MLB The Show 23 Review – More Than a Game

The launch of sports games has become an annual tradition that many fans have used as the punchline of a joke. Sure, new iterations of sports games tend to have the latest graphics and mechanics, but they’re mainly a glorified roster update. That isn’t the case with MLB The Show 23.

Already praised for being the most authentic baseball simulator available, this year’s game introduces the Negro League Storylines that teaches fans about key iconic Black ballplayers that influenced the sport today.

In addition to that, the gameplay feels

Remembering Forgotten Stars

The newest mode in MLB The Show 23 is without a doubt its best. The Negro League Storylines highlights eight black players who impacted the sport in several ways: Satchel Paige, Hilton Smith, Rube Foster, Hank Thompson, Buck O’Neil, Jackie Robinson, John Donaldson, and Martin Dihigo. Without these historic people, baseball wouldn’t be the sport we all know and love today.

Rube Foster standing on the field

Most fans recognize Jackie Robinson’s name immediately, as he was the first Black player to break the color barrier and play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. But what about John Donaldson, the man who likely invented the Slider? Or maybe Rube Foster, the man who formed the Negro Leagues in the first place? These are baseball’s greatest pioneers, and MLB The Show 23 does a beautiful job of telling their stories and making sure their sacrifices and triumphs aren’t forgotten.

Each player will have eight or nine episodes that contain situations in their career. You’ll complete the tasks in each episode while also learning about the impact they made on baseball. After completing each player’s episode, you’ll receive their player card to use in Diamond Dynasty.

Major League Dream

Besides the Negro Leagues Storylines, MLB The Show 23 offers the same game modes as previous iterations: Road to the Show, Diamond Dynasty, March to October, and Franchise. While it might seem uninspiring to see the same stuff, maybe it’s just really great stuff that doesn’t need any changing at all? Road to the Show remains a top career mode as you try to achieve your MLB dreams.

Road to the Show drafted

Being a two-way player is the recommended way, as you get to experience pitching, fielding, and hitting, you’re welcome to choose any position to play. Once you finish customizing your character, you’ll be drafted to a team (probably your favorite one) and begin your career. You’ll need to complete tasks to unlock new equipment and Perks to help increase your attributes. It might be hard sledding at first, but when you finally get the call to the majors, it’ll all be worth it.

Controlling Teams

But if Road to the Show isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always Diamond Dynasty or Franchise. Franchise remains the standard team-building mode, with you taking control of a team and trying to win a World Series. You can choose how much control you have over the team when it comes to setting lineups, scouting, and dealing with free agency. The level of customization in how much or less control you have over the team allows you to dictate how complex it is. For seasoned players, you might choose to have the budget on and figure out ways to increase the revenue. That’s a bit too much for me, but it’s nice having the option.

Controlled team

The other team-building mode is Diamond Dynasty. It incorporates card-collecting into team-building by creating a team based on cards you unlock in packs. You can customize the team by changing the name, jerseys, and stadiums in which you play. There are missions to complete that will earn you XP and the Stubs currency for you to use to purchase more card packs. The XP is applied to a general reward path, and you’ll receive prizes as you play games.

Diamond Dynasty has mini-seasons with 28 regular season games that are three innings long if you want a more traditional baseball experience. Conquest is more of a board game-style experience where your goal is to control the entire map. There are online modes as well, with special timed events and missions that reward team-specific unlockables. All in all, there is tons of content to play through in Diamond Dynasty, and no matter what you play, you’ll be earning XP toward various rewards.

