Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections Update 1.21 Improves Online Play

CyberConnect2 has pushed out Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections update 1.21 (PS5 version 1.002.001), which brings improvements and stability to online play. Don’t expect any new content from this, as we just got the DLC character drop last week.

Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections Update 1.21 Patch Notes:

PS5 Update Version 1.002.001

Nothing much is in this patch except for the folllowing according to the devs:

  • – Matching improvements

Yep, that’s the only changelog we got for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch versions.

Don’t forget to check out last week’s title update as that one brought in a host of gameplay and combat changes alongside the new DLC.

Curious what some of the changes were from last week’s patch? We’ve included the combat balance adjustments, which is just the tip of the iceberg.

Battle Balance Adjustments

Overall battle adjustments:

  • We have delayed the timing for granting priority to direct attack-type ninjutsu in general.
Priority is an indicator that determines which attack will win when two attacks collide.
  • High priority attack judgment will now occur when a Leader Change attack hits, or when a Leader Change is performed during an air combo.
  •  Increased the recovery speed of the support gauge after a leader change.
  • Adjusted the recovery speed of the support gauge after activating a support ninjutsu.
  • Increased the recovery speed of the support gauge when in a two-man cell.
  • Reduced the time it takes for the transformation gauge to start recovering.
  • Leader switching is now disabled while preparing for a counter.
  • Slowed down the natural recovery rate of the chakra gauge while jumping or performing a ninja move.
  • Increased the natural recovery speed of the chakra gauge during attacks.
  • Increased the stun time when a Guard Break Attack hits.
  • Reduced the poison effect of the Ninja tool “Poison Tag.”

For the bug fixes, new event details and character balance pass, head on over here.

Battle and Character Adjustments

This update patch makes adjustments to the universal action, dash , as well as several adjustments to certain characters’ skills.

Dash

Although useful as a gap closer, it was difficult to react to them and the payoff for using them differed significantly between characters. Dashwill now cause more knockback when blocked, making it more difficult to continue applying pressure after. Adjustments have also been made to characters whose dashwere significantly different from other characters in terms of movement speed and reach.

Brave Counter

Executing a Brave Counter while the opponent’s HP was low would create situations making it easy to win via chip damage using skills. This felt unfair in some instances, so Brave Counters now no longer deal damage once health is below a certain point.

Character Adjustments

Characters that players felt had ultimate skills that were difficult to use or limited in scope have been strengthened, and skills that were difficult to respond to have been adjusted. We hope that this empowers more characters to have more tools in various situations, but we also ask players to understand these are not comprehensive adjustments. Further adjustments are planned for future updates.

For further details on what has changed can be found on the official Granblue Fantasy Rising website.

That’s all for today’s update! Now, get out there and enjoy the new character! Oh, and in case you missed it, 2B from the Nier franchise is also now available in Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising!

Ark Survival Ascended Update 1.038.008 Brings Scorched Earth This April 1

It’s finally here! Studio Wildcard has pushed out Ark Survival Ascended update 1.038.008 (PC version 38.08), which brings the Scorched Earth content to PCs and consoles! Read on for the patch notes and what this new content means for players.

Ark Survival Ascended Update Patch Notes for April 1:

PC Update Version 38.08

Update: While Studio Wildcard hasn’t released a changelog, the studio did push out info about Scorched Earth, which we’ve added below.

EXPLORE A NEW WORLD

Scorched Earth Ascended introduces ARK players to a new desert realm with six distinct biomes, from dunes to oases, each brimming with unique ecosystems and aesthetics. This land rich in ruins, geysers, and ancient caves, offers a fresh challenge for exploration. Water, once abundant on The Island, becomes a critical and scarce resource on this ARK, challenging players to adapt their survival strategies to thrive in an arid environment.

TAME NEW CREATURES

Scorched Earth Ascended is teeming with perilous creatures ready for the daring survivor to tame. Unleash havoc on your foes from the back of an elemental Wyvern or master the art of riding a Fasolasuchus, a proto-croc that glides through sand as if it were water. But tread carefully—lest you rouse the fearsome Death Worm!

