Remnant 2’s Secrets Are So Well Hidden, Not Even Internal Devs Have Found Them

Remnant 2, the upcoming action RPG game from Gunfire Games that’s set for a full launch this July 25, contains many hidden easter eggs and secrets. Some of Remnant 2’s secrets are so well hidden, in fact, that no one has even found them, including players with over 400 hours of playtime, reviewers with early copies, and even the devs themselves.

Ben Cureton, Principal Designer for Remnant 2, teased the hidden secrets in Remnant 2 via his Twitter account, claiming that there are “secrets within secrets within secrets.”

Given the rich storytelling of Remnant 2’s world, which features places such as an abandoned alien construct, it’s not surprising for hidden details to be scattered throughout the game’s world. But with Cureton teasing secrets hidden within even more secrets, it’s likely that some details will remain hidden for months or even years to come, much like this easter egg from Mortal Kombat 11, which had eluded players for almost four years.

Thinking about giving Remnant 2 a go? Read our review of the game here.

New Baldur’s Gate 3 Trailer Crawls Out Ahead of August 3 Release

A new trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3, the D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)-inspired RPG game by Larian Studios, has just been released. The Baldur’s Gate 3 trailer serves as a compilation video of what we’ve seen so far from previous trailers for the game.

You can watch it here:

Here’s the official description of Baldur’s Gate 3 via the game’s Steam Store page:

Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a mind flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.

From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.

GATHER YOUR PARTY

Choose from 12 classes and 11 races from the D&D Player’s Handbook and create your own identity, or play as an Origin hero with a hand-crafted background. Or tangle with your inner corruption as the Dark Urge, a fully customisable Origin hero with its own unique mechanics and story. Whoever you choose to be, adventure, loot, battle and romance your way across the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Gather your party. Take the adventure online as a party of up to four.

AN EXPANSIVE ORIGINAL STORY

Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.

NEXT GENERATION RPG

Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a thriving world filled with characters, dangers, and deceit. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before. From shadow-cursed forests, to the magical caverns of the Underdark, to the sprawling city of Baldur’s Gate itself, your actions define the adventure, but your choices define your legacy. You will be remembered.

EXPERIENCE UNPRECEDENTED BREADTH & DEPTH

The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed, and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you – verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of Baldur’s Gate. Every choice you make drives your story forward, each decision leaving your mark on the world. Define your legacy, nurture relationships and create enemies, and solve problems your way. No two playthroughs will ever be the same.

  • Online multiplayer for up to four playersallows you to combine your forces in combat and simultaneously attack enemies, or split your party to each follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it. Relationships are complicated. Especially when you’ve got a parasite in your brain.

  • Origin Characters7 unique Origin heroes offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the overarching narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or one of many other outcomes. Play as an Origin and enjoy their stories, or recruit them to fight alongside you.

  • Evolve turn-based combatbased on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage and disadvantage, and roll modifiers join an advanced AI, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight. Three difficulty settings allow you to customise the challenge of combat. Enable weighted dice to help sway the battle, or play on Tactician mode for a hardcore experience.

  • Unprecedented breadth & depthfeaturing 31 subraces on top of the 11 races (Human, Githyanki, Half-Orc, Dwarf, Elf, Drow, Tiefling, Halfling, Half Elf, Gnome, Dragonborn), with 46 subclasses branching out of the 12 classes. Over 600 spells and actions offer near-limitless freedom of interactivity in a hand-crafted world where exploration is rewarded, and player agency defines the journey. Our unique Character Creator features unprecedented depth of character, with reactivity that ensures whomever you are, you will leave a unique legacy behind you, all the way up to Level 12. Over 174 hours of cinematics ensure that no matter the choices you make, the cinematic experience follows your journey – every playthrough, a new cinematic journey.

  • Romances with complexity & depthWith the looming threat of war heading to Baldur’s Gate, and a mind flayer invasion on the horizon, friendships – though not necessary – are bound to be forged on your journey. What becomes of them is up to you, as you enter real, vibrant relationships with those you meet along the way. Each companion has their own moral compass and will react to the choices you make throughout your journey. At what cost will you stick to your ideals? Will you allow love to shape your actions? The relationships made on the road to Baldur’s Gate act as moments of respite at camp as much as they add weight to the many decisions you make on your adventure.