Verdict

Even though annual sports games are becoming more of a joke, MLB The Show remains an impeccable product. It offers several ways to enjoy the baseball experience, whether it’s creating your own character in Road to the Show or trying to build a championship team in either Franchise or Diamond Dynasty. But the most important part of MLB The Show 23 is the Negro League Storylines. San Diego Studios should be praised for telling the amazing stories of baseball’s forgotten stars. It’s features like this that transform a game into something more than just random pixels on-screen, and that’s exactly what MLB The Show 23 managed to do. San Diego Studio didn’t just manage to craft a good baseball game, but something special that goes beyond the sport it represents, which is no small feat for any title, more so for an annual sports game.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Negro Leagues Storylines
  • Road to the Show Skill Set and Perks
  • Earn XP through any mode
  • Soundtrack

Cons:

  • Diamond Dynasty jersey customization is almost unusable
  • No place to just look at all the rosters

SNK News Trailer Reveals Goenitz as Free KOF XV Character Update, Rollback Netcode Announcements, and More

A recent SNK news trailer featuring various titles from the Japanese game studio has revealed that Goenitz returns in King of Fighters XV as a free character update as well as rollback netcode announcements for a couple of other titles.

You can watch the full news trailer here:

The video begins with already-known announcements of Kim Kaphwan and Sylvie Paula Paula as DLC characters. It also mentions the cross-platform update that’s set to go live this spring. New information is also showcased, however, with one of the main highlights being Goenitz, a returning King of Fighters character that’s set to arrive sometime in Summer 2023. Goenitz will come as a free update to players.

Aside from KOF 15, the SNK news trailer also revealed that two of the company’s games would be getting a rollback netcode update. Both Samurai Showdown and King of Fighters 13 are set to receive the netcode update in Spring and Summer 2023, respectively.

Finally, a new Fatal Fury/Garou game was announced in the trailer. There isn’t a whole lot of information to work with, but the reveal did come with some new art for the upcoming title.

With new characters, netcode updates, and a new game in development, SNK fans will have a lot to look forward to in the next few months and beyond.

Here Are Some of the Best Video Game April Fools’ Announcements for 2023

It’s April 1, also commonly known as April Fools’ Day, and that means pulling some pranks and making jokes. Game studios are also keen on joining in on the occasion, with many companies making fake April Fools’ announcements or posts.

Here’s a small compilation of what game studios have been up to this April 1:

Battlefield 2042 – Ishimura Edition

This fake announcement made by the official Battlefield Twitter page made players believe that the game would be getting an official collaboration with the recently released Dead Space remake. The tweet implied that players would be able to explore the USG Ishimura in-game.

Dead Island 2 – Meet the Slayers: Flambo

Dead Island 2, the upcoming zombie-slaying game by Dambuster Studios, features a cast of varied Slayers, each with their own unique abilities. This fake Slayers reveal video highlighted one of the pool floaties that you could find in-game, a flamingo-shaped pool float that apparently hates frat parties and influencers.

League of Legends – April Fools’ Update

League of Legends celebrates April Fools’ Day regularly, though this year they’ve seemed to up the antics a bit with a set of hats for players to collect throughout the game. This, accompanied by other shenanigans occurring throughout the Rift, was set to terrorize players from April 1 to April 2 local time.

Sniper Elite 5 – Gnome Way Home

Sniper Elite 5’s Gnome Way Home trailer looks pretty convincing for an April Fools’ joke, and while the trailer itself doesn’t really confirm that it’s a fake announcement, it’s hard to believe that gnomes will take a more active role in gameplay other than being shootable in-game statues.

Valorant – Cypher’s Revenge Game Mode

Valorant also made a fun announcement video that referenced a popular running joke in the community. Named “Cypher’s Revenge,” this new game mode would have players fight the one and only Moroccan spy. Cypher is often memed for being the one Agent that dies in many of Riot Games’ cinematics and trailers, and Cypher’s Revenge was meant to be a form of retaliation against this sort of treatment. While Cypher’s Revenge isn’t a real game mode, players can pick up the “Here I Am” spray for free by logging in before April 8.

As the fake announcements were made in good fun, it’s nice to see studios engage in less serious activities with their audiences, especially during occasions such as April Fools’ Day.

Resident Evil 4 Remake The Mercenaries Mod Makes Ada Wong Playable

Following a recent datamine of the Resident Evil 4 remake’s The Mercenaries DLC, a modder has managed to turn Ada Wong, one of the game’s prominent figures, into a playable character. The modder was able to incorporate movement, animations, and more into the game.