CRAFT OVER 50 NEW ITEMS

In the harsh landscape of Scorched Earth Ascended, survivors utilize scavenged resources to craft unique gear and structures for heat resistance, alongside innovative tools for survival. Whips, boomerangs, flamethrowers, chainsaws, and more become essential for defense, while tents, wells, wind turbines, and oil refineries enhance base sustainability. These tools not only bolster survival and defense but also enable grand strategies for tribal dominance.

CONQUER NEW CHALLENGES

Brace for electrical storms, sandstorms, and heat stroke, and tap into the Obelisks’ power to challenge the ARK’s fiercest boss yet—the fearsome Manticore. Does it guard a weapon, a relic, or the secrets of the ARK? Only the bravest survivors daring to face it will uncover the truth.

TRAVEL BETWEEN ARKS

To keep things fair and fiery during those first few weeks, Scorched Earth Ascended will be a bit of a wild frontier. You’ll only be able to bring your characters over for the first 60 days, you won’t be able to bring any dinos or items onto the map. After the first 60 days, the gates swing wide open!

At the moment, Studio Wildcard has yet to release any patch notes, though we do know this update adds some new content. Studio Wildcard has, in the meantime, published a small guide, including a FAQ, for this update.

Armored Core 6 Co-Op Mod Released for PC; Lets You Play Through the Game With Friends

Armored Core fans wishing that Armored Core 6 had co-op may be excited to know that, at least for the PC version, an unofficial co-op mod has just been released, allowing you to play through the game with up to five players.

Dubbed “Armored Core Coop Mod,” this new mod allows PC players to play Armored Core 6 with up to five players (counting you) from nearly start to finish. All progression is shared, so you can start a new game with a group of friends, stop for the night, and continue playing the next day from any other host.

By far warning, this mod is unofficial (like all mods), and as per the creator, LukeYui, you’re likely going to experience bugs since it’s in early alpha.

Additionally, there are online invasions, though they can be disabled if you just want to play with friends without any interruptions. Details on each mode, as well as a FAQ about the mod can be found below.

Armored Core 6 Co-op

This mod works to add online co-op in missions. Since only PvP areas exist in the base game enemy and world synchronisation between clients has been re-implemented from the ground up to attempt to make it feel like a traditional souls multiplayer game.

Play with up to 5 friends.

All mission work other than the Ice Worm mission which has been disabled in co-op whilst it is being fixed.

Armored Core 6 Co-op PvP

During missions, either with your party or alone, you are vulnerable to being invaded by rogue ACs controlled by other players. These players will attempt to disrupt your gameplay and add random PvP encounters throughout the game. Their objective is to kill you and your party members. Your objective is to kill them. Players are rewarded for completing their objective.

The amount of rogue ACs that can disturb your mission is equal to the number of co-operative players you have with the limitation of 6 players in a game. If you are in a party by yourself, you will still be able to be invaded by one rogue AC. You can disable PvP in the “ac6_coop_settings” file by changing “allow_evil_guest = 1″ to “allow_evil_guest = 0”. This option only matters for the host of the session.

If you are playing with other game modifications online PvP is disabled.

  • Is progress shared? – Yes.
  • Are there invasions? – Yes, see above.
  • How does failing a mission work? – If you die during a mission and your party members are alive, then you will enter a spectate mode until your party either reaches a checkpoint, completes the mission, or wipes out. If they reach a checkpoint then you will respawn. If everyone dies then the mission will restart from the beginning
  • Does this worked for cracked/pirated games? – No, I’m also not going to be supporting these versions so please don’t make bug reports about it.
  • Can I modify or redistribute this mod? – No, sorry. Please do not modify, repackage, or redistribute this mod anywhere without my permission.
  • Can I use my save game from the base game? – Yes.
  • Will updating the mod affect my current playthrough with it? – No.
  • Can you get Steam achievements while using this mod? – Yes.

If you want to try the mod, you can head to NexusMod to download it. Just follow the instructions on how to install it there.

This mod is only for PCs, so unless FromSoftware decides to officially release a co-op update, don’t expect co-op on any other platform. That’s not to say FromSoftware can’t add it in a future update, but there’s been no indication that it will be happening anytime soon.

Diablo 4 Update 1.42 Released for Version 1.3.5a This April 1

Blizzard Entertainment has released Diablo 4 update 1.41 (PS5 update version 1.042), which is an unannounced patch for the game and is tagged as version 1.3.5a. Given we just got the patch that introduced ray tracing and toggle for certain graphical features, don’t expect much from this outside of fixes.

