XDefiant Update 1.000.026 Adds Quick Play Button, Various Game Fixes This Oct. 30

Ubisoft has pushed out the XDefiant Y1S2.3 patch on all platforms, which aims to resolve a few key issues, but there are also gameplay fixes as well. Those on consoles, you’ll see this as XDefiant update 1.000.026, and this adds a Quick Button at the main menu, adjusts some factions, and more.

XDefiant Update 1.000.026 Patch Notes for Y1S2.3:

Gameplay

  • Added a new Quick Play button to the main menu so players can bypass the pomp and circumstance and jump right into the action.
  • Widened the entry angle from which a player facing a ledge can mantle it, from 120 degrees to 140 degrees. In other words, now players shouldn’t have to directly face a ledge to mantle it. Also restored missing player animations when mantling an object while wielding the SPAS-12.
  • Players were inflicting melee damage if they triggered the attack while facing away from their opponent but turned toward them before the melee animation completed. Now players will only inflict melee damage if they are targeting an opponent when the melee animation reaches its moment of impact.
  • Players were earning twice the intended amount of Battle Pass XP for completing a linear match. Now they earn the intended amount.

Factions

  • Highwaymen
    • Highwaymen Saw Launcher blades were killing players, then killing them again right after they respawned, the textbook definition of a buzzkill. They no longer do that.
    • The Saw Launcher no longer kills players within Médico Supremo’s field of soothing health mist without ricocheting to deliver a second, and fatal, blow.
  • GS-Kommando
    • The Flash Shield ultra is now ready to go the moment its status bar is full, at which point the bar turns green (previously, the status bar stayed red for a beat before turning green).

Maps

  • Players no longer see the incorrect map cinematic displayed when joining a match in progress.
  • Fixed line-of-sight issues on the Clubhouse, Rockefeller, Daytona, and Pueblito maps that let players see the names of other players through obstructions.

Game Modes

  • Bomb!
    • Players joining a Bomb! game in progress were given a chilling glimpse of the bottomless firmament that lies beyond the reassuringly corporeal walls of XDefiant’s combat domains. But good news: The spectator cam no longer clips through the environment to peer into the soulless void.
    • Fixed a failure of spectator cam and HUD functionality when joining a Bomb! match in progress.
  • CTF
    • Xbox Series X players were getting a little progress bump on the achievement “Winner” every time they returned the enemy flag to their base in CTF. That Achievement is only supposed to progress after winning 10 matches and has now been fixed.

Ranked

  • Hitting the Play button from the Ranked mode screen before that mode is available no longer displays a preview of the currently selected rewards tier.
  • Fixed the Play button on the Ranked mode menu screen so it no longer remains selectable for players banned temporarily because they quit Ranked matches three times in a row (which incurs a one-hour ban from playing Ranked mode).

Weapons

Players now earn progression XP for their currently equipped weapon when scoring objective points (earned for killing the flag carrier in CTF, taking out Package pushers in Escort, etc.).

  • Lowered the rates of fire for the AK-47 and ACR 6.8 by 25 rounds per minute respectively.
  • Players can no longer pick up weapons while in the middle of switching them or, conversely, switch weapons in the middle of picking up a new one. This quality-of-life fix also eliminates a bug that would sometimes turn a player’s weapon invisible while performing weapon-switching and pickup simultaneously.
  • The Pyroclastic weapon skin now unlocks at level 500 as intended.

Devices

  • Smoke Grenade
    • Smoke grenades make their debut on the battlefield. This new grenade type sows confusion among your opponents, blocking their line of sight while disabling aim assist, AI-targeted skills (such as Scrap Turrets and Spiderbots), enemy outlines, and the minimap. Also comes in handy for hiding an aggressive push or just adding a touch of chaotic je ne sais quoi to the battlefield.

Netcode

  • Further reductions to netcode bandwidth, an ongoing process. You can read more about why bandwidth reduction is so important in our Year 1 Update.

Audio

  • Echelon’s Digital Ghillie Suit was silencing players’ footsteps as well as turning them invisible, which seemed like an unrealistic and unreasonable level of stealth. So now cloaked agents have audible footsteps again.
  • Toned down the sound of exploding Spiderbots so it’s more realistic and appropriate in tighter spaces. Also, Spiderbot footsteps and servo noises cease once the little buggers commence face-hugging.

