Titanfall Will Remain An Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC Exclusive For Its ‘Lifetime’, Says EA

Those hanging on to a shimmer of hope that Respawn’s debut first-person shooter might just make it’s way to Sony’s current- or next-generation platforms are in for a bit of a disappointment.

During the company’s Q2 FY14 financial results earnings call, video game publisher Electronic Arts confirmed that Titanfall will remain exclusive to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC for, well, ever.

Titanfall “is exclusive only for the lifetime of the title on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC,” said CFO Blake Jorgensen during the call.

COO Peter Moore also dispelled all rumors that Titanfall is being rushed to the market for its recently announced March 11 release date, saying “no, we’re not doing that at all.” He anticipated that the game will review “very highly” come release.

Thanks, IGN.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Perk System Explained

This year, Call of Duty: Ghosts developers Infinity Ward are yet again revamping the perk system which has become a staple feature of the series since its debut in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Instead of the traditional three tiers of perks that every Call of Duty title has adopted ever since, the studio will be introducing four additional tiers, equalling out to seven in total, each with their own unique role.

In total, Call of Duty: Ghosts will boast 35 different perks, which may send your head into a dizzy spin considering the amount of combinations that were available with only three tiers originally.

Luckily, to help explain how these perks are unlocked, equipped and used is a recent blog entry that the studio published on the official website. So, take a moment to read up on everything there is to know about Call of Duty: Ghosts’ perks below!

Be sure to let us know in the comments what sort of combinations you’ll be testing out first when the game launches next Tuesday, November 5.

Ghosts-Blog_Perks-1200x630

Equipping Perks

Each of the 35 available Perks is weighted with a point value of 1 through 5. Your loadouts naturally have a pool of 8 points to spend on Perks, up to a total of 12 depending on your loadout choices.

In addition to the initial 8 points, a single Perk point is tied to the Primary Weapon slot, Secondary Weapon slot, Lethal and Tactical. Take away any one of these items for an additional Perk point, allowing a maximum of 12 points to spend. If you’re a Perk fanatic, you’re welcome to forego all weapons and equipment, starting each spawn with only a knife in hand and 12 points worth of Perks. It’s your choice.

Perk Unlock System

Perks are unlocked in one of two ways. Each Perk is marked with a level and a Squad Point cost. Once you reach the listed level, the Perk is automatically unlocked for use. If you’d rather unlock a Perk early, you can also choose to spend the listed amount of Squad Points for immediate access. Can’t wait to unlock Blast Shield for your Domination matches? Pay the listed Squad Points ahead of time and it’s yours to use.

Perk Categories

Each Perk belongs to one of seven different Perk Categories. Mix and match as you see fit to create a near unlimited number of loadout combinations, from quick and stealthy to tough and armed to the teeth.

Speed

Outrun and outmaneuver enemy players. Speed Perks are all about getting the lead and staying ahead. Examples include:

Sleight of Hand: Faster reloading.

Stalker: Move faster while aiming.

Handling

Dexterity and control drives the Handling Perks, improving actions and accuracy. Examples include:

On the Go: Reload while sprinting.

Steady Aim: Increased hip fire accuracy.

Stealth

Stealth Perks aid you in staying out of sight, maintaining a low profile and engaging on your terms. Examples include:

Takedown: Kill enemies without revealing their death locations.

Incog: Resistant to targeting systems including: Recon, Thermal Scope, Tracker Sight and Motion Sensor. No name or red crosshairs when targeted.

Awareness

Keep in tune with your surroundings. Awareness Perks help you survey the environment and detect enemy players. Examples include:

SitRep: Detect enemy explosives and tactical equipment.

Wiretap: Utilize all active enemy and friendly SAT COMs on the field.

Resistance

A hardened endurance reduces the effects of fatigue. Resistance Perks keep you going through tough engagements. Examples include:

Focus: Reduced weapon sway when aiming down sights and reduced flinch when hit.

Blast Shield: Increased resistance to explosive damage.

Equipment

Tacticians swear by their gear, and Equipment Perks ensure you have the best tools on hand. Examples include:

Extra Tactical: Additional Tactical equipment.

Extra Attachment: Extra attachment for your weapons.

