Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach Update 1.13 Released for Ruin DLC This July 25

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach update 1.13 is now out, and this is for the free “Ruin” DLC which was announced last month. This is a rather hefty download, and is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Xbox getting it at a later date). Read on for the FNAF Security Breach patch notes for July 25.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach Update 1.13 Patch Notes | Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach Ruin Patch Notes | FNAF Security Breach Patch Notes for July 25:

Size: 15GB (PS4)

The studio hasn’t revealed the patch notes for today’s update just yet, but here are the official details regarding the free Ruin DLC:

First, its tone is a stark contrast to that of Security Breach. Our goal was to lean into a more familiar feel Freddy’s fans have come to expect, and in that effort we’ve created DLC that’s far more dark, dreadful, and ominous than the base game. Additionally, given the dilapidated state of the Pizzplex, it’s claustrophobic and littered with the ambiance that naturally (and unnaturally) comes from an abandoned building. There aren’t a bunch of massive, well lit areas where you can see and avoid a threat in the distance.

In addition to the tonal shift, we’ve also moved away from the hide and seek gameplay of the base game. Ruin’s moment to moment is built around patience and timing. And after thinking long on what we want to share before launch I’m actually going to leave it at that. Our trailer only showed off a small fraction of the fun, and words won’t do the rest justice.

As I said previously, the DLC is going to launch on PS4, PS5, and PC. The Xbox and Switch versions of the DLC will be released at a later date. It was more important to us that we focus on a few specific platforms to give ourselves the time and space to work on what matters most – the game itself.

In addition to that, here are some of the confirmed changes from the patch via the community:

Ruin DLC – Main Menu
byu/GBAura-Recharged infivenightsatfreddys

  • Now the static fades out after a bit instead of lingering around, and the “Game Over” text looks nicer. (via GBAura-Recharged)

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll update the article, so make sure to update this from time to time.

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide

Remnant 2, the sequel to one of the best Souls-like games is finally out there, and you need your adventure to be as smooth as possible. If you don’t want to be crushed under the weight of the countless bosses and their mobs due to poor performance, make sure that you follow our tips below, as this game isn’t exactly light on your system. Our Remnant 2 best settings guide should help you optimize your options for PC, but PS5 and Xbox Series players could also take some notes from this article.

Video

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide Video

You can try to run Remnant 2 using the default configuration, and if the game runs without a hiccup, this probably means that you have pretty decent PC specs. But in case you notice frame drops especially during boss battles, when you want everything to run like a hot knife through butter, it’s time to start fiddling around with the video settings.

The first thing you should do is go with Fullscreen to get your undivided attention, and the resolution is the one you are mostly familiar with for any other games. Your first big choice will be to turn off Motion Blur, as this effect tends to add to the confusion and it’s not something you really want in a game where blinking is enough to die. If your GPU is a quality one, choose Unlocked for Vertical Sync, otherwise try to cap it at 30 or 60 fps.

In case you’re not confident that you can run Remnant 2 at the highest settings, it’s time to choose the Custom Graphics Quality Preset and tinker with the options, as you’ll want to go for performance instead of quality. Take Shadow Quality and Post Processing and select Medium setting, while still adding some flair to the game with High Foliage Quality and Effects Quality. To make sure it runs the best it can, you should select Performance Ultra in Resolution Scaling, but you can experiment with Balanced or Quality to find the best compromise.

Finally, make sure to tick the Minimize Input Latency checkbox as Remnant 2 is a game where every second counts. Even if it takes a bit out of performance (you can always adjust it even further), the tradeoff is completely worth it.

So, summing it up for the best Remnant 2 video settings:

  • Display Mode: Fullscreen
  • Resolution: Your traditional gaming resolution according to your display and preferences
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • Vertical Sync: Unlocked if supported, otherwise 60 fps
  • Graphics Quality Preset: Custom
  • Shadow Quality: Medium
  • Post Processing: Medium
  • Foliage Quality: High
  • Effects Quality: High
  • Upscaler: FidelityFX Super Resolution if none other supported by your GPU
  • Resolution Scaling: Quality if powerful PC, otherwise Performance Ultra
  • Minimize Input Latency: On

Audio

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide Audio

There isn’t much to change here, just a few sliders for Master, Voice, Music, and Sound Effects to adjust to your liking. I would recommend you to lower the voice and music just a tad, as hearing every sound effect is important and crucial for a Souls-like – some sound cues from enemies give you a perfect idea on when a hit is coming and you’ll eventually find this kind of situations engraved in your brain in no time. In case you are used to reading text as much as listening to it, the always useful subtitles option is there so that you don’t miss a story beat.