Miscellaneous

  • Upon completing matches, players were seeing unlock notifications for faction characters they had already unlocked. Now they won’t see those notifications.
  • Improved PC performance issues that have crept up since the launch of season 2, particularly on the Emporium map.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the mouse from locking to the game window when playing on a second monitor.
  • The XDefiant Starter Pack in the in-game store displayed an “Offer Expired” tag when, in fact, the offer has not expired.
  • Crash fixes, various.

Dying Light 2 Update 1.56 for Version 1.19 Released for Tower Raid: Halloween Run

Techland has released a new massive download for Dying Light 2 this October 30, and this adds the Halloween festivities to the zombie action game. Players can now download Dying Light 2 update 1.56 (PS5/Xbox Series X|S version 1.056), and this is for the Tower Raid: Halloween Run, which also brings in new features as part of Patch 1.19!

There’s a new control Firearms layout for controllers, and of course, various fixes. In addition to that, Techland has also released a developer insight video on the new content as well as “beyond.”

Dying Light 2 Update 1.56 Patch Notes and Tower Raid: Halloween Run Info

Download Size: 14GB (PC)

Tower Raid: Halloween Run

Tower Raid is back, but this time with a spooky vibe! Nightmarish creatures have awoken under the All Hallows’ Eve moon and stormed the Tower. Now, it’s your job to take them on with your friends. You’ll be duly rewarded for doing so with Halloween Candies that can be used to get all the items from the brand new Van Aiden Bundle and more!

Once you’ve made your way in, you’ll be asked to choose one of four themed-characters. So unlike the Open Beta, you will get a preset loadout based on which character you pick. Each of them have their own traits and weapons, so try them all out and find the one that best suits your style! These spooky characters are:

  •  Scarecrow
  •  Van Aiden
  •  Plague
  •  Cursed Pirate

Baka also makes his return, and he’s hanging outside the Bazaar and fully restocked with new items. There’s also stuff from last year’s Halloween event in case you’re interested. If you have leftover candies from the last Dying Light 2 Halloween event, these will be converted to fresh ones to spend at Baka’s shop.

If you want more of a challenge, Techland has you covered. Starting November 6, you’ll be able to take on “Elite Mode,” and this is where enemies are harder to kill and they deal more damage. In return, players can expect special bounties. After that, there’s also something to look forward to on November 13, as a new group of bounties will be unveiled available to all players regardless if you’re playing Elite Mode or not.

Dying Light 2 Version 1.19 Patch Notes Changes

New Control Scheme

Alongside the standard one, we have introduced a Firearms layout for controllers, which you can activate in the Controls menu (via Options). The new layout will allow you to use LT/L2 to aim your guns and block when using melee weapons. So get ready, sharpshooters.
There are also other small adjustments to controls. Make sure to check them in-game from the Controls menu and select the mapping you want to use.

The Finals Update 1.000.060 Shoots Out for Patch 4.5.0 This Oct. 30

The Finals update 1.000.060 is here and this is for patch 4.5.0. Since Halloween is just around the corner, this update includes some Halloween-themed rewards. Several balance changes have also been made. Read on for the October 30 patch notes down below.

The Finals Update 1.000.060 Patch Notes:

Halloween is here!

We’ve got an all-new event with 27 collectible rewards and an explosive addition to the World Tour maps starting tomorrow, sponsored by HOLTOW, who reminds you to carve your pumpkins with extreme caution!

For today…

Join the Treat Hunt Collection Event Feeling dizzy, Contestant? It might be the copious amounts of OSPUZE-flavored Halloween candy you’ve been eating, or it could be our brand new feature – the Wheel!

The Reward Wheel is something we’ve never seen before in THE FINALS! We realized that we could not be the World’s greatest game show without a flashy wheel of amazing prizes!

This Halloween, instead of adding all of these amazing cosmetics to the store, we’ve added them to the Reward Wheel. In order to spin the wheel and win something, you must have a ticket, and you can earn up to three tickets per day by completing daily contracts!

There’s an equal chance of winning every item, and if there’s a specific item you want from the wheel you can buy it using either VR’s or Multibucks (depending on the item) – no luck needed! If you spend a ticket on a spin and wind up on a reward you already have, you’ll get some VR’s back – so every spin is a win!

