently experiencing errors during online matches and spectating in TEKKEN 8 due to a high concentration of users connecting to matching and competition servers. We are actively working on resolving this issue and will update as soon as possible. Thank you!”

Original Story:

If you’re one of the many who purchased Tekken 8 at launch and have been experiencing crashes (UE-Polaris error on PC), you aren’t alone, as several users have taken to Steam and Reddit to report the same issue.

Taken 8 crashing (PS5)
byu/ConstantAd5616 inTekken

From what we can gather, most reports for Tekken 8 seem to occur when players are matchmaking online, regardless of the game mode and connection quality between players. This doesn’t appear to be platform-specific either, as the reports come in from console and PC players.

Tekken’s official X (formerly Twitter) account has not acknowledged any of these issues, nor has Namco Bandai Entertainment.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation and will issue an update should anything new develop. While the studio hasn’t acknowledged the issues, we’re sure they’re aware and likely working on a patch that should hopefully go live soon.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something many reviewers could catch themselves, as the online wasn’t populated enough to try it out, as mentioned in our Tekken 8 review

Tekken 8 Crash Fix? At Least For Steam Deck, Sort of.

Currently, there’s no fix for crashes during online matches for consoles and PCs, but for those playing on the Steam Deck, you may have noticed some additional crashing during bootup and solo play in addition to online play. Luckily, there’s a fix for that and even possibly for online matches, as players have reported that switching to either Proton Hotfix or ProtonGE will fix crashes during cutscenes and such.

To change Proton Build:

  • Select Tekken 8
  • Press the options button over the game.
  • Go to Properties and select compatibility.
  • From there, you should see a drop-down menu with different Proton versions. Select Proton Hotfix or ProtonGE

Some have even found this to fix the online matchmaking crashes that everyone else is experiencing.

So, if you have a Steam Deck handy, you may want to try your luck playing Tekken 8 there. Otherwise, we recommend playing offline for now.

“Yet Another Fantasy Title” Is A Weird Fantasy Medieval Old School GTA Fantasy Game

Ever run into a moment where you didn’t know what you needed until someone put it right before you? Well, that’s precisely the vibe you’ll get from Atomic Wolf’s Yet Another Fantasy Title (YAFT), as their newest trailer is a mash-up of top-down GTA set in medieval times.

A GTA Game Set In A Fantasy Universe? Count Me In!

Alright, to be fair, Atomic Wolf doesn’t describe their game as being GTA-esque, but they do describe it as being a game that parodies fantasy worlds, referencing a whole lot of pop culture in a satirical way. Here, give the trailer a watch and tell me you don’t get GTA or even Fable vibes from this.

Open-world? Classic GTA over-the-top view? Intense horseback riding police chases? Offensive crude humor? And Lord of the Rings?!? Count me in!

The best part is that there’s a playable demo right now on Steam for everyone to try! Go on, try it, I know I will! If you do, let us know what you think! This is definitely one of the more unique takes for a game that we’ve seen lately, and it sure does look fun.

Yet Another Fantasy Title has no release date outside of a target 2024 window.

Demeter Review – Platforming Evolved

Novalab’s newest title, Demeter, will have you platforming from a whole new perspective as they blend virtual reality with your own living space for one incredibly fun mixed reality adventure.

A Story Unfolding In Own Living Room

Imagine, for a second, sitting in your living room, enjoying doing whatever you do, and suddenly, you hear a distress signal. It’s a plea for help as a mysterious individual seemingly veers off course to their homeworld, landing in a land of the unknown. Her name is Atlanta, and she’s on a mission to save her world.

It is a story that many of us are most likely familiar with, but it’s not just her story, as the unknown world she landed in just so happens to be yours, literally.

This is where the tale of Demeter truly begins, as it’s up to you, as in your physical self, to help Atlanta navigate through treacherous environments that have suddenly sprung up in your living room so that she may find her way back home. Her fate and her world rests on your shoulders.

As a Quest exclusive, Demeter does feel like a title that fully utilizes the hardware in a unique and fun way. While available on the Quest 2, the Quest 3 comes with a long list of improvements, the biggest being mixed reality. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy Demeter on the Quest 2 in VR, but for a game entirely built with mixed reality in mind, it does shine with the hardware of the Meta Quest 3.