Elite

Elite Perks offer special abilities that affect your loadouts in a variety of ways. Examples include:

Gambler: Spawn with a random Perk.

Ping: Activate a sonar ping upon killing an enemy, revealing nearby hostiles.

Wishing Call of Duty a Happy Tenth Birthday!

Today marks a very special day for the guys and gals behind one of the most ground breaking series the gaming world has ever seen this generation.

Today, Call of Duty celebrates it’s tenth birthday.

And how fitting it is that the franchise’s seeds were first planted on October 29 back in the year 2003 by the very same studio currently gearing up for the release of the 10th official numbered title in the series and, once again, the first title to pave the way into an entirely new generation of Call of Duty.

Call of Duty has been in development at a number of studios since it’s inception, including the highly acclaimed Infinity Ward and Treyarch studios, along with teams like Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, Neversoft and Beachhead Studios. The series has taken us to places both fictional and non-fictional where we’ve experience wars of the past, present and future.

This November 5, Infinity Ward aims to introduce us to an entirely new scenario and cast of characters, as well as to set the standard yet again for the most addicting first-person shooter experience of the upcoming generation with Call of Duty: Ghosts.

So, let’s pay homage to teams that have entertained you for an entire decade with both great single player moments and truly memorable multiplayer experiences.

To hit you with a bit of nostalgia, we’ve included the reveal trailer for all of the major Call of Duty releases below, starting at the year 2003 through to the year 2013. Check them out, and be sure to tell us in the comments which Call of Duty you think is most memorable. We look forward to your thoughts!

Battlefield 4 On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Compared, Resolutions Confirmed

On the eve of Battlefield 4‘s official release, we get our first side-by-side comparison of the game running on both next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

DigitalFoundry have put together a video directly comparing the two versions of Battlefield 4 side-by-side in a number of slow-motion sequences. Though there is clearly a bit of a difference, some of you may have a preference for one over the other either way.

Thus far, reviews for the game have confirmed the resolution in which the game runs at on each platform, stating that while the PlayStation 4 version runs at 1600×900, the Xbox One version sits at a 1280×720 resolution.

Interestingly, EuroGamer notes that “both versions are treated to post-processing anti-aliasing too, seemingly equivalent to the refined, high setting on PC. However, this doesn’t tell the whole story. As you may notice in our screengrabs, the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we’d expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony’s console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image.”

Check out the video below and tell us what you think in the comments!

Update 1

Digital Foundry has also uploaded a side-by-side frame rate comparison between the two consoles.

Update 2

IGN has posted their own PlayStation 4 / Xbox One comparison which you can check out below. Thanks, Jody Clark!

Battlefield 4 Officially Launches, All Levolution Events Detailed

After two or arguably more years in the making, Battlefield 4 is at last on physical and digital store shelves for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but what will separate this particular title from other shooters in its class this year?

Is it the gorgeous visuals powered by the new Frostbite 3 engine, the large player counts spread across expansive battlefields, or the epic vehicular wars waged across land, sea and air? Perhaps the most prominent innovation we could point our fingers to is a feature developers DICE are touting as “Levolution.”

Uniquely different to each and every Battlefield 4 multiplayer map is a significant map-changing event that will alter the tactics used during any given match in one way or another. Be it a collapsing building, flooded streets, or a massive war ship crashing ashore, there is always something interesting to look forward to in each game of Battlefield 4 multiplayer.

Let’s take a look at each of the primary Levolution events across all 10 of Battlefield 4’s multiplayer maps and how each will affect the gameplay.

Dawnbreaker

bf4_mp9

Maximizing pressure in the gas pipelines that run along the central avenue by operating two valves beneath the street will cause them to explode, destroying and collapsing the bridge up top.

The destruction will, of course, disrupt vehicle usage along the roads above and below but also provide more cover within one of the more heated areas of the map.

Flood Zone

bf4_mp6

A levee holding back a large body of water can be destroyed using C4, grenades, rockets, or any other explosive devices aimed at a large crack in the structure.

Breaking it will flood the streets, allowing the usage of amphibious vehicles, and will open up new routes while closing others. A battle pickup will become unavailable.

Golmud Railway

bf4_mp5

A capture point placed on a train moves closer to the spawn of the team that has captured that objective. IED’s are also placed throughout the map which are capable of mass damage. They can be triggered with explosive weaponry or detonated with various control consoles.