  • Customize your experience for streamingso that when you hit ‘go live’, your stream isn’t interrupted by a bear, swear, or lack of underwear. Baldur’s Gate 3 has 3 different levels of streamer-friendly customisation. You can disable nudity and explicit content separately (or together), and you can enable Twitch integration to interact directly with your audience, just as we do at our Panel From Hell showcases! You’ll be able to stream Baldur’s Gate 3 without any problems, regardless of how you play, thanks to these options.

Baldur’s Gate 3 launches this August 3 on PC and on September 6 on PS5.

Rogue Company Update 2.28 for July 21 Drops for Hotfixes

First Watch Games has released Rogue Company update 2.28 (PS5 version 1.000.060) which brings in a hotfix related to the Vivi patch released a few days ago. Read on for the official Rogue Company patch notes for July 21.

Rogue Company Update 2.28 Patch Notes | Rogue Company Update 1.000.060 Patch Notes | Rogue Company July 21 Patch Notes:

ROGUES

[VIVI]

We feel more Rogues could use EMP grenades, and given ViVi’s status as a support, we feel this will tune down her dueling capabilities a bit in exchange for an additional support function.

  • Replaced Impact Grenade with EMP Grenade

[LANCER]

While it was a bug that this interaction was not working, depending on the effectiveness of her passive with these weapons, we may look to remove this synergy.

  • Passive now works with Dual Boyar SMGs

[ANVIL]

Anvil is a bit too much of a pub-stomper with his damage sponge capabilities, having Legendary Bulletproof and Legendary Armor. This is an attempt at tweaking his identity from “Bullet Sponge” to “Anti-Tank Tank Club” within the Defender category.

  • Changed Legendary Bulletproof to Legendary Shredder Rounds

  • Changed Rare Shredder Rounds to Rare Gadgeteer

WEAPONS

[D40-C]

ON TO THE NEXT META! If 25% lower DPS isn’t enough, we make like this meme and continue nerfing:

  • Fire Rate 750 rpm → 600 rpm

[DUAL BOYAR SMGS]

We are super excited and pleased with the hype around these weapons so far! That said, we have some fine tuning we are doing to help these weapons out a bit.

  • Increased accuracy for Aim over Shoulder

  • Reload time from 3.4 seconds → 2.4 seconds on Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Boyars

  • Reload time 2.9 seconds → 2.2 seconds on Legendary Boyars

  • Increased reserve ammo by 1 additional magazine

[SHOTGUNS]

Shotguns are coming up for their identity passes! In the short-term, we see them shred at point blank range and suffer at every other range. We will not have shotgun sniping, but the close-mid range could use some love given how dominant SMGs currently are versus this weapon category at that range.

  • Decreased close-mid range damage falloff to all shotguns (buffing damage 10-15% at this range):

    • SKL-6

    • Striker 8×10

    • S12 Tactical

    • Arbitrator

BUGFIXES

  • Fixed an issue where ViVi’s firing would be interrupted while she transitioned from sliding to standing
  • Fixed an issue where some weapon wrap thumbnails were showing as temporary art

  • ViVi’s Mastery Spray now shows the correct rarity

  • Fixed an issue where ViVi’s Gilded Diamond skin audio would play as Trench (a fix will be coming later for her Mastery audio)

Once a new patch is out, we’ll let our readers know.

Destiny’s Trials of Osiris weekly PvP mode is back this Friday with a new map and rewards. If you’re wondering what the new map or Adept reward is, look no further: MP1st’s new Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards and map this week July 21, 2023 post lists down all that information in detail below.

New Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris Rewards This Week July 21, 2023:

Trials of Osiris Map

Altar of Flame

Rewards

  • Reputation Rank 4: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 7: Enhancement Prism (3)
  • Reputation Rank 10: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Reputation Rank 13: Upgrade Module (2)
  • Reputation Rank 16: Trials Weapon (Changes for each rank reset)
  • Flawless Reward: Astral Horizon (Adept)

Reputation System, Trials Engrams, and Adept Farming

Win individual rounds within each match to gain Trials reputation. The amount of reputation you gain increases with each round you’ve won on your card. Earn enough reputation, and you’ll be able to claim a Trials Engram from Saint-14! This engram can be focused into any currently available trials loot you have previously obtained, or it can be taken to Master Rahool for a random Trials drop. Your reputation increases after every match completion, based on the number of round-wins on your card, regardless of the result of that match itself (win or lose, 0-5 or 5-4).

Once you have gone Flawless, keep playing! Every win you achieve while at the 7-win level, even if you lose your Flawless, has a chance to drop bonus Trials Engrams, adept weapons, prisms, and even Ascendant Shards. There is no penalty for losing once you’ve made it to the Lighthouse!

When you’re done, you can cash in your 7-win passage for one additional adept drop, granted you have gone Flawless that week. This resets your card so you can start anew.

Passages

Name Perk Cost
Passage of Ferocity Your third match win grants a bonus win. 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Mercy Forgives one loss per run. Forgives a second loss if you have not yet been flawless this week. 15 Legendary Shards
Passage of Wealth Increased reputation from match wins on a ticket. 25 Legendary Shards
Passage of Confidence Grants bonus rewards from Flawless Chest. 50 Legendary Shards

High on Life PlayStation Port Spotted Online

High on Life was released exclusively for Xbox and PC in December 2022, and became quite popular, setting Game Pass records due to its Rick and Morty-esque comedic nature. Now, it looks like even PlayStation fans of the shooter can enjoy the game as a High on Life PlayStation version surfaced online.

A PS4 game update tracker, Orbis Patches, shows a listing for High on Life on PS4. The listing was also created earlier this week on July 17 but does not mention a PS5 release. However, it’s quite likely that the game will be coming on PS5 as well.

The High on Life PS4 version shows that it is running on patch 1.03 and is around 10GB in space. Squanch Games hasn’t announced or acknowledged a PlayStation port of High on Life yet, but this indicates that a port is likely coming soon.

Recently, during the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, Squanch Games announced a High on Life paid expansion called “High on Knife” is coming soon, and will feature Gabourey Sidibe, Sarah Sherman, and Alec Robbins as voice actors for some of the characters.

If you’re wondering whether the game is worth picking up, High on Life scored an impressive 8.5/10 in our review, with our editor praising the gunplay and visuals.

Are you considering to check out High on Life on PlayStation? Let us know in the comments below!

Thanks, Knoebelbroet

Bleach Brave Souls Update 1.40 Out for New App Icon This July 21

KLabGames has released Bleach Brave Souls update 1.40 on all platforms this July 21. This is tagged as version 15.1.0 by the developer. Today’s new update includes a new app icon and more. Read on for the Bleach Brave Souls patch notes posted down below.

Bleach Brave Souls Update 1.40 Patch Notes | Bleach Brave Souls 15.1.0 Patch Notes | Bleach Brave Souls July 21 Patch Notes:

Version 15.1.0 Update

New App Icon

We have updated the design of the app icon.

Skill Key Removal

During this update’s maintenance, Skill Keys were removed from the game and players who were still in possession of them were compensated with Coins.

Coins were added directly to players’ inventories. However, any Coins that would exceed the maximum allowed were sent to their Gift Boxes.

With the removal of Skill Keys, the rewards of some Challenge Orders were changed.

Disruptive Behavior and Misconduct Form

A button linking to the Report Cheating or Disruptive Behavior form has been added to the Contact Us screen.

Adjustments to the Treatment of Lost Connections During Co-Op

Co-Op Quests have been adjusted so that if the player who made the room is disconnected, the room will automatically be closed.

Adjustment to How Some Accessory Effects Are Displayed

The appearance of some Accessories during Accessory Machine use, Fusion, and Recycling has been changed.

Game Center Link Option

Players using the iOS version of the game, please be aware that we have stopped new data linkage with the Game Center.

Any players who linked their game data with the Game Center before new links were stopped will be able to use the Game Center for data linkage until service is completely stopped.