Gameplay

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide Gameplay

This setting is more about personal preferences than any other thing. With gameplay options covering almost every aspect of camera and aiming sensitivity, you can go with the default settings and adjust them after completing the prologue – the starting battle should be enough to give you a feel for the aiming and camera movement.

Hit Indicators and the Advanced Reticle are useful feedback options that may improve your performance, so don’t forget to turn them on. If you feel that the HUD may be somewhat intrusive, you also have the option to adjust opacity and size so that nothing gets in the way of your game.

Controls

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide Controls

Again, this is more about personal preferences than a standardized ruleset that may apply to everyone. Remnant 2 has many keybinds, but during the battles you won’t be needing more than a handful of keys besides the movement ones. Just make sure that you have your ability and weapon mod keys instinctively assigned, along with yoru Relic and item slots. You can leave most of the remaining controls assigned to their default keys, as these aren’t going to cause you any kind of troubles.

Languages

Remnant 2 Best Settings Guide Languages

This one is self-explanatory. You can run Remnant 2 with the default English language, but since Gunfire Games went through the effort of adding voice work in other languages such as French and Deutsch, pick the one that you are more comfortable with and enjoy the dialogues with the NPCs, especially good old Mudtooth and his “true” stories.

Remnant 2 released on July 25, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. You can read our Remnant 2 review before deciding to venture into one extremely challenging post-apocalyptic journey.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre Will Have a Performance & Quality Mode on PS5, Xbox Series X; Series S Capped at 30fps

We are less than a month away from the official release of Gun Interactive’s the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and while we’ve gotten plenty of information around the PC version, many have wondered about its console’s counterpart. Well, we got that answer for you, as we can confirm that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will feature different graphical modes on current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X)

Speaking to MP1st, Gun Interactive confirmed the following modes for current-gen consoles:

Texas Chain Saw Massacre Performance, Quality Modes:

  • PS5 – Performance Mode (60FPS target, reduced resolution) Quality Mode (30FPS target, in favor for higher resolution)
  • Xbox Series X – Performance Mode (60FPS target, reduced resolution) Quality Mode (30FPS target, in favor for higher resolution)
  • Xbox Series S – Quality Mode (30FPS target in favor for higher resolution)

For those planning on playing on last-gen consoles (PS4, PS4 Pro and Xbox One, Xbox One X) the studio didn’t clarify what the target resolution or performance were, they did confirm that those versions would feature a single mode.

Q: What frame rate will the game run on last-gen and on current-gen? Will there be any performance or quality modes players can choose?

A: Similar to many titles released this generation, we’ll offer both performance and quality modes on the high end current gen machines, with a single mode on the last gen consoles. On the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, players will be able to choose between 60fps Performance Mode at reduced resolution, or 30fps Quality Mode at a higher resolution. On the Xbox Series S, players will use Quality Mode.

We speculate that last-gen consoles will likely be targeting 30fps, given that the Xbox Series S version only has quality mode as an option. Just to be on the safe side, we did follow up with Gun Interactive to see if the Xbox Series S only had a quality mode, in which they confirmed the wording was correct: The Xbox Series S will run at 30fps.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre launches August 18 for Xbox  (day one Game Pass,) PlayStation, and PC. Stay tuned to our full interview hitting the site soon.

Final Fantasy 16 Questionnaire Seeks Player Suggestions to Improve Future Development

Fresh on the success of Final Fantasy 16, with extremely strong sales in less than a week, Square Enix is already looking for ways to keep the momentum and please fans with the upcoming content. We already know that there’s a Final Fantasy 16 DLC in the works, as Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed earlier this month, but clearly there’s more to the future of the action RPG than that, as a questionnaire reveals.

