PS5 PlayStation Store to Introduce Accessibility Tags for Players; Feature to Launch This Week

The PS5 PlayStation Store is getting a new feature that will allow players to quickly browse accessibility options that games may have from the store page. Known as Accessibility Tags, the feature will be rolling out for various games, including popular titles such as Ghost of Tsushima.

Here’s an example of what the Accessibility Tags look like in the PlayStation Store:

The tags are found at the right of the game’s store page, though you’d need to press a couple of buttons to browse them. These include text-related tags (Clear Text, Large Text), audio-related tags (Audio Cue Alternatives, Directional Audio Indicators), and more.

Here are all six Accessibility Tag categories that will be implemented in the feature:

  • Visual accessibility features, such as clear text, large text, color alternatives, audio cues and directional audio indicators.
  • Audio features, such as volume controls, mono audio, screen reader and visual cue alternatives.
  • Subtitle and caption options, including subtitle size, clear captions, and large captions.
  • Control options, including button remapping, thumbstick sensitivity, and ability to play without button holds, rapid button presses or motion control.
  • Gameplay options, such as difficulty settings, skippable puzzles, simplified quick time events, and game speed.
  • Online communication options, such as text or voice chat transcription and ping communication.

Accessibility Tags will roll out sometime this week, with supported games including Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, Returnal, God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, and many other titles. Do note that this will only be available on the PlayStation Store on PS5 consoles, not on PC or PS4.

If there’s a new firmware update rolled out for this, we’ll let our readers know.

New Overwatch 2 Hero “Liveweaver” Revealed as Flower-Themed Support Hero; More Details to Follow Tomorrow

Overwatch 2’s getting a new Support hero added to the game’s roster soon. A recent announcement has revealed that the next Overwatch 2 hero is Lifeweaver, a Support hero that seems to use flowers as part of their abilities.

Here’s the official tease via the Overwatch Twitter account:

https://twitter.com/PlayOverwatch/status/1642958969978101775

While we don’t know precisely what Lifeweaver’s abilities are, the tweet mentions that we’ll learn more about this hero “tomorrow,” so expect a trailer or something similar within the next 24 hours. Based on the hero’s design, Lifeweaver is likely a ranged Support hero like many of the other heroes in the role. The petals behind Lifeweaver’s back may also serve a more practical purpose than just decoration.

Lifeweaver is the first of many Support heroes coming to Overwatch 2 in the foreseeable future. As mentioned by a dev last January, Overwatch 2 will be introducing more Support heroes for a while, with a ratio of two Support heroes for every one DPS and one Tank hero. The next Support hero after Lifeweaver will also be a Support hero, so Tank and DPS players will have to wait a little bit longer before they’re able to try out something new from the game’s roster.

Once we learn more about Lifeweaver, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

“Outbreak: Shades of Horror:” New Gameplay Trailer Shoots Out for Unreal Engine 5 Co-op Survival Horror Game

Dead Drop Studios has released a new gameplay trailer for Outbreak: Shades of Horror, a new Unreal Engine 5-powered title in its “Outbreak” series of survival horror games. The game features a large cast of unique “real-world survivors” in their struggle to escape a zombie apocalypse in their city.

Watch the Outbreak: Shades of Horror gameplay trailer below:

Outbreak: Shades of Horror hearkens back to what the developers describe as “the golden age of survival horror in the late 1990s and early 2000s,” with multiple connected narratives that were experienced through multiplayer co-op. To this end, the game includes a large cast of fleshed-out “survivors” with individualized backgrounds and unique abilities, developed for players to combine their strengths in a co-op setting. From the developers:

Experience the opening hours of a viral undead outbreak in the city of Cypress Ridge in September 1999. Choose from a wide cast of everyday citizens, each with their own unique abilities, traits and storylines as you work together with up to three friends online or via local splitscreen to escape the undead apocalypse. Choose your team members carefully, as different characters will be able to access different areas of the game.

Your group will need to scrounge for supplies, fight off the undead, and traverse the city as you hope to find a means of escape. Death is only the beginning! As players fall, they are resurrected as zombies who have one goal: kill their former allies Each scenario features branching paths and multiple endings, with your group’s decisions directly influencing their ultimate fate.

They aren’t here to save the day, they just wanna survive…but if you can’t beat ‘em, join’em!

