Behaviour Interactive Talks Meet Your Maker – Reception, What’s Next, Player Feedback and More

In case you didn’t know, Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has another game out that just got its first major content drop, and I’m, of course, referring to Meet Your Maker. With the launch of Sector 1: Dreadshore, MP1st recently got the chance to interview Behaviour about Meet Your Maker, where we ask about player feedback, reception and what’s next.

Answering our questions is Senior Creative Director Ash Pannell.

MP1st: Can you introduce yourself to our readers and talk about some of the specifics from your role in Meet Your Maker?

Hello, Custodians! My name is Ash Pannell and I’m the Senior Creative Director of Meet Your Maker. I oversee the creative direction of the game, working closely with the development team to shape its vision, gameplay mechanics, and overall player experience. I collaborate on designing new environments, Custodians, traps, and guards, ensuring they are fun and align with the game’s post-apocalyptic atmosphere and unique blend of building and raiding gameplay. I also work closely with the teams responsible for gathering player feedback, evaluating the game’s performance, and planning for future content updates and expansions.

MP1st: How did the idea behind the genesis of Meet Your Maker appeared? Was there any inspiration from movies, any trigger to realize this post-apocalyptic atmosphere where building and raiding co-exist?

Pannell: The genesis of Meet Your Maker was born from a desire to create a post-apocalyptic world where building and raiding coexist in a thrilling and strategic way. We drew inspiration from various sources, including movies, literature, and gaming and even childhood games like building forts in the garden. These influences, combined with our passion for immersive gameplay experiences, sparked the concept of Meet Your Maker, where players become the Custodians of the Chimera and engage in building amazing deathtraps and challenging Players to play your creations.

Meet Your Maker Sector 1: Dreadshore Review

MP1st: A few months after release, what is your outlook on the game? Is Meet Your Maker performing according to expected, is the player base where you expected it to be, or do you feel like there’s still room to grow?

Pannell: The last few months have been full of key learnings for us. While we’re pleased with the positive reception of Meet Your Maker, we truly feel like the best has yet to come. It’s a game of so many possibilities and we are excited to hone this community based game into something special.

Just like we’ve shared through our latest content update Sector 1 : Dreadshore, we have exciting plans to expand the game’s content, introduce new features or ways to play the game and reach a broader audience. There is still significant room for growth for Meet Your Maker and the community feedback will help the game evolve where it needs to be.

MP1st. Bringing Meet Your Maker to PS Plus was a move that worked according to expectations? Any plans to bring Meet Your Maker into Xbox Game Pass as well?

Pannell: Bringing Meet Your Maker to PS Plus was a fantastic opportunity for us to reach a wide audience and introduce players to the world of Meet Your Maker at launch. This partnership helped us reach a milestone of having 1 million players try our game and we’re proud of that achievement!

As for Xbox Game Pass, we are actively exploring opportunities to expand the availability of Meet Your Maker to reach even more players. While I can’t share specific details at this time, we are committed to exploring partnerships and platforms that align with our vision for the game and offer greater accessibility to players worldwide.

MP1st: According to player feedback, what was the most challenging gameplay aspect where the development team knew they had (or still have) to work upon? And what is your opinion on the recurrent topic of killboxes, that a part of the community seems to complain about?

Pannell: Player feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and it has helped us identify areas for improvement and refinement. One aspect that the development team recognized as challenging was the balancing of ranking and, as you mentioned, killboxes. We’ve been actively working to ensure that both Raiders and Builders have balanced opportunities for success and that the gameplay feels fair and engaging for all players.

Regarding the recurrent topic of killboxes,we have heard the feedback from players that often the “difficulty” of an outpost defines the “quality” of an outpost, and we are actively looking at ways of not only tweaking our existing systems but also adding new difficulty features that will help regulate player’s experiences. This would better steer them to what they do want and not what they do not want, so stay tuned for updates moving forward. Not all Builders are experienced Raiders, or interested in Raiding, and we want them to be able to experience the game in the way that they prefer. For now, if you do encounter an Outpost that simply isn’t fun for you, you’re not required to complete it and can move on to an Outpost that is more appealing.

meet your maker reception

MP1st: What was the most requested feature after launch? Were players requesting a new environment, new Custodians, or something other?

