Halo Infinite Campaign Co-Op Delayed Once Again; Season 2 Detailed

In their latest update post, 343 Industries revealed that the Halo Infinite campaign co-op has been delayed once again, in addition to detailing their list of priorities for the future of the game. As the game moves into Season 2, the studio also revealed what’s coming with Halo Infinite, and just when can players expect these new modes to come.

As detailed in the latest post from Halo Waypoint, here is the current focus that 343 have for the game, in order:

  1. Addressing issues negatively impacting the player experience.
  2. Completing Season 2 and delivering it as promised on May 3rd.
  3. Continuing work on Campaign Co-Op, Forge, and Season 3.

343 then elaborated on these three, with the post detailing how they have since shipped important fixes for some of the game’s biggest issues:

Some of the issues on the Hotlist are gaps in the Halo Infinite experience that we only fully understood close to launch and were unable to address at an acceptable quality bar before ship. An example of this kind of “known” Hotlist issue is “Spartan Career” aka score-based player progression. Examples of “unknown” issues at launch were vulnerabilities in our anti-cheat system and problems with BTB matchmaking that we didn’t realize existed until we launched the game at scale.

Thus far, we have prioritized acute, unknown-before-ship issues that have a widespread negative impact on the shipped experience. Some items have been addressed and cleared from the Hotlist (e.g., BTB matchmaking), some have had partial improvements but need more work (e.g., anti-cheat), and others are in active development but not-yet-released (e.g., Spartan Career, Campaign Co-Op, and Forge). We are working on a public facing version of the Hotlist, similar to what the studio did during the Master Chief Collection updates, so that all of you will have a clear and constant window into the status of Hotlist issues as we work to address them.

As for plans for Season 2, the studio showed off some concept art for coming armor and other cosmetics in the game. You can check out a rundown of this below:

If you check your Season 1 Battle Pass, you will see that that Season 1 ends on May 2nd, and that’s because Season 2 will launch May 3rd. I’m very excited to announce the official name and theme for Season 2, which is… “Lone Wolves.”

By “theme” we mean a core idea that guides the creation of much, but not all, of a Season’s content. Lone Wolf Spartans are hunters. Trackers. They’re resourceful improvisers, operating deep in enemy territory without resupply or support. They’re fierce, rugged, and prefer to work alone—but they’re still loyal to the Spartan pack.

But like I said, not all Season content is directly linked to the theme, and a prime example of this is our free Fracture armor core for Season 2. Here’s a concept of that core, and we can’t wait to show you all the customization options for it—and for the free Lone Wolves armor core.

During Season 2, we will also be shipping playlist updates, balance changes, new modes, and maps, specifically, one Arena map named “Catalyst” and one BTB map named “Breaker.” The new modes include “Last Spartan Standing”, a free-for-all elimination mode, as well as another new mode named “Land Grab,” plus the return of an updated, all-time favorite mode, “King of the Hill.”

However, the most pertinent part of the update post is for the news on Campaign Co-Op and Forge mode, with the former delayed once again:

We’re making great progress on Campaign network co-op. And to be clear, this work has been occurring in parallel to Season 2 work, as has our work on Forge.

But the reality is that it’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite. We’re also committed to a great 2-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox Series X—and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve.

All this means that we will not be able to ship Campaign network co-op on May 3rd, at the start of Season 2. But we are still aiming to deliver Campaign network co-op later in Season 2, and we will share a release date for that and for split-screen co-op as soon as we can.

We are also making great progress on Forge. Indeed, we are already flighting Forge to a small group of community creators and working closely with them to ensure that all of you have a terrific experience creating, sharing, browsing, and playing Forge content. In the near term, we will continue to privately flight Forge as we develop it while also planning for public flight(s) later this year. We still have the goal of shipping Forge with Season 3.

There you have it. The studio has not revealed more details on when exactly into Season can players start expecting the arrival of Campaign Co-Op, and given that these Seasons can last a while, they may be in for another long wait.

In case you missed it, check out the latest patch notes for Halo Infinite here, which included the Season 1 Mid-Season updates.