It’s not some crazy Iron-Man-like experience, mind you, but given the story and how it revolves around how the character ended up in your room and saving her world, it’s fun seeing these interactions play out in your own living space. Atlanta herself will even make gestures and such right at you.

Platformers aren’t the genre that most expect to play in a VR space, let alone mixed reality, but many titles, such as The Book of Moss, Astro Bots, and a few others, have proven that there’s a place for platformers in VR. With Demeter, it takes things up a notch by not so much bringing you into a virtual space but by bringing the virtual space to you. It’s a unique way of gaming in VR, and Demeter plays well with the idea.

Being able to control a character while moving (as in myself) around and gaining new perspectives on a level is such a cool idea. As I climbed what would be considered tree vines, I moved around a corner to see what potential dangers awaited me or what secrets may be lying around. It’s such an added depth of gameplay that only VR could provide.

Now, couple that with playing in your own living space, with the environment and character reacting to your surroundings, including you. It’s insanely awesome, with some gameplay mechanics letting you scale the level the character plays on.

That lets you get all kinds of creative with how you play, such as blowing up the level so you can almost wander around it yourselves (a feature called Inception Portal lets you view levels from Atlanta’s perspective, but not move around) or scaling it down tiny enough to fit a small table.

That, to me, is mind-blowing, giving me a new way to play, almost like an over-the-top view like it’s some board game. All on my coffee table!

It’s a relatively new idea, platformers, VR, and Mixed Reality, but one that Novelab manages to nail down. It works fantastic. I was impressed by how some of the levels would scale down to fit perfectly on some of the furniture I had. The scaling technology and matching to the environment are incredibly good, with little to no clipping into my furniture. That takes work to perfect.

As a platformer, Demeter is also fun and charming. Mind you, it’s not some grand adventure with roughly 4-6 hours of story, but the price tag reflects that enough to know you should expect a smaller experience. Still, it does have a good feel to it and can be pretty challenging with some of the procedurally generated levels that are based on your environment.

You’ll get to control Atlanta yourself, moving around, jumping, climbing, and even some combat that is very in line with classic platformers. Then there’s you. I’ve already mentioned how you can move around and gain different perspectives of levels, but you’ll also have other tools to get you a little more involved with Atlanta’s journey.

These range from moving platforms to using powers to reveal new pathways. It’s not the most complex form of gameplay, but considering everything else that goes on during mixed reality, sometimes simplicity is the best way to keep things. That becomes more true later in the game when levels ramp up the challenge, putting you to the test in not just navigating Atlanta but also changing perspectives.

You May Want to Make Room

The one thing you’ll want to know about Demeter is that the game works best when you have a large and clear space to walk around. Demeter does a good job mostly when it comes to scaling to your environment, but I’ve also run into many instances where the level spawned far away from my reach and over some furniture that I wasn’t going to climb on. This is even with boundaries set on Quest 3, as Demeter sometimes spawns levels further than I’d like.

Luckily, you can grab, move, and scale any of the levels to be closer, though there were some instances I found where the grab mechanics were as responsive as I’d like.  That should help those with smaller play spaces, but I’d still recommend you clear the area up, as it’ll make the experience all the better. This is a title that makes heavy use of mixed reality, so the more room you have, the better.

A Mixed Reality Like No Other

Mixed reality was something that I always thought was a gimmick. It’s cool to look at, and great for educational and social applications. But for gaming? Not so much, at least until now, as Novalab proves that the technology works in a way that can enhance the gaming experience.

Demeter is fantastic as a platformer, but its use of technology is truly where it shines, giving us a taste of what mixed reality can be about. It’s challenging when it wants to be, and in those moments, it gives players a new way to solve puzzles, allowing them to view a world from a whole new perspective. I highly recommend Demeter to anyone with a Quest 3, as while it’s short, its unique approach to mixed reality makes for a memorable experience.

Demeter is now available for purchase, exclusively for the Quest.

Score: 8/10

Pros:

  • Perfect use of mixed reality. Proves that games, especially platformers, can benefit hugely from the technology.
  • Accessibility mode gives you control of the in-game environment.
  • Platforming can be fun and challenging but don’t expect it to be super deep.
  • Visually pleasing.