IED explosions create huge craters in the map, changing the landscape. The moving train, which also carries mounted weapons, will make the capturing team’s job much easier the closer it moves to their base.

Hainan Resort

bf4_mp8

Oil spills set ablaze with explosives will cause the left and right wings of the central hotel to burn down.

Visibility is reduced due to black smoke while areas in the hotel become inaccessible.

Lancing Dam

bf4_mp4

Using rockets and other explosive devices along the large crack, the large dam can be broken, sending large pieces of debris crashing to the ground.

The landscape around the base of the dam is altered and visibility is reduced while all electricity within the area is also shut of. A battle pickup available previous to the event becomes disabled.

Operation Locker

bf4_mp3

Players can lock enemies within the prison gates where a tower will crumble if hit with enough explosive munitions, killing the trapped soldiers within. The snowstorm that rages outside of the prison will intensify and calm throughout a match.

Opening and closing the prison gates will alter various routes while weaponry stationed in the tower will not longer be functional after it is destroyed. The crumbling tower will also slightly alter the map’s layout while the blizzard outside will make it more difficult to see in and out of the prison.

Paracel Storm

bf4_mp2

After it is struck with lighting by the oncoming storm, a wind turbine can be destroyed, sending a gigantic US destroyer ship crashing ashore.

The crashed ship will alter the landscape in a high-traffic area on the map and allow access to the ship’s AA guns and a new battle pickup. The ever increasing storm will reduce visibility and result in larger waves, making battles on the water a little more complicated.

Rogue Transmission

bf4_mp10

Destroying the cables supporting a large radio telescope receiver will send it crashing down to the dish below.

The playable area underneath the receiver will be altered and will no longer spawn a vehicle.

Seige of Shanghai

bf4_mp1

The central sky scraper will fall if its support structures are destroyed by explosive weaponry. Bollards on the bridges accessing the tower can be raised and lowered.

The debris will reduce visibility and drastically alter the area surrounding the the building, even changing the elevation of a capture point. Vehicles will be unable to advance across the bridge with raised bollards.

Zavod 311

bf4_mp7

A timer inside the central building can be toggled. Upon reaching zero, a large warhead will explode, sending the smokestack above tumbling to the ground.

The area in which the explosion and tower crash takes place will become inhospitable to vehicles and can also damage players who enter the area with radiation poisoning.

Clearly, all these Levolution events and more can make for a very dynamic battlefield that shape shifts throughout the course of a match. Let us know in the comments, which scenarios have you experienced so far, and feel free to vote in the poll below for the Levolution event you think is the coolest!

Call of Duty: Ghosts 25 Point Streak Spotted – The K.E.M. Strike

What would an Call of Duty game from developers Infinity Ward be without a massive 25 Kill Streak/Point Streak that annihilates enemy forces in one swift and devastating event?

According to leaked images of the game in action, yet another 25 Point Streak will be returning in Call of Duty: Ghosts. Twitter user xD_Ryan_ was able to get a hold of this leaked image revealing the K.E.M. Strike 25 Point Streak.

Similar to the Odin strike that can be attained through accomplishing Field Orders, the K.E.M. Strike will also devastate any given multiplayer map, turning it into a ruined wasteland and altering its layout for the remainder of the match.

In the image, you’ll notice that the user achieved 2500 points by earning 100 points per each of his or her 25 kills in a game of Team Deathmatch. This resulted in earning the K.E.M. Strike on top of the three other Point Streaks indicated at the bottom right.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 included the lethal M.O.A.B. while Modern Warfare 2 before that featured the game-ending Tactical Nuke.

Are you happy to see the return of the 25 Point Streak in Call of Duty: Ghosts?

Battlefield 4 – Moving Objectives, Counter-Knife Tweaked For Final Build and More

As we inch closer to Battlefield 4‘s official release only a few days away, we’re learning more about the final build of the game and how it differs from the beta that took place early October.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to read up on all the improvements that Battlefield 4 developers DICE announced they will be making to the final game right here.

Through some new footage published by YouTube personality JackFrags where he gives some of his own impressions regarding the final build of the game, we’ve learned a few interesting new facts.