Elex 2 Review: Slow Burn (Xbox Series)

The role-playing game (RPG) genre has become synonymous with gaming in general. Nowadays there are elements of RPGs in almost any game being released, and every few months there’s a big-name action-RPGg or Japanese-RPG released to general acclaim. Skyrim has been released on every platform possible since its initial launch in 2011. Technology has made the genre capable of a depth people once only dreamed of with games like Disco Elysium. So where in this spectrum of one of video games’ core genres does the likes of Piranha Bytes’ newest game Elex 2 land? Is it worth your money or time? Will non-genre fans have a good time with it? Let’s talk about it.

Not An Elex-ant Start

When I first fired up the game and watched the opening cinematic it raised my interest. After the events of the first game, which I unfortunately haven’t gotten to play, the world has fallen into tribalism and the various groups see each other as enemies that need to be defeated or held at bay. We’re given a brief history of Magalon, this science-fantasy setting that takes place in what appears to be the distant future where Earth has experienced an apocalypse that was so severe that almost all knowledge of pre-disaster history has been lost. In the time since the titular substance, Elex, was discovered and has developed into a catch all for this new world. It’s the basis for technology, drugs, machines and even becomes a form of currency. Robots and drones exist right alongside wizards and spellcasters, known as Berserkers, one of the three major clans of Magalon (we’ll talk about this later). After the cinematic cutscene plays, another cutscene shows what has become of Jax, the protagonist of both the first game and this one. After successfully saving Magalon the first time he has decided to live the life of a hermit in an isolated cabin — a cabin that we see almost immediately destroyed when an alien spaceship landed on it. Jax is able to escape after a fight, but he is infected with Dark Elex, a new alien form of the miracle mineral.

From there, the gameplay starts and I have got to be frank, the opening of this game is rough. In fact, I would go so far as to say (maybe) the first two full hours felt janky to an extreme. The graphics appear lopsided, with the environment and some of the animals looking great but the humans looking stiff and plastic-y. Initially the gameplay felt like an uninspired Skyrim clone, and if I hadn’t been playing for review I would probably have just written the whole experience off and played something else. But the story did intrigue me and the setting was interesting so I had hoped that something could come of this poor start, and good gracious, was I right.

Midmaxing Jax

As I continue to play, and the world opens, and I meet a few different characters, I find myself being able to see past the jankiness more and more. The story gets set up fairly quickly, after you pass out while running away from the aliens that destroyed your cabin, you pass out and wake up days later having been saved by an old man in a lab coat who tells you to meet him at a place called the Bastion. Along the way, I ran into some Berserkers and Jax’s ex-girlfriend with whom he has a son. I thought that I would dislike playing as a designed character rather than going through a character creator, but the team uses it to great effect. Jax has a history in this world. Characters remember him and have history with him. Your decisions and the roles you decide to play aren’t creating a new person who fits the “chosen stranger” archetype. You are deciding what kind of man Jax has become. How his experiences and his own internal dialogue has changed him.

There are certainly elements that fans of Bethesda’s RPGs will recognize, but this game also takes a lot of cues from much more traditional western RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Fallout 1 and 2. I don’t invoke those titles without knowing all that is insinuated, and I don’t intend to imply that this game is among the genre-defining titles that are considered some of the best games of all-time. But I do see clear ways that those games inspired this one in very positive ways.

Max used to be a member of the Albs, but after the end of the first game he became an unaffiliated man. One of the first tasks you are given is to decide on a new allegiance and tribe to join for access to training and resources (each faction has a unique skill tree you can access to train in once you’re a member.) Completing all the tasks and following the story line required to join one of these factions can take hours and spawn off a dozen side quests in the meantime. But I never felt overwhelmed (moreso intrigued about the smaller intimate stories happening in the different bases). The voice acting and character animation aren’t the best anyone’s ever seen or heard, but the scripting is immersive and usually remembers who I have and haven’t spoken to before. There are five human factions in total, with three of them being large and two that are smaller. All of which are unique and interesting and Jax has a history with different members of all of them. It’s a solid foundation for the ins and outs of this second chapter of Jax’s story.

Ultimately, your goal in this quest is to unite members of these various factions to create a sixth power, and make a stand against the alien invaders. But like many games in this genre, the main quest to defeat the big baddies is not the most interesting part of this story, but it is a very serviceable Mcguffin to the various side quests and journeys you’ll find yourself on.

