Ghostrunner Update 1.000.005 Parkours Out for Project_Hel This March 3

PS5 players rejoice, as One More Level has just released the Ghostrunner update 1.000.005 patch notes this March 4, and this one is for the highly anticipated Project_Hel DLC! Check out the full release notes on this latest patch below.

Ghostrunner Update 1.000.005 Patch Notes | Ghostrunner Project_Hel Patch Notes | Ghostrunner March 3 Patch Notes:

Return to the dystopian Dharma Tower as a brutally powerful antihero in a new campaign for $14.99/€14.99/£12.49 across console and PC platforms globally.

Just prior to the events of the original Ghostrunner storyline, a combat android known as Hel begins her own violent mission: quelling a rebellion at the base of the tower-city. Yet Hel’s true motivation takes root in hatred toward the creators keeping her chained between assignments. Internal programming keeps her from slaughtering them outright, so she begrudgingly follows orders while looking for loopholes to disrupt her creators’ grand plans.
Unlike regular Ghostrunners, Hel contains no biological parts, instead driven by a cobbled-together AI rendering her unstable, impulsive, and angry. These traits manifest in Project_Hel’s new Rage bar. Fill it up by killing enemies to gain abilities injecting fresh blood into Ghostrunner’s one-hit-one-kill combat. Reject death with the attack-negating Shield, bypass enemy defenses with Unblockable strikes, and strike from afar with devastating energy Surges.
Instead of using a Gap Jammer grappling hook like original protagonist Jack, Hel’s powerful Super Jump provides aggressive movement capabilities both for traversal and combat. She can also air dash significantly further and use a Sensory Boost to quickly visualize their trajectory. These differences give Hel her own feel and style appealing to Ghostrunner veterans and newcomers alike. Upgrade her capabilities even further with a revamped progression system.
Face off against new challengers, including four enemy types and two bosses. Carve through the seven imaginative levels while mastering Hel’s intricacies and rebelling against her creators. Ascend the neon cityscapes to the tune of additional tracks from electronic artist Daniel Deluxe. Uncover more context in this action-packed prequel story by gathering hidden collectibles. Learn how Hel rises to become one of the toughest bosses in the original Ghostrunner plot.

That’s about it for the latest patch. We’ll update this post accordingly if there are any more notes released by the studio, especially in terms of fixes or other changes.

COD Warzone March 3 Update Adds Rebirth Iron Trials, UAVs in Buy Stations & More

Raven Software has deployed the COD Warzone March 3 update, and this is after yesterday’s client-side patch that brought in bug and exploit fixes. Also of note, today’s update, which is via server-side, is adding Rebirth Iron Trials. Read on for the latest Warzone update patch notes below.

COD Warzone March 3 Update Patch Notes:

MODES:

Vanguard Royale

The adjustments detailed in our March 2nd patch notes will be going live today with the Playlist update at Noon PST.

That said, we’ve made one final change:

  • UAV’s are now available in Buy Stations for $6,000

Upon further discussion, our team has decided to reintroduce UAVs at the lower price point of $6,000 to monitor match pacing closer to the original design. Once we’ve gathered enough data, we’ll make the subsequent decision as to whether or not we follow through with the proposed increase to $9,000.

Providing Players with a fun and consistent long-term experience can sometimes take a little bit of short-term experimentation!

Rebirth Iron Trials

The Iron Trials make a glorious return today as part of the March 3rd Playlist update – this time to Rebirth Island!

At its core, Rebirth Iron Trials is a Battle Royale game mode — the last team standing wins, the Circle Collapse shrinks the playable area to promote engagements, and those who die earlier in the game have a chance to respawn if they win a duel in the Rebirth Island Gulag.