Since there is a possibility that data linkage with the Game Center will not be possible in the future, we would like to ask players who are only using the Game Center data link option to make use of KLab ID or Sign in with Apple.

Character Link and Accessory Sets

Players can now save sets of Character Links and Accessories on the preparation screens for single-player quests, Co-Op Quests, Epic Raids, the Limit Breaker Quest, and the Augment/Ascend screen. Up to five sets can be saved per Attribute.

Epic Raid Sets Improvement

When starting a room in an Epic Raid with a character that does not meet the Epic Raid entry requirements, a set that meets these requirements will be automatically selected.

Epic Raid Result Screen Improvement

Players will now be able to skip the item effects and animations on the Results screen of an Epic Raid they cleared using 5 Soul Tickets.

Item Screen Improvement

After locking an Accessory through the Accessory details screen, tapping Close will no longer take players back to the top of the Accessory list.

Issues Fixed

– In Extreme Co-Op, starting a new room but setting no rules resulted in only players of the room owner’s League or above being allowed to enter.

– In Chronicle Quests, a pop-up stating that players already possessed the maximum amount of Fragments was being displayed even if they had not reached the maximum.

Please be aware that this issue was only cosmetic and did not affect Fragment drops. Fragments were being accumulated as intended.

– Participating in the Arena as a guest would result in enemies not moving towards the player.

– Under certain conditions, the Ailment Reversal skill was not activating in the Arena.

– There were cases where pop-ups related to updates to our privacy policy did not display.

– Participating in a Co-Op Quest as a quest would result in the boss not moving around the map correctly.

As compensation for the above issues, all players will have 5 Spirit Orbs sent to their Gift Boxes.

We hope you continue to enjoy the game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition PS5 Bundle, Collector’s Edition Statue and Story Trailer Swing Out

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Insomniac Games held a panel to talk about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In the panel, the studio released a new trailer for the game, and also gave fans a look at the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 limited edition PS5 bundle.

Check out the trailer alongside details on the limited edition PS5.

“At the beginning of our story, our Spider-Men are at the top of their game,” said Paquette. “But both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are struggling with their personal lives. Miles is trying to find time to write his college entrance essay, but he keeps procrastinating and focusing on Spider-Work instead. Meanwhile, Peter is underwater on payments for Aunt May’s house, but he can’t sell, it means too much to him. And just like Miles, Peter tries (and fails) to find balance with so many responsibilities. MJ wants to help Pete with the mortgage, but her job is on the line now that J. Jonah Jameson is back at the Bugle and looking to clean house. Our heroes have arrived at a confluence of crossroads, with uncertain futures, and some tough decisions ahead.”

When Kraven’s hunters arrive in the city, it sets off a mystery of why they are there and who, and what, they are hunting. But as the Spider-Men and MJ dig deeper into Kraven’s motivations, the symbiote begins to threaten Marvel’s New York and everyone and everything they hold dear.

In addition tot he new story trailer, Insomniac Games also revealed our first look at the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition statue! It show Venom fighting both Peter and Miles, and just looks marvelous.

Speaking of Venom, here’s what the studio had to share about their interpretation of the character:

Our Venom was inspired by the comics, but there have been so many interpretations that it was fun to pick and choose what fits the game,” said Chew. “He has a unique take on the white spider icon and has the anatomy of a human. He also has powerful tendril attacks that can take many forms. It was challenging to find the right balance between liquid and solid in Venom’s materials as going too watery makes him look weak and going too solid can quickly turn him into a tentacle monster. Venom must look both powerful and semi liquid at the same time.”

Finally, the studio showed off the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 limited edition PS5 bundle! Check out the trailer and details below.

For those who already own a PS5 console, Sony has announced that gamers will be able to purchase the limited edition items separately! The PS5 console covers featured in the trailer, and the limited edition DualSense, and the bundle can be bought starting September 1. The bundle will include a game code for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which can be redeemed on October 20.