If you collect all the rewards featured on the wheel, you’ll get the grand prize: the Stealth Specter Bundle, which is sure to make you stand out in The Arena!

The event goes live right now, and will be live for two full weeks – so make sure you hop in right now, work your way through those contracts, and…

SPIN.

THAT.

WHEEL!

Do you know what makes this Halloween event extra scary? We’ve never done anything like this before. We want to keep finding new ways to reward and amuse you while keeping the game new and fun! Because this is so new, we would love your feedback on this event. So when it’s over, we’ll ask you to fill out a short survey about your experience.

In this update, the store is Spookier than ever! If you’re still unsure about what to dress up as for Halloween the Seas The Day bundle has you covered, it even comes with a pirate’s booty worth of Multibucks!

For those of you fighting for the top 500, this week, we are introducing Ruby level to the leaderboards!

Check out this week’s balance changes and a longer dev note on how we approach balance changes this season:

Balance Changes

Our approach to balancing the game has evolved since the first season of THE FINALS! In the beginning, we made a lot of changes because the game was brand new and we suddenly had a constant flow of players to provide feedback, telemetry, and information that we could use to quickly calibrate and experiment with.
As time marches on and we start to see this game reach a more stable state, we want to fall into a more sustainable and reliable rhythm that gives us time to plan larger and more meaningful shifts in balance based on how we see the community engage with the meta.

As such, our intent is to do those larger, meta-altering balance passes at the start of each new season, where we can introduce new strategies and ways to play. Then, as needed, we’ll perform another pass halfway through each season aimed at polishing the current meta and addressing major feedback points from our core without fully resetting the meta and causing confusion.

Between these two major balance passes, we’ll only perform smaller nudges to the balance that aim to smooth out the current experience when absolutely necessary.

We’re hopeful this approach will lead to a smoother and clearer experience for you and help set better expectations regarding the weekly game updates while being kinder to our players and to our team!

Weapons

Model 1887

  • Increased inner pellet radius from 0.45 to 0.65, making the weapon less accurate at longer ranges
  • Increased outer pellet radius from 1.3 to 1.7, making the weapon less accurate at longer ranges
  • Decreased damage falloff multiplier from 65% to 60%, causing the weapon to do less damage at range
Dev Note: One way we investigate the balance of weapons is to look at effectiveness in gameplay (i.e. stats like damage, kill rates, headshot rates, and accuracy), in addition to stats like usage and win rates. Looking at this data alone, the Model 1887 is good but not exceptional when it comes to effectiveness during play. However, we’ve seen a large uptick in usage, mostly in higher-skill tiers which has led to the gun being very prevalent in matches and leading to a somewhat stale meta. This ‘nudge’ to the effective range will hopefully disrupt this trend, without making the weapon weaker than its nearest competitors when it comes to effectiveness (i.e. the AKM, Famas and Pike-556).

XP-54

  • Increased damage falloff start distance from 15m to 20m, making the weapon more impactful at range
  • Increased damage falloff end distance from 25m to 30m, making the weapon more impactful at range
  • Decreased damage falloff multiplier from 65% to 62%

Content and Bug Fixes

Contracts
  • Added new Halloween Contracts as part of the Treat Hunt event
  • Fixed an issue where the damage values earned on Contracts could be broken, showing large negative scores
Specializations

Cloaking Device

  • Fixed an issue introduced in 4.4 that caused refraction effects like cloaking, and parts of the dematerialize effect, to not be visible when the effect quality is set to medium

Dematerializer

  • Fixed an issue where environmental kills were not detected when the dematerialized ‘floor’ was an air vent or other small prop
UI
  • Fixed an issue where players might not be able to equip an item immediately after purchasing it
  • Fixed various issues where player outlines could have the wrong color
  • Fixed an occasional issue where new players could become stuck in the account linking flow
  • Fixed an issue where the Contract screen would unlock at the wrong time for new players during the first-time user experience
Sponsors
  • Increased the number of Fans that can be earned by 50% to 100%, depending on the action type
  • Disabled the ability to earn Fans with the Healing Beam
Dev Note: We’ve disabled the earning of Fans via the Healing Beam as it was too easy for players to exploit this mechanic to farm Fans, at the cost of good, competitive matches. We only want Fans to be earnable for actions that can be completed regardless of the Contestant setup.
VRs
  • Increased the VR cap from 3000 to 5000
Weapons

Alternate Scopes

  • Fixed an issue where weapons with an attached sight could have a skewed pose when aiming down sights, causing the sight to be misaligned with where the weapon is aimed

MP1st as always will update our readers when the next update is dropped soon.