However, Iron Trials brings numerous fundamental changes to this traditional Battle Royale formula. All of them are meant to give players the chance to prove themselves as truly elite Operators — here’s what they are specifically:

General:

  • Match Duration & Circle Collapse
    • Round Timers have been adjusted to reflect the scale of the Rebirth Island map and increased for the pacing of the game.
  • Loadouts
    • No free Loadout Drops — those who want to use their custom-built weaponry and gain access to Perks will need to purchase one at a premium.
    • Vehicles
      • Only ATVs are available.
    • Buy Stations
      • Elite Operators are known to be high rollers. The Buy Station increased their prices accordingly:
    • Armor Bundle
      • $1,500 to $2,000
    • Gas Mask
      • $3,000 to $4,000
    • Cluster Strike
      • $3,000 to $4,000
    • Precision Strike
      • $3,500 to $4,500
    • Self Revive
      • $4,000 to $5,000
    • UAV
      • $4,000 to $6,000
    • Loadout Drop Marker
      • $7,500 to $10,000 in Rebirth Island
    • Specialist Token
      • $30,000
  • Cash
    • The amount of Cash retained on death has been increased from 20% to 30%. Players will keep more of their hard-earned Cash.
  • Melee
    • Melee Finisher Damage has been removed. Settle the score with lead.

Operator

  • Base Health
    • Compared to a normal match, all players’ base health is increased from 100 to 250.
  • Health Regeneration
    • The regen delay timer has been increased from 5 to 7 seconds and regen per second has been decreased from 120 per second to 40. It may be wise for players to reconsider preferred Perks and Equipment.
  • Starting Equipment
    • Players drop in with a Top Break (VG) & Sawtooth (VG).

Loot

  • Overall
    • The item pool for Supply Boxes and items found on the ground have been significantly altered from that seen in standard play.
  • Basic Attachments
    • Common Weapons will start with an Attachment – mostly to provide their max magazine size.
  • Rarity Spawn Rates
    • Epic and Legendary weapons are now harder to find. Players will have to open a few more boxes than usual to find what they’re looking for.
  • Killstreaks
    • Drop rates have been reduced. Time to stop spamming UAVs and to start putting those senses to the test.
  • Cash Spawns
    • Larger piles of cash are rarer. Players will have to stay on top of scavenging for cash if they plan to afford a Loadout.
  • Field Upgrades
    • No Dead Silence. No Stopping Power Rounds. Period.

Equipment

  • Sniper Rifles
    • A single headshot from a Sniper Rifle will only down an enemy if they are within 30 meters. This gives time for those on the receiving end of a longshot to react – the most elite snipers will be able to adjust their strategies accordingly and still dish out lethal damage at long range with precise follow-up shots.
  • Stun Grenades
    • Stun effect duration decreased by 50%.
  • Medical Syringes
    • Health regeneration rate decreased by 50%. Upon taking non-Incendiary, direct damage from another Player (Tactical Equipment splash damage does not count), the Medical Syringe’s increased health regeneration effects will be canceled and standard health regeneration will begin–which can be interrupted by any source of damage. Additionally, the movement speed bonus gained when using a Medical Syringe has been decreased from 8% to 3%.

When Iron Trials was last with us, Medical Syringes were the go-to Tactical Equipment. We would like to experiment with reducing their effectiveness to see how this impacts gameplay and Equipment viability in the hands of Rebirth Island’s most seasoned veterans. We will be monitoring this change closely to ensure it does not have a net negative impact on the gameplay experience Trials Players have come to expect.

Gulag

  • Loadouts
    • No akimbo. No semi-auto or fully auto Shotguns. Limited selection of Tactical Equipment. It’s down to the bare essentials and the will to survive.
  • Redeployment
    • If players happen to survive their Gulag match, they’ll redeploy with whatever equipment is leftover from that fight. Be mindful of those resources.

Squad Size

  • Duos
    • We want players to really feel the impact of the increased Time-to-Kill. You only get to pick one squadmate… so choose wisely and watch each other’s backs.

Unique Animated Calling Card Reward

For Rebirth Iron Trials victors, there’s an exclusive new Animated Calling Card to flex your prowess in winning the trial.

For tips and tricks on how to improve your chances of winning, check out the official Call of Duty Iron Trials Guide!

BUG FIXES:

  • Fixed an issue causing the Unlock Criteria progress bar for some Weapon Attachments and Camos to display placeholder text.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the popup icon for certain game settings to not appear in the menu.
    • Affected settings include Brightness, Colorblind Type, Audio Mix, Hit Marker Sound Effects, Button Layout, and Stick Layout Preset
  • Fixed an issue causing the total Cash collected on the Player scoreboard to appear misaligned.
  • Fixed an issue in private matches preventing the Helicopter on top of Peak from being able to take off properly.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder descriptions to appear on various Calling Cards.
  • Fixed the rarity label on various Blueprints and Calling Cards.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Field Upgrades from working correctly while holding a Gasoline Can.

