Halo 5: Guardians – Watch a Full-Length, Near-Perfect Match of Slayer on a New Beta Map

“Greenskull” from Ready Up Live shows us a full match of Halo 5: Guardians Slayer on the map Empire, both a mode and map that will be available in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta, from his early hands-on time with the game at HaloFest.

As far as we know, this is the first gameplay we’ve seen that features a full-length match from the perspective of one player, without cuts, which really helps to get a feel for the new gameplay 343 Industries is trying to achieve with Halo 5. You’ll see some of the new Spartan Abilities in practice, some of the new weapon mechanics, and thankfully, a ton of different medals, since “Greenskull” here nearly lands a perfect game.

You can watch the whole thing above.

343 Industries unveiled the first footage Halo 5: Guardians earlier this week in a multiplayer-focused ViDoc along with a full, commentated match of Halo pros going at it on the map Truth, a remake of the Halo 2 map Midship. You’ll also find more footage, along with details on Halo 5’s new Spartan Abilities and control scheme right here.

Access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta will be granted to all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on December 29 through to January 18 where you’ll get to test out three modes on seven different maps.

What’d you think of the new gameplay? Liking the new direction Halo is headed in?

An Important Update On Our Halo: The Master Chief Collection Review

Hello everyone,

I think it’s important to let you all know that our Halo: The Master Chief Collection review will not be landing on the site this week should the issues with matchmaking continue to exhaust my patience.

Normally, I would make note of these issues in the review itself, but considering that the review is focused on the multiplayer aspect and you come here to read our thoughts on that particular side of gaming, we thought it best to not publish it until I’ve had ample opportunity to actually experience the multiplayer as a consumer would. I think you’d agree that it wouldn’t be fair to base my thoughts and opinions off the one press session of Custom Games I got to participate in.

So, to be upfront, do not buy this game at the moment if you are wanting to experience the iconic multiplayer Halo has mastered so well over the last decade. If you can handle Custom Games and you don’t care about online Matchmaking multiplayer, or you just want to play the campaign and relive the story, go ahead and get the game, considering those features work.

Either way, you can keep up with some of the latest multiplayer updates here to see what 343 Industries is currently working on. An update will be pushed out later this evening with more to come over the weekend.

Now, I’m not saying the game is bad, by any means. It’s actually quite good from what I’ve played. It just features a broken multiplayer, and when the multiplayer does work, it takes 25 minutes to even find a match. It’s simply our hope to provide you accurate information on a product you are potentially buying, because after all, it’s our duty as a publication to be the minesweepers of the Games Industry so that you don’t wander off and get blown to oblivion!

343 is obviously not abandoning the game, so we hope to have our review of the Master Chief’s saga by next week. Remember to keep your eyes on MP1st for more updates on Halo.

New Halo Matchmaking Improvements Will Roll Out Wednesday Morning, Weekend Updates To Follow

343 Industries is preparing to release a number of updates to Halo: The Master Chief Collection following a troubled launch plagued with matchmaking issues and other bugs.

An update to the game earlier this Tuesday yielded minor results, but as Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor put it, “nobody is going to bed” until improvements are made. Fans can expect a new matchmaking update to go live this Wednesday morning while an unrelated update will roll out this weekend that aims to fix an issue with Achievements not unlocking properly.

Executive Producer wrote a lengthy note to fans apologizing for the rocky launch while outlining the studio’s next moves. You can read it below:

Since the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we’ve received several, well deserved, complaints related to slow matchmaking and other issues. From everyone at 343 Industries, we are truly sorry and feel your frustration. You deserve better and we are working day and night to find solutions as quickly as possible, with our first priority focused on matchmaking improvements.

Tomorrow morning (Wednesday morning Pacific Time) we plan to roll out a number of server updates to help improve matchmaking. Again, these are server-side fixes, so you won’t need to take a content update or reboot your console; you should see the effects right away.

In addition, we are targeting another release for this weekend, which will address a number of other community priorities. An unrelated issue with services is also causing achievements to not unlock correctly, and we realize this just makes it all feel a bit worse.

A game as large as Halo: The Master Chief Collection has a massive surface area, and while we made every effort to have the best launch possible for our fans, issues surfaced with launch and we’re committed to improving this as fast as possible and get you all into matches. We’re committed to improving things as fast as possible so you can have the Halo experience you’ve been waiting for.

Your feedback has been helpful for us in isolating issues, so please keep the input coming. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding while we work through these challenges. The development team at 343 Industries worked insanely hard to create Halo: The Master Chief Collection for you, and we won’t stop until it’s worthy of your passion for our franchise.