While no patch notes have been released just yet, the official Payday blog posted some small info on what today’s update should include. Check out the details below.

Hello Heisters!

For this week’s blog, we’re walking through the upcoming update, as is customary. You can watch the most recent Dev Update if you’d rather watch than read. We’ll go through them in roughly the same order as the video, so it’s easy to follow.

Let’s start at the updated main menu. The main menu itself has been given a new background, one that doubles as the lobby screen where you’ll see all players in your crew lined up, on top of NYC.

We’ve struggled a bit with communicating to all of our players, since not everyone uses the same platform. So we’ve added a news widget here as well, it’ll let us inform you of any upcoming or ongoing events, as well as sales, new content and more, make sure to keep an eye on it.

Additionally, the social menu has been improved, it’s much easier to navigate the menus and to manage your friends and invites.

Next the Server Browser, a part of the original promise of Operation Medic Bag, it’s a big feature and a huge departure from how the game worked at launch and until now. It lets you filter ongoing games for difficulty, tactics (stealth/loud/any), even filter out heists you’re not in the mood for, or create your own game using those same settings.

In this update, we’re getting in-game text chat and in-game VoIP(v1) for all platforms, and cross-platform.

For now, the VoIP(v1) is active in the lobby screen and in-game. It is not active in menus. It will be enabled by default in its first version – if you’re not a “VoIP kinda person,” keep that in mind.

If they still won’t behave, and you created the lobby – there’s now a kick feature. A feature we ask everyone to please use it responsibly. We will be keeping an eye on excessive and malicious use of this feature. It’s not a great experience to get randomly kicked for no reason, so if you don’t want to play with strangers, you can always set the game to friends-only.

For those who enjoy both playing and watching PAYDAY, there will be a new Twitch Drop campaign, with mask, stickers and charm. Additionally, we’ll be adding a Halloween mask for all players.

Not wanting to be outdone, the wonderful champions in the animation team has been filling out our inspect animations. Look how beautiful they are! LOOK!

And lastly, the Year 1 Edition, likely, if you are reading this, and you know someone who hasn’t tried PAYDAY 3 yet, this is a great chance! That said, it’s a special edition allowing new players to catch up with the full first year’s worth of content, available to purchase when the next Update goes live.

We will update this post as soon as possible when the proper patch notes are released.

# Director’s Comment

The Dev Team has listened to community feedback on the ‘Twisted Worship’ skin and has updated its design. To accommodate Descendants who prefer the original design, we’ve decided to keep the existing ‘Twisted Worship’ skin unchanged for those who own it and to provide the redesigned ‘Twisted Worship SE’ body skin as an additional option. If you already own ‘Twisted Worship,’ you will receive the ‘Twisted Worship SE’ body skin. For purchases made after the update, both the original ‘Twisted Worship’ and the ‘Twisted Worship SE’ will be available.

The Dev Team is committed to providing skins that satisfy you. The adjustments to ‘Twisted Worship’ reflect community feedback; however, there may be practical limitations in addressing feedback for every skin. Metaphor: ReFantazio Update 1.009 Out, Now Lets You Turn Off Dash Blur

Metaphor: ReFantazio update 1.009 has been released, which seems to come with a new visual option.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Update 1.009 Patch Notes

Update: The full patch notes are now live!

  • New ON/OFF toggle setting for motion blur animation when dashing.

*Dash effects setting can be changed from SETTINGS > Dash Effects.

  • Fixed an issue where a quest in the Catacombs cannot be completed under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where progression is blocked when enemies with status ailments conduct certain actions.
  • Expedited the animation when displaying the popularity ranking.
  • Fixed other minor bugs.

Original Story:

At the moment, Atlus has yet to release any official patch notes for this update. However, from our testing, we have found that there is now a new option in the settings that allows you to turn off dash effects, which is the motion blur you get while dashing. Additionally, though we aren’t 100% certain, it does appear that the game does run at a smoother framerate on the PS5 than it did before this update. We might be wrong, though performance was something that many have pointed out. The PS5 version doesn’t have any major dips, though it did look less smoother compared to the PS4 version. There doesn’t appear to be any additional options beyond the Dash one, for those hoping for PS5 Pro support, though that doesn’t mean it’s not there with this update if it’s simply to allow PSSR support.