Cons:

  • Light on story
  • Not a coach-friendly game.
  • Distance scaling can be annoying, especially when a level spawns over things you’d need to climb. Accessibility mode fixes that, but still can be annoying.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Launch Times Revealed for Early Access; Deluxe Edition Suits Shown Off

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launch times for early access have been revealed, along with a new trailer showing off the Deluxe Edition exclusive costumes.

When Can I Start Playing Early Access for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

There is good news and bad news for those who plan on playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League when early access drops next week. The good news? All platforms will be able to play on January 30! The bad news? Not every platform gets to play it at the same time. While console players can play as soon as the clock hits midnight locally, PC players on Steam will unfortunately have to wait 10 hours before being able to play. Here’s a breakdown of when you can start playing on each platform,

  • Consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) –  12:00AM Local Time
  • PC (Steam) – 10:00AM Pacific Time

That means that instead of 72 hours of early access, PC players will only get 62 hours of early access when compared to other platforms. No reason why it was launching later in the day for PC owners was given, though if we were to guess, it might have to do with preventing early spoilers and data mining. Not that this will prevent it entirely, but the first 10 hours will be safe, at least for players to play themselves.

Task Force X Suits Up With Justice League-Inspired Costumes

In more related Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a new trailer is now available, showing off all the extra content you get for buying the Deluxe Editon. This includes the Justice League skins that give members of the Suicide Squad their own Justice League outfit. They look pretty awesome too!

Here’s what you get in the Deluxe Edition:

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Deluxe Edition ($99.99 SRP)

  • PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions available for pre-order physically and digitally; PC version available digitally (Steam and Epic Game Store)
  • All Standard Edition content and pre-order bonuses
  • Four Justice League Outfits, one for each Squad member
  • Three Black Mask themed notorious weapons (pistol, sniper rifle, and heavy weapon)
  • Four Squad Golds themed weapon dolls, one for each Squad member
  • One premium battle pass token
  • Four No Shade Outfit color swatches, one variant for each Squad member (digital versions only)
  • Up to 72-hour early access to the game, prior to the main launch on February 2 (pre-order bonus)

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launches on January 30 for early-access players, and it will be available worldwide on February 2.

Report: Until Dawn Pulled From Certain PSN Regions Amid Rumors of a PS5/PC Version Re-Release (Update)

Just the other day, a rumor has surfaced stating that Sony is set to re-release Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn to the PS5 and PC. While nothing has been announced so far by Sony, it seems the latest development on the PlayStation Store adds fuel to the fire.

In some PSN Store regions (Australia, Germany, UK), the game is no longer available for purchase. Players will still see the game’s product page, but it will have a “Not available for purchase” marking on it.

For now, the game is available on the US PSN Store, though we’re not sure how long it’ll be up. If Sony is indeed pulling it from digital storefronts, this might very well be for an impending announcement.

For those unaware, Until Dawn was released back in 2015, and was an interactive horror game made by Supermassive Games and was published by Sony. It scored well critically and was a commercial success too, which also lead to Supermassive’s The Dark Pictures Anthology series that’s still on-going now.

Until Dawn Coming to PS5 and PC? Rumors Seem to Suggest

While Sony hasn’t alluded to or announced anything, the rumor does come from a very reliable leaker, which leads us to believe an announcement is incoming very, very soon. Add in this latest development, and this seems like Sony pulling the game, so it can re-release it in a newer packaging and price.

What’s odd though that the PS4 version is being pulled, a version that should sitll exist even after the PS5 and PC version is released. Our guess is they may be repackaging it as a new edition for the PS4, almost like a greatest hit type of release, even though that exists already. Or perhaps it’s to make way for a bundle of sort

Thanks, Wario!

Update: It seems that Until Dawn being unavailable in some regions isn’t new. This was relayed by the person who mentioned that the game is getting PS5 and PC versions, billbil_kun,

To cut a long story short, the PS4 version isn’t being pulled, and in some regions, it can only be bought on the console itself.

The Callisto Protocol Developer Striking Distance’s New Game Confirmed via Job Listing

The Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance’s next game has just been confirmed by a job opening posted by the company itself. The description included within a posting for a Lead Gameplay Animator role confirms that Striking Distance Studios are hard at work on another title and looking for help.

