During today’s Warframe devstream #169, Digital Extremes pulled a rabbit out of its hat, as the studio out of nowhere sprung our first look at Soulframe gameplay!
Clocking in at just three minutes, this is our first look at the medieval game. While Digital Extremes has already said that players shouldn’t expect gameplay to be similar to Dark Souls or other FromSoftware titles, it does give off that vibe. Don’t believe me? Give it a watch and judge for yourself.
Again, don’t expect the gameplay to be similar to a Souls game, even if what we’ve seen so far looks to be that way.
For more on Soulframe, head on over here for our interview with the dev team regarding its design, lore and more.
Soulframe has no release date set, but is being developed for both consoles and PCs.
With Counter-Strike 2 now officially announced, Valve has published a few gameplay videos that highlight some of the major overhauls to the game over CS:GO. These include VFX improvements, better graphics, and as showcased in the announcement tweet, more dynamic smoke grenades, among other things.
You can find the three new YouTube videos below:
Aside from the graphical improvements to the game, CS2 will also make general gameplay feel smoother and more responsive thanks to an overhaul of the game’s network architecture, which makes use of sub-ticks that make gameplay precise regardless of tick rate. For those of you who have large collections and are worried about losing all your skins in CS2, don’t worry; your inventory carries over in CS2, so you’ll get to keep everything you’ve collected over the years.
Aside from the gameplay videos, Valve has also revealed that Limited Tests for CS2 will begin today. These tests will be available to players who are selected based on a number of factors, including playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and more. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores pre-orders are now available! The announcement was made alongside a new trailer published by PlayStation. The trailer doesn’t show much, with brief gameplay footage of the DLC included in the video.
You can watch it here:
The trailer does showcase the pre-order bonuses that you get if you purchase the game ahead of its release. These include a special Blacktide dye, which resembles a dark green color, and a Blacktide sharpshot bow design for your weapon. It’s also worth mentioning that Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will also feature the late Lance Reddick, who reprised his role as Sylens from Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores aims to be even more graphically impressive than the base game thanks to its PS5 exclusivity. With the expansion not being limited by the PS4’s dated hardware, Guerrilla Games was able to add more details to lighting and other effects in Burning Shores. Along with the performance improvements that the PS5 version already sports, such as better draw distance and variable refresh rate, Burning Shores may turn out to be even more movie-like than Forbidden West. You can read more about Burning Shores and its use of the PS5’s power here.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores launches this April 19 on PS5.
It’s official—Counter-Strike 2 has finally been announced by Valve themselves! The announcement was made via Twitter and features a short gameplay clip of smoke grenades and the changes made to them in CS2. Counter-Strike 2 is set to launch this Summer 2023.
Here’s the official Tweet:
Today we're excited to announce Counter-Strike 2. Counter-Strike 2 is an overhaul to every system, every piece of content, and every part of the C-S experience. First, let's talk about smoke grenades: pic.twitter.com/iTtguRHJ0S
The new smoke grenades are dynamic in nature, with the smoke being “volumetric 3D objects that live in the world.” This causes the smoke to look the same no matter where you look at it, and it will also interact with the environment for more realistic smoke effects. This is made possible thanks to the new game engine used in CS2. The smoke grenade change is part of Counter-Strike 2’s complete overhaul of CS, according to the tweet, with the systems and content changed up to modern standards.
Counter-Strike 2 was leaked a couple of weeks ago in a reference found on Nvidia drivers. And just a few days prior, Valve had trademarked “CS2,” further rousing suspicions that the game would be announced relatively soon after.
With Counter-Strike 2 launching later this year in Summer 2023, players won’t have to wait long before they get to try out the new game engine. While Valve hasn’t announced which platforms CS2 will be on, it will most likely come to PC and maybe even consoles. Once Valve releases more information about CS2’s new system and content, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Creative Director Harvey Smith has now confirmed that a Redfall PS5 version was indeed in development at one point, but was cancelled by Microsoft after its 2021 acquisition of Arkane parent ZeniMax Media. The developer views the change as positive for the development of the game, and feels that it could become Arkane’s “biggest game” due to Xbox Game Pass’ colossal subscriber count.