For players purchasing the full PS5 bundle, the included game voucher can be redeemed when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on October 20. Players who purchase the bundle, which has a voucher for the digital Standard Edition of the game, will also get the same pre-order incentive items available to those who pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including an early unlock Arachknight Suit for Peter with 3 additional color variants, an early unlock Shadow Spider Suit for Miles with 3 additional color variants, an early unlock Web Grabber gadget, and 3 skill points.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 swings out on the PS5 this October 20.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer, Limited Edition Spider-Man PS5 Images From SDCC Leak Out (Update)

Earlier this month, Insomniac Games announced that they would be holding a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which kicked off today. Well, it seems the studio revealed a new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story trailer, and even a special PS5 at the show

While footage and anything from the panel wasn’t meant to be shared, it seems someone did just that (to no one’s surprise) and shared it online.

The video was posted by YouTuber GuruReviews, and was shared online. Check out the video below from a Twitter user who ripped the YouTube video, as well as a streamable video:

https://streamable.com/t1djmg?src=player-page-share

Best to watch these videos now before they’re taken down. In addition to the videos, a new limited edition PS5 was unveiled too! While Insomniac announced that it will be available this September 1, 2023, we have our first look at it thanks to the leaker in stolen images:

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition PS5 Images:

No word yet on when Insomniac will officially release the new story trailer and the PS5 unit images, but once they do, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for an October 20 release for the PS5.

Thanks, ak47rocks1337yt!

Update: Sony has released the official trailers for both the story trailer and the limited edition PS5. Check out the official trailers and details for it here.

Square Enix: Final Fantasy 16 Sales “Extremely Strong” Relative to PS5 Install Base

Square Enix’s most recent fantasy RPG title, Final Fantasy 16, apparently sports “extremely strong” sales numbers, according to the developer themselves. For reference, Final Fantasy 16 sales hit over 3 million copies sold in less than a week.

The reasoning behind FF16’s successful sales numbers, Square Enix tells IGN, is the install base of the PS5, and that given the somewhat limited number of PS5 users compared to last-gen consoles, it still sold well.

With 38 million PS5 consoles shipped globally (as of March 31, 2023), sales of Final Fantasy 16 surpassed three million units worldwide several days after its release on June 22, 2023.

Square Enix also compared FF16’s sales to that of another recent FF game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake:

Taking into consideration the sales figures of the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the difference in size of the install base of the PlayStation 4 at the time of this title’s release, we can see that the attach rate of Final Fantasy 16 is considerably high, given the PS5 install base.

Square Enix considers the initial sales results of Final Fantasy 16 to be extremely strong, and we will continue to carry out a wide range of initiatives to encourage even more people to play the game.

The Final Fantasy series as a whole recently reached a major milestone of 180 million copies sold across all games and available platforms, and while FF16’s numbers currently seem like more of a drop in the bucket, we’re still a month into the game’s release, and only time will tell how well the game will perform in the long run.

XDefiant Dev Comments on Fully Customizable HUD, Ping-Based Matchmaking, Possibility of Theater Mode

With more and more games now allowing crossplay and different input methods in multiplayer, some might not want to be matched up against keyboard & mouse gamers if they’re using a controller. While XDefiant’s matchmaking algorithm has been confirmed to match players with the same input method (ie. controller vs. controller), there’s still the question of pings.

Of course, in almost any multiplayer game, ping is king, and it’s the same for XDefiant. But what if you’re playing in an area/country that can’t find a suitable ping for you? Well, the devs have confirmed that they’ve set it up in a way that if the game really can’t find good ping games, it will mix input matchmaking into the equation as well.

This was mentioned by XDefiant Producer Mark Rubin, who also commented on a few other things regarding the game.

Rubin also confirmed that we’ll be seeing camo challenges for weapons and other free content to grind for that’s not paid.

Speaking of paid, Rubin also mentioned that only cosmetics will be behind a paywall (Battle Pass, etc.) and that Factions and other gameplay-related stuff can be grinded by players.

Rubin also commented on the possiblity of a Theater Mode coming to the game as well. While it’s not planned at the moment, he is a “fan” of the idea, and could be something they implement in the future.