Here’s what the game would look like if you played as Ada Wong:

Interestingly, the files from the “The Mercenaries” datamine included enough resources for the modder, Raq, to incorporate “everything” into this modded version of RE4. The tweet does mention that the modder was only able to play through the start of the game, so more playtesting may be required.

The recent datamine for The Mercenaries has given players quite a bit of information on what to expect when it arrives in less than a week. It’s set to feature time-limited challenges in various areas of RE4, and will also include alternate outfits for Leon and Ada and even a new playable character in Luis. Datamining has also revealed a possible second DLC in Separate Ways, which is a mode that was present in the original RE4 game.

Resident Evil 4 remake’s The Mercenaries DLC will arrive this April 7 as a free update for players across all platforms.

Ark 2 Delayed to 2024; Ark Survival Ascended for Next-Gen Announced and Here Are Its New Features

It’s been a rather busy day at Studio Wildcard, as the studio made a few key announcements today! Chief among them is the announcement that Ark 2 has been delayed to 2024!

Originally announced back in 2020, Ark 2 was supposed to be released this year. Well, it seems that’s not happening now.

Here’s the announcement from Studio Wildcard regarding the Ark 2 delay:

After much careful thought and consideration, ARK 2 is delayed until the end of 2024, when it will launch exclusively on Xbox, Game Pass, and Windows distribution platforms (Steam/PC). This extra time allows ARK 2 to be the best game it can be and provide a truly exceptional and rewarding experience for players. UE5 is incredibly new technology and with ARK 2, this cutting-edge tech will be used to its fullest potential. As the team learns more about the engine through ASA and develops the sequel, adapted workflows and adjusted pipelines are being created to accommodate this next-generation paradigm. Because of everything that involves, more time is needed.

While that’s a bummer for Ark fans, there is something to tide you over (sort of), as Studio Wildcard has also announced Ark Survival Ascended, which is a next-gen remaster of Ark Survival Evolved. It’s built using Unreal Engine 5, and will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC this August 2023. The base game for Ark Survival Ascended will include The Island, a revamped Survival of the Fittest and all the “non-canon” DLC maps (which will be added over time, and not in one drop).

ark survival ascended

ARK: Survival Ascended will also feature the following improvements and enhancements:

  • Unreal Engine 5 Overhaul with Nanite, Lumen, and RTXDI
  • Dynamic Water and Interactive Foliage
  • Cross-platform Multiplayer
    • This includes cross-platform accounts and cross-progression, cross-voice chat & friends, etc. No matter what platform ASA is started on, access is available to each account, character, dinos, and items on a different platform.
  • Cross-platform Modding
    • Studio Wildcard has chosen to partner with Overwolf, the modding platform leader, to introduce an industry-first cross-platform modding experience where mods created on PC are delivered directly to end-users’ consoles from a custom modding backend.
    • Premium Modding Market: Mod creators will optionally be able to specify price points for their Mods (with 50% of the price point going to the Mod author). All mods will be reviewed by Overwolf and Studio Wildcard for quality control and value. The remainder pays for the custom infrastructure required for Overwolf to support, administrate, and deliver Mods to the console.
  • Survival of the Fittest
    • SOTF will be integrated into ASA as a new fully-supported game mode. It will have a dedicated development team that will continue to work on gameplay changes, mechanical improvements, quality of life, maps, and balance adjustments. The mode will be revamped with an exclusive ARK: Survival Ascended update, including:
      • Upgraded to UE5 with complete cross-platform and cross-modding support
      • Scorched Earth SOTF map
      • Matchmaking queue
      • Character and creature customization with cosmetics
      • Lots of bug-fixes and balance and functionality improvements
  • Upgraded art assets throughout the entire game.
  • Newly-designed holiday events released as mods so they’re always available to play!
  • New content, QoL improvements, balance, and gameplay changes.

