Housemarque Next Game Is a Brand-New IP, Studio “Concepting It Out”

Following Returnal‘s big win at the recent DICE Awards, the studio behind it has confirmed that Housemarque next game is a brand-new IP, with the developer in the phase of “concepting it out.” The studio also shared its thoughts on making a multiplayer title amongst other things, with Housemarque giving us a clue of what could possibly be next after the success of Returnal.

For context, Returnal won Outstanding Achievements in Original Music composition and audio design at the recent DICE Awards, and in an interview with VentureBeat, Ilari Kuittinen, Managing Director at Housemarque, had this to say when asked on if they have plans on making a live-service title in the future following Sony’s acquisition of Bungie:

Well, the jury is still out there. We’re one of the very last dinosaurs making arcade games. Nex Machina, a few years ago, was very much a shoot-’em-up game in the style of the coin-ops from the ‘80s. That’s sort of a clue. But it’s interesting. We’ve been thinking about that. We had our stint working on multiplayer games, because a few years back it seemed like you needed to have some kind of multiplayer experience. We tried that, and we really didn’t do it as well. But it’s early days with us starting a new game, a new IP, concepting it out. We’ll see what comes with that.

There you have it. Housemarque was intentionally vague on what this new IP could be all about, but given that Returnal was critically acclaimed when it released, we can only hope to expect some great things for the studio’s next game in the future.

Returnal was one of our most notable games back in 2021, and it was also in the running for our Game of the Year! Check out our full list of winners here to see if your favorite game of 2021 made the cut.

Sifu Surpasses Over 1 Million Players, Over 10 Million Hours Played in First Three Weeks Since Release

It looks like developer Sloclap has a bonafide hit on its hands, as action game Sifu has surpassed over one million players in its first three weeks of availability! This announcement was joined by the game’s accolades trailer, which highlights the amazing scores the game has gotten from critics.

In addition to the player count, the game has also amassed over 10 million hours played! Not bad for a single-player game, no? Out of the 1M+ players, more than 45% have completed the challenging second level of the game, and over 150,000 have already beaten Yang.

We aren’t that surprised with the game’s reception, to be honest. I mean, our review marked it a 9/10, and couldn’t get enough of it.

As for what’s next, Sloclap confirmed that post-launch DLC is in the works, and what’s more, a new title update is set to strike its way out this week, too!

COD Warzone Update 1.54 Patch Notes Released & Includes Weapon Fixes

Raven Software has finally unveiled the COD Warzone update 1.54 patch notes today, March 2, and this one is for the long awaited release of some changes and fixes! Check out the full release notes on this latest update below.

COD Warzone Update 1.54 Patch Notes | COD Warzone March 2 Patch Notes:

MODES:

Vanguard Royale Adjustments – COMING MARCH 3RD!

We have been happy with the response to the Vanguard Royale LTM and are releasing further balancing refinements this week based on your feedback on the gameplay experience to date.

When Vanguard Royale re-enters the Playlist rotation for all squad sizes tomorrow, March 3rd, you can expect the following changes:

  • Core Player health will be increased to 150, up from 100
    • Including Armor, Players will now have a total health pool of 300, up from 250

We agree with the feedback that the Time-to-Kill (TTK) has crept beyond the sweet spot and hope that this adjustment will improve Player experience and sentiment. This change comes parallel to additional Weapon balancing that remains a key focus for the team.

  • UAV’s are now available in Buy Stations for $9,000, up from $6,000

We’ve seen both sides of feedback with the previous change to remove UAV’s wholesale from Buy Stations; some players liking the more traditional battle royale pacing, whilst others missing the ability to more readily push a team in the mid-game. We are excited by this compromise where UAV’s will remain accessible but less inclined to be so readily exploitable.

Our goal with both of these changes is to deliver a more balanced, fair and engaging experience. We will continue to monitor the impact of these changes and make additional updates where required.