Features

  • Choose from a diverse cast of real-world survivors who find themselves trapped in the opening hours of an undead epidemic.
  • Play the entire game as a first person shooter, third person over-the-shoulder shooter, or in retro fixed camera angles.
  • Use anything you can find to survive, from firearms, to melee weapons and even your bare hands.
  • Dismember the undead with location-specific damage, blasting off limbs or even their heads with a well placed shot!
  • Go it alone, or bring up to three friends along in online or offline co-op across the entire story campaign and all bonus modes.
  • Intense resource management inspired by retro survival horror with a modern interface.
  • Crushing difficulty as you hold off a horde of the undead while desperately trying to escape.
  • Solve puzzles and navigate an environment inspired by a realistic city environment.
  • Modern crafting system allowing you to build new equipment, healing items, and more from the materials you find strewn around.
  • Designed and influenced directly from the community’s feedback to build the ultimate survival horror nightmare.

A concept-stage teaser of the game can be played on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Those interested can pitch into Outbreak: Shades of Horror’s development here and receive different tiers of bonuses for doing so.

WWE Merging With UFC Parent Company Endeavor

UFC parent Endeavor Group Holdings has announced that it is merging with WWE “to form a $21+ billion global live sports and entertainment company” that will be publicly listed later this year. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2023.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are the world’s premier mixed martial arts and professional wrestling promotions respectively. Both brands have engaged in marketing rivalry and athletes have been crossing over between the two promotions for years. Now, UFC parent Endeavor is seeking to merge the two in a massive transaction that will leave it with a 51% controlling interest in the new company, while existing WWE shareholders will hold the remaining 49% afterwards. Notably, WWE boss Vince McMahon will carry over his WWE Executive Chairman role to the new company, and the UFC’s iconic head Dana White will continue in his role as UFC President.

McMahon stated:

Given the incredible work that Ari and Endeavor have done to grow the UFC brand – nearly doubling its revenue over the past seven years – and the immense success we’ve already had in partnering with their team on a number of ventures, I believe that this is without a doubt the best outcome for our shareholders and other stakeholders.

Together, we will be a $21+ billion live sports and entertainment powerhouse with a collective fanbase of more than a billion people and an exciting growth opportunity. The new company will be well positioned to maximize the value of our combined media rights, enhance sponsorship monetization, develop new forms of content and pursue other strategic mergers and acquisitions to further bolster our strong stable of brands. I, along with the current WWE management team, look forward to working closely with Ari [Emanuel, CEO Endeavor] and the Endeavor and UFC teams to take the businesses to the next level.

No announcements have been made regarding the future of the two promotions’ video game properties, which are developed by fierce competitors EA (EA Sports UFC) and 2K Games (WWE 2K). Stay tuned here at MP1st for all updates and announcements concerning both franchises as the merger closes later this year.

Report: Cheaper Xbox Series Storage Cards Made by Western Digital Surfaces Online

If you’re looking for a cheaper way to upgrade your Xbox Series X|S storage space, that might be incoming soon, as a listing for Xbox Series storage cards made by Western Digital has surfaced online. and they’re significantly cheaper than what’s available out there.

The listing comes from Best Buy (now pulled), which shows a Wester Digital 1TB expansion card for the Xbox Series X|S for $179.99, and is the first time an Xbox expandable storage card not made by Seagate has surfaced. For reference, the Seagate storage cards for the Xbox Series are priced at $219.99 for 1TB, and there are also 512GB and 2TB variants as well. Unfortunately, these cards have remained high in price even after all these years.

In comparison to the PS5 which uses an M.2 SSD for expandable storage, there are multiple companies manufacturing it, and we’ve seen 1TB and even 2TB models drop in price significantly since the console’s launch.

Of course, with this not being official, we’ll need to wait for Microsoft to confirm or debunk this. However, if you’re looking to shore up your Xbox Series’ storage space, I suggest waiting if you want to save, since most online retail listings that leak tend to be legit. Don’t be surprised if we hear the official announcement surface soon.

Destiny 2: Lightfall Review – Left Stranding

Destiny is now entering its tenth year of release, and that journey has been filled with plenty of ups and downs. Following the wildly successful release of The Witch Queen expansion last year, Bungie’s decade-long journey is quickly approaching its conclusion.