The job posting in question contains a section called “What we are looking for,” and it reads as follows:

Striking Distance Studios is looking for a Lead Gameplay Animator to help us create the most dynamic and engaging player and enemy experiences for a brand new, unannounced UE5 title. The Lead Gameplay Animator’s main responsibilities are to plan, organize, supervise and inspire the work of his/her team.

The part to pay attention to here is that they’re looking for assistance on a “brand new, unannounced Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) title.” It’s not much to go on, but it confirms that the team is getting to work on their next project. It’s unclear whether or not production on the game has begun.

Striking Distance Studios’ last game, The Callisto Protocol, received very middling reviews upon its release. While many were impressed by the game’s graphical fidelity, its gameplay and story ultimately fell short of expectations. Our own reviewer gave the game a 7/10 and said that lackluster combat and an absence of true horror kept the game from being great. That being said, the team at Striking Distance had some unique ideas, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they’ll make with the lessons they’ve learned from their last project.

Will Striking Distance’s New Game Be a Sequel to The Callisto Protocol?

It’s currently unclear if the team’s next title will have any connection to The Callisto Protocol or its universe. Former Studio Head Glen Schofield expressed interest in exploring more of that game’s setting when we interviewed him in June of last year, but he has since left the company. Current CEO Steve Papoutsis might not be so keen on diving deeper into Jupiter and its moons.

We currently have no window on when an official announcement might happen. To make sure you see it when it pops, stay tuned in to us here at MP1st.

For those unaware, players have reported issues while playing online matches in Mortal Kombat 1, where an error message would appear saying the game session has desynchronized. No one knows exactly what is causing this issue, but at leats with today’s update, the issue should now be fixed. Assuming we don’t get a repeat of last update where it was supposed to be fixd there.

Once a new patch for MK1 is released, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Don’t forget, story DLC is in the cards, and the game will be supported longer than MK11 according to NetherRealm.

This is alongside our ongoing commitment to ensure Mournstead feels as smooth as ever, with an additional 35+ tweaks and enhancements included in today’s update.

  • Improved the multiplayer experience across all platforms for coop or invasion matchups. The overall experience now has less rubberbanding and should result in smoother gameplay overall.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a fog wall to appear for co-op partner during the introductory cutscene for the Hollow Crow.

Collision

  • Fixed a collision issue that allowed players to skip a part of Lower Calrath by accessing unintended areas near the droppable ladder in the Alehouse.
  • Fixed a collision issue that could cause players to get stuck in an inaccessible area prior to the first Umbral puzzle in Lower Calrath.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented “A Shadow Dispelled” achievement to unlock if the Scarlet Shadow had been defeated with an effect.

Visuals

  • Fixed an issue where textures present on the ground in Penitent Path were missing.

  • Expanded controller support with additional icons for PC.
  • Fixed a very important texture in a cutscene before Track 03.
  • Fixed issue with “No Door Unturned Lvl. 3” and “Challenge S-Ranker Lvl. 3” on the Wall of Fame not being unlocked.
  • Fixed issue with Directional Parry triggering during rhythm parries in the Rhythm Tower.
  • Fixed issue when loading auto-save data during Korsica battle in Track 07, leading to incorrect “Damage Received” in the final result.

  • Fixed issue on PC where some UI button icons are covered by text.

Will Hi-Fi Rush Be Released on PlayStation and Other Consoles?

While nothing has been announced, a new rumor has surfaced this year stating that an “acclaimed” Xbox exclusive is set to go multi-platform this year. Most people (including this guy), thinks this rumor is pointing to Hi-Fi Rush, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it does make its way to PS5 or even the Nintendo Switch.

Exoborne New Story and Gameplay Details Revealed; Devs Looking at “Approachability”

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt developers Sharkmob offer new story and gameplay details for their new extraction shooter, Exoborne.

Issue #394 of Edge magazine has just been released, and it features quite the preview, as the publication recently was shown a behind-closed-door look at Sharkmob’s upcoming extraction shooter, Exoborne. While it sounds like the studio has quite a ways to go before it’s truly ready to be shown off, they did share some new details about the game’s story and some gameplay tidbits in the featured preview. We went ahead and summarized some of the big pieces of details revealed by Edge’s hands-off session.