Aimed exclusively at players in Japan for now, it is open to anyone within that demographic until August 6, 2023. Any Japanese players having purchased and played Final Fantasy 16 are advised to pitch in, as their feedback will be forwarded to the development team and carefully considered for future development plans.

However, there are other caveats from this, including the mandatory step of having a Square Enix ID account linked to the Square Enix App, which is freely available for iOS and Android devices. Your feedback will be submitted via this app, and only one submission is accepted per person. Your opinions may be shared in Square Enix outlets, from the website to promotional videos, so make sure that you agree to the conditions, even if your name and nickname won’t be revealed.

Hopefully, Final Fantasy 16 fans all over Japan will provide the developers with some food-for-thought, helping shape the future of the acclaimed game in the best direction possible. While nothing has been announced, the devs behind FF16 has hinted at DLC possibly being part of the game’s future.

There’s a Completed “The Simpsons: Hit & Run” Remake Fan Project, But You Can’t Play It

A “The Simpsons: Hit & Run” remake fan project has just been completed, featuring finished levels, voice lines, and core gameplay. Unfortunately, this remake project isn’t currently available for players to download, nor will it likely ever will be, due to possible copyright concerns.

The fan project, which was only worked on by a couple of developers, was documented in a YouTube video series by reubs. You can watch the final episode here:

While the game is very much playable at this point, possible copyright concerns may arise should the project be released to the public, which is why it’s likely no one other than the devs themselves will actually be able to play the game.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run was released back in 2003 for the Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox. Developed by Radical Entertainment, it received positive reviews from critics and became a favorite among many who played it at the time. Its similarities to the Grand Theft Auto franchise, particularly Grand Theft Auto 3, made it resonate well with fans, with the game reaching 3 million copies sold by 2007.

Though we may never get to play the remade version of this cult classic, it’s nice to see passionate fans and devs building projects such as this, as it at least gives us a glimpse at what our favorite childhood games might look like today.

Blizzard Promises Fix for Accidental Diablo 4 Premium Battle Pass Activation

One of the latest controversies surrounding Diablo 4 arose when many players started activating the Premium Battle Pass without really wanting to. Used to press the button to check the Season Journey almost by instinct, many have noticed that the cursor is by default highlighting the Activate Premium button, resulting in unwarranted activation. Although the cost is far from concerning ($9.99), it’s the allegedly high number of players falling to this situation that may be concerning, as streamer Rurikhan has reported.

To rebate the arguments that the price of this activation is very low, Rurikhan claimed that he didn’t have time to commit to this season and was saving his Battle Pass for a future season. Having this purchase without any sort of order confirmation is another situation that the community didn’t take on lightly.

This issue naturally blew up on Twitter, until it reached the eyes and ears of Adam Fletcher, Global Community Development Director for Diablo. He revealed the situation was discussed and that a temporary fix is coming to ensure at least that the cursor is defaulted to the Season Journey button. This update should roll out early this week.

Outside of the Battle Pass button fix, Blizzard has bigger fish to fry, as Diablo 4 players are very unhappy with the Season 1 patch. This is something that hasn’t escaped the studio’s eyes, as they have promised that they will never release a patch like it ever again. Speaking of patches, the studio gave a short preview of what’s incoming in the next update (version 1.1.1) which you can read about here.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Logo Leaked by Monster Energy Cross-Promotion

Perhaps one of this year’s worst kept secrets, it seems that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is indeed this year’s Call of Duty game — something Activision inadvertently confirmed with its takedown notices. This time, the latest leak comes from promotional material for Monster Energy Drink, which just showed the official Modern Warfare 3 logo.

A new leaked image for this year’s Call of Duty is making its round on Twitter (er, X) today, though this time, it’s not one of in-game, but rather one relating to marketing promotion that Activision is planning on kicking off. That promotion is tied with the popular energy drink, Monster Energy, and in the image, we can clearly see that the next Call of Duty is indeed Modern Warfare 3.

Additionally, it appears that Captain Price will be featured on the cover of the title if this promotional image is anything to go by.

