Fortnite Update 1.000.097 Released for Low Resolution Fix This March 23 (Update)

Epic Games has rolled out Fortnite update 1.000.097, which seems to be for the PS5 only. This fixes the low resolution Forest Guardian issue. Read on for the exact details in the Fortnite March 23 patch notes.

Here’s the issue acknowledged by Epic Games:

We’re aware leaves and foliage in the Forest Guardian island experience appear low resolution on PlayStation 5.

Creators – this issue also affects any masked materials in UEFN. We’re investigating a fix for this, and will provide an update when it’s resolved.

Once official details regarding the patch has been revealed, we’ll update the article. Bear in mind that we just got the v24.01 update earlier this week, so more info regarding what’s in it could be made available.

New feature

Ray Tracing support has been added for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC versions.

Ray Tracing can be activated in the settings menu:

  • PS5 / XSX: Game Options > Ray Tracing
  • PC: Graphics > Ray Tracing Quality

Please note that performance – such as frame rate and resolution – may be impacted while playing with Ray Tracing on.

Elden Ring Servers Down for Patch 1.09 Roll Out This March 23

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have taken the Elden Ring servers down this March 23, and this is to bring a new title update to the game.

      • Therefore, Tactical Stocks’ spawn rates have slightly decreased.

< Dev’s Comment >

We’re nudging some healthy balance updates to several of our well-known weapons this update. We constantly strive to create a balanced and enjoyable gameplay experience and in order to achieve this goal we analyze months’ worth of player data, monitor community feedback, and conduct extensive testing.

  • AUG: We’ve observed that the 5.56mm’s overperformance appears to have stabilized following the Mk12 readjustment in our last update. However, we have also noted the limited options for 5.56mm AR weapons, particularly when compared to the diverse selection of 7.62mm weapons. This is why we’ve decided to make significant changes to our arsenal ecosystem starting this update – we’ve brought in FAMAS, a powerful 5.56mm weapon, to exclusive locations such as Care Packages. Furthermore, we are introducing the AUG as a world spawn weapon and adjusting its stats accordingly to make it more potent but also more challenging to handle compared to the M416. These changes will establish the AUG as a formidable choice among 5.56mm ARs.

  • M416: The M416 is widely favored among ARs due to its excellent balance of firepower and stability, and its impressive performance in combat. However, to introduce new changes, we have determined that a minor adjustment to the M416 was necessary.

  • M16A4 and Mk47 Mutant: The M16A4 and Mk47 Mutant, which lack the Full-Auto mode, are currently underperforming. We have also taken note of our community’s desire to see the return of high-risk, high-reward weapons from the early days of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. As a result, we have increased the Single and Burst RPM of the M16A4 and Mk47 Mutant to a higher level, based on your feedback and internal testing.

  • Shotguns: We also understand your frustrations with encountering shotguns after shotguns and getting instantly knocked out, especially early in game. To preserve the concept and authenticity of shotguns, we’ve decided to reduce the spawn rates of shotguns and their corresponding ammo instead of adjusting their performance. With this change, we hope it’ll make it more challenging for players to rely excessively on shotguns during early-game. We’ve also slightly increased the spawn rates for ARs, DMRs, and SMGs instead to see more various combats from the start.

As we mentioned in our previous Dev Letter: Gunplay Development Direction, we wish to create a diverse gameplay environment where players are able to freely choose the weapon that best fits their playstyle, rather than feeling as if they’re in need to use a particular weapon to compete. We understand the importance of maintaining fair balance in the game, and we are committed to continually monitoring your plays and feedback.

SMITE Season of Hope Begins March 28, Bringing New Conquest Map, Healing Rework & More

As Year 10’s Season of Monsters approaches its end, Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios have announced that the SMITE Season of Hope will begin on March 28 with a new Maya-themed Conquest map, a full Healing rework, the “Hope Reborn” event with over 20 skin rewards, and a new 90-tier Battle Pass.