Xbox Series X|S and PC players will be able to purchase with the Ark Respawned Bundle. This includes ownership of both Survival Ascended and Ark 2, and will be priced at $49.99. This bundle will be available to be purchased from the end of August for up to one year (after which Ark: Survival Ascended and Ark 2 will be sold separately). In addition to that, the bundle will provide players access to an exclusive one-month closed beta for Ark 2 as well.

PS5 users will be able to get their hands on ARK: Survival Ascended at launch in August 2023 for $39.99 as a standalone next-gen game.

Additional Story Expansion Packs will be sold separately on all platforms:

  • $19.99 for Explorer’s Pass, which includes Scorched Earth, Aberration (Q4 2023), and Extinction (Q1 2024).
  • $19.99 for Genesis Pass, which includes Genesis Part 1 (Q1 2024) and Genesis Part 2 (Q2 2024).

Lastly, there’s a new canonical-story expansion pack for Ark: Survival Ascended that will be available in Q4 2023, and this will feature four new creatures with more info set to be revealed later this year,

Resident Evil 4 Remake Survey Released by Capcom, Chapter 12 Progression Bug Acknowledged

While Resident Evil 4 remake is already a success, Capcom isn’t done collecting feedback from it, as the publisher has pushed out a new Resident Evil 4 remake survey that all players can participate in.

You can take the survey here, and those who participate will get a digital wallpaper as a gift. Capcom has also confirmed that another survey will be released later this year as well.

While we’re all waiting for The Mercenaries title update to drop, the new mode won’t be the only thing included in the patch, as Capcom has confirmed the Resident Evil 4 Chapter 12 progression bug once a player picks up a specific item. Note that the item isn’t named as to avoid spoilers.

https://twitter.com/RE_Games/status/1641753718516318208

This Resident Evil 4 key item bug isn’t the only thing acknowledged by Capcom, as there’s also the flickering issue plaguing PS5 gamers since launch.

Will Capcom release a new patch just for tech fixes? If there’s one pushed out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

Wild Hearts Next Update “Lethal Blossoms” Releases April 6, Info and Trailer Showcases New Content

A new Wild Hearts update, “Lethal Blossoms,” has been announced for April 6 later this year. The new update will feature a new kemono and new karakuri, among other things.

You can find the new trailer below:

The sight of drifting cherry blossoms once inspired awe and delight —now– now it fills the people of Azuma with dread. A sakura spirit of both immense beauty and destruction has arrived. Only the greatest hunters will be able to triumph over the deadly Murakumo. The Kemono’s appearance seems to have awakened a powerful new Karakuri as well, the Spinning Top. Mastery of this Karakuri could mean the difference between a successful hunt and a disastrous one.

The Murakumo, a new kemono introduced in the Lethal Blossoms update, conjures up wild winds that can be difficult to deal with. With the new karakuri, known as the Spinning Top, however, players can deal with the Murakomo and gain more power as it bounces around the battlefield.

Wild Hearts Next Update Lethal Blossoms New Content:

Here are all of the features set to go live in the update:

New Kemono Species – Murakumo
Strange winds swirl the sakura blossoms, which fail to fall even long after spring has passed. When rumors spread of this eerie sight, parents warn their children to keep their distance. Knowing that should you wander too close, the vulpine fiend appears and spirits you away. For it is no mere wind; it is the Murakumo.

This Kemono’s plethora of petal-manipulating attacks are a real menace. It courses through the air on platforms made of sakura blossoms. Which, in turn, makes counterattacking tricky. When enraged, the vulpine beast unleashes a thunderous tornado that could easily leave you unconscious. Hunters would be wise to employ a Spinning Top Karakuri to fight against the beast.

New Karakuri – Spinning Top
Once unleashed, the Spinning Top closes in on prey to deliver a stubborn assault. Whenever it hits Kemono or other obstacles, it gains both speed and power. The Spinning Top can stagger Kemono given it has enough speed and power when it connects.

Limit Breaking Weapons, Armor
Hunters can use Core Orbs to further enhance weapons and armor. The number of times you can carry out such enhancements, and the effects they have, are different for each piece of equipment.