An Uneven Flight

While the game very much grew on me, there are still things that show its nature as more of a budget experience. While the graphics and models other than the humans are solid (and some of the humans are better than others) the animation can occasionally be a little stiff, I experienced some glitches with the map and the mini-map is missing enough functionality that I found frustrating a number of times.

The music is very good but doesn’t always fit the mood of what’s happening. In general, there is a definite layer of jank that covers most of the experience. Though I will say that I have experienced games with bigger budgets that have had bigger issues, as I never had the game crash or break outright on me.

I’ve spent most of this review talking about the story and setting because I was impressed by them, but I don’t mean to insinuate that the combat or gameplay is lacking in any way. It blossomed on me too. It has a familiar feeling to other western action-RPGS, but it is a very good interpretation of those similarly-styled games. The jetpack in particular is a fantastic addition that I found myself rushing to upgrade as quickly as possible. Being able to zip around and fight enemies from the air was a blast. The system of upgrading attributes that then open up opportunities to learn new skills from different NPCs makes it so that leveling up is more nuanced than it would be if you unlocked the attributes directly, but I can see how some might not immediately acclimate to it. Combat is fun but can be somewhat repetitive if it goes on for too long. Though mixing up weapons does mix it up some. I typically play these games with a stealth orientation, but I really liked just diving in and going full aggro in here, but part of that might have been that I found there to be no real benefit to sneaking up on anything.

Verdict

I have had a harder time deciding on a review rating for Elex 2 than I have had for any game I have reviewed so far. It had probably the poorest start to a game I’ve seen in a while, but if you can get past it, I think RPG fans will really enjoy what’s there. But truth be told, I don’t know how much it will convince anyone who isn’t a fan of the genre. I am disappointed that this game is coming out in such a crowded time because I think it deserves some of the attention that is going elsewhere right now. Hopefully people to whom the game will appeal don’t miss out, and I really hope that THQ Nordic authorizes another sequel because I can tell you that I would love to dive back in Jax’s shoes.

Score: 7.5/10

Pros:

  • Interesting Story and Characters
  • Solid Combat and Character Progression
  • Uneven But Still Attractive Looking Environments
  • The Jet Pack

Cons:

  • Rough First Two Hours
  • General Jankiness

WWE 2K22 MyFACTION Mode Details and Quick Guide Revealed

With its launch just a mere few days away, Visual Concepts and 2K Games have released details on the WWE 2K22 MyFACTION mode, a new mode coming to the series, in addition to a quick guide to help players get started! Check out details on this new mode below, which will give you a taste of what to expect before WWE 2K22 launches this March 11.

First up, what exactly is the MyFACTION mode in WWE 2K22?

MyFACTION is a new take on a classic team-building mode in which players collect, manage, and upgrade an array of WWE Superstars and Legends to create their ultimate four-person factions. Managers and Side Plates boost performance, while Logos, Wallpapers, and Nameplates allow for creative customization.

Here are some tips to remember once you get into the mode:

  • Players must make important choices when it comes to selecting the best Superstars for their factions and deploying the right boosts to take down the competition;
  • In need of some major muscle? Draft your favorite Powerhouse into action, like Big E or Rhea Ripley. If speed and devastating martial arts are in order, a Striker like Shinsuke Nakamura may be the way to go;
  • Between a roster packed with Superstars and Legends, and a wide range of specialized Side Plates, countless combinations are available, and experimentation is encouraged.

2K also revealed that there will be three types of currencies available in MyFACTION:

  • MyFACTION Points – which can be exchanged for card packs and contracts – are awarded for completing matches and challenges;
  • MyFACTION Tokens – which can be used in the Token Rewards market to unlock powerful WWE Superstar and Legend cards – are also awarded for completing matches and challenges; and
  • Virtual Currency – which is available for purchase and can be used exclusively in MyFACTION on card packs, boxes, and contracts.

Additional rewards can be earned in certain MyFACTION modes, including Weekly Towers and Faction Wars, where exciting, limited-time rewards refresh each month. New themed card packs will roll out frequently, offering players a legion of current Superstars and beloved Legends to add to their collections.

There you have it. If you’re looking forward to something different with this latest release in the WWE 2K franchise, then MyFACTION may just be right up your alley.

WWE 2K22 launches on consoles and PC this March 11, with Deluxe Edition and nWo 4-Life Digital Edition holders being able to play early on March 8.