BUG FIXES:

  • Fixed collision issues with various elements across Caldera allowing Players to exploit/peek/shoot through them.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to get stuck while proning underneath certain environmental elements such as stairs.
  • Fixed an issue with elements at Chemical Factory to improve system performance and reduce hitching.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Wade Bundled Up Operator Skin to appear headless.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Submachine Gun Charlie (VG) VDD 189mm Short Barrel to incorrectly affect Locational Multipliers.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Light Machine Gun Charlie (VG) Queen’s 705mm Royal Barrel to bypass its intended Damage Falloff.
  • Fixed an issue causing optics on the Sniper Rifle Alpha (VG) Baltic Blueprint to appear opaque.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed Nebula V Rounds to penetrate Riot Shields.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed Nebula V Rounds to be applied to certain Melee Weapons.
  • Fixed an issue causing Nebula V Rounds to lack a visual effect when used with various Launchers.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder images and descriptions to appear in various Store Bundles.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder descriptions to appear for the Whitley (VG) Camo Unlock Challenges.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder text to appear on the Party tab of the Social menu.
  • Fixed an issue causing certain restricted Operators to be usable in Vanguard Royale modes.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Bomber Plane ADS UI to remain stuck on the Player screen when landing the plane while holding ADS.

WEAPONS:

  • XM4 (BOCW)
    • Neck Damage Multiplier decreased to 1.33, down from 1.5

For additional Weapon & Attachment changes, please refer to the Bug Fixes section above.

That’s about it for the patch. In case you missed it, check out Activision’s response to us with regards to Call of Duty’s future here.

Battlefield 2042 Core Feedback for Maps Discussed by DICE; Oultines Some of the Changes Incoming

Back in February, Battlefield 2042 developers at DICE and Ripple Effect mentioned that they were going to be more transparent regarding the game’s top issues. It seems that transparency is slowly turning to fruition, as DICE has now discussed the Battlefield 2042 core feedback for maps.

In an in-depth blog post, Battlefield Community Lead Adam Freeman touches on the issues players have had with the game’s maps in All-Out Warfare. We’ve listed some of the stuff discussed, and included some key points, so players can see what the studio is doing now.

Traversal:

We’re currently looking to reduce the overall travel time between Flag and Base Spawn on some maps by moving both the Base Spawn, and closest Flags. We’ve already identified a number of obvious candidates that fall outside of our new expected behaviours, but we want to hear from you on this topic as well. Which maps presently provide a poor opening experience because of the location of the Base Spawn? Which maps are making it harder to get back into the fight in an all cap scenario? Later on in the post, we’ll share a link to a general feedback thread that we’ve opened up to capture some of this feedback, but don’t be shy to have these conversations out amongst other hubs of Battlefield Community. We’re out there monitoring the conversations and are keen to hear what you have to say.

Intensity:

In terms of improvements, we are presently reviewing if it makes sense to keep Breakthrough as 128 players vs 64, or if we feel that a reduction of the total number of vehicles that can spawn ensures that their presence isn’t as overwhelming, and gives infantry players a more important role. In the leadup to the Holidays, we introduced 64 player Breakthrough, and recently made some changes to the ticket values across the mode based on behaviors we were seeing in the final objective phase. Right now, we feel that Breakthrough on 64 players provides the best experience of Breakthrough.

Line of Sight:

Our current plan for improvement is to ensure there are more opportunities to hide yourself from enemy line of sight while traversing from objective to objective, with a goal of ours being to reduce the focus on long-range combat, and the necessity of carrying weapons which perform best in these ranges.

Paths:

We’re presently looking to bring improvements into the paths that we have on our maps, to make clearer and more defined paths while traveling between objectives in order to keep combat focused, and to make it easier to understand how to get from one objective to the next. If you have thoughts or examples that align to those goals, please don’t be shy to show us. These can be as basic as extracting a 2 minute clip of you moving from flag to flag, and calling out to us the experience you had whilst doing that (good or bad), or discussion of specific areas that you feel are presently lacking good pathing, or are the best examples of where this is currently strongest.

Cover:

We are looking to address this by reviewing the need for additional cover in places where we feel that they’re needed. In line with what has been discussed in some of our other focus areas, our intent is to reduce the likelihood of being fired at from a 360 degree angle, and to take away that Hail Mary feeling of running onto no man’s land between objectives.

Examples of these improvement areas across current maps:

Breakthrough – Sector A on Kaleidoscope Large – this is a good example of where we feel the objectives are too far from the Defending Base Spawn. It’s difficult to make it from spawn to those objectives, alive. There’s very little cover across the immediate road and grassy embankments as soon as you’re out of the spawn area. We feel it’s currently too unforgiving for the attacking side.

Conquest – Kaleidoscope – we notice very few people run from the left tower up through the skatepark and to the dome. There are too many open spaces without cover which leave you open for a lengthy amount of time. As an example we’ve added the heatmap below which shows large areas of the map are underutilized as they are considered too dangerous.