In a new interview ahead of the game’s May 2 launch, Arkane Studios Austin Studio Director and Redfall Creative Director Harvey Smith (of Deus Ex and Dishonored fame) revealed that Microsoft directed the studio to cease development on a Redfall PS5 version after its 2021 takeover of ZeniMax Media:
We were acquired by Microsoft and it was a change with capital C. They came in and they said “No PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC and the [Xbox] Game Pass.” It’s not very serious. It’s even a good decision, I think. [It helps to] support Game Pass and have one less platform to worry about, one less complexity. Game Pass has a ton of players. It could become our biggest game thanks to [Game Pass’] 30 million – I can’t remember the exact number – subscribers.
Though the developer looks at the move as a positive change in retrospect, his statement is almost sure to bolster Sony’s case against the Microsoft-Activision deal in front of regulators. The Japanese gaming giant has claimed that Microsoft chose to keep Redfall and Starfield off PlayStation platforms after it acquired ZeniMax Media, and that it plans to do the same with Activision’s Call of Duty IP regardless of its commitments otherwise.
Redfall creeps out on PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 2, 2023. Check out the story trailer released last week, which introduced fans to the game’s sci-fi-meets-body-horror lore and its cast of terrifying mutant villains.

If you need a game that has a bit of a bite, then Bethesda’s upcoming first-person shooter featuring vampires might do the trick! Thankfully, we now have an idea on how it plays. On March 13, I got to take part in an event in New York City put on by Bethesda and Arkane Austin in support of the upcoming release of Redfall,. At the event, we got to play the game for about 90 minutes as well as listen to a presentation from studio head Harvey Smith.
Redfall takes place in the island town of Redfall, Massachusetts. The area has been overrun by vampires and cultists, and it’s up to us to figure out why this has happened while also trying to put an end to it before it’s too late. There are four playable characters that offer a fun mix of abilities to choose from: Divinder Crousely, Layla Ellison, Remi De La Rosa, and Jacob Boyer.
Fang-tastic Combat
During my playthrough, I decided to go with Remi. She’s described as a brilliant combat engineer who has spent her life on the front lines. She has a healing ability and a useful little robot named Bribon. I chose her mostly because of her healing ability and because I like having a little companion helping me out, and that’s definitely what Bribon is all about. There are times when I would be getting attacked, and Bribon would start making lots of noises to pull agro away, and it got me out of a jam or two.
Another interesting character is Jacob because he reminded me of Mordecai from Borderlands with his sniper rifle and spectral raven, and he may end up becoming my main once the game releases, but I definitely don’t regret using Remi.
The best way to describe Redfall is as somewhat of an open-world BioShock game with vampires. It has that same level of creepiness and mystery and really lives up to the type of vibe you would expect from the Arkane family of games. It feels familiar, while also being its own thing.
While the game offers four player co-op, we didn’t get a chance to try this. However, playing solo was definitely fun, and I cannot wait to explore the town of Redfall with a group of friends, as I found exploring and gazing upon the beautiful environments to be amongst the highlight of my play session. Being from Massachusetts myself, Arkane really nailed the aesthetics. It had true Cape Code/Martha’s Vinyard vibes, and even the interiors and buildings resonated with me as a native. I understand that seeing the radiator designs and how they look like the ones at my grandparent’s house won’t matter to many people, but I point it out because it speaks to the authenticity and attention to detail Arkane has in building this brand-new world.
They started us a little bit into the game at level 8, so we didn’t go through all the tutorials, and we were able to set up our skill tree and find some cool weapons. This also allowed us to play around with some of the abilities and the skill tree, and they are all pretty interesting and about what you would expect from a game like this. I didn’t get to go that deep, but one of the abilities Remi has that struck out was the C4, which I quite enjoyed flinging at groups of enemies and laughing as they went boom.
Stake to the Heart!