Pannell: After the launch of Meet Your Maker, we received a wide range of player requests and suggestions.
I would say the most requested feature was new content as a whole. Whether it be new traps, mods, building materials, Custodian, guards… our players voiced their desire of wanting new tools to experiment with. After that, being able to reactivate outposts online indefinitely after level 10 was highly requested.

As you can imagine, our roadmap plans on releasing a lot more content and features than the first major update we launched this week with Dreadshore but I can’t get into the details of that just yet. We appreciate the passion and ideas shared by our community, and we’re actively considering these requests as we plan future content updates.

MP1st: Sector 1: Dreadshore brings a new ominous environment. Was this backdrop easily settled upon or do you feel like there were other valuable concepts thrown around, possibly saved for subsequent expansions?

Pannell:: The creation of Dreadshore’s ominous environment was an exciting process that involved careful consideration and exploration of various concepts. We wanted to take the player to a completely different vibe and feeling. Dreadshore’s driving rain and dark and moody aesthetic are completely different to that of the Red Sands. The changes to the lighting and atmosphere change the mood for Raiders and give Builders a totally new narrative tool to set their levels.

While the final decision on Dreadshore’s backdrop came relatively easily, there were indeed other valuable concepts that were considered and explored. We’ve saved these concepts for subsequent content updates to ensure a rich and divere range of environments for players to experience in the future. Each environment we introduce in Meet Your Maker is designed to expand the game’s universe and make players discover a new narrative of this post-apocalyptic world.

MP1st: The new Custodian is focused on the use defensive weaponry. How do you feel the reception will be, in terms of engagement comparing to the existing Custodians focused on melee and ranged combat?

Pannell: The introduction of Nautilus explores a defensive-gameplay style we haven’t seen in Meet Your Maker yet. All 3 perks greatly buff the Arc Barrier’s capabilities. It adds perks to players who love a defensive weapon.

We anticipate that players will embrace the new Custodian’s unique playstyle and find it engaging, especially those who enjoy a more defensive approach. While the existing Custodians focused on melee and ranged combat have their dedicated fan base, we believe the new Custodian’s defensive abilities will provide a compelling alternative that appeals to a specific playstyle.

Your Maker update 1.05

MP1st: The new Sentry Beam trap and Ravager guard are properly devilish. Personally, I found that combining various quantities of these two in a small area results in chaotic and almost inescapable shootouts. Do you feel like players could potentially exploit this combination and ignore the previous options?

Pannell: The sentry beam is powerful but the fact that it is capable of destroying other traps and guards means dropping it everywhere is a big risk as the clever raider can easily convince it destroy itself. The introduction of powerful traps like the Sentry Beam and guards like the Ravager is intended to shake up the gameplay dynamics and provide new strategic options for both Builders and Raiders. While combining multiple Sentry Beam traps and Ravager guards in a confined area can create intense and challenging encounters, we know that every Outpost can be successfully raided with the right strategy. And we’ve made sure to give the necessary arsenal to Raiders so they can overcome any challenges they may face while venturing in an Outpost.

MP1st: Do you have additional content already planned for the long run? Any details you may share with us at this point?

Pannell: For this update you need to bring your umbrella, the next one may require something warmer….

Meet Your Maker is out now on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. You can read our review of Sector 1: Dreadshore here.

Battlebit Remastered Dev Update Talks About Future Plans; Mentions DDoS Attacks During Early Access Phase

BattleBit Remastered, the recent smash hit FPS title by SgtOkiDoki, just got a dev update that outlined future plans for the game. BattleBit Remastered’s future plans were discussed alongside a sneak peek at a map rework as well as a brief discussion on past DDoS attempts made on the game’s servers.

According to the dev post, the game had been under severe Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks during the game’s Early Access period, with the goal to interrupt content creators and players from enjoying the game. The devs decided not to report on the attacks publicly until the weakness in the game’s firewall was patched, and servers are now patched to protect it from the same type of attack.

As for future plans, here’s everything that the devs have in mind:

  • Continue applying bug fixes and add more quality of life improvements.
  • Recruit a team that specializes in detecting cheats and weeding out possible cheaters. (We have other long-term plans for non-rage cheaters but will announce them later on)
  • Add new weapons, gadgets, maps, and remakes of existing maps.
  • Introduce New Game Modes
  • Introduce community servers with dedicated game modes, maps, and tweaked game mode rules based on the admin’s preference.

The devs will also discuss with the community directly every Saturday on Twitch and Discord to get feedback on issues, changes, and more.