Diablo 4 Update 1.42 Patch Notes for April 1:

PS5 Update Version 1.042 | Game Update Version 1.3.5a

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue where Gauntlet rewards earned by a Softcore character could be claimed by Hardcore characters.
  • Fixed an issue where the Minion Resistance stats weren’t properly localized for all languages.
  • Various performance and stability improvements

That’s about it from the official patch notes from Blizzard. We’ve also included the bug fixes from the patch last week.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue where the Portal entrance to the Gauntlet didn’t apply Portal cosmetics.
  • Fixed an issue where the ability to interact with certain things would not function if Corpse Tendrils was equipped to the same key binding as ‘Interact’.
  • Fixed an issue where some elites could not properly spawn in the second half of the Path of the Blind dungeon.
  • Fixed an issue where some headstone cosmetics would not appear in the Wardrobe.
  • Various performance, stability, and visual improvements.

Once a new one is released, we’ll be sure to let our readers know. Given the Season 4 patch is being tested in the PTR (Private Test Realm), expect it to be released soon-ish.

The Witcher 4 Won’t Be “Witcher 3 in New Clothing,” CDPR Adding New Gameplay Elements and Mechanics

While we already know CD Projekt RED is working the next Witcher game (which we’ll refer to as The Witcher 4 in the article), don’t expect it to be too similar to the highly-praised The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as the developers have confirmed that players shouldn’t expect the new in-development game to be “Witcher 3 in new clothing.”

This was mentioned by CD Projekt RED Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski in the studio’s latest financial earnings report Q&A. When asked about the development of The Witcher 4 and whether people can expect the usual pre-production to launch phase of 2-3 years, Michal refrained from answering it, and cited how they are adding new gameplay elements and new game mechanics in the upcoming Witcher game, as part of the development process.

“I guess what I’m saying is that you should not be expecting “The Witcher 3 in new clothing” of sorts; of course we’re building on the shoulders of what came before, and on what we’ve learned, but we will be adding new gameplay elements and new mechanics that you have not seen in our previous games. I’d say – doing such things is always a risk; it’s not just repeating what was done before.”Michal Nowakowski, CDPR Joint CEO

This is definitely good news in my book, as CDPR isn’t just expecting the Witcher name to carry the game, and instead is working on making sure there’s something new for franchise fans to experience.

While the new Witcher game still has no title or release window, CD Projekt RED is doubling up on its development, as the studio has allocated over 64% of the development team on it.

[Opinion] Helldivers 2’s Success Shows Why Sony Should Prioritize Smaller Games Over AAA Titles

PlayStation has built up a phenomenal reputation over its 30 years in gaming. It has helped usher in many flagship IP’s we know and love alongside it’s incredible innovations within the industry. Most recently, the PlayStation brand has been synonymous with high budget, first-party titles like Santa Monica’s God of War franchise and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us (and Uncharted series).

Most of these games are long-term endeavors that are by no means cheap to make. While this has been a huge part of what has made them so successful, it also poses a level of stagnation and predictability to their overall strategy. Helldivers 2 however, has come along and proven that a deviation from Sony’s typical strategy may be the key to maintaining and boosting their overall success.

Helldivers 2 has seen a phenomenal response for such a short time on the market. The intense multiplayer shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios was made with a lower budget than a typical PlayStation title, but that hasn’t slowed it down by any means. When it was first announced by Sony that they were looking into putting a larger focus into multiplayer titles it was met with skepticism. But if this is any indication of what is to come, then that skepticism quickly falls by the wayside.

Helldivers 2 rightfully sets a new bar of high expectations for smaller titles. It breaks the mold of the expected $70 release featuring a cinematic third-person action-adventure game. Helldivers 2 also proves that these smaller titles can work when they are handled with care. It has many traits and qualities that should help Sony create similar success if they are to follow in its footsteps with some of their other franchises.

First off, this title is $40 brand new. It’s a fantastic entry point that makes convincing your friends to join in on the chaos much easier. This combined with its simultaneous PC release meant that they were able to keep the conversation about PlayStation in the console space but not limit themselves in terms of player base. Another interesting thing Helldivers 2 has done compared to other online games is that they weren’t advertising themselves as the next big thing. Too many multiplayer games are announced with 10-year plans and grandiose promises for players that they are never able to keep. Helldivers 2 has certainly responded to its success with the promise of ongoing content, but not in a way that expects you to dedicate all your time to grinding out their game.