Core orbs can mainly be obtained by successfully hunting Volatile Kemono. The type of core orb dropped will depend on where you are hunting.

Additional Fixes, Improvements
The team is still hard at work to pack in as many fixes, improvements and adjustments as possible. Be on the lookout for the full bulleted update notes on April 6th. Thank you for your continued support and passion for WILD HEARTS™.

Deathhaze Gloombeak, New Talisman Skill, New Special Quests: Serial Hunts, New Chat Stamps & Emotes
The end of April is looking just as ferocious as the beginning! Make sure you’re prepared for another Deeply Volatile Kemono, Deathhaze Gloombeak, on April 20th.

Perhaps even more formidable, the next content update ushers in a new type of special quest – Serial Hunts. How many Kemono will you be able to hunt before being overwhelmed?

The Lethal Blossoms update is set to go live on April 6. Once it’s out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

The latest Wild Hearts update was released on March 27, which you can read about here.

Marvel’s Avengers update 1.000.053 is now live on all platforms, and this is for the v2.8 patch, which is the last patch planned for the game. Expect a ton of free cosmetics to be part of today’s patch. Read up on what’s new one last time in the Marvel’s Avengers new update patch notes for March 31!

Marvel’s Avengers Update 1.000.053 Patch Notes for March 31:

NEW FEATURES

  • The Marketplace has been unlocked! What does this mean?
    • Nearly all MCU- and non-MCU-inspired Outfits, Emotes, Takedowns, and Nameplates are now automatically available on your Hero Card.
    • Items that are earned through the campaign, however, or purchased through the Cosmetic Vendor must be earned or purchased, respectively, as they always have been.
    • Both the Shipments system and Hero Challenge Cards have both been completely removed from the game. Items that were previously earnable from Shipments and Hero Challenge Cards are included in the hundreds of Marketplace items that are automatically granted when you update to v2.8.
    • You do not need to be connected to the internet to be able to access all of the unlocked Marketplace content after updating to v2.8.
  • As a thank-you to players who’ve been with us on the journey, we’re granting a special Founder’s Gift – Iron Man’s ‘Variable Threat Response Battle Suit.’ This Outfit will be automatically granted to any player who has earned at least one Trophy/Achievement before April 1.

  • All existing Credits balances have been converted to in-game resources. The chart below breaks down that conversion. For questions regarding your balance conversion, please contact our Support team at: http://support.crystald.com/

Credits conversion table

  • Owned Hero’s Catalysts and Fragment Extractors have been completely removed from the game. In their place, there is now a permanent 1.5x multiplier on Fragments earned and XP gained.
  • There will be a small hotfix, Update 2.8.1, that goes live on April 4 to address a Known Issue. (This issue is detailed in the Patch Notes.)

REASSEMBLE CAMPAIGN & AVENGERS INITIATIVE

  • Friendly fire! AI Companions will no longer target Kate Bishop’s Decoy when it is deployed during certain boss encounters.
  • We fixed an exploit where the Winter Soldier could activate the heavy intrinsic attack ‘Blast Zone’ as a heavy dodge attack if ‘Vengeful Ghost’ was not a purchased skill.
  • Banter between Jane and Bucky, which wasn’t activating for some players, now triggers when intended.