Finally, the report ended with some screenshots of the reworked Multu-Islands map.

BattleBit Remastered is currently available on PC via Steam.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Mod Adds Spider-Punk Suit and Outline Effects to Game

If you’ve recently watched Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, then you’re probably familiar with the distinct and unique art style of the movie’s different characters, particularly when it comes to Spider-Punk, a punk British version of Spider-Man that is known for his colorful outlines throughout the film. One modder managed to turn Spider-Punk into a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales mod that lets players swing around as the eccentric webslinger himself.

You can check out footage of the mod below:

According to the tweet, not one, but two modders had worked on everything you’re seeing in the footage. Twitter user @DeadGunned made the character model for Spider-Punk while @GalanArtworks added the outline effect surrounding the model. The effect is still a work in progress, but it manages to capture the colorful and eye-popping effect that you’d see around Hobie Brown in Across the Spider-Verse.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, launches exclusively on PS5 this October 20, so until we get a PC version, modders will have to make do with older games such as Miles Morales to bring other Spider-Verse characters to life.

Possible Diablo 4 Bug Causes Hardcore Player Deaths by Treasure Goblins

A new potential Diablo 4 bug has cropped up, and this one’s particularly nasty for Hardcore players. The suspected bug involves the Treasure Goblin, a loot pinata in Diablo 4 that drops loot and gold when killed. Normally, this makes Treasure Goblins sought after, with players wanting to take them down before they flee for those sweet rewards. It turns out, however, that the possible bug may cause players to die after killing certain Treasure Goblins.

Check out this clip by Killthuzad on Twitch, where the interaction occurs:

What you’re seeing is Killthuzad’s character dying from a Treasure Goblin’s Death Pulse. Normally, Treasure Goblins do no damage, as they’re pacifists in-game, but certain Treasure Goblins can spawn with Death Pulse, an effect that unleashes a wave of damage upon being killed. Normally, a Death Pulse isn’t enough to kill a player, much less a high-level Hardcore player who’s likely very careful with how they play the game, which is why many are claiming this interaction to be a bug of some kind.

A thread on the Blizzard forums was made surrounding the topic, and while a few people have chimed in on their experiences with the matter. Here are some of the testimonies from that thread:

The same thing just happened to me. I was doing T26 nighmtmare with my 76 Necro and after killing the treassure goblin i instantz died. I am a casual player and loosing 86 hours to such a bug is really bad… is there anz way?

– Chillout

HOLY I have been looking for exactly this. I lost my lvl 100 HC Rogue a couple days ago and watched the replay dozens of times trying to figure out what went wrong. This is 100% it! Clip below showing the exact same thing happening to me.

My rogue had 14k+ hp, tons of dmg reduction and normally the death pulses do nothing to me. Kill the goblin thinking he’s an easy target for some loot and INSTAKILLED 100-0 no warning.

I doubt we get any help here but other people should definitely be aware. RIP to us all :frowning:

forum won’t let me post a link because it’s my first post here… I have a clip saved on twitch on twitch dot tv fw-slash unclemumble showing the death

– UncleMumble

Blizzard has yet to comment on the thread or on the interaction as a whole.

Cities: Skylines 2 Gameplay Deep Dive Details the Public and Cargo Transportation

Following the previously revealed roadmap, Paradox Interactive has unleashed yet another Cities: Skylines 2 gameplay deep dive video which highlights public and cargo transportation. The developers break down the numerous forms of transportation for people and cargo available in the city builder game.

Watch the latest Cities: Skylines 2 gameplay deep dive video right here:

Public transportations include taxis, buses, trains, trams, as well as air and water transportation systems. Buses use road connections whereas the trains need to be connected between the city and the existing train infrastructure on the map. Ships are useful in cities with large open waters connected to the edge. Airplanes are used to connect your city with the rest of the world through an airport of course.

Apart from public transportation, companies can order resources through delivery trucks and vans thanks to the cargo transportation options. You can set up cargo lines using trains, ships, and airplanes. You can find everything discussed in the video, and more details right here.

Cities: Skylines 2 is set to launch October 24, 2023, for Xbox Series X|S (and on Xbox Game Pass), PS5, and PC.

Final Fantasy 16 Dev CBU3 Open to Doing More Final Fantasy Games in the Future

If you liked what you’ve played of Final Fantasy 16 so far and was hoping that the dev team behind it craft more games in the franchise, we have some good news for you! Creative Business Unit 3 (the Square Enix studio that developed FF16) is open to doing more Final Fantasy games in the future.