While the changes outlined by DICE look to improve the overall flow and feel of matches, the studio does mention that this requires “substantial development time,” and as such, players shouldn’t expect these proposed changes to be made available to players simultaenously across all the maps.

Per DICE, the priority now is to make improvements to Kaleidoscope on both Conquest, and Breakthrough, and the changes are planned to be available when Season 1 rolls in sometime in summer.

The studio is seeking feedback from gamers, which they can leave on the official Battlefield forums, and later this month, the studio will share the feedback of the players, and what’s some of the things suggested the studio can pursue.

You can read the entire Battlefield 2042 core feedback on maps right here.

As for what’s next on the table, DICE has announced that the next title update, patch 3.3, will be deployed next week.

Power Wash Simulator March 2 Update Adds New Content and Changes on PC

Developer FuturLab has released the Power Wash Simulator March 2 update on PC today, and along with a whole host of new changes and content! Check out the full release notes on this latest update for the game below, which is still currently in its Early Access phase.

Power Wash Simulator March 2 Update Patch Notes:

It’s time to once again equip your power washer and discard decades of dirt in our largest level yet. Plus, uncover filthy ancient secrets at a dig site, fly through the eggy exterior of a stunt plane and implement your clean vision onto the fortune teller’s caravan. We can’t wait for people to dive into all of the new content in this update and discover more of our world’s lore!

New Content
New jobs:

Subway Platform, Stunt Plane, Fortune Teller’s Caravan & Ancient Statue.

New cosmetics:

Say hello to our first Prime Vista Pro skin, Carbon:

We’ve also added all of the default suit colors to the starter gloves for some extra fashion options.

New challenge:

Vintage Car – Time & Water

Fixes:
99% Save issue
  • An issue in which players loaded data from a previous save will be unable to finish half-finished tasks has been fixed.
Any level with washing progress will be auto-completed when booting up the game after the update. The partially completed levels will auto-complete when you join the level. Though will appear at the percentage you left it at on the menu initially.

We have tried to give an advanced warning to those who may have been in progress but we apologise to anyone who may be caught unaware by this.

The game has changed a lot under the hood (bonnet) since the first Early Access Launch and whilst this wasn’t ideal we feel it was necessary to get on top of some issues that occurred with conflicting saves between the patches. This will bring everyone’s save data up to date with the current version 0.8. Anyone who was stuck with unwashable objects at 99% in the last patch will now be able to continue as normal. Those who had the Ferris Wheel completed will just be able to go straight into the new patch!

All money from the parts and job completion will be given to all players for any jobs that auto-complete.

Note, the UI in job details may get slightly confused and display something like $149/$150 but the total earned will be correct.

More fixes:
  • An issue in which clients could not open the inventory in a multiplayer game if they had soap selected in Career Mode before has been fixed
  • A rare issue in which the tablet would occasionally get stuck on the screen has been fixed
  • Some localisation corrections
Non Slippy Ladders

New non-slippy ladders are in. A lot of players have complained about being able to stay on the ladders without slipping off the sides. In Update 0.8 you will no longer easily slip off the side and it will keep you inside unless you are purposefully trying to get off the ladders.

power wash simulator march 2 update

we hope everyone will have a much better experience when climbing up walls etc!

Gnomes return:

The gnomes have been a running gag for us and something that has become quite iconic to PowerWash Simulator. We were all a little upset that they last-minute broke the game before 0.7 and had to be taken out.

Don’t worry, they are back and are better than ever! There is now a gnome in

every

level! Not just that, you can also pick them up and move them if they are in the way of your washing. Or, even to put them in a better position for a nice picture.

Keen gnome hunters, it is your time to shine!

power wash simulator march 2 update

Known Issues
  • Messages for the Stunt Plane & Ancient Statue job appear out of order in the messages tab of the menu
  • Unable to mute the game audio via the options menu

Thanks for reading, we hope everyone has an amazing time with the new content and we can’t wait for all of the new lore theories following these levels. We have some exciting things to share that we have been working on in the background that weren’t ready for 0.8 but are pretty massive that we can’t wait to share in our weekly dev logs.

That’s about it for the patch. The game is currently on sale on Steam, and it’s quite the unexpected hit, boasting an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on the platform.