CD Projekt RED Halts Sales of Games in Russia and Belarus Amid Russia-Ukraine War

More and more gaming companies are beginning to show their support for Ukraine, with CD Projekt RED now halting sales of their games in Russian and Belarus to show their solidarity against the invasion. Check out the announcement directly from their Twitter below:

In light of the Russian military invasion in our neighboring country of Ukraine, until further notice the CD Projekt Group has made the decision to halt all sales of our games to Russia and Belarus. Today, we begin working with our partners to suspend digital sales and cease physical stock deliveries of CD Projekt Group products, as well as all games distributed on the GOG platform, to the territories of Russia and Belarus.

The entire CD Projekt Group stands firm with the people of Ukraine. While we are not a political entity capable of directly influencing state matters, and don’t aspire to be one, we do believe that commercial entities, when united, have the power to inspire global change in the hearts and minds of ordinary people. We know that players in Russia and Belarus, individuals who have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine, will be impacted by this decision, but with this action we wish to further galvanice the global community to speak about what is going on in the heart of Europe.

To our brothers and sisters fighting for their home country – stay strong!

As is the case with Bloober Team’s own rescinding of game sales in Russia and Belarus earlier today, CD Projekt RED’s announcement was met with some criticism in the same thread. Many are asking how preventing players from buying games are going to help Ukraine, with some even pointing out the same thing that was mentioned in Bloober Team’s announcement: that the sales for these games in these countries could’ve went towards proceeds for donations to Ukraine.

In other Ukraine-related gaming news, GSC Game World recently announced another delay for STALKER 2, and you can read all about it here.

Dauntless Update 1.78 Patch Notes; Out for 1.9.3 & More This March 3

Phoenix Labs has released Dauntless update 1.78 this March 3, and this one is for Patch 1.9.3! This brings new changes, fixes, and more to the game, so head down below for the complete patch notes on this latest update.

Dauntless Update 1.78 Patch Notes | Dauntless Update 1.9.3 Patch Notes | Dauntless March 3 Patch Notes:

New to Dauntless

Balance

Aether Surge Island Events

Aether Surge Island Events

As the standard event on most islands, Aether Surge still had some odd inconsistencies and restrictions that prevented it from being an exciting moment while adventuring. We’ve updated the way these events identify pools of available behemoths to increase variety while maintaining the identity of each island.

  • All Aether Surge events are now 3 rounds (some were 4).
  • Round 1 is a solo Behemoth fight.
  • Round 2 is a fauna wave.
  • Round 3 is a dual Behemoth fight.
  • Generated new, expanded Behemoth pools for all Aether Surge events.

Chain Blades

Chain Blades

Due to animation changes in patch 1.9.0, Lacerating Onslaught generated too much meter and made it out-perform Blade Spin in terms of DPS. We have rebalanced meter generation for Lacerating Onslaught and buffed Blade Spin so that the latter is the top DPS combo once again.

  • Increased Blade Spin damage per hit from 65 to 85.
  • Decreased meter generation from Lacerating Onslaught attacks from 10/10(x2)/30 to 10/8(x2)/20.

Gnasher

Gnasher

  • Ragetail Gnasher’s tail attacks now send shockwaves that only travel in the direction the tail is facing during each slam. This should prevent cases where a Slayer dodges a tail attack only to be hit by the shockwave. Rejoice.

Koshai

Koshai

  • Increased the toughness of Shadowtouched Koshai’s antlers slightly since they don’t grow back like the regular, thorny Koshai’s do.
  • All Koshai tail attacks now have clearer tells.

Fauna

Fauna

  • Styxian pounces are now much shorter, do more damage up front, and no longer require a button-mash to escape.
Quality of Life

Chain Blades

Chain Blades

  • Swinging Blades returns, with some adjustments. Hold light attack when you’re not in the middle of another combo to perform Swinging Blades. Which is a fancy way of saying “swing your blades with reckless abandon.”