COMBAT

  • We fixed an issue where Black Panther’s ‘Kinetic Boom’ skill was not increasing the damage of ‘Panther’s Dive.’
  • Thor’s ‘Rampant Supercharge’ perk now functions properly when ‘Warrior’s Fury’ is activated.
  • Hawkeye’s ‘Rocket Arrow’ wasn’t initiating for some players when the ‘Volatile Rockets’ skill was activated, but the ‘Rocket Arrow’ now activates, as intended.
  • Switching gun types at the start of a charge animation no longer prevents the Winter Soldier from executing ranged power attacks.
  • You are no longer able to use the Winter Soldier’s ‘Press the Charge’ skill without having first acquired it.
  • The Mighty Thor’s gear perk ‘Divine Blast Assistance’ now applies intrinsic overload to teammates, as intended.
  • The Winter Soldier’s ‘Lethal Rampant Plasma Boost’ perk now grants nanites when intended.
  • Ms. Marvel’s ‘Ultimate Lethal Cryo Administrator’ gear perk now applies the correct number of Cryo charges to allies.
  • The Ultimate Lethal Plasma Administrator gear perk now grants charges when defeating an enemy on the initial hit.
  • The Winter Soldier’s ‘Reactive Gamma Administrator’ gear perk now grants the correct number of charges to allies when using ‘Soldier’s Generosity.’
  • Similarly, we fixed the Winter Soldier’s ‘Reactive Gamma Administrator’ perk so that it grants charges, as intended, to allies for hitting enemies with ‘Bloodletting.’
  • Both the Winter Soldier’s ‘Cryo-’ and ‘Plasma Administrator’ perks now grant charges to allies.
  • Ms. Marvel’s ‘Polymorph Counter Spike’ perk now increases Critical Attack Damage, as intended.
  • Kate Bishop’s ‘Explosive Blast Frenzy’ perk now increases the firing speed of explosive arrows, as intended.
  • We fixed an issue with Heroes and invisibility where completing a takedown would enable enemy attacks on the player while the invisibility effect was active. That’s not how invisibility works!

GEAR & REWARDS

  • Endgame Mission Rewards (Both OLTs and Raid)
    • Superior gear can now be obtained from every completion, not just the weekly rotation.
    • Family Reunion and both versions of the Discordant Sound raid now grant up to PL 165 gear.
    • Events and Cloning Lab now provide a path to PL 175 gear.
  • Gear Upgrading – PL 165 to PL 175
    • Resources required to bring a piece of gear from the old PL cap to the new PL cap has been reduced.
    • Upgrade module cost is now capped at 150 per upgrade within this range.
    • Dismantling exotic gear returns 100 upgrade modules. 50 are returned from legendary gear.
  • Gear
    • Nanite charges from Cloning Lab gear now apply status damage via heavy melee attacks. Status build-up has been increased.
    • Cooldowns reduced for major artifact active effects.
    • Exotic artifact stat scaling improved.

USER INTERFACE

  • The Winter Soldier’s skill icons now display properly in the Hero Terminal.
  • JARVIS is back online! The Cloning Lab gear reward charges were not always appearing on the HUD when defeating enemies, but charges now display properly.
  • Lorem oop-sum! We replaced the placeholder text that appears in Captain America’s ‘Vanguard Charge’ skill with the correct description.
  • We repositioned Hawkeye’s Heroic Mission Chain reward icon to appear in the correct place.

ART & ANIMATION

  • When wearing his “Wasteland Warrior” Outfit, Hulk’s right shoulder no longer tears during gameplay.
  • The Winter Soldier’s gun no longer clips through his armor during gameplay.
  • The Winter Soldier’s muzzle flash VFX now display properly when executing takedowns on dreadbots during multiplayer sessions.
  • There’s a glitch in the multiverse! The Mighty Thor now uses the correct Mjolnir when activating her Ultimate while wearing her MCU-inspired Outfit.
  • Cap’s shield can do many things, but invisibility is not one of them! We fixed an issue where Captain America’s shield would disappear momentarily when using the ‘Looking Sharp’ emote.
  • We fixed an issue where the Winter Soldier’s rifle would appear, stuck to his hand, during several interactions on the Helicarrier (including the interaction with Mjolnir).
  • Similarly, the Winter Soldier’s rifle no longer attaches to random props when performing various emotes.
  • We adjusted The Mighty Thor’s ‘Unhelmed’ Outfit mesh so that the Outfit displays the correct hair color.
  • Bucky’s legs no longer distort or experience clipping with Cap’s shield when using the ‘Passing the Mantle’ emote.
  • Captain America’s shield now reseats on his arm properly when activating his intrinsic ability while vaulting.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Faction Terminal Missions and Assignments will not be completable from 12 p.m. UTC to 5 p.m. local time. This will be fixed in an upcoming hotfix, Update 2.8.1, which launches on April 4.