Exoborne Story and Development Details

  • Rebirth – This is the name given to a European corporation that promises a “better tomorrow.” They promise the world.
  • Rebirth was the original name of Exoborne, but it moved away from it after the team saw the potential legal battle over the name.
  • Set in Colton County, USA.
  • Location lets the team play around with pop culture and movies, with geography being ideal due to its diversity, natural and sociological.
  • Sharkmob also feels comfortable with this location since they grew up on American pop culture.
  • Since the weather is a big thing, you can expect oil rigs and boats and such in locations where they would not have been due to storms picking them up.
  • “The world is not dying, humanity is.” is what the team says about the story.
  • There’s a campaign, but Sharkmob is more interesting in the stories that players create. It’s all about your own journey.
  • Exo-skeletons are known as Exo-rigs, with the wearers being nicknamed “Reborn,” which plays into the title.
  • Exo-rigs will provide all kinds of playstyles, with the team wanting them to provide synergy between teammates.
  • One example was a defensive build that allows players to play aggressively, attacking from the front while shielding teammates.
  • Movement and traversal will be important parts of upgrading Exo-rigs. The grappling hook was one example.
  • An event called the “Collapse” is mentioned as a reason why Rebirth exists. The company was supposed to turn things around and be the answer to the climate crisis.
  • As with all corporations in games, things don’t go as they plan, and it sounds like the corporation became corrupted from within.
  • This unleashed chaos around the world, killing billions. The climate became uncontrollable, with the alpha survivors, the Reborn, surviving it.
  • The climate/weather is described as the worst form of it, compared to The Day After Tomorrow film, where all forms of changes can occur at once.
  • Most of the story is unpacked outside sorties in a home hub with an NPC you can talk to.
  • Cutscenes will be available in this hub.
  • Audio logs, text, footage, photos, and such will be used to help tell the story, but the community will need to piece it together.
  • It sounds like it has a very souls-game approach, with Sharkmob even saying they want the environment to tell a story.
  • Themes revolve around working together and exploring humanity’s destructive side. There’s a fascination with how we, as humans, can invent “cool shit” and somehow find ways to kill each other with said “cool shit.”
  • Many of the rigs are repurposed construction rigs. Perhaps a hint that there may be more than just shooting?
  • Over 300 people are working on Exoborne, which includes the entire Bloodhunt team and new hires.

Exoborne Gameplay Details

  • Extraction-based shooter.
  • Sharkmob has yet to finalize the maximum number of players but says quantity will vary on the size of maps.
  • The game is being built around extreme weather, where the team expects it to make sessions unique and even ruin sessions. They want players to adapt.
  • Confirmed events are storms and hurricanes, but Sharkmob hopes for more.
  • A system governs the aggressive events, but timing and placements will vary.
  • It’s not so much to survive them but to master them. The example provided was two teams fighting it out, one player a sniper and the other using a shotgun. A disadvantage is when there’s a huge gap for the shotgun player, but if an event comes in, the shotgun player can use it to close the gap.
  • Midair fights are possible, with a hurricane picking players up and having them battle it out in the air as a described scenario.
  • The team also wants to put a big focus on verticality.
  • Grappling wire, climbing gear, and parachutes are confirmed gadgets.
  • Tech-wise, the team is aware of the limitation that comes from being a multiplayer game instead of a single-player since added players limit physical calculations.
  • Despite that, Sharkmob sounds determined to go all out with the weather, even if, at times, it doesn’t make sense. That’s because they found those to be fun and noted that instances where players can be thrown across the map can happen. They want to create moments so messed up that you can’t help but laugh at them.
  • User-created characters in the rig are merely human. No leveling. This is an extraction shooter, so gear is king.
  • “You are what you carry.” If you want better gear, you have to find it.
  • Equipment does improve, though.
  • Some rigs are built to harness the effects of storms. No specifics were provided.
  • Crafting parts, schematics, and end-of-mission rewards are confirmed.
  • There’s PvE, but at its core, Exoborne is PvP.
  • High stakes remain essential, but with past work on games such as The Division, the team is looking at approachability.
  • One way they do this is with solo play, so you aren’t running into big battles.
  • Mission types: Solo, team missions, and public events.
  • Another way mentioned is that dying in Exoborne has less punishment than in other extraction games. There’s a roguelike progression for various unlocks.
  • The goal is not to make people cry when playing this game.
  • That’s one of the reasons why they’ve decided to make an extraction shooter in a crowded market because they believe they haven’t become mainstream like other genres, and approachability is one of the reasons why.
  • The narrative also plays heavily into approachability. The team won’t take control away from players or throw up things to block your screen. Mission givers won’t interrupt you during tense moments.
  • “Thrive together, or die alone” is a general game theme that bleeds into the gameplay.
  • Things in common with other extraction shooters – Selecting an effective loadout, scavenging, surviving, potentially risking it all, and hoping you can extract out alive.
  • Sharkmob believes there’s an opportunity to be the best in the genre.