Finally, Rubin has also expressed the idea of a fully customizable HUD for the game, though that won’t be available at launch, it’s something that’s not ruled out from happening (which would be awesome if it comes to fruition).

As a multiplayer shooter fan, these all sound great. Hopefully, the devs can push through their plans once the game launches. As for a release date, there is still no release date set outside of “summer,” but only for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, as Ubisoft has confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch at a later date.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Developers Reveal New Look and Details About Venom

In a new interview, Insomniac Games’ Creative Director Bryan Intihar talks about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Venom and other plot details. During the interview, the developers also revealed a new in-game screenshot of the classic Spider-Man villain.

Intihar reveals that casting a voice actor for Venom was one of the things he was avoiding, as people would have “a lot of opinions on it.”

Intihar: “(Casting Venom was) one of the things I was avoiding for as long as possible because I was so scared of who we were going to get to do the voice. We knew it would be so anticipated and people would have a lot of opinions on it.”

That was his opinion at least until the team sat down with Tony Todd who’s famously known for portraying the horror icon, Candyman. After hearing a few lines of Todd’s voice in the Candyman trailer, Intihar knew he would be the perfect candidate for Venom in Spider-Man 2.

Intihar: “”Everything we talked about [with] Venom — that sense of strength, that sense of fear, that sense of overwhelming, so different from Peter — Tony embraces that completely in the performance.”

After revealing the new in-game look at Venom, Art Director Jacinda Chew says:

“It’s really interesting when you start thinking about what makes him different than Spider-Man. The symbiote is often known as an allegory for the darkness that the host is fighting against. So what makes him an anti-Spider-Man?”

You can find the full interview with the Spider-Man 2 team notably Jacinda Chew, Jon Paquette, and Bryan Intihar with Entertainment Weekly below. The team goes into detail about how the first game leads directly to the sequel and builds more on how the symbiote affects not only Peter but the people around him as well.

Intihar: “We wanted to try something very different, and I don’t think you can get much more different from Doc Ock than you do Venom. It’s about power, it’s about strength, it’s about being slighted, it’s about Peter being involved much more in the creation of Venom. I think that’s what attracted us.”

More information about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will drop during SDCC 2023 today. The panel includes Bryan Intihar, Jon Paquette, Jacinda Chew along with Tony Todd himself as well as Game Director Ryan Smith. We will let our readers know as soon as more information swings out.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for an October 20 release for the PS5.

Diablo 4 Dungeon Rewards Issue for Arkhan’s Grasp, Buried Halls and Endless Gates Acknowledged by Blizzard

While Blizzard released a patch earlier today that touched on a few improvements, it seems some issues have escaped the studio’s eyes, as there is an on-going Diablo 4 dungeon rewards issue affecting Arkhan’s Grasp, Buried Halls and Endless Gates.

Diablo 4 Dungeon Rewards Issue:

Here’s the announcement by Blizzard regarding the issues:

The team is investigating an issue and working on a fix with rewards not appearing for players who complete the Nightmare Dungeon for Akhan’s Grasp.

The team will be rolling out a hotfix for this issue in the near future.

We are also aware the normal Dungeons for Buried Halls and Endless Gates are not awarding rewards upon completion and are looking into a fix for that.

As you can see, a hotfix will be released in the “near future,” which we’re hoping means the next few days.

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition Review – Matching Soldiers

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition is the extended but fitting name for the remake of Capybara Games’ acclaimed turn-based strategy RPG. Over a decade since its original launch and possibly little more than a fond memory to gamers who have enjoyed it back then, this upgrade keeps the charm intact but revisits some aspects for a new generation of players. The old motto suits this game: don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Now With More Characters

Clash of Heroes takes a timeless game system and gives it a new lick of paint, one that is suited to the long-lasting Might and Magic series. You may know this type of puzzle gameplay by the popular match-3 moniker, where you try to connect units of the same color to score. In the case of this game, there are a lot of underlying mechanics that add significant depth and unpredictability to the outcome of the matches. It can be both addictive and frustrating, more of the former than the latter, and really shines when you are playing against a human, as the AI provides a challenge but is ultimately flawed.