Gliders

Gliders

  • Added three new Expert Handling nodes at Milestone IX in the Slayer’s Path. Each node reduces the stamina cost of gliding.
  • Made swoops and dives more dynamic and responsive.
  • Improved the glider collision system to prevent unexpected crashes.
Bug Fixes

Koshai

Koshai

  • Koshai’s antlers can no longer be severed when they aren’t fully grown.
  • Shadowtouched Koshai’s antlers can now be targeted and are now a distinct break from the head.

Kharabak

Kharabak

  • Fixed an issue where Kharabak’s aethercharged blades could be hit before they appear.

Behemoths

Behemoths

  • Fixed some issues where Behemoths would get stuck near walls.
  • Fixed an issue where “on kill” part rewards would get bigger when hunting the same Behemoth multiple times in a row. Bonus loot rolls now reset properly.
  • Fixed an issue where Behemoths that crawled out of the ground would enter arenas in strange ways.

Gameplay

Gameplay

  • Frost Sprites spawned by Boreus weapons now clean up properly when switching weapons.

Quests

Quests

  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to “hand in” the same item for multiple quests.

Achievements/Trophies

Achievements/Trophies

  • The “Buy Low, Cell High” achievement/trophy now correctly unlocks when you exchange an epic cell.

UI

UI

  • The Reforge celebration will no longer appear for players when another player reforges after them.
  • Frostwülf and Sahvyt weapon unique effects now display the correct values when inspected.

That’s about it for the patch.

Elden Ring PlayStation Sales Reach Almost 280K in Japan in Its First Week

FromSoftware’s latest title continues to be a powerhouse nearly a week after its release, as Elden Ring PlayStation sales have been revealed to have reached almost 280K in Japan during its first week! This is the strongest sales week for the studio in Japan across their history of games, and you can read more details on it below.

As initially reported on Famitsu with translations by Nibel over on Twitter, Elden Ring sales on PS4 in its first week totalled 188,490, while on PS5 it sold 90,017. Combined, this figure reaches 278,507, an impressive feat and a new high for FromSoftware, as noted by Nibel. It’s important to note that these figures also make up the physical sales of the game, and it’s not a stretch to consider that digital numbers may have reached higher.

https://twitter.com/nibellion/status/1499372152495222785?s=21

For Japan numbers, this is especially impressive. FromSoftware’s second higest selling title in Japan according to the Game Data Library is Dark Souls 2, which sold 256,701 when it first release for the PS3.

PlayStation is not the only platform in which Elden Ring really blasted off, as it also reported record high Steam numbers, reaching 750K players on its launch day. Read more about it here.

Bloober Team Blocks Its Game Sales in Russia and Belarus

As a direct response to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, have blocked its game sales in Russia and Belarus. Bloober Team is the  next in a line of developers and publishers imposing some sort of restriction on Russia as the country continues its war against Ukraine.

Announced by the studio via a Twitter thread, here’s what they had to say:

Dear community,

(1/5) As the Russian unprovoked invasion of Ukraine continues, killing defenders and civilians alike, we at Bloober Team have decided to stop selling our titles in Russia and Belarus across all platforms.

(2/5) We’ve been working with our partners to put the games down from the stores in these countries – the ban coming into effect first on Steam. Our hearts are with the Ukrainian people and this is one of several steps we’re currently taking to support them. #TheMediumGame

(3/5) We understand that our decision might affect many Russian and Belarussian players who are not involved in this invasion, but we strongly believe that every step that can help stop the war is worth taking… #BlairWitch

(4/5) – this includes showing a full solidarity with the Ukrainian people both with words and actions, as well as creating pressure on the Russian and Belarussian public opinion. #ObserverSR

(5/5) We believe a global joint resistance can help make a difference. We want to be a part of a world that doesn’t turn a blind eye to warmongering. And we won’t stay neutral when human lives are at stake. #gamedevelopment

What’s interesting about the studio’s move is that they are the first high-profile developer who went so far as to ban the sales of their games in Russia. Yesterday, EA has announced that it will just remove the Russia National Team and Russian clubs from FIFA. While there has been a call from the Deputy PM of Ukraine to cut off Russia from the games industry, Bloober Team looks to be the first to actively participate in the blocking.