Because one of the enemy types happens to be a vampire, it’s not as simple as shooting it until it dies. Once a vampire enemy is depleted of health, you also have to melee attack them with a stake to the heart. I learned the hard way that in order to do this, you have to have a weapon equipped that has an actual stake on it, and I maybe died once because none of my guns did have one, and some more advanced vampires kept reviving and coming back to bite me — literally.
If you enjoy looter shooters, I think Redfall is going to be a lot of fun for you. Is it reinventing the wheel? Not necessarily, but from what I got to play, it did all the things you want a quality video game to do, and I think Arkane’s track record speaks for itself. The 90 minutes I got to play really flew, and I just can’t wait to get back into it.
One thing that I think is going to be important to point out for some people is that we were told the game does not intend to have microtransactions. There is a “Bite Back” Edition that can be purchased at retail for $29.99 that comes with a steelbook, a Hero Pass that will let you play as two future heroes, and some other digital skins and attachments, but there will be no in-game store full of skins and such. Microtransactions don’t necessarily bother me as much as some people, but I do think it’s really cool that a little collector’s bundle is being offered since most people will probably get the game on Game Pass. I personally love steelbooks and not having to pay extra for the game to get a cool steelbook is a great idea.
Redfall will be available on May 2nd on Xbox and PC. As mentioned, if you have Game Pass, it will launch Day 1 on the service for free. Based on what I’ve played so far, I’m eager to see the other characters and what they can do in the battlefield, as well as the other enemy types we’ll able to fight.

God Balance
Amaterasu
Amaterasu’s Divine Trait Switching Strike was disabled since it was leading to a spike of power and unbalanced situations. We wanted to design a new talent to replace Switching Strike, returning to have 3 selectable Divine Traits on Amaterasu.
Switching Strike has been replaced by a new talent called Blade Edge.
Blade Edge: The attack after Uppercut grants 10% Ultimate Charge if it is an Air Light (2nd hit) or reduces all cooldowns by 2s if it is Air Heavy.
King Arthur
King Arthur receives some love in this patch. We want to make the tracking, warping, and hitboxes of his attacks consistent with other God metrics since they were slightly shorter. In addition, we make the Ability 2 projectile harder to avoid for opponents, since it was easily avoidable compared to other projectiles in the game.
Updated tracking, warping, and hitbox size of all the attacks.
Increased projectile speed of Soaring Edge by 20% to increase skill check.
Loki
Loki has seen a great god release but we hear your voices and we want to adjust him in this patch. We want to provide more awareness to opponents about Loki’s stealth activation in order to exactly know when he enters in stealth even not looking at him. Next to this addition, we want to balance the cooldown of Acrobatic Vault since it was obtained too fast leading to a lot of aerial combos. Empowered attacks led to power spikes thanks to huge tracking distance and damage, we wanted to balance them to bring those attacks in a more balanced state. Loki’s damage potential was very high due to various combos. We nerfed his damage in several parts of his kit, to spread the nerf and keep abilities and talents interesting. This also includes reducing the damage potential and making the ultimate more avoidable for opponents, since it was more punishing than other ultimates.
Integrate a specific SFX of a laugh (or other sound in line with stealth fantasy) that has to be very recognizable and unique. It has to be heard from close to medium/far distance from opponents to be aware of the stealth activation.
Acrobatic Vault: Increased the cooldown from 17s to 20s.
Obscuring Dagger: Reduced damage from 12 to 10.
Explosive Me:
Added 0.1 on the charging phase to force Loki to wait more time before the Ult is fully charged (providing also more time to refire)
Added 0.1 on the prefire of the explosion to give more reaction time to the opponents to dodge/avoid the explosion
Reduced the dmg bracket of the Ultimate from 20-30 to 17-25 to be more in line with other gods’ ult damage
Reduced Ultimate Charge rate by 8% (same as Sun Wukong and King Arthur).