Ukraine Deputy PM Calls on PlayStation, Xbox, & Gaming Industry to Cut Off Russia

As the devastating invasion of Ukraine rages on, the Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Federov has called on Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox and the gaming industry at large to cut off Russia and its market in a published open letter. The letter also specifically addresses esports platforms, as Russia is quite known in the CIS region for being quite active in certain esports titles.

Posted on the official account of Mykhailo Federov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, here’s what the letter had to say:

To all game development companies and esports platforms,

The Russian Federation has carried out a deceptive and outrageous military attack on my country! Just imagine, in 2022, cruise missiles attack residential neighborhoods, kindergartens, and hospitals in the heart of Europe.

The armed forces and citizens are defending Ukraine till the end! The whole world is repelling the aggressor through the imposition of sanctions – the enemy must suffer significant losses. But we need your support – in 2022, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to the tanks, multiple rocket launchers (hrad) and missiles.

I am sure that you will not only hear, but also do everything possible to protect Ukraine, Europe, and, finally, the entire democractic world from bloody authoritarian aggression – and I appeal to temporarily block all Russian and Belorussian accounts, temporarily stop all the participation of Russian and Belorussian teams and gamers in all international esports events and cancel all international events holding on the territory of Russia and Belarus.

We are sure that such actions will motivate the citizens of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression.

Yours Sincerely,

The letter itself tagged both the official Xbox and PlayStation Twitter accounts, which makes sense, given that besides Nintendo, these two are the largest gaming companies in the world. It’s yet unknown how these companies will respond, so stay tuned here at MP1st for more infomation once it drops!

Horizon Forbidden West Update 1.06 Brings Improvements This March 2

Guerrila Games has released the Horizon Forbidden West update 1.06 (PS5 version 1.006) patch just now, and this brings in a host of gameplay improvements and bug fixes. There are fixes to the main quests, side quests, UI, and more! Read the complete changes In the Horizon Forbidden West March 2 patch notes.

Horizon Forbidden West Update 1.06 Patch Notes | Horizon Forbidden West Update 1.006 Patch Notes | Horizon Forbidden West March 2 Patch Notes:

FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS

Main Quests

  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Varl could become stuck swimming, which resulted in a missing prompt to [Examine the Machine Carcass] at the Glinthawk sighting site, thus blocking further progression.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Varl would visibly teleport after the Focus scanning tutorial.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where Aloy could become stuck in a falling animation when she grabbed a collapsing climbing point and used the Pullcaster on a Grapple Point at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Reach for the Stars’ where there was a sudden change in sunlight when Aloy was traversing a certain spot inside the shuttle tower.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Death’s Door’ where reloading from a certain save would cause the Firegleam explosion to replay.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Dying Lands’ where Aloy and her companions would get snowed on while inside the cauldron.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Broken Sky’ where Kotallo could sometimes become distracted and stray from the task at hand, which could block further progression.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Broken Sky’ where Aloy would be placed in an unintended pose when reloading a certain save.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘The Kulrut’ where an objective marker was leading towards a blocked path.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Seeds of the Past’ where Alva could sometimes not reach the console, blocking progression.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Seeds of the Past’ where reloading the save after killing the machines outside of test station Elm would spawn Aloy stuck in the floor.
  • Fixed an issue in main quest ‘Singularity’ where reloading a certain save would cause a certain line of dialogue to play again incorrectly.

Side Quests

  • Fixed an issue in side quest ‘The Blood Choke’ where Atekka would not move into position when needed, thus blocking progression.
  • Fixed an issue in side quest ‘The Promontory’ where reloading from a save after the ‘Investigate the bridge’ objective would place the player in Plainsong.
  • Tempered the vigilance of machines in side quest “The Wound in the Sand”, so that they no longer enter a suspicious state immediately upon reloading from a certain save.
  • Fixed an issue in side quest “A Tribe Apart” where reloading a save created after opening the metal flower at Riverwatch would cause the vines to respawn.

World Activities

  • Fixed an infinite black screen that would occur after stashing the Champion’s Spear and then starting any Tutorial or Challenge in Chainscrape Melee Pit, or a fixed loadout challenge in the Arena.
  • Fixed an issue in Cauldron Mu where a platform at the end of the cauldron could stream in late, trapping the player underneath.
  • Fixed an issue in salvage contract The Stillsands: Pristine Bellowback where the incorrect machine corpse was spawned when reloading from save after defeating the machine.
  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the player was no longer able to attack after selecting to repeat the instructions regarding unit combat power.
  • Fixed an issue in Machine Strike where the compass would appear on screen after the player retried a match they lost.
  • Fixed an issue where a wild loading screen could pop up while in the Arena menu, after returning from a challenge.
  • Fixed an issue where scavenger machines would not appear after killing other types of machines in certain habitats.
  • Fixed an issue with dome views where the icons would not display correctly after reloading a save.
  • Fixed an issue in Salvage Contract: The Lost Supplies where the quest could not be turned in under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue with the track “The World on Her Shoulders” repeating if the player used fast-travel after climbing a Signal Tower. Please note that this is not fixed for players who already encountered this issue, we are investigating a separate fix for this.