The most important takeaway from Helldivers 2 though is the amazing player response to it, regardless of its budget. It doesn’t matter to fans that it isn’t a single-player experience or a part of a recognizable IP, it is good on its own merits and that’s simply enough. This is exactly why Sony should be taking notes on Helldivers 2, because they can apply many of the lessons learned here to many of their other titles. While their current strategy is undoubtably working, shifting to a focus on smaller titles could be huge for them in multiple different ways.

Helldivers 2 sales

A common complaint we see is the long wait in between mainline games of PlayStation’s most popular franchises. Smaller titles can help to alleviate those issues by giving fans something to look forward to in between the larger more fleshed out titles. We have already seen Insomniac do just this with the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A title released in-between mainline Spider-Man games that provided additional story to the main games, was developed and released much quicker than the original, and helped make the wait for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that much easier to bare.

As it stands today, the current wait time between mainline PlayStation games is about five years. Mid-budget releases work in PlayStation’s favor for a number of reasons. They can be made using a lot of the same assets from the mainline titles reducing development time. They allow the developers to branch out and experiment within the worlds they have created to help them iterate for the sequels that have yet to release. It could even help them create new IP’s with a reduced financial risk if it doesn’t pan out. Testing the waters first with a mid-budget title before fully investing to gauge whether or not it is something fans would even respond too.

Days Gone by Bend Studio is a great example of this. While the game was good in many respects, it did not see the success that Sony wanted. Perhaps focusing down the size and scope of the project would have allowed them to release it with a lower price point to attract more potential buyers and avoid the all-or-nothing mentality that came with its lack of success. On the opposite end, we have Helldivers. The first entry was perfect for laying the groundwork so the team at Arrowhead Game Studios could iterate for the sequel. Helldivers 2, despite it’s smaller budget, has been immensely popular among gamers and shows that these types of games still have an important role to play in PlayStations portfolio.

Days Gone PC Graphics Options

While PlayStation has made a name for itself through high-quality first-party titles, there is no reason they should restrict themselves to that definition. Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Dreams are both fantastic examples of some lower budget games that are phenomenal in their own respects and achieved what they set out to accomplish. Even the recently released Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarök is so good it could have been released as its own standalone title. Sony certainly has the power and the know-how to create these bite-sized titles and make them enjoyable, it is just a matter of giving their studios the greenlight to do so. Also, this could help pave the way for revivals as well, since the budget and the investment will be smaller than a full-fledged AAA game.

While it is great to see old IP’s get remade from the ground up like Capcom has done with the Resident Evil franchise, it isn’t always realistic. Remakes of that magnitude are incredibly costly, require a ton of work, and can be a gamble of whether the IP still has the power to draw in old and new fans alike. I am sure there are many Twisted Metal, Warhawk, or even Ape Escape fans that would kill to see these games again on PlayStation for example. Arguably, the best way to realize this would be for PlayStation to revisit these IP’s with a mid-budget mentality. You can maintain the high-quality feel of a PlayStation exclusive by shortening the overall experience and focusing it down to its best elements.

Giving developers the chance to work on reviving some of these classics without the pressure of a full blown remake can alleviate a lot the mental and financial stress these studios face. While you may desperately want a complete re-imagining of your favorite classic IP the way God of War received, ultimately it is better to see a franchise return in some form than not at all. PlayStation has too many long forgotten franchises and reminding fans they still care about them could prove to be very useful for their brand overall.

PlayStation franchise Comeback

Some of the biggest games of the past five years have been titles with passionate developers and little budgets; Among Us, Vampire Survivors, Balatro are all testaments to the big things developers can do, even when working with very little. Similarly, some of PlayStation’s most well received projects have been in the same vein. Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and now, Helldivers 2 have all been huge wins for fans in the community. Let’s also not forget the rumored Venom Project from Insomniac either.