Jack mentions that on at least one map, Golmud Railway in particular, the Conquest design will feature a moving objective point. In this case, an objective, or flag, that is stationed on top of a moving train, will actually move closer to the team that has that point captured, producing a tug-of-war-like effect between the two opposing forces. Seige of Shanghai, the map we got to play in the beta, was similar in that while it didn’t move in any sort of direction on the map, it did change elevation once the sky scraper it was perched on was destroyed.

The newly introduced counter-knife mechanic has been refined to no longer allow users to “spam” the knife button for easy kills. It was generally agreed upon that in the beta, it was rather easy to rapidly hit the knife button during a knife animation in order to effortlessly turn the situation around. Now, users must hit the key during a short prompt that pop’s up, giving you a smaller chance to get the timing right. Hitting the key before or after will result in a failed knife reversal.

There are a few other interesting bits of info, but we’ll let JackFrags explain in his video below. Check it out:

[youtube id=”Vw9BgWR9qBg” width=”618″ height=”378″]

As JackFrags mentions in his video, look forward to some next-gen Battlefield 4 gameplay on October 29.

What are your thoughts on moving objective points and the tweaks DICE has made to the counter-knife mechanic? Let us know in the comments!

Call of Duty: Ghosts Requires 3GB Install on Xbox 360, Current-Gen Supports 12 Players, 18 on Next-Gen

While we’re managing to stay away from story spoilers and overly-revealing leaks, images of early copies of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts are providing some useful information to consumers with pre-orders on the game’s November 5 release.

Earlier, we learned about the game’s multiplayer maps and game modes and got a our first tease surrounding the mysterious new Extinction game mode.

A new leaked image sent to our friends over at CI reveals that Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Xbox 360 – and presumably the PlayStation 3 as well – will only manage 12 players, instead of the normal 18 player count that previous titles featured and that the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Ghosts will feature.

BXmzM7BCYAEeF4R.jpg-large1-620x361-1

This will most definitely result in the absence of the Ground War game type on current-generation versions of the game, which usually included modes like TDM and Domination with higher player counts in previous titles.

Also confirmed via this image is that the Xbox 360 version will require a 3GB install to your console’s hard drive. Good news for those with 4GB models.

If this is indeed ends up being the case, are you guys sad to see Ground War go on the current-generation version of Call of Duty: Ghosts?

Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction Mode Teased, Loading Screen Image Leaked

Call of Duty: Ghosts developers Infinity Ward have, at last, acknowledged the mysterious game mode spotted in recent trailers and who’s achievements and trophies were recently revealed, suggesting it is the studio’s answer to Treyarch’s (and World at War’s/Black Ops’) Zombies horde mode.

Going in a slightly different direction, this mode in particular appears to be centered around alien creatures, rather than zombies, and a recent official teaser coming from Infinity Ward’s Instragram suggests as such.

Screen Shot 2013-10-27 at 9.32.55 AM

Check out the Instagram teaser by following this link.

Leaked images of the game mode’s loading screen go even further to point to some sort of alien infestation that players will most likely need to defend themselves from. You can see how the creature closely resembles the skull that appears in the teaser above.

With just over a week until we get our hands on the new mode and find out for ourselves, how pumped are you for Infinity Ward’s take on yet another exciting Call of Duty mini game? Have you always wanted to battle aliens in Call of Duty?

Thanks, Polkaan, for the tip!

Call of Duty: Ghosts Leaks – Multiplayer Maps, Game Modes and Two Discs on Xbox 360

In an unsurprising turn of events, details surrounding Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty title, Ghosts, have leaked via physical and in-game images of an early release copy of the game.

Instagram user mute0909 has posted images of his attained copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts revealing the game’s multiplayer maps list, game mode lists, and that the Xbox 360 version of the game will ship on two discs.

As was the case with games like Halo 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5, Call of Duty: Ghosts will most likely require Xbox 360 users to install data to the console’s hard drive in order to avoid disc swapping. The actual amount, however, was not specified in any of the images. For the most part, this means good things as it indicates that the game will include more content – like higher resolution textures, for example – than previous Call of Duty titles.