Final Fantasy 16 Hits Gold Status

It looks like nothing’s going to stop the Final Fantasy 16 train from heading out this June, as Square Enix has announced that the action-RPG has hit gold!

This announcement was made by the dev team over on the official Final Fantasy XVI Twitter account:

The Google translation states:

Mastered up today #FF16 !
Both the staff and Torgal are delighted.

Please look forward to the release date 🐺

Those not familiar with the term “gold” in gaming development circles, this means that the game is now essentially finished, and is ready to be sent to manufacturers to make copies of it. Basically, outside of maybe some bug fixes, the game is good to go.

With what we’ve seen so far, Final Fantasy 16 looks to bring back the series’ reputation as one of the biggest franchises in gaming. Go check out the latest official gameplay released to see some Eikon vs Eikon combat.

Final Fantasy 16 is set for a June 22, 2023 launch on the PS5.

    • Made adjustments so that items with higher rarities are more likely to be dropped after the player defeats enemies with higher Morale Ranks than the player’s current Morale Rank.
    • Adjusted the lock-on target selection criteria to avoid prioritizing enemies farther away from the player even when there are other enemies nearby.

      • Adjusted the amount of damage dealt by each Divine Beast, taking into account the effect of the player’s Morale Rank.
    • Extended the duration of invincibility after performing Fatal Strikes or deflect in response to Critical Blows, as the effects of invincibility wore off before players regained control.
    • Made changes to Photograph mode so that the direction of camera movement and rotation is now based on the player’s view when tilting the camera.
    • Made changes so that Revenge is not overwritten when players are defeated by the target of Revenge and are awaiting aid during multiplayer sessions.

Wolcen Update 1.03 Released for Chapter 4 Progression Fix This March 30

Wolcen update 1.03 (Xbox version 1.1.7.10) has been released by Wolcen Studio, and this has separate fixes for PlayStation and Xbox platforms. For PlayStation gamers, this fixes the Chapter 4 progression issue, though there are still major technical fixes needed outside of it. Check out the complete Wolcen March 30 patch notes for all platforms below.

Wolcen Update 1.03 Patch Notes | Wolcen Update 1.1.7.10 Patch Notes | Wolcen March 30 Patch Notes:

PlayStation:

  • Fixed an issue which would cause players to return to the main menu if their character was in Chapter IV. This fix also resolved several crashes that would occur during Chapter IV. We know this was a widespread issue and will continue monitoring for niche cases.
  • Online Improvements:
  • We have made some changes “under the hood” to improve manual server selection. Open the “Online” tab of your game settings to choose specific local servers close to you. The “Auto” and “Lowest Latency” options may produce strange results until a subsequent patch.
  • Improved the client and server-side memory management of Dungeon tiles, which should reduce both their loading times and their load on the servers.
  • Optimised logging on the server, which should improve performance slightly.

We advise players not to complete the “Ward the Palace” project in the Regent Assembly as it can cause a disconnection or crash during phase 3 of the Ahriman fight. We are actively working on a fix.

Xbox:

  • Resolved a UI softlock when accepting rewards from the Restock: Havar project in Champion of Stormfall mode.
  • Fixed an issue blocking some XBOX achievements from.
  • Fixed several issues which would cause some elements of the Ahriman fight to be missing.
  • Resolved two issues which would cause client and server crashes with particular interactions between the Flamethrower variant of the Punisher Exoskeleton enemy and the player.
  • Resolved an issue which would cause a client crash when using a particular combination of Skill Modifiers for the skill “Gunslinger’s Brand”.
  • Resolved an issue which would cause a client and server crash with a particular interaction between a Cult of Souls Soul Casket and the player.
  • Resolved an issue which would cause a client crash with a particular interaction between a Cult of Souls Risen Executioner and the player.

  • Improved the level of consistency between the “arena” area environments for Ahriman’s Lieutenants Operations.
  • Fixed an issue where quest markers would not appear after returning from the first portal area in the “Final Struggle” segment of the Ahriman encounter.