Empowered Air Light:
Reduced warping distance from 9m to 8m
Reduced the velocity of the warping to reduce the “snappy” feeling of the attack and provide more time to react for opponents
Reduced damage from 16 to 12
Empowered Air Heavy Attack:
Reduced the velocity of the warping to reduce the “snappy” feeling of the attack and provide more time to react for opponents
Reduced damage from 16 to 14
Talents
Effect Seeker Divine Trait (Attacks against Poisoned and Blinded enemies deal an additional 2 Damage) reduced damage buff provided from 2 to 1.
Sol
Sol receives small Quality of Life changes in this patch. We increase the potency of her healing potential and build after the changes applied in the last patch. Also, Disapparate’s animation was not perfectly synced with the start of the movement.
Increased the number of pools created by “The Floor is Lava” from 4 to 6.
Reduced the length of the pre-fire animation by 2 frames.
Sun Wukong
We continue to hear your feedback about Sun Wukong and we want to provide a subtle way to recognize the clone (in combo with what we already did in the last patch: the clone dealing 30% less dmg) to allow high-skill players to recognize it. Next to this, the Precise Momentum blessing was the only blessing without the God name in the title; we wanted to avoid that kind of inconsistency. And lastly, we update the “Monkey See, Monkey Do” talent to reduce its overall power.
Clone plays specific gameplay cues when is hit by the opponent and when he hits the opponent. The gameplay cues are just slightly different, requiring attention to be recognized.
The talent name of “Precise Momentum” has been updated in “Sun Wukong’s Momentum” to avoid naming inconsistency.
The “Monkey See, Monkey Do” talent has been updated in “Monkey See”, and the clone can now use just The Magic Cudgel (Dashing Strikes has been removed from the talent).
Susano
Our team has been hard at work designing a new talent to replace the Wind Runner minor trait since it is too strong and leads to unbalanced power spikes in aerial playstyle.
Talents
Wind Runner replaced by a new Talent: Windstorm
Attacks against enemies trapped by Swirling Tempest deal additional 2 damage and 20% knockback (Up to 6 damage per Attack).
Map Updates
Buff Pads have been added to the following maps for Knockout modes:
Spinning Spikes
Sinking Swamp
Rockslide Ridge
Spellbound Study
Spirit Shrine
Mystic Mayhem
Merlin statue has less intrusive invisible collision around it.
Big pillars structure now has even more form accurate collision. This should now also allow crater decals to sometimes not be visible.
Bug Fixes
We also fixed a bunch of bugs again! Here’s a list of highlights:
Character Select now by default highlights the favorite God (or last played God if there is no favorite) instead of Amaterasu.
Added a gamepad key binding option for resetting the camera (default is right stick click).
3vAI switched to Knockout instead of Arcade
Fixed where Loki was playing his Enemy Knockout voice lines when an ally is knocked out
Fixed an issue where Amaterasu’s uppercut was sometimes putting her to be behind the target
Changed the name of the Arcade custom tab to 3v3 custom
Fixed an issue where players did not receive daily login rewards if they were loaded into the tutorial.
Fixed where AI Thor’s Ability 1 wasn’t displaying the warning
Fixed a controller issue where changing god in practice rooms changes god for the AI
Fixed where Bots were unable to navigate onto the central tower when playing oddball on crumbling keep when nobody was holding the crown
Fixed where Oddball cooldown HUD failed to countdown in a custom arcade game
Fixed an issue if Ymir was standing right next to his wall then he could be hit by abilities thrown at the other side of it

Bandai Namco Entertainment has made quite a killing off publishing Souls games and even its own Soulslikes: the company has announced that Code Vein sales have reached over three million units sold worldwide across all platforms since its September 2019 release.
Bandai Namco Entertainment published FromSoftware’s legendary Dark Souls games for years before the release of Elden Ring, which sold over 16 million copies less than a year into its release. With 2019’s Code Vein, it sought to blend Soulslike gameplay with the animation style of its God Eater IP, replacing the infamous Undead with powerful vampiric fighters known as “Revevants.” Though Code Vein did not achieve levels of success comparable to Dark Souls, it is nevertheless a formidable game in its own right, as evidenced by the three million units it has sold since its launch.