Gran Turismo 7 Won’t Be Available in Russia, Sony Pulls Racer Due to On-Going War

Polyphony Digital’s newest entry to their long-running racing series releases today, but it appears that there’s one country that won’t be able to play it, as Gran Turismo 7 has been pulled from the Russia PlayStation Store by Sony. The most surprising thing about the delisting is the fact that Sony has not made any announcements regarding it, and it took players in Russia discovering it for themselves.

Below is a screenshot taken directly from the Russia PlayStation Store showing that while Gran Turismo 7 is still up, it’s unavailable to purchase:

The text below reads as: “Release date Pending confirmation.”

It’s unclear yet if Sony intends to make a public statement on Gran Turismo 7 in the region’s storefront, so stay tuned for more updates. Together with Bloober Team and CD Projekt RED yesterday, Sony is the third high-profile publisher to pull their game sales in Russia amidst its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

This move can also be attributed to the Ukrainian Deputy PM’s open letter to the gaming industry a few days ago, in which he calls for solidarity to temporarily block Russia from the game industry at large. In case you missed it, you can read more about it here.

Check out our review of Gran Turismo 7 here, where James wrote, “Gran Turismo 7 represents a true return to form for Polyphony Digital. Despite being the seventh mainline iteration, the team is still able to keep the series feeling fresh with its new coat of paint and innovative technology with its new weather system (and even a new AI tech called “Sophy”). For Gran Turismo players out there thinking this might be a half step measure, it’s not; it’s a full blown experience and so much more. It’s an essential must-play for any fan out there and it just might be my favorite Gran Turismo thus far.”

Elden Ring New Trailer Shows Ming-Na Wen Training to Become Elden Lord

Over the past week, millions of players around the world rose up to try and become the Elden Lord, and Bandai Namco has revealed an Elden Ring new trailer showing actress Ming-Na Wen (Joy Luck Club, Street Figher) training to become one herself! Check out the trailer below to see what’s it all about.

Besides this new trailer for Elden Ring, Ming-Na Wen is best known for her long career as a Chinese-American actress in Hollywood. She voice Fa Mulan in the animated movie of the same name, but her most recent role in recent years was in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, the ABC series that revolves around the SHIELD organization, where she plays Melinda May. She also played Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, two Disney+ series set in the expansive Star Wars universe.

If you haven’t played Elden Ring yet, you’ll want to give it a go, check out our review of it here, where Sean wrote, “It’s remarkable how well From has managed to expand to a truly open world while keeping their core gameplay intact as well as building on top of it in one massive and impressively polished package. Elden Ring is clearly the culmination of FromSoftware’s past 13 years of experience and development philosophy of the souls franchise. Miyazaki and FromSoftware have crafted something so massive, special, wondrous and triumphant that it’s unfathomable how they can top it. Easily FromSoftware’s best game to date and a genuine masterpiece.”

Rumor: Destiny 2 Vow of the Disciple Raid Details Leaked Online

Possible spoiler territory ahead, as it appears that the Destiny 2 Vow of the Disciple raid details have leaked online! The leak details information such as the various raid encounters, the emblems players will receive, the models and assets for the bosses, pieces of the end cutscene, and more, all datamined by a group from the D2 Leaks Discord server. Check them all out below – at your own risk, of course.

The video from Aussiehalo compiles all of the known leaks for the Vow of the Disciple raid for Destiny 2, although he mentions in the description that:

First and foremost, this is accessible and public information to the credit of the D2 Leaks Discord Sever and their various contributors, and Entity for the cutscene images. Their server can be found here: https://discord.gg/mc82YX32Vk

Secondly, some of this information may be subject to change or a little different once it is live in game, so please keep that in mind. But for the most part we are all fairly confident that this is accurate.

Some of the more pertinent information include:

  • The first and second bosses’ names: Scorn Caretaker and First Disciple, Rhulk, respectively. Rhulk will be the second and final boss, which means that there will be three separate boss encounters.
  • Models for both the Scorn Caretaker and Rhulk were shown.
  • A detailed breakdown of the raid encounters. It appears that it ill start in a barge, followed by the Necropolis, followed by the first boss. Then, players will traverse the Archive, traverse a jumping puzzle, and initiate something called an “Origin Encounter.” Finally, another area shift to where the final boss waits.
  • A new Raid Exotic called Collective Obligation was also leaked. It’s an aggressive pulse rifle, with an ornament called “In Finality.”
  • Conceptual art from the End Raid cutscene was also shown, which reveals Guardians fighting against Rhulk.
  • Completion Emblems for the raid. The Cleaver for regular, and Light of the Dark Sun for the 24-hour achievement.
  • Raid armor models were also shown.