Either way, we’re glad to see that Atlus is improving the game further, especially with the new dash effect option.

Should Atlus release any official notes, we’ll be sure to update the story above with them. As for those wondering when our review will hit the site, expect it soon!

It’s been nearly a decade since Dontnod’s Life is Strange hit the episodic adventure game scene with the story of young Max Caulfield, a high-school photography student with the supernatural ability to rewind time. Throughout the original game’s compelling story, players watched their socially inept protagonist fight against fate in a heavy narrative that dealt with love, loss, suicide, grief, and murder. After the first game’s success, developer Deck Nine was quickly tasked with creating a prequel centering around Max’s friend and potential love interest Chloe, further fleshing out the events that led up to the original game’s central plot points. Dontnod themselves went on to develop a sequel in the greater universe of Life is Strange, and Max’s story was seemingly left behind.

Flash forward to today, and Deck Nine has effectively taken over as lead developer on the franchise. After nine long years, they’ve finally decided to return to our beloved photographer and pick up her tale at Caledon University, a prestigious college in Vermont where she’s been working as a photographer-in-residence. She has new friends, new powers, and a new outlook on life, but how do they stack up against the qualities of the first game that got players to fall in love with her to begin with? After my time with Life is Strange: Double Exposure, I am pleased to say that despite some wobbly plot points and a somewhat rushed ending, I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience stepping back into Max’s shoes and seeing how the series has evolved since the mid-2010s.

The Road(s) Ahead

Double Exposure’s gameplay centers around a fascinating new power. The death of one of Max’s closest friends reawakens her long-dormant abilities, but instead of rewinding time, Max now finds herself capable of jumping between two parallel timelines: one where her companion was killed and another where she survived. While the reality-swapping ability is used in a limited scope early on, later chapters of the game quickly open themselves up to possibility, allowing you to solve all sorts of puzzles through thoughtful hops back and forth through the rift between the two worlds. Max also possesses the power to peek into the other side without actually swapping over, which enables her to eavesdrop on private conversations and gain intel she might not have access to otherwise. This central gameplay loop feels well thought out, though it admittedly never crosses the threshold to allow for truly creative problem-solving. The story the team wants to tell is still rather linear. Unfortunately, that holds the mechanic back from ever reaching its fullest potential.

Layered beneath this new power is Life is Strange’s signature decision-heavy gameplay. Throughout the game’s roughly eight-to-ten-hour playtime, you’ll be asked to make several important choices that will affect how the story plays out in significant ways. These range from small personal changes for Max such as romance options to heavy decisions that can alter the path forward entirely. Cradled in the gaps of these weighty moments are numerous smaller stories and dialogue trees that help to flesh out the game’s universe and give you an intimate peek into the lives and psyches of Caledon’s diverse cast of characters. I found myself regularly going out of my way to pick up little flourishing details wherever possible, even going so far as to get invested in a group of undergrads’ intense game of assassin that transformed into a charming little love story. This content, while entirely optional, breathes life into the world that Max inhabits and feeds into the sense that life on campus doesn’t stop when you leave a scene. The game rewards you for paying attention and finding secrets by providing payoffs to a lot of these little storylines, and I appreciate that at no point are you required to pay attention to them if you’d rather indulge in a self-centered playthrough.

The Rule of Fifths

Double Exposure’s main narrative follows a fairly standard five-episode structure, each with some sort of revelation or twist to leave you eager to hop into the next. The early game does a phenomenal job of building a strong sense of intrigue and mystery. The odd circumstances surrounding the death of Max’s close friend combined with the mysterious return of her unique abilities make for a murky lake begging to be dragged. Every new factoid adds to the suspense, ultimately culminating in a whirlwind final act. It’s a shame, then, that the game’s finale feels a little undercooked in comparison to everything set up before it. Many of the answers to the questions I found myself asking during my playthrough were underwhelming, and the game’s strongest twists made themselves apparent far earlier in the experience. Additionally, the reveal that acts as the impetus for the events at the end of the game feels almost like a throwaway. It’s a bit of a letdown given the compelling foundation the game set early on.