SMITE Season of Hope New Content & Features:

Year 10’s second season includes a new Conquest map, significant gameplay changes, a new reward-heavy event, and more:

  • New Conquest Map: The Mayan goddess Ix Chel takes on Surtr in the new season, and their epic conflict has reshaped the land with a new Maya-themed Conquest map. Ix Chel herself will be coming to SMITE as a playable God sometime in April.
  • Full Healing Rework: SMITE’s healing system has been completely reworked in the new season to mitigate the mechanic’s disproportionate strengths. All gods will now heal roughly 30% less from abilities, and the same cut has been applied to lifesteal. Healing gods and items have been empowered, and healing abilities will now only scale with items and levels instead of power. The Brawling System has been removed altogether.
  • New Event: The “Hope Reborn” event will run throughout the season with over 20 skin rewards, including the latest Tier 5 skin Leading Lady Aphrodite.
  • New 90-Tier Battle Pass: The Battle Pass has been upgraded from 60 to 90 tiers, and will include seven skin rewards: three all-new skins each with one variant, and a re-imagined skin from the game’s past.

Lords Of The Fallen New Trailer Showcases Its Gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 Visuals and Tech

Unreal Engine 5 is taking center stage at this year’s GDC, as many studios, such as Ninja Theory with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, have shown some rather impressive showcases of the engine. Well, it looks like we aren’t yet done, as CI Games have also put together a new trailer for Lord of The Fallen, showing off how they’re using Unreal Engine 5 to push the limits of their game.

Sonic Frontiers Update 1.20 Speeds Out for March 22 – First Free Content Drop

As previously announced, Sonic Team has released Sonic Frontiers update 1.20 (1.020 on PS5) for today, March 22, adding the first of three content drops planned for the game. Read on for the new Sonic Frontiers update patch notes.

  • Photo Mode – Frame up, edit, and capture your favorite moments in Photo Mode! Capture Sonic in action across a variety of landscapes and create the perfect photo. You can also choose between seven filters to add some flare to your photos.
  • Juke Box – Play your favorite tracks while exploring the Starfall Islands, which include tracks from Sonic Frontiers and past Sonic games! You can listen to any of the 53 songs anywhere in the open zones – 13 of which are instantly unlocked and playable as soon as the game is updated. Unlock the remaining 40 songs by collecting Sound Memories across the five islands. Keep an eye out for orange music notes! Please Note the Juke Box feature may be inaccessible during certain parts of the game.
  • New Challenge Modes – After finishing the campaign, test your skills with new challenge modes.
  • Cyber Space Challenge Mode – Race through seven Cyber Space Stages back-to-back in this time-attack mode while competing against the clock!
  • Battle Rush Mode – Battle through several rounds against increasingly tough enemies, guardians, and Titans in this timed battle mode! Aim for the fastest clear time with your leveled-up Sonic. If you achieve a higher rank, you may get a special surprise.

This update also includes additional changes to improve your experience while exploring the Starfall Islands.

  • The Power Boost animation can be toggled in the Options menu.
  • The Starfall Slot Machine can be toggled in the Options menu.
  • Cyber Space levels can be restarted mid-level.
  • When upgrading Sonic, multiple Koco can now be exchanged at once with the Elder and Hermit Koco.

Bloober: Silent Hill 2 Remake Is Technically Ready, Though Not Finished; Release Depends on Konami

While the Silent Hill 2 remake being developed by Bloober Team still doesn’t have a release date, it seems that development on the game is a lot further along than we thought, as the game is “technically finished” according to the studio.

Speaking Polish publication bankier (via ResetEra), Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno states (translated by DeepL) that the release of Silent Hill 2 is not directly in their hands.

Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It doesn’t mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issues of the release schedule lie with our partners, what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands

This is definitely good news for horror fans, as not only did we get the awesome reimagining of Dead Space this January, but we’re also set to get Resident Evil 4 remake this week as well. Hopefully, with the game’s development this far out, we’ll hear word on a proper release date soon.

Silent Hill 2 is set for release on the PS5 and PC though there’s no specific release date announced just yet.

Dead Island 2 Cinematic Title Sequence Showcases HELL-A’s Breathtaking Decay

Ahead of the game’s April 21 release date, Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver have released a Dead Island 2 cinematic title sequence. Developed by legendary animation studio Elastic.tv of Game of Thrones and The Last of Us HBO fame, the title sequence takes fans through the bloodstained, yet still glamorous ruins of Los Angeles, its famous sights marred by disturbingly-vibrant gore.

After years of an exceptionally turbulent development process, the Deep Silver-published zombie RPG Dead Island 2 is finally all set to go live on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game is set in a post-Dead Island California under military quarantine, and features six unique characters with fully customizable abilities. The game also allows three-player co-op multiplayer for friends to enjoy the game’s over-the-top dismemberment system together.