If you care to note the game’s multiplayer maps and game modes, check out lists below:

Multiplayer Maps

  • Chasm
  • Flooded
  • Free Fall (Bonus Map)
  • Freight
  • Octane
  • Overload
  • Prison Break
  • Seige
  • Sovereign
  • Stonehaven
  • Strikezone
  • Stormfront
  • Tremor
  • Warhawk
  • Whiteout

Multiplayer Game Modes

  • Blitz – Make it to the portal on the enemy’s spawn point.

The Last of Us: Abandoned Territoies Map Pack Review

Let’s just get straight down to the point; if you liked the original maps, then you’re going to love these ones.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Naughty Dog are amongst the most talented developers today and without sacrificing any aspects of the core experience, they have pushed the multiplayer for The Last of Us even further.

The Abandoned Map pack comes with four new maps, all of which are excellently designed and push the high intensity tactical tension that the originals were known for. In comparison, these maps are far more deadlier due to the amount of covered that can be taken and how much larger they feel. Use of stealth has really become a huge emphasis, and going at it alone will only get you killed. You or an enemy can easily flank one another, though that goes without saying that a rifleman isn’t perched up high above with a bird’s-eye view. The tension has never felt greater with these new maps.

The Maps

Bookstore

[youtube id=”AwkCsvxudFo” width=”618″ height=”378″]

This one is probably my favorite, just due to the way it’s structured. The Bookstore is plotted right in the middle of a city, and in terms of scale, the level feels condensed due to the large surrounding buildings. Inside the bookstore players can battle it out from high above or down below. Either way the amount of cover can surely change the flow of a battle. In my very first match, as seen above, you can clearly see that with the right amount of skills and the excellent use of cover, a losing team could easily triumph over the winning side.

Suburbs

[youtube id=”NzCHnG7HMPM” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Based on one of the most memorable moments of the single-player campaign, Suburbs takes place in a simiar small town. The streets are filled with cars, while the sides of the road feature houses with multiple stories. Out of all the maps, I have to say this is probably the most unique one considering how lively, yet abandoned it feels. Plant life has taken a liking to the location and has grown far beyond their normal reach. Buildings are covered in moss, the grass is tall, and every now and then a dust storm picks up in the middle of the match, adding a “dynamic” feel to the battlefield. It gives you that “50’s” vibe do the high contrast color and how the homes look and feel old fashion with all their contents left behind.

Bus Depot

[youtube id=”piJQTGotaGU” width=”618″ height=”378″]

Probably the only map I am  disappointed with. Unless I am missing something, we were promised Giraffes moving in the background. WHERE ARE MY GIRAFFES!! No, but seriously, if anything, this map feels more like Bill’s Town meets Checkpoint. That doesn’t necessary mean that it’s a bad map – far from it, in fact. I am just saying that it feels “less” new than the other ones. The one thing that Bus Depot does have to offer over the other maps is the thoughtful sound design. The layout is great, but you never really notice the beauty of this map until you stop to listen to what it has to offer. You can hear animals chirping in the background (maybe the Giraffes?), along with a random dog barking. Outside of the map is a city, yet it’s been completely over taken by the wildlife. Despite the absence of actual animals roaming the map, the sounds emulates that feeling that you are indeed surrounded by wildlife.

Hometown

[youtube id=”JvscsPO59Uc” width=”618″ height=”378″]

“Hometown” revisits the epilogue in the story mode. Some time has passed since the outbreak and it appears that refugees have taken a liking to this small town. Defenses have been placed in a condensed area in the center of town. My gripe with The Last of Us’ original selection of maps was that there were only two night maps, one of which (Downtown) is usually skipped during the map voting process. So it’s great to see another night map like Hometown, especially since it offers an eerie feeling with the abandoned remnants of the tenants that lived there. Roaming the map and finding small hiding places where someone possible slept, or even seeing lanterns around are all nice touches. Even some of the buildings are on fire from the chaos that ensued in the Single-player.

Overall, these maps are a welcome addition considering how well designed and immersive they feel. If you are on the fence about buying this, I highly suggest it and would even go as far to say, ‘buy the season pass.’ There’s no doubt after getting my hands on this first DLC pack that the guys over at Naughty Dog are going to continue to produce great DLC for The Last of Us. The antics are rising as they continue to supply us with one of the best, intense, tactical multiplayer experiences yet. Be on the look out for the next DLC, which is set to launch sometime before the end of this year.