What the last episode lacks in epiphanies, however, it makes up for in heart. Without spoiling too much, episode five primarily acts as a character study, giving Max and her friends ample room for self-reflection and a facsimile of Socratic dialogue on whether supernatural capabilities should—or even if they can—be used to change the outcome of reality. It’s clear that Deck Nine intends to build a larger narrative around this universe that’s been a decade in the making, and I applaud their ambition. It’ll take some time and further sequels to conclusively say whether such an endeavor will pan out. Either way, the more intimate scope of Double Exposure’s writing in its final hours was satisfying enough to come away with a positive opinion of the overall tale this game wanted to tell.

A Picture Worth a Thousand Words

Deck Nine proved their ability to evolve on Life is Strange’s stylized realism with their last title, True Colors, and they’ve gone above and beyond for this latest entry. Half of the reason I found Caledon so interesting to explore was the allure contained in each of its carefully painted environments. The campus feels genuinely lived-in: scattered stationery, cluttered bulletin boards, and sticker-studded backpacks are littered throughout nearly every room. The cozy glow of Max’s fireplace at her home illuminates her airy living area and messy kitchen. It stands in stark contrast to the cold sunlight of the snow-covered quad, which bounces off the brick walls of the Fine Art Building’s imposing exterior. Little touches of real-world detail dance in tandem with the game’s painted objects to cover a canvas that I loved existing in. I found little to no artistic shortcomings in my thorough search of this world’s every nook and cranny.

Facial animations have also been improved tremendously from previous entries. Every single interaction between characters feels hand-crafted, barring random conversations between unnamed extras. I could read the subtleties of Max’s nervous attraction when speaking to characters she could romance, and I felt a genuine connection in the heartfelt conversations between close friends. These little details go a long way when 90 percent of the game centers around them. Deck Nine clearly understood the importance of this. It not only made the required interactions enjoyable and easy to tune into, but it also incentivized me to seek out the game’s plethora of optional dialogues to soak up every bit of hard work the team put into making them feel worth my time.

It bears mentioning that years of practice have also helped the language in Double Exposure to feel much more natural than in previous entries. Sure, Max is still dorky and awkward, but her characterization is intentional as opposed to a byproduct of poor writing. None of the cast ever veers too far into Hollywood college student stereotypes. Text messages and social media posts available to view on Max’s phone all feel natural, and each character uses modern lingo and euphemisms without triggering any sort of excessive cringe from the reader. Granted, the series has always been about artsy kids written by artsy kids, so certain audiences might not find themselves able to resonate with the setting as a whole. If you’ve ever enjoyed the world of Life is Strange and the eccentric characters within it, though, they’re written better than ever before here.

Verdict

Life is Strange: Double Exposure’s return to Max Caulfield is one I would ultimately consider a success. While a few distinct choices hold it back from reaching any all-time heights, its heartwarming friendships and multifaceted story on love and loss kept me invested all the way through to its conclusion. I believe that if everything goes Deck Nine’s way, this game will be viewed as one part of a greater chronicle down the line. Given everything I experienced in my time with Double Exposure, I can safely say that the team deserves the chance to reach for their full vision and bring it to reality, however that may manifest. In the meantime, it’s worth getting in on the series’ new ground floor with Double Exposure, if for no other reason than to be reminded that real friendship is complicated, and the bigger picture of any relationship can only come into focus with trust, honesty, and forgiveness. Loneliness’s destructive vortex can turn any of us into a monster, but together, we can weather the storm.

Score: 8/10

Pros:

  • A deeply personal story full of interpersonal nuance
  • Gorgeous art, environments, and facial animations
  • A killer soundtrack
  • Plenty of intriguing side stories

Cons:

  • A lackluster final reveal
  • Unique mechanics never live up to their full potential
  • Fairly repetitive and simple core gameplay

Dying Light: The Beast Director Says PS5 Pro’s PSSR Could Be More Important Than GPU Boost

The PlayStation 5 Pro is just nine days from release, but many gamers have been hesitant about it due to its high price. However, for developers like Techland, the console’s new features — especially its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology – might just be enough to justify the console’s high price point.