Dead Island 2 is set for an April 21, 2023 release on the aforementioned platforms. For a better idea of what to expect from it, check out over 14 minutes of gameplay from the title following the melee-heavy Slayer Dani taking on the horrors of HELL-A, narrated by the developers who explain the game’s combat and other mechanics.

Warframe’s TennoCon 2023 Ticket Sales Begin April 5, In-Game Anniversary Awards Announced, and More

Warframe, the popular free-to-play action RPG by Digital Extremes, turns 10 this year, and the studio has announced rewards, ticket sales, and more. The announcements were made on the special anniversary livestream held earlier today.

Notably, ticket sales for this year’s TennoCon event were announced to begin on April 5. This comes after a three-year hiatus of the in-person event, with TennoCon 2023 to be held at RBC Place in London on August 26. There, Digital Extremes will hold celebrations for Warframe as well as give attendees a glimpse at “what else Digital Extremes has planned for the future,” according to a recent press release.

For those who aren’t able to attend TennoCon later this August, there are still events to look forward to in-game. As part of Warframe’s 10-year anniversary celebrations, in-game rewards will be handed out to players on a bi-weekly basis starting March 24 until June 2. These rewards will include both new and returning goodies such as Warframe Dex Skins, Weapons, Ephemera, and Armor, among others. There will also be discounts in Maroo’s Bazaar from March 24 to April 6 and May 29 to June 2.

Finally, Digital Extremes showcased a bit more of The Duviri Paradox, Warframe’s upcoming roguelike expansion. The gameplay featured the Orowyrm boss fight, which you can find in the full livestream video here. The Warframe team will also be holding a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) in April, with details coming out on the Q&A soon.

COD Mobile Season 3 Begins March 29 With New Map, Weapon and More

Call of Duty Mobile Season 3, known as “RUSH,” is the mobile game’s latest season and is set to begin on March 29. COD: Mobile Season 3 will feature a new map, a new weapon, and a new system called Safe Houses, among other additions.

Season 3: RUSH will debut a new map of the same name, Rush. It’s a paintball facility that’s filled with vibrant colors and obstacles for players to take cover in and move through. As a medium-sized map, Rush contains both an inner and outer field for flanking opportunities.

Aside from the new map, Season 3 will also introduce the HDR, a new bolt-action sniper rifle that was first showcased in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. A new GRD-11 attachment for the CR56 assault rifle will be added to the game as well.

Finally, Season 3 will be adding a few new systems to the game. A single-player map training mode will allow for practice in any map of your choice with the help of enemy bots, unlimited ammo, and more. Then there’s Safe Houses, a personalized bunker where you can showcase your achievements, skins, and more to other players who visit your Safe House.

With the usual Seasonal Challenges, a Themed Event, and more, players will have a lot to look forward to once Season 3 drops this March 29.

D&D Direct 2023 Announced for March 28; Will Feature 30 Minutes of D&D Reveals and More

Wizards of the Coast has announced this year’s D&D Direct date, with the event scheduled to go live on March 28. D&D Direct 2023 will be hosted by Gina Darling and Ify Nwadiwe, with news on various D&D-related IPs. 

The event will contain 30 minutes of news and exclusive reveals relating to Dungeons & Dragons, as well as some tie-ins with the upcoming D&D movie, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

It’s worth noting that D&D Direct 2023 will premiere just a few months after it was revealed that Wizards of the Coast had canceled several DND-related video game projects. These projects included collaborations with studios such as Otherside Entertainment and Hidden Path Entertainment, with the move being the result of Hasbro’s attempt to deal with financial troubles at the time.

Due to the recent cancellation of various projects, it’s unclear whether or not we’ll be getting news on any D&D-related games under Wizards of the Coast during D&D Direct. In the meantime, D&D fans will have to make do with games from other publishers that follow the D&D formula, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, which now has an August 2023 launch date

D&D Direct will begin on March 28 at 9 AM PT (that’s 12 PM ET, 4 PM GMT, and midnight HKT the following day). The online event will be livestreamed on the official DND channels on Twitch and YouTube.