Based on the information, it seems that Sharkmob has a clear vision, and as someone who isn’t too big on the extraction shooter genre for the very reason they mentioned, I’m excited that approachability is a priority for the team to solve.

Exoborne currently has no release date or target window.

Destiny 2 and 1 Down for Maintenance This January 25 (Update)

While Destiny 2’s servers went down earlier this week for maintenance, it seems more work is needed, as Bungie has pulled the Destiny 2 and Destiny 1 servers down for another round of it. Read on for what to expect from this downtime this January 25.

Destiny 2 and 1 Down for Maintenance Schedule This Jan. 25:

Update: Maintenance is now over!

Here’s the announcement from Bungie:

❖ Player Removal: 8:45 AM PST/11:45 AM EST/12:45 AM HKT
❖ Expected log in: 11:00 AM PST/2 PM EST/3 AM HKT
❖ Expected end: 11:00 AM PST/2 PM EST/3 AM HKT

Convert to your timezone here

Should We Expect a Patch to Drop During the Maintenance Period?

Given we just got an update a few days ago, I wouldn’t expect a patch to be released. That said, there is a chance one might drop, since it’s not unheard of for Bungie to release a surprise update. If one is indeed released, we expect it to be more for security and stability than actual gameplay adjusments.

Microsoft Layoffs Hit 8% of Workforce, Affecting 1,900 Roles

Microsoft layoffs have struck the gaming sector of the massive tech company this morning. According to an internal memo obtained by IGN, 1,900 jobs have been cut, amounting to roughly 8.6% of the company’s workforce.

The memo was shared by Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, among internal Microsoft channels. Here’s the memo in full:

It’s been a little over three months since the Activision, Blizzard, and King teams joined Microsoft. As we move forward in 2024, the leadership of Microsoft Gaming and Activision Blizzard is committed to aligning on a strategy and an execution plan with a sustainable cost structure that will support the whole of our growing business. Together, we’ve set priorities, identified areas of overlap, and ensured that we’re all aligned on the best opportunities for growth.

As part of this process, we have made the painful decision to reduce the size of our gaming workforce by approximately 1,900 roles out of the 22,000 people on our team. The Gaming Leadership Team and I are committed to navigating this process as thoughtfully as possible. The people who are directly impacted by these reductions have all played an important part in the success of Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax and the Xbox teams, and they should be proud of everything they’ve accomplished here. We are grateful for all of the creativity, passion and dedication they have brought to our games, our players and our colleagues. We will provide our full support to those who are impacted during the transition, including severance benefits informed by local employment laws. Those whose roles will be impacted will be notified, and we ask that you please treat your departing colleagues with the respect and compassion that is consistent with our values.

Looking ahead, we’ll continue to invest in areas that will grow our business and support our strategy of bringing more games to more players around the world. Although this is a difficult moment for our team, I’m as confident as ever in your ability to create and nurture the games, stories and worlds that bring players together.

Phil.

Microsoft has not commented publicly regarding the layoffs as of yet. As Phil stated above, these layoffs directly impact those who were involved in all of Microsoft’s major gaming branches, including Activision Blizzard and Zenimax. It’s likely that this wave of job cuts is a part of the company’s process of rebalancing following their $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year.

Some notable figures have confirmed their departure from the company, including Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra:

We’re not even a month into 2024 and already it’s shaping up to slingshot past 2023’s total for video-game-related layoffs. It makes sense for Xbox to consolidate following a massive deal, but an immense number of lives have been directly affected as a result. Well over 5,500 positions have been affected since January 1 alone, and the number only grows. If developers don’t have job security, what do they have?

As of time of writing, we’re still waiting on Microsoft to release an official statement. We’ll be sure to update the story as we learn more.