Destiny To Go Offline ‘For Several Hours’ On November 13

On Thursday, November 13, Bungie will be taking Destiny servers offline across all platforms “for several hours,” the studio announced in a recent update.

“This totally planned service outage will enable us to prepare for the arrival of a series of updates planned for the next few weeks,” writes Bungie. “During this time, you’ll be unable to play Destiny. We’re sorry about the interruption, but it’s for the greater good.”

Users won’t need to download or install anything new, as the maintenance will take place server side. Once back online, your copy of Destiny will be prepared for some of the upcoming updates that were outlined late last week.

Specifically, maintenance is planned to begin around 8AM Pacific / 11AM Eastern and end around 12PM Pacific / 3PM Eastern, if all goes smoothly.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Matchmaking Fixes are a “Top Priority” at 343

Gamers barely awake after a night of Covenant-blasting and Brute-punching in the just-released Halo: The Master Chief Collection can rest a little easier knowing that multiplayer matchmaking fixes are a “top priority” at 343 Industries.

In a number of updates, the studio is telling those experiencing issues finding a public multiplayer match in The Master Chief collection, “We’re aware of issues some have been having with matchmaking and we’re working around the clock, alongside the Xbox Live team, to address.”

Some improvements have been made thus far, but it appears that further action is still required.

“We’ve also deployed an update that has shown some improvement, and we work around the clock to optimize,” said 343. “This is our top priority.

“The update deployed to matchmaking was done on the server side and does not require an extra download to your Xbox One.”

Similarly, over on Halo’s official support page, the studio made this statement:

“We are aware of the issues players have been experiencing with matchmaking and we’re working around the clock, alongside the Xbox Live team, to improve the situation. We have deployed an update that has shown some improvement, and we continue to optimize the experience. The update deployed to matchmaking was done on the server side and does not require an extra download to your Xbox One. This is our top priority and will keep everyone updated regularly as we deploy continued improvements.”

We’ll be sure to update you with any news on The Master Chief Collection’s matchmaking improvements.

NOTE: The matchmaking issues may cause a slight delay in our official Halo: The Master Chief Collection review, as we don’t want to entirely base our multiplayer thoughts in private matches. Stay tuned for updates!

UPDATE: Further notices have been issued on studio’s support page as a new list of items being investigated has surfaced. 343 is currently investigating the following issues:

  • Players are experiencing unusually long Matchmaking times
  • Parties are being split up when entering a matchmaking game
  • Games can start with unbalanced teams
  • Big Team Battle is currently offering 6v6 matches instead of 8v8

The status of each will be updated accordingly.

Report – Battlefield 4 Final Stand DLC To Introduce The “Spyder Bow” and “Phantom” Weapon

A new update to the Battlelog landed today in preparation for Battlefield 4’s upcoming Final Stand DLC, whose exact launch date is still a mystery.

Along with changing up the background to reflect the new DLC’s winter-y theme, new entries were also added to Battlefield 4’s list of assignments and dog tags, some of which suggest a few interesting things, like the inclusion of a bow and arrow weapon called the “Spyder” and another mysterious weapon called the “Phantom”.

As JackFrags points out in the video you can watch above, the new “Phantom Operative” assignment clearly displays a bow and arrow weapon behind the a golden skull in its design. In addition, a weapon called the “Spyder” has been spotted in the game’s code, which also lists a number of different attachments like a Stabilizer, Explosive Arrows, Target Detector, etc.

Battlefield 3’s Aftermath DLC introduced the Crossbow to the series earlier, but unlike that expansion, the list of attachments suggests Battlefield 4’s bow could be a primary weapon instead of a gadget.

While this next segment should be taken with a grain of salt, user TheRadGamerDan appears to have discovered the requirements for the Phantom Operative assignment, which asks players to score 200 kills with the “Phantom”, and score 50 head shots with the “Phantom”. The reward appears to be the Spyder Bow mentioned above.

So far, the only confirmed new weapons in Final Stand are the Rorsch MK-1 Rail Gun and XD-1 Accipiter Drone Battle Pickups, along with the HT-95 Levkov Hover Tank and Snowmobile for vehicles.

Check out the video above and tell us what you think in the comments! What could the “Phantom” really be, if it even exists?