This was revealed by Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) in a recent fan meet & greet event in Malaysia In it, Yoshi-P shared that the studio “isn’t done” with Final Fantasy 16 just yet (could mean DLC or maybe the PC port), and that they’re open to making more Final Fantasy games.

https://streamable.com/ut4s7l

In addition to that, Yoshi-P also mentioned that more Final Fantasy 14 content is on the way, which we’ve gathered as much given the game’s popularity.

Speaking of Yoshi-P’s visit to Malaysia, the video game producer was greeted at the airport with a bouquet of flowers touting Final Fantasy 16’s three-million units sold sales figure, which it managed to do in just under a week.

Are you happy with the news that we could potentially see more Final Fantasy games developed by CBU3? If you haven’t played the game yet, go read our review to see why it’s one of the best games of the year.

Thanks, kaoru_kajiura!

XDefiant Isn’t a Call of Duty Killer, Nor Does It Need to Be

The XDefiant Open Beta has sadly come to an end, and while the team is undoubtedly working hard and looking through all the provided feedback, one thing that has somewhat stuck out for us from those who have played it is the stark comparison being made between it, and the Call of Duty franchise. While XDefiant definitely shares plenty of similarities to draw that comparison (not to mention its Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, was the previous EP of the Call of Duty franchise), one thing is certain…and that’s it’s not a “Call of Duty killer” — and that’s okay because it was never trying to be.

Look, I won’t beat around the bush and try and claim that XDefiant didn’t feel like Call of Duty in some ways based on the beta. In fact, Alex (MP1st’s Editor-in-Chief) and I have spoken on several occasions throughout all the past playtests on how XDefiant reminds us of the “classic” Call of Duty. That’s mostly due to the more arcade style of movement when stacking it with the more weighted and “realistic” movement of modern COD, as well as the focus on arena-based maps.

xdefiant release date

It also is being seen as an alternative because, for those who have been following all the recent Call of Duty drama, with Warzone 1 shutting down, to the NICKMERCS stuff, and Activision seemingly focusing more on battle royale than the traditional 6v6 experience, that made the franchise what it is today, the community is rather shaken up, with some looking for alternatives to play. XDefiant just so happens to be that title many are talking about due to some of the abovementioned reasons and other similarities (like gun customization that acts the same as Call of Duty’s Gunsmith, instant respawn, and more).

Sure, it could be a twitch shooter to rival that of the behemoth franchise, but just because it shares some similarities with Call of Duty doesn’t mean it’s out to kill it. Far from it, as even the game’s own Executive Producer, Mark Rubin wants to move away from this opinion that their game is a Call of Duty killer.

I think what most need to understand is that the gaming space is massive and has plenty of room for other games to compete. Look at Fortnite, a battle royale that dwarfs many others in its genre, yet plenty can still strive and survive. Apex Legends and Warzone are two examples of that, yet you would never call them “Fortnite” killers just because they’re all battle royales and, to a degree, chase the same audience.

Not every game out there tries to kill its competition because that would likely mean failure. It’s not a metric anyone uses to gauge success because if so, then games like Apex Legends and Warzone might as well just shut down since they’ll likely never reach the player base of Fortnite. That’s just not how that works. Games (and their player bases) can co-exist even if they’re in the same genre and subgenre — which the aforementioned battle royale games have proven throughout the years.

Games of the same genre can exist and flourish without trying to kill one another.

xdefiant post launch

Another reason why XDefiant isn’t a COD Killer, or more accurately, shouldn’t be viewed as one, is because that immediately puts you into a mindset that it’s trying to do just that. There are many different mechanics that XDefiant is trying to deliver, some of which are on the faction/hero side of it and others on the Competitive aspect. But if you go into this thinking of Call of Duty, you sort of gloss over some of those and other things.

I mean, the main similarities are: both offer 6v6 gameplay, fast-paced with respawns instantaneous, movement sort of feels like old Call of Duty games and basically that’s it. The fact that there are former Call of Duty devs working on it doesn’t really make the gameplay similar. The controls are sort of similar only because almost all shooters employ the same control layout. But basically, that’s it.

With the Cod Killer mindset, why focus on what makes XDefiant different when you’re already trying to compare it to Call of Duty? This sets you up for disappointment if something doesn’t live or exceed expectations. That’s not me saying that XDefiant is worse or better than Call of Duty; that’s just me saying to judge the game for what it is, not for what it isn’t.