Finally, a parting paragraph was also shown in the end, which shares a teaser of what’s to come next for The Witch Queen:

The Subjugators story will begin after the raid during week 3, with the enclave having a secret puzzle. It will culminate 5 weeks later with us having to survive an incursion on the enclave.

There you have it. As is the case with these rumors, take everything here with a grain of salt until officially confirmed. In case you missed it, check out the latest patch notes for Destiny 2 here, which was released earlier today after a maintenance period.

Black Ops Cold War New Content Announced, WMD Map & New Weapon Out Tomorrow

Here’s an interesting twist: Activision has today announced Black Ops Cold War new content, and nope, it’s not cosmetic bundles or anything, but in the form of a new map (sort of) and a new weapon! And yes, the new content is free for everyone, and is set to be available tomorrow.

According to Activision, a new update will be released tomorrow (wasn’t specified whether this is a server-side or client-side update) that will bring in the WMD map from Black Ops 1, and the all-new assault rifle the Vargo 52.

Black Ops Cold War New Content for 2022 Details:

General Layout of WMD:

At match start, teams spawn on the left- and right-hand sides of the map, with the left giving immediate access to the Crane and Research power positions and the right side giving immediate access to Silo, Shipment, and Production. The top and bottom paths are equally accessible to both teams.

Many objective modes feature locations on the ground floor in particularly vulnerable areas, considering the map’s many vantage points. A variety of objects offer cover when traveling these high-risk paths, which savvy Operators will certainly take note of when it comes time to push the attack.

Vargo 52 – How to Unlock:

The Vargo 52 is one mean weapon, and it’s particularly effective where versatile equipment reigns – and in Zombies, it can be one of the most devastating assault rifles in the game with the right suite of attachments. Here’s its in-game description: Full-auto assault rifle. Good damage at mid-range with a fast fire rate. Improved muzzle velocity and reliable handling for steady firing control.

And here’s how to unlock the base version in Multiplayer and Zombies:

In Multiplayer:

Using Assault Rifles, deal 1000 damage in 15 different completed matches.

In Zombies:

Eliminate 750 enemies while using an Assault Rifle that has been Pack-a-Punched three times.

Top Tips

  1. Down a Touch. Featuring a predictable upward recoil pattern, it takes just a slight downward press to maintain a straight shot through sustained fire. This is great for long sightlines allowing you, with practice, to be just as lethal at distant fights as you are in midrange battles.
  2. Barrel and a Flashlight. Further improve the Vargo 52’s effectiveness at range by combining the 17.1” VDV Reinforced Barrel attachment paired with a body attachment that increases enemy Reveal Distance. You’ll get a big boost to your effective damage range and bullet velocity, and you’ll see targets at a greater distance when aiming down sights, perfect for dislodging those pesky snipers.
  3. More Rounds, Please. As a fast-firing weapon, it’s easy to chew through your ammo reserves in the heat of battle. You can tackle that issue in a number of ways, either through the Danger Close Wildcard, the Assault Pack Field Upgrade, the Scavenger Perk, or a Magazine attachment that offers more starting ammo. Take your pick and stay in the fight.

There’s also a new weapon bundle set to be released tomorrow called the “Ferrofluid” Weapon Blueprint as part of the “Tracer Pack: Ferro Fury Reactive Mastercraft” Bundle, which is set to go live tomorrow, March 4, too. If you’re interested in snagging that, the bundle will include the following:

  • The “Viscosideath” LMG Blueprint
  • The “Liquid Metal” SMG Blueprint
  • “Bullet Magnet” Charm
  • “Cranial Magnetism” animated Calling Card
  • The “Ferro-Charlie” Sticker
  • The “Spiked” Reticle
  • The “Fluid Manipulation” Gesture.

If there is a title update out for this new content, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Speaking of updates, a new server-side one was released for Warzone that introduced a nunber of fixes.