The wait for PlayStation’s next big installment in a franchise can be unbearable; sprinkling in some smaller experiences that helps to diversify PlayStation as a brand is good for everyone. Additionally, this approach empowers Sony to support developers in experimenting with new IPs and genres with moderate budgets, alleviating the pressure to achieve massive sales figures just to break even. In a market currently saturated with big-budget spectacles, smaller titles like Helldivers 2 has the ability to stand out and capture the hearts of gamers seeking a fresh and compelling experience. Ultimately, it’s the creativity and passion poured into a game that truly defines its success, rather than just the size of its budget.

“Predecessor” Dev Omeda Studios CEO States It was a “Pretty Big Shock” Epic Killed Paragon

In case you didn’t know, there’s a new MOBA in town, and it’s Omeda Studios’ Predecessor, which is a spiritual successor to Epic Games’ Paragon that was sunsetted back in 2018 (yes, that’s a word, apparently). While Paragon did have its own dedicated player base, it failed to catch enough of it for Epic to warrant supporting the title. This led to Epic releasing all of the assets for Paragon so other studios could use them, which is what Omeda did.

If you’re wondering why Omeda didn’t just create their own MOBA game from scratch, and instead crafted one based on Paragon, you’re not alone. This is what we asked studio CEO, Robbie Singh, when we had a chat to talk to the company.

MP1st: Were you a player of the original Paragon? Why did you decide to take on the task of creating a MOBA game based on Paragon instead of creating one entirely from scratch?

Robbie Singh (CEO at Omeda Studios): Oh yes. Quick background on me is before starting this I was a content creator on YouTube and Twitch, and I was actually the biggest content creator for Paragon. I was already making a lot of content on the game, I had built a pretty large community around the game, and when Epic Games decided to shut down Paragon to focus on Fortnite, I thought “Hey, I am the biggest content creator on this space, I think I have some pretty cool ideas on what a next-generation MOBA could look like,” and so that was kind of my idea behind starting this project.

In the same interview, Singh mentioned that it was a “pretty big shock” when Epic closed down Paragon for good.

MP1st: Did it come as a shock to you when Epic Games decided to shut down Paragon? Did you find it to be somewhat of a unique game at the time?

Robbie Singh: Yes, definitely. It was a pretty big shock, I thought that Paragon brought something very unique to the MOBA genre. A lot of companies were making League-esque, top-down perspective games and Paragon was a very unique take. That was what really drew me towards it, it didn’t really follow the rules and the underlying systems on MOBAs, it felt very much like an action game.

Epic seems to have done the right thing by releasing Paragon’s assets, as the game is essentially getting a second chance at success.

Predecessor is out now in open beta, and is a free-to-play game available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. You can read our hands-on impressions of it here. Our full interview with Omeda will be hitting the site soon.

Silent Hill 2 ESRB Rating Mentions Pole Dancing, and Your Usual Blood, Violence and Gore

While there’s still no release date or window for Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, we might be getting an announcement soon, as the upcoming horror game’s ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) has just gone live.

As one might expect, the game has gotten an “M” for Mature rating from the ESRB, and while we’re fully expecting the franchise’s blood and gore to be mentioned, the rating also mentions “pole dancing” and “sexual material.”

Silent Hill 2 ESRB Rating and Description:

This is a horror adventure game in which players assume the role of a man returning to a mysterious town while being tormented by his past. From a third-person perspective, players explore the town of Silent Hill, interact with characters, and battle humans and creatures (e.g., Pyramid Head, mannequins, monsters). Players use pistols, shotguns, rifles, and knives to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Some environments depict large bloodstains and/or intestines/organs on walls, floors, and surrounding bodies. Cutscenes and illustrations depict further instances of violence and/or blood and gore: characters impaled; a character suffocated to death with a pillow; enemies with body parts sewn together. The game contains some suggestive/sexual material: characters pole-dancing in strip-club settings; posters of women in revealing outfits (e.g., bra and thong, deep cleavage); dialogue alluding to sexuality and/or sexual abuse/misconduct (e.g., “Remember that time in the hotel? You said you took everything. But you forgot that videotape we made”; “Don’t touch me…You’re only after one thing…Or you could just force me, like he always did.”). The word “sh*t” appears in the game.

For those unaware, there was a myth years and years ago that there was a hidden scene in Silent Hill 2 where Maria did a little pole dancing. As far as I’m aware, nothing has come out to prove this claim. Well, it seems Bloober knew about this and finally did something about it?!

Silent Hill 2 still has no release date, but is set to be released on the PC and PS5 this year if rumors are to be believed.