For those who have a hard time reading what’s being shown in the text, here’s what it says:

https://qr.monsterenergy.com/callofduty-instore

US Residents 18+ Scan to Enter. Save your receipt. Limits apply. Purchase from 9/1-12/31/23. Redeem by 3/31/24. Unlocks 2XP in select current Call of Duty titles. Limit 1 HR/day, 40 HRS total. HR cap not limited to this promotion. Game & Internet connection required. © 2023 Activision. ESRB rating: MATURE. Visit www.esrb.rog for rating information.”

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has been long rumored to be the next Call of Duty title, though Activision has yet to officially announce it. We fully expect to see that change real soon, especially with marketing seemingly starting next month.

While Activision hasn’t officially announced this year’s Call of Duty, the publisher has confirmed that operators, weapons and other cosmetic bundles from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone will carry over to this year’s game.

Unholy Review – Trial by Stealth

A horror game deeply nested into the controversy of sects and afterlife, Unholy adds the loss of a child as the motivation for our character, Dorothea Linde, to travel between worlds. With inspiration from Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark but never coming close, this is a game at its best when focused on atmospheric exploration and puzzles, but its flirting with severely flawed stealth sections brings the whole adventure down in flames.

Hell Hath No Fury Like a Childless Mother

The impressions from our Unholy hands-on preview were positive, albeit reserved. The setup was intriguing, as the desperate protagonist accepts the offer from a stranger to bring back her dead son from this alternate world known as Eternal City. The story is intriguing before delving into predictable areas, revealing her motives to join the Spring of Eternity cult with Gabriel before deciding to flee its grasp. It was too late, and a supernatural voyage is about to begin.

Crossing from the real world into the netherworld is done via a ritual where Dorothea burns mementos. But the journey is completely linear, guided by the needs of the narrative and the increasing exposition to the secrets of both locations. The enjoyable slow-paced reality merrily prances between psychological horror and occasional jumpscares, providing an appreciated descent into creepiness and insanity that never fully materializes, instead opting for a netherworld where Solid Snake would feel right at home.

Unholy Review

Some of the issues with Unholy is that the design alternates between competent and excessively clunky. When you’re following the beats and navigating the environment, it’s acceptable apart from failing to spot a ledge to climb or a hole to crawl into, eventually the occasional invisible wall frustrating your efforts. But Dorothea displays the agility of a sedentary mother who avoids exercise at all cost, with jumps that are barely useful to overcome anything, safe for very rare and specific occasions, and the constant will to bump into the environment and have a hard time moving around it.

Paired with the stealth sections, this becomes an infuriating exercise of trial and error. The countless ways in which these mechanics are broken are too many to describe, but the AI is what takes the otherworldly cake here, as it acts in a mix of brainless and frustrating. Take the lockers where you can hide from the guards and ghouls as an example – even if you are at an arm’s reach from your pursuer, stepping into a locker is like a safe space, instantly throwing them off. But now it’s time to be annoyed by the long waiting times, as the enemies rotate in place, ghouls twitch around, feeling like an eternity before they finally return to their post, if that happens. Exit the locker and the odds are high that you’re just going to be chased again, repeating the process.

Stealth has more issues worth noting, such as ghouls running against walls and other obstacles, ignoring mines exploding right in front of them and shots flying by, and so on. Even the mere act of descending a ladder is flawed, as Dorothea keeps staring up and disregarding the fact that ghouls may be waiting for us right below.

Since Unholy limits your movement by highlighting the few places you are able to climb or vault, there’s no room for experimentation or improvisation, forcing you to plan a route according to the few available possibilities. Dishonored this isn’t for sure.

Learning the goal of each stealth section by dying repeatedly and then attempting a run for it is likely to become your modus operandi. Except in a few moments where the game truly tries to be ingenious, such as the locked doors area where you can’t open more than two at a time, but that doesn’t make up for all the rest.

Emotion Management

Unholy Review

Stealth plays a big part of your escapades in Eternal City, but you’re going to find a couple of devices to help you, albeit in essentially a limited way. Four emotions can be found and used with your supernatural slingshot, basically amounting to different types of ammo. Anger breaks objects in the environment, Shock destroys circuit breakers, Sadness creates a cloud of smoke to obstruct the enemies’ sight, and Desire attracts enemies to a given location.