But before diving into the mechanics, a quick look over the main features coming in this edition. The I Am the Boss DLC: Switch to the side of Chaos allows you to play with one of four bosses in multiplayer (Carlyle, Azexes, Ludmilla, and Azh Rafir), and Euny the Archdruid is available as well, increasing your multiplayer choice to a total of eleven characters.

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition Review

The character portrait artworks were revamped and are now slightly more detailed, but the rest of the graphics didn’t deserve the same attention, remaining pretty much the same as when the original game launched back in late 2009. The maps still look good, with a nice hand painted style that aged with grace. The same goes for the units, mostly untouched in this remake, still cute and colorful but nothing to write home about. Could something else have been done in this department? The answer is yes, even if the argument that this is not the kind of game that lives by its graphics can be easily thrown around.

Clash of Heroes comes with a huge campaign divided into various chapters where you control a different hero, and consequently distinct units. You may have to start from scratch for each one, as you recruit and purchase new troops, but with the added knowledge and the experience of fighting some of these creatures in previous stages, progress should be smoother.

Moving around is a matter of walking on predefined markers, there’s no free movement of any sort. This limited tactical approach pushes you in certain directions and keeps the story battles coming consistently, but also provides opportunities for puzzles. Staying out of sight from some guards or arranging logs in a way that allows you to cross a river are just a couple of challenges that give you something other than combat to test your wits.

Merging Left and Right

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition Review

The start of each chapter is an intentionally slow one aimed at teaching you the basics of combat, but mostly to take your time as you discover the new units. A complete army is comprised of three core units and two special units, but the twist is that the latter are finite – if they are killed in battle, they are lost forever, and your only option is to buy more somewhere on the map. Since these are stronger units with powerful and resourceful attacks, they are crucial to have, and they level up just as your character does. The goal of each battle is to drain the health points from the opponent by hitting the background line.

Merging three base units of the same color vertically triggers an attack, while doing the same horizontally creates a defensive wall. Depending on the type of merge, you must wait a few turns for the attack move to unleash. The core mechanics are simple, but things get more intensive as superior troops come into play, requiring other types and numbers of units to merge. Hit the opponent’s high tier units before they merge, and you are saving yourself from some massive damage in a few turns.

A few other factors come into play such as fusion, where you merge two chained units set to attack, consequently doubling the power, and each hero has a unique skill that can be used when your defensive line has taken severe damage. But the true gamechangers are the artifacts, pieces that you collect in your journey and come with the hard task of selecting one from several. Getting yourself a new lease on life or saving a move when calling reinforcements are options that you must consider if you want to win.

While most battles are straightforward rushes to bringing the opponent’s health down to zero, sometimes you may face a puzzle battle. Within a fixed number of moves, you may have to take out a few enemies, and other times you must aim your attacks to eliminate the enemies instead of the standard health line.

The multiplayer mode offers 1v1 and 2v2 battles with leaderboard, and this is where the real thrills are. All the campaign expertise is put into practice here, with characters and units that have their own strengths and weaknesses.

An Essential Upgrade?

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes - Definitive Edition Review

Clash of Heroes can be challenging and addictive, but there’s an undeniable RNG element that plays an important role in some battles, and you must learn to live with it. Less understandable are some oversights that shouldn’t be in this definitive edition, such as the noticeable AI blunders – ignoring an elite unit merge in favor of a random move, for example. On the other hand, the turn switch animation troubles me, feeling like a second that lasts an eternity, as we’re bound to see it dozens of times per battle. This system would benefit from speed and urgency when control changes from one field to the other, instead of that lingering animation.

Can Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition be considered as an essential revamp to a cherished game? It doesn’t bring a hefty dose of changes and additions, that’s for sure, making it difficult to recommend to owners of the original; however, new players should be able to discover a gripping puzzle game that, albeit not perfect, still provides many hours of merging and fusing entertainment.

Score: 8/10

Pros:

  • A vast campaign with different playable heroes
  • Battles are challenging and more intricate than it seems at first
  • Multiplayer mode with more characters than before

Cons:

  • Not a massive jump from the original
  • Turn switch should be faster
  • Some AI niggles