In a recent interview with GamingBolt, Dying Light: The Beast director Tymon Smektała shared his thoughts on the potential of the PlayStation 5 Pro and its PSSR technology. He said,

We’re just starting to discover the full capabilities of PS5 Pro, but it’s already exciting as it gives us a lot more flexibility with graphics and performance. The boost in GPU will allow us to push visual fidelity, especially with complex environmental details like weather effects, which are very core to Dying Light: The Beast’s experience.

This kind of power also means generally smoother gameplay at higher resolutions, and that’s something very important for a game like ours, where the highest level of immersion is of utmost importance.

Smektala also believes that the PSSR feature could become even more significant in the long term, explaining,

Sony’s PSSR is a substantial push for the supersampling tech that other companies are experimenting with. It’s a great initiative as, in the future, this can allow developers to focus slightly less on performance and have bigger creative liberty. If what Sony is proposing will become a new standard, then PSSR could potentially turn out to be even more important than the direct increase in GPU power that the console delivers.

While Techland hasn’t officially confirmed if Dying Light: The Beast will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro, Smektala’s comments make it seem very likely. The PS5 Pro’s 45% GPU boost, improved ray tracing, and PSSR technology could be ideal for a game as visually demanding as Dying Light: The Beast.

Currently, over 80 PS5 Pro-enhanced games are already optimized to showcase the console’s capabilities when it launches on November 7, 2024, including major titles like Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

Dying Light: The Beast is currently in development at Techland and set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The exact date is yet to be announced, but we now know Kyle Crane’s return could benefit from PS5 Pro enhancements when the time comes.

Concord Developer Firewalk Studios Shuts Down; Game Permanently Sunsets

This September, Sony pulled the Concord servers mere weeks after the game’s release due to super low playercounts. While the PlayStation division was contemplating on their options back then, it seems they’ve finally decided on that, and it’s to shut down the game permanently, and also the developer. Firewalk Studios as well.

While it sounded like Sony was pivoting Concord to be a free-to-play title, the company decided to not pursue that road, and instead decided to shut down Concord.

In a letter on the official Sony Interactive website, PlayStation’s Co-CEO Hermen Hulst penned a later about the closure. Here’s the excerpt regarding Concord and Firelwak.

Concord Shuts Down Permanently, as the Developer Closes Its Doors

Regarding Firewalk, as announced in early September (An Important Update on Concord), certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline. We have spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options.

After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio.   I want to thank all of Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit and dedication.

Firewalk Studios also penned a letter to gamers as the devs sign off.

Firewalk is signing off one last time.

Firewalk began with the idea of bringing the joy of multiplayer to a larger audience. Along the way we assembled an incredible team who were able to:
– Navigate growing a new startup into a team during a global pandemic: Firewalk was founded in 2018 and was very small for its first couple years, only entering full Production in 2022.

– Build a new, customized next-generation FPS engine in Unreal 4 -> 5, delivering top-tier gameplay feel, beautiful worlds, and a performant 60fps technical experience on a stable and scalable backend on PS5 and PC to hundreds of thousands of players in our beta.

– Manage an acquisition / integration while readying technical and preliminary tests.

– And ultimately ship and deliver a great FPS experience to players- even if it landed much more narrowly than hoped against a heavily consolidated market.

We took some risks along the way – marrying aspects of card battlers and fighting games with first-person-shooters – and although some of these and other aspects of the IP didn’t land as we hoped, the idea of putting new things into the world is critical to pushing the medium forward.

In the same letter posted by Hulst, he also announced that Neon Koi, a first-party mobile developer, has also closed up shop.

There’s a lot of learnings to be had with Concord. Did it fail due to its character design? Maybe. Perhaps poor marketing? That could be it as well. Unfortunately for Firewalk, Concord’s failure is one that’s history-making, though not in a good way. In all my years gaming, I have never seen a game — regardless if it’s multiplayer or not — flop this hard.

Sony does have a shot at redemption though, and that’s with Bungie’s Marathon, which seems to be due for release sometime next year.

Some objects require an in-game plan to be learned in order to gain access, while other items are only unlocked for a single, specified character. All exclusive items are character-bound, and cannot be dropped or traded with other players. The Atomic Shop is accessible at any time from the main menu, as well as the pause screen after leaving Vault 76 for the first time.

That’s it for this week’s refresh. Is there anything in particular that interests you?

If not, there’s always next week, which we’ll have covered, so be sure to check again next Tuesday!