One of the issues is that you don’t select your ammo type with a single keypress, you must cycle through all of them. In the heat of the moment this becomes fuel for chaos, as you mistakenly select an emotion that isn’t going to help you out, while the ghouls draw near. The slow rate of fire is also aggravating, something that the extremely basic skill tree doesn’t help much with. Since enemies kill you with a couple of hits, sometimes as you try to escape the first one, and you have no melee attack, your only resort is to attract them to a mine, one that may eventually kill you as well if you’re not careful.

Die and you are placed at a checkpoint that is designed to test your patience, forcing a repetition of processes that makes Unholy feel like literal hell, a mother’s supernatural struggle that somehow is making us reconsider its worth, not for lack of trying. May Gabriel hold tight as we watch another ghoul twitch its head from the safety of our locker for an uncertain time.

Masks are another feature that feel little more than a gimmick. Every so often you will create a mask out of a grand total of three, one of them available very late in the game. From seeing interactive objects to navigating through poisonous clouds or detecting enemies in thermal vision style, these can be useful but since you can’t use it along with your slingshot, it requires some unwarranted juggling.

Unholy is plagued by other issues that hurt your enjoyment. Grammar errors aren’t uncommon, clipping through walls and gratings is a thing, but the most flagrant situation and one that frustrated me throughout the seven-hour adventure was that the interaction points often fail to register. I could be close to an object or door and the interaction point didn’t appear, or was just randomly flickering in and out of existence, preventing me from triggering it. This may be related to alt-tabbing or some performance issue, but it’s enough of a negative point that surely will happen to more players.

To Hell and Back

Unholy Review

Unholy’s atmosphere has its moments, bolstered by a sound design that isn’t shy on the choirs and tension. Dorothea’s accelerated breathing is interesting to listen, although it drags on for too long and not quite the best thing to do when hiding in a locker, but game logic, right? Wooden acting during cutscenes and general clumsy voice work that often chews up the scenery don’t do the game any favors.

Unholy started on the right foot, with a setup that wasn’t too far from contemporary horror movies, but you’ll be better off by waiting for the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake. The predictable descent into madness wasn’t entirely successful, as the netherworld is little more than your average city in ruins and an excuse to add broken stealth elements into what could have been an accomplished narrative-driven mystery. This is a game that works better when it isn’t trying to tick boxes left and right, but once you step foot into the Eternal City, it drags at snail pace and rewards you with recurrent death and frustration. A mother’s struggle it may be, but making it a player’s struggle as well isn’t exactly what horror games should do.

Score: 5/10

Pros:

  • First chapter is a moody and immersive horror experience
  • Decent gameplay when focusing on exploration and puzzles

Cons:

  • Eternal City is literal stealth hell with broken mechanics
  • Enemy AI is bare-bones
  • Dorothea doesn’t have the agility this task requires
  • Lack of polish and bugs

Tencent Acquires Majority Stake in Dying Light Studio, Techland

One of the most cherished independent players in the industry and renowned for its contribution with games like Dead Island and Dying Light 2, Techland is now turning the page and embracing a whole new and exciting chapter. According to words from founder and CEO Paweł Marchewka, Techland is now welcoming Tencent as majority shareholder.

The reasoning for the partnership with one of the largest global videogame studios is explained by the ambition to deliver the first new Techland IP in almost a decade. A fantasy open-world RPG with the burden of the studio’s top-quality backlog, it has to live up to players’ expectations worldwide, and that is where Tencent comes in. With the strength of the capabilities and resources provided by this cooperation, Techland should be able to deliver on the boldest vision without any restraints.

The announcement clarifies that Paweł will retain his position as the studio’s CEO, and states that Techland remains the owner of its IP, while creative freedom should come out unscathed from this deal.

While little is known about this fantasy epic, it sounds like Techland’s best work is in the making. After honing its open-world craft in over a decade of fiddling around with zombies and parkour, we can only hope this turns out to be the studio’s Skyrim… or even better.