This move has not gone over well with  commenters in the Twitter thread, with some questioning how blocking their game sales will help support Ukraine. One has also pointed out that they could have also easily made it so that the proceeds from sales in Russia and Belarus go towards Ukrainian support, which is null now that the game is no longer available for purchase in those countries.

In case you missed it, STALKER 2 developer and Ukraine-based GSC Game World yesterday announced the game’s delay as they shift focus to helping their families and employees survive. You can read all about it here.

The vehicle-building advance physics destruction title Instruments of Destruction has launched out today on Steam Early Access, and developer Radiangames has also unveiled an accompanying launch trailer! Check it out below as well as some of the features you can expect from the early access release.

Here are the features of Instruments of Destruction as per its official page on Steam:

Advanced Physics and Destruction
Thanks to a heavy focus on physics and interactivity, along with a recent switch to using GPU-accelerated particles and other systems, Instruments of Destruction stands out in the vehicle building genre.  Not only does it feature advanced real-time destruction, but it also lets players use rarely-seen physics objects such as fully-simulated ropes and chains to build whatever vehicles or mechanisms the players’ can imagine.

STALKER 2 Delayed Once Again as Devs ‘Striving to Help Employees & Families to Survive’ Amid Russia-Ukraine War

GSC Game World, which is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, recently urged gamers and the gaming industry at large to stand with them, as Russia started its invasion, but now it appears that the effects of this war are now being felt with STALKER 2 delayed once again. In a new commentary-backed video, the studio reiteratesd that they are now in the process of just helping their employees and families to survive, and you can check out that video below.

Here is the video confirming that STALKER 2 has been delayed:

Aptly titled ‘Lights! Camera! War..’ the footage shows some behind-the-scenes for the studio as it shot some motion capture for the game. However, as GSC Game World put it, development has  been put on hold due to the devastation brought about by the invasion of Ukraine:

This video is our answer to [the] ‘how are you guys?’ question. Now we are striving to help our employees and their families to survive.

The game development shifted to the sidelines. But we will definitely continue. After the victory. Glory to Ukraine.

The ongoing war has began to affect the gaming industry at large. Earlier today, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine urged PlayStation, Xbox, and the gaming industry to stand with them in cutting off Russia in the hopes of pressuring the latter as it continues its invasion of the former. You can read the Deputy PM’s open letter here.

With this new delay, STALKER 2 may have moved to a 2023 release window. It was previously announced to be coming to consoles and PC this December 8, 2022.

EA Removes Russia National Team and Russian Clubs from FIFA

Following the plea from the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine earlier today, EA has now complied as part of tha major gaming industry and removed the Russia National Team and all Russian clubs from their football sports title FIFA. The decision was announced via a Twitter post, which you can check out below:

EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.

In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian National Team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile, and FIFA Online. We’re also actively evaluating related changes to other areas of our games.

We will keep our communities up to date on any actions taken, and thank players for their patience as we work through these updates.

Despite the obvious split between EA and FIFA the football organization, it’s good to know that they can still stand in solidarity in times like this as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine. You might recall that EA CEO Andrew Wilson was recently quoted in an internal meeting calling the FIFA brand an “impediment” on their football franchise, and you can read all about it here.

In case you missed it, check out Title Update 6.1 for FIFA 22 here, which brings a number of changes and fixes to the game.

Gran Turismo 7 Review – The King Returns (PS5)

It’s remarkable to believe that 25 years has passed since the release of the first Gran Turismo game on the PS1. At the time, it was a revolutionary racer, not only in the insane visual presentation that seemed lifelike back then, but for doing something different than the competition. It gave players a glimpse at the real racing world by proving to be more of a simulator, rather than an arcade racer like so many others of that era.

It was a first; nothing like anything else we’ve seen, and in those 25 years, Gran Turismo has continued to flourish into being one of the best racing sims around. However, with recent releases, the series has somewhat taken a bit of a backseat, even going as far as pulling back on staple features in the spinoff, Gran Turismo Sport. Because of this, reception have been rather mixed on the recent iterations, with players looking to other sims such as Forza Motorsport and Project Cars. Gran Turismo still held strong in popularity, but one could argue that it wasn’t the best racing sim on the market anymore.

That certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Polyphony Digital have taken that feedback to heart giving it their all in the latest Gran Turismo. To summarize my Gran Turismo 7 experience in a few short words; The King Is Back.

A Story Stretching Across All of Automotive History

Traditionally, Gran Turismo has always featured some form of solo play. Be that in the license mode where players can learn the ins and outs of Gran Turismo, or career modes such as A and B-specs where racers could take on unique challenges, as well as manage a race team consisting of AI drivers. Whatever the mode offered, nearly every Gran Turismo has had a large amount of solo play for the lone gamer not interested in online play.

That did change with Gran Turismo Sport however, as the title was predominantly focused on the online competitive aspect of the series. A big shift, that certainly left many feeling disappointed. While GT7 still has online requirements, suffice to say, Polyphony Digital has made a return to those single-player offerings in a grand way.

Dubbed as the Gran Turismo Café, it is here where players will find the beef of their solo campaign venture, as not only does it introduce players to the core mechanics and inner workings of all the various modes, but also provides them with a unique story deeply rooted with historical events.

Taking on the first of many quests that come in the form of menu items, players will be tasked with completing certain types of races and objectives. Most of them centered around races, though some in-between will see drivers exploring modes as Scrape, or fine tuning their vehicles in the shop.

Regardless of what the objective may be, you’ll typically be rewarded a set of vehicles by the end of it. The goal of these menu items are to essentially unlock a collection of vehicles that will be usable once unlocked. A natural form of progression outside of earning credits and outright buying the vehicles. However, the true highlight of this mode comes from the pieces of history that is given to you once you’ve completed a menu item.

For the common non-racing fan out there this may be a bit boring, but as a fellow car and series enthusiast, I have to say this is quite brilliant on Polyphony Digital. History has always played an integral role in shaping Gran Turismo, but as a player we never quite understood that. We got our collection of vehicles to drive in, with some incredibly fun gameplay, and maybe a brief cinematic intro showcasing some of that history in past Gran Turismo. GT7, however, is crammed with it, with menu items showcasing these vehicles and lessons that are greatly filled with factual details.

It’s awesome, and in the grand arc, makes a ton of sense given the types of game that Gran Turismo is. Sure, it’s not an epic cinematic tale, or a story filled with massive set pieces where planes swoop in, but it doesn’t have to be, because again, this is a simulator. The Gran Turismo Café is a welcome addition, one that we hope continues to serve the franchise going forward.

Café isn’t the only mode that racers should expect as the license center returns in full fashion, as do solo missions, scrapes, and solo circuits. Of course if you are leaning towards the competitive side of things you can take the action online, but there is a new “Sport” mode which takes heavily from the aspect of Gran Turismo Sport and provides racers with entries into certain events and such.

Gripping Physics

If you’ve followed and played any of the recent Gran Turismo titles, then going into GT7 will be all too familiar. That’s no surprise, considering that Polyphony Digital have had the series’ physics nailed down for sometime now, but it has still had some needed improvements here and there. GT7 is very comparable to GT Sport, and whether you liked the physics there or not should give you the answer for how GT7 handles.

However, Polyphony Digital has some improvements, which should be noticeable to GT Sport players.

For one, cornering and in general, oversteering doesn’t feel as unwieldy as before. Making my way through the plethora of available tracks, I found the experience of driving around the tracks to be more “tamed” in a sense of control. While I did, and still do, experience quite a bit of crashes, I did find that I wasn’t spinning out as frequently before. Taking on corners feel “easier” in a sense that if I do happen to be taking it on too fast, I have ample amount of time to correct the course without going off-road.

On the other hand, despite being more accessible, GT7 is by no means an easy racer. AI on the higher difficulty will aggressively attempt to block, and if overtaken, chase you, providing you with a full hands-on-the-wheel experience, as the tiniest mistake could mean a complete loss. They’re smart, as they are vicious to deal with and long time fans will undoubtedly feel the challenge they so desperately lust for.

Of course with the new expanded tuning and car customization that GT7 has to offer, there are plenty of ways to overcome those challenges, as long as the vehicle stays within the predetermined rule set. Being able to modify car tires to provide more or less grips, engine for more horsepower, brakes for betting stopping, chassis for lighter or heavier vehicles, and so much more. Each modification provides a different experience that can be felt on the asphalt.