If you’ve followed the team over at Ubisoft San Francisco, then you’d probably know by now that this is a game that’s trying to be the best at what it wants to be while building a supportive community, ensuring that as much transparency is shared between them, and the studio. It feels like the devs want XDefiant to be the best 6v6 arcade first-person shooter on the market, which happens to be a field dominated by the Call of Duty franchise.

XDefiant Open Session Beta

But again, don’t look at this as a challenger set on changing the game. Instead, I like to think that XDefiant will blossom into a suitable alternative to play when I’ve grown bored of COD, and vice versa. In fact, many already do this in the Battle Royale genre, alternating between Apex, Warzone, and Fortnite as the seasons roll out for each. There’s plenty of content between all of them to keep players happy, and even when a season doesn’t interest you, or you’ve done all there is to be done, you may find solace in one of the other games.

XDefiant could be that COD alternative, but don’t get that confused with killer. Games can share similarities, they can be compared, obviously, but it’s clear they aren’t trying to be each other, or beat out one another. No replacements, just potentially a perfect alternative to play when you’re looking for something similar, but also very different.

While we can’t say for certain right this moment whether XDefiant will succeed or not (though the beta did seem like a success given the number of players asking for an extension), if this game does end up flopping for whatever reason, it won’t be because it tried to take on Call of Duty.

Twitter Feed Down and Not Refreshing and Here’s Why

Following Twitter’s server outage earlier today, some might be wondering why even if they can login, their Twitter feed is down and not refreshing starting this July 1. If so, well, we have some bad news for you.

Twitter Feed Down and Not Refreshing This July 1:

Don’t bother searching for a fix, as your Twitter feed isn’t refreshing due to a change by billionaire owner Elon Musk imposing rate limit, which means you have a limited number of times you can read new tweets! No, I am not joking. We’ve included the announcement tweet (and screenshot in case it won’t load for you given the new limits).

Gyazo

Why is Musk doing this? Well, while he hasn’t specifically said it’s due to the Twitter servers, a recent article (via Engadget) mentions how Twitter (read: Musk) doesn’t want to pay for Google Cloud servers.

As you can imagine, there is no end time/date for this, so if you find someone wondering what happened, just direct them to this article.

No word on whether this is permanent and for how long. If I were you, you might want to start looking for another social media platform for news, though that’s easier said than done. We’ll post an update whether this changes or if Elon comes to his sense.

As for MP1st, we are already thinking of alternatives. While we have our Facebook page, we do want something “snappier” when it comes to sharing our content. If anyone has suggestions, leave a comment below and let us know.

Behaviour Interactive “Pleased” With Meet Your Maker Reception, Says “Best Is Yet to Come”

While Behaviour Interactive is mostly known for its hit multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight, the studio released an all-new game this year titled “Meet Your Maker.” Released in April, Meet Your Maker also launched the same day as part of the April PlayStation Plus free games, which should have helped the game reach a wider audience. Now, the question here is: did it work?

Speaking to MP1st, we asked Behaviour Interactive that question, and while we didn’t get any specific numbers, Creative Director Ash Pannell did say that they were “pleased” with the positive reception.

MP1st: A few months after release, what is your outlook on the game? Is Meet Your Maker performing according as expected, is the player base where you expected it to be, or do you feel like there’s still room to grow?

Pannell: The last few months have been full of key learnings for us. While we’re pleased with the positive reception of Meet Your Maker, we truly feel like the best has yet to come. It’s a game of so many possibilities and we are excited to hone this community based game into something special.

Just like we’ve shared through our latest content update Sector 1: Dreadshore, we have exciting plans to expand the game’s content, introduce new features or ways to play the game and reach a broader audience. There is still significant room for growth for Meet Your Maker and the community feedback will help the game evolve where it needs to be.

In case you didn’t know, the game’s first DLC, Sector 1: Dreadshore is now out, and you can read our review here, where we state, “Sector 1: Dreadshore builds upon this long-term goal, and while it’s not a huge expansion, having a new grim environment and a new Custodian are trump cards that add both mechanical variety and cosmetic flair. Meet Your Maker fans should dive into this new landscape without reservations, hoping that this is the first of many for a unique game.”

Stay tuned to our full chat with Behaviour Interactive soon.