Halo 5: Guardians Beta Is 720p, 60fps – “Not The Final Resolution,” Says Studio Head

Halo 5: Guardians’ multiplayer beta may run at a 720p resolution when it launches on Xbox One this December, but you can expect the final game “will look amazing when it comes out,” said 343 Industries studio head Josh Holmes.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Holmes explained that the upcoming multiplayer beta, which was shown off for the first time only a few hours ago, is all about gathering feedback on gameplay and balance, rather than technical or visual improvements.

“For the beta, at this point we’re totally focused on gameplay,” he said.

“We’re midway through development. We’re balancing and tuning the gameplay systems. All of the polish and optimisation graphically is stuff that typically comes towards the end of the production cycle.”

“So, for the beta, we’re going to be coming out at 720p and 60fps. That’s not the final resolution for the game. You can imagine as we go through the remainder of the project we’ll be focused on polishing the visual look of the game. You can expect it will look amazing when it comes out.”

Without a doubt, what 343 has managed to show so far this early in development is nothing short of impressive. You can see for yourself in this handful of un-commentated gameplay clips.

Anyone with Halo: The Master Chief Collection will gain access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta taking place December 29 to January 18. It will offer three different 4v4 game modes across seven multiplayer maps.

First Halo 5: Guardians Footage Drops Tonight, But Here Are Some Official Screens Ahead of Time

Tonight, Halo fans will get their first look at what 343 Industries has been cooking up for Halo 5: Guardians, or at least for its early multiplayer beta that is on course to launch this December, roughly one year before the game’s official release.

The screens show off new multiplayer character models as well as a view of a new, close-quarters multiplayer arena stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity.

The images join a batch of off-screen gameplay clips that also leaked just yesterday, along with some confirmed details from the studio head on Halo 5: Guardians, which you can see and read right here.

Leaked Halo 5 Footage Suggests Aim Down Sights and Sprint Are In, Studio Head Confirms Descope, No Flinch, and More

New details on Halo 5: Guardians are in.

Originally spotted by NeoGAF user VinFTW, four different gameplay clips of what appears to be the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta have surfaced and are causing quite a stir in the Halo community.

The clips show off gameplay on two different maps, one of which appears to be the classic Halo 2 map, Midship. Six weapons — the Battle Rifle, the Assault Rifle, the Pistol, the Sniper Rifle, the Energy Sword, and a Grenade Launcher — are also shown, along with the ability to sprint, which was a notably controversial mechanic that was introduced as a standard player ability in Halo 4.

What has gamers talking, however, is the new scoping animation on the Battle Rifle, which looks awfully similar to the way ‘aiming down sights’ works in other popular shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield. According to the footage, the rifle now appears to sport an optic attachment that players can quickly zoom through.

What’s not clear, however, is if all weapons will be able to ‘ADS’ in a similar fashion, or if the Battle Rifle’s newly revamped scoping animation is exclusive to only that weapon and others like it.

You can have a look at the leaked clips for yourself by following the links below:

Those following Josh Holmes, Studio Head on Halo 5: Guardians, on Twitter were also treated to some confirmed information earlier today, notably that there is “No penalty to hip fire in H5, no movement penalty when scoping/zooming, [and] no flinch,” he said. Furthermore, “Descope is back!”

That was all Holmes was willing to confirm before Halo 5: Guardian’s official unveiling tomorrow during the HaloFest live stream, taking place tomorrow at 8PM PST / 11PM EST on Xbox’s official Twitch channel.

According to previous details, the beta will take place between December 29 and January 18 and will focus on 4v4 gameplay on 7 small, arena-based maps with 11 sandbox weapons and 7 armor sets.

What do you think of the leaked and confirmed details from today? Do mechanics like aim down sight and sprint belong in the new Halo game?

Keep yours sights on MP1st for more details on Halo 5: Guardians as we follow the latest news.

“For the first time, you can discover new shows and see what people are saying about them in real-time with new Live TV and Twitter integration.”

  • Live TV Trending – Xbox One owners in the U.S., Canada and the UK, will see a new “Trending” tab in OneGuide that displays the top 20 most watched TV shows, with the list filtered down to the shows that are currently available to you based on your OneGuide settings. The Live TV on Xbox trending list is updated by the minute, so you can easily discover shows that are popular with other viewers.

You can tune to a specific show from either trending list by pressing the A button.
  • Tweets in MiniGuide – Also, initially available in the U.S., you will see the actual tweets for the Live TV shows in real time and quickly find the Twitter #hashtag to join the conversation.
  • Recents and Favorites in MiniGuide – MiniGuide has been updated to include your favorite TV channels in a combined Recents and Favorites area and MiniGuide can now be activated via voice by saying “Xbox Select – MiniGuide” while watching TV.