UI/UX

  • Removed haptic feedback when standing next to a campfire and when fast-traveling if the Vibration Intensity sliders are set to 0.
  • Fixed an issue where a Vista image would appear in front of a Black Box collectible in the menu.

Graphics

  • Fixed multiple instances of objects in the world visibly popping between different levels of detail.
  • Fixed an issue in Photo Mode where parts of Aloy’s outfit and body would become blurry in certain poses.
  • Improved visual differentiation of the attack and move indicators in Machine Strike.
  • Fixed a cosmetic issue with underwater cubemap.
  • Fixed an issue where a blurry artefact was visible around the Heavy Crossbow when using it in combat.
  • Fixed several instances of the camera jittering and behaving in an unintentional way.
  • Several craftable quest items had the incorrect model in the workbench interface, those have now been replaced with the final assets.
  • Fixed an issue with Parallax Mapped Foam by removing variable height scale in favor of a constant value; when original dynamic input value got too high it started separating the parallax layers. To fix the nasty separation of the layers at glancing angles the height scale is set by a bit of fresnel based logic.
  • Fixed several instances of NPCs in settlements not displaying the correct level of detail when playing the PS4 version of the game.
  • Fixed an issue in the Chainscrape tavern where moving the camera in a certain spot would cause sudden changes in lighting.
  • Improved noise reduction on screen space ambient occlusion.
  • Reduced the intensity of the vignette screen effect when activating Valor Surges, and when Aloy was at low health.

Performance and Stability

  • Multiple crash fixes.
  • Fixed multiple assets that would pop in or stream in visibly during cinematics.
  • Fixed several unintentional loading screens/black screens that would trigger in specific points.

Other

  • Aloy will not mention her stash quite as often as before.
  • Multiple localization fixes and text alignment corrections.
  • Multiple visual and audio improvements to cinematics.
  • Fixed an issue where Aloy would freeze in a specific pose when switching weapons during a charged heavy melee attack.
  • Fixed an issue where remapping the controls for Primary Fire to R1 would prevent the player from throwing rocks.
  • The spear impact when using ‘Strike From Above’ was missing a sound effect that has now been added.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would lose control of Aloy if sprinting and sliding into the water at a specific spot in the ruins north of Landfall.
  • Fixed an issue with the camera during the end credits.
  • Fixed several instances of the mount behaving erratically in specific locations while riding on roads.

KNOWN ISSUES

We are currently looking into several issues reported by the community. Please note that these issues are not yet fixed in this patch, but our teams are investigating them with high priority.

  • The team continues to investigate several graphical issues reported by players regarding shimmering, sharpening and screen saturation when moving the camera.
  • Some players have reported that the Firegleam icons do not get removed from the map after interacting with them.
  • Some players have reported an issue in side quest ‘Breaking Even’ where they are not able to talk to Porguf when Talanah is in Camp Nowhere, blocking progression of this quest.
  • Some players have reported that the music track “The World on Her Shoulders” keeps repeating during their playthrough. We have a partial fix included in this patch to prevent this issue from happening to players who did not encounter this issue during their playthrough yet. We are still looking into a fix for players who are currently experiencing this issue.
  • Some players have reported not being able to reach 100% in the Game Progression menu, our team is investigating.

The studio also acknowledged that the graphical issues are being looked into by the devs, even if the fixes for it aren’t included in today’s patch.

To check out the long list of fixes rolled out last week, head on over here.

If you somehow still haven’t played Forbidden West, you’ll want to change that, as our review gave it a glowing 9/10 score, and said, “Sony protagonists and the wide cast of characters each bring their own unique flavor to the game. Higher quality side quests, combined with a main campaign that feels grander in scope, and is much better paced than the original make for a strong story, and the beautiful environments, combined with highly detailed character models and improved gameplay make this an early candidate for Game of the Year.”