And finally the weather system. The weather system and dynamic day and night cycle is by far one of the biggest improvements the series has made in GT7. The day and night cycle provide players with a sense of a dynamic world, though that is something that they should be familiar with. However, coupling it with the weather system, you’ll find that there is a robust new set of improvements. Take rain for example. Rain is nothing new to the GT franchise, but under GT7 it truly shines as road conditions become slick and slippery. It’s easy to get caught up driving down a straight at 180 MPH, only to hit a puddle, or begin hydroplaning and crash moments later.

What makes the weather system so damn good though is how it affects the tracks dynamically. Morning dew for example will leave small light patches of wet spot, nothing drastic but it’s there. As you progress through a track, the weather system will begin to show greater effects. Bright and sunny provides dry tracks, whereas cloudy and rainy will give off that slipperiness. But like in real-life, tracks don’t stay like that the entire duration of the day, and as the day transitions, the track itself begins to evolve. Corners that were hard to take on due to the rain now become grippier, and easier to take. Likewise in some areas where the rain provided advantages, so does the dry heat now bring disadvantages. It’s a dynamic that certainly provides players with an extensive form of play.

An All-DualSense Terrain

I’m the kind of Gran Turismo player who has been a part of the franchise since its inception to know that the best way to play is to use a racing set-up. Nothing beats that level of immersion and precision that a racing wheel can provide. However, given that PlayStation has produced one of the most innovative controllers on the market, I just had to try playing with the DualSense controller. It feels fantastic, and I’m a bit at a divide with swapping back and forth between both controller set-ups.

Driving around and feeling the vibration of the different vibration of either the tarmac, gravel, grass, and even dirt roads which make a return felt incredible. The triggers also provided resistance when pressed down, as well as a click during gear shifting. What I loved especially was playing in first-person and driving in a car with gear paddles. I would see the in-gamer shift gear all while at the same time a click would be felt in the controller.

Again, the DualSense features are absolutely fantastic, and anyone hopping on GT7 who doesn’t have a racing wheel should no doubt play using the DualSense.

The King of Visuals

If there is one thing that everyone knows the Gran Turismo series for, then it would have to be for it’s incredibly photorealistic visuals. Gran Turismo 7 is an absolute jaw-dropper.

It shouldn’t be a surprise considering that Polyphony Digital has always strived at being the best racer visually on the market, and they’ve certainly managed to do just that. Running at a smooth 60 frames-per-second on the PS5, Gran Turismo 7 is a graphical showcase.

Details are rich in the environments with no indication of any 2D models tucked away. Of course, what shines the most are the highly detailed vehicles themselves, which all now sport interiors. The upholstery looks phenomenal when playing in first-person view. Simply put: I am in awe at the level of detail that Polyphony Digital has put into each vehicle.

What’s more there is a ray-tracing mode that adds a level of reflection unseen in the Gran Turismo franchise yet. Messing around in the Scrapes (the mode where you can set a car to your picking in a realistic backdrop) has never been more addictive to play around in.

Gran Turismo is visually astonishing to say the least. The only thing I do wish was that the rain effects in first-person were a bit more impactful, as Driveclub still holds strong the title of best rain effect in a racer in my opinion.

Verdict

Gran Turismo 7 represents a true return to form for Polyphony Digital. Despite being the seventh mainline iteration, the team is still able to keep the series feeling fresh with its new coat of paint and innovative technology with its new weather system (and even a new AI tech called “Sophy”). For Gran Turismo players out there thinking this might be a half step measure, it’s not; it’s a full blown experience and so much more. It’s an essential must-play for any fan out there and it just might be my favorite Gran Turismo thus far.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Top notch physics, and a weather system that ties into it deeply.
  • Solo-campaign comes back in full fold, with Cafe being an excellent way to introduce an actual story, one that makes sense.
  • Tons of track variations, scrapes, and car customization.
  • One of the best visuals in a racer to date. The amount of details found on and in vehicles as well as environments makes this one photorealistic game.

Cons:

  • Car list is less than 400 when you consider the same types.
  • Single file rolling start, why?
  • Cafe mode is a highlight, but you have to play through it in order to progress in the rest of the game.
  • Always online is still an odd decision.