Microsoft Argues Sony Can Develop Call of Duty Alternatives in 10 Years

In its latest response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Microsoft has argued that even if its proposed decade-long Call of Duty access agreement with Sony is not renewed, the latter will be able to develop alternatives to Activision‘s shooter IP in the deal’s 10-year duration. While the Redmond corporation believes that it will have no reason to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox platforms and services once the agreement is no longer in effect, it claims that there is no reason to extend the agreement further (at least for the initial proposal) in line with the CMA’s previous rulings in such cases.

In the latest development in its Phase 2 review of the Microsoft-Activision deal, the CMA has published Microsoft’s supplemental response to the notice of possible remedies. The document addresses the antitrust watchdog’s concerns presented at the Remedies Hearing on February 27. The company has reiterated its intention to bring Activision Blizzard’s game franchises to additional platforms, and responded to the questions and concerns raised by the UK regulator about its proposed behavioral remedies.

In response to a question by the CMA about the sufficiency of its proposed decade-long Call of Duty access agreement with Sony, Microsoft has claimed that the latter, as “a leading publisher and console platform,” is more than able to develop an alternative franchise to Call of Duty in 10 years, making it unnecessary for the agreement proposal to be extended further:

At the Remedies Hearing the CMA asked Microsoft if the 10-year duration is sufficient and whether there would be a “cliff edge” for Sony at the end of this period. The 10- year period is []. Microsoft considers that a period of 10 years is sufficient for Sony, as a leading publisher and console platform, to develop alternatives to CoD. The 10-year term will extend into the next console generation []. Moreover, the practical effect of the remedy will go beyond the 10-year period, since games downloaded in the final year of the remedy can continue to be played for the lifetime of that console (and beyond, with backwards compatibility).

CoD is an entertainment franchise which is already nearly 20 years old. [], Microsoft will need to secure the broadest distribution of the franchise and will be heavily incentivized to keep it on the PlayStation platform []. Microsoft considers that having maintained CoD on PlayStation and grown its player base on Nintendo, GeForce Now and other cloud gaming platforms for a decade, it will have no incentive, or indeed ability, to take CoD exclusive.

Additionally, Microsoft notes that the 10-year duration it has proposed for the agreement is longer than or equal to what was accepted by the CMA in previous relevant decisions, such as Reckitt Benckiser/K-Y brand (2015) and Korean Air / Asiana Airlines (2023). As such, it believes that there is “no basis for extending the remedy” beyond the period it has proposed.

A statutory deadline of April 26, 2023 has been set for the publishing of the CMA’s final report of its Phase 2 review of the Microsoft-Activision deal. Stay tuned here at MP1st for all upcoming news and announcements concerning the acquisition.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Showcases Unreal Engine’s Impressive Facial Animations

A new Unreal Engine showcase reveals the technological advancements made with the rendering software, featuring an impressive facial animation showcase for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.

The short animation was part of the State of Unreal gameplay showcase held at GDC 2023

The animation is brief but highlights the details in the facial expressions made by Melina Juergens, the actress who plays Senua in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. You can clearly see the subtle movements of her facial muscles and eyes. 

Epic Games revealed the impressive capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 a couple of years ago, and it seems Unreal Engine has improved the technical capabilities of the game engine since then. More and more titles are using the power of Unreal Engine 5 for new and upcoming releases; Tekken 8 makes great use of the engine as shown in recent gameplay trailers, and action RPG Wayfinder will be making the switch from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 for various improvements, including raytracing.

Sennua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was originally announced back in 2019, and we’ve gotten a bit of information on the upcoming sequel to Hellblade since then. The game already sported impressive visuals from previous trailers, too. 

With Ninja Theory continuing to work on Hellblade 2, it’ll be exciting to see how the studio pushes the boundaries of Unreal Engine.

Soulframe Gameplay Slices Out in Surprise Reveal, Might Look Familiar to Some

During today’s Warframe devstream #169, Digital Extremes pulled a rabbit out of its hat, as the studio out of nowhere sprung our first look at Soulframe gameplay! 

Clocking in at just three minutes, this is our first look at the medieval game. While Digital Extremes has already said that players shouldn’t expect gameplay to be similar to Dark Souls or other FromSoftware titles, it does give off that vibe. Don’t believe me? Give it a watch and judge for yourself.

Again, don’t expect the gameplay to be similar to a Souls game, even if what we’ve seen so far looks to be that way.