With Destiny 2: Lightfall being the penultimate expansion in the light and dark saga, there were plenty of questions left to be answered as the final clash with The Witness drew near. With an all-new subclass, the return of an old foe, and a brand new neon-soaked destination, expectations were at an all-time high. The big question here is: does it live up to it? Read on to find out.

What The Veil is Going On?

Destiny 2: Lightfall picks up immediately after the end of Season of the Seraph. The Witness has arrived in our solar system and is mounting a full-on assault on the Last City. Rumors of an all-powerful weapon hidden away on the surface of Neptune have reached the Vanguard. Osiris, along with the Guardians, makes for a last-ditch effort to secure The Veil and fight back against The Witness. When they arrive, they discover a secret civilization in the city of Neomuna, along with a mysterious new dark power known simply as Strand.

Any review of Lightfall must begin with Strand. This is the second new Darkness subclass Bungie has introduced and, by far, the most exciting addition to the game. With its mysterious thread-weaving powers, the subclass is highly focused on mobility and weaving powerful weapons from the threads that surround us.

Strand is a blast. As the old saying goes, “any game is better with a grapple,” and that rings true here. Zipping around Neomuna is exciting, and finishing things off with a powerful slam ability into a large group of enemies never gets old. It adds a whole new dimension to the game and, with its powerful build crafting potential, is a genuinely viable addition to your arsenal for even the most difficult of activities. The Warlock’s Broodweaver subclass focuses on summoning a threadling army to attack your enemies, while the Hunter’s Threadrunner is hyperfocused on mobility with a powerful new roaming super. Titans, as usual, are all about meleeing everything in sight, but new builds, such as the infinite suspend build, are a potent option for endgame activities. Strand is the single biggest highlight of LIghtfall and is a fantastic addition to the game.

Much has been made about Lightfall’s story since its release. It’s certainly a step down from The Witch Queen and even some of the seasonal storylines we’ve had over the past year or two. “What is the veil?” has become a running joke at this point, and it’s true that this all-powerful object that everyone seems to be going after isn’t explained a single time during the main campaign. Given that most of the campaign is spent chasing after this mysterious object, it certainly would have done some good for Osiris and the new Cloudstriders Nimbus and Rohan to take a few minutes and explain what exactly it is.

With that said the criticisms of Lightfall’s story have been a little overblown in my opinion. Part of it is due to just how good The Witch Queen’s story was. On the other hand, though, I enjoyed Lightfall’s campaign for what it was — an introduction to the Strand subclass, the city of Neomuna, and to the story beats we’ll be seeing over the course of the next year. I’ll admit, there isn’t enough doom and gloom for how dire the situation is at the start of the campaign, and there are certainly some questionable decisions throughout the story. Lore buffs and people who are really into Destiny’s story will likely be disappointed, and there are a lot of questions still left unanswered -– some of which will likely be revealed in the lead up to The Final Shape next year. On the other hand, if the gameplay is important to you, then I think Lightfall’s campaign delivers on that front.

Lightfall’s campaign has some of the most enjoyable and creative mission design and gameplay in the series yet. The addition of Strand unlocks tons of possibilities. I would go so far as to say that I enjoyed playing through Lightfall more than The Witch Queen on a gameplay front. It’s just unfortunate that the story doesn’t quite meet the high bar that Bungie has set over the past year or two.

Some other big shake-ups introduced with Lightfall are the quality of life and systems additions. The new Loadout system has been an absolute godsend, allowing you to customize and save your own personally tailored loadouts, and swap between them on the fly. There have been ways to do this in the past with third-party tools like Destiny Item Manager, but these were clunky, and it’s just way more convenient to have them built right into your inventory. This is perhaps one of the most useful additions Bungie has added in years and will be an invaluable tool for both new guardians and veterans alike.

On the flip side, Bungie has also added the Guardian Ranks and Commendations system. Guardian Ranks are a sort of pathway to becoming the ultimate guardian and were introduced as a means to guide new players on what they should be doing next. It’s an interesting idea in theory, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Because the ranks reset every season, there is little sense of long-term accomplishment and almost no reason to grind them out aside from a little number next to your name.

Commendations are a similar story. After nearly every activity, a new post-action report allows you to give your fellow fireteam members a commendation, with awards like “Patient” or “Thoughtful,” acknowledging them for being a good teammates. On paper, they’re a nice idea, but Bungie has decided to attach progression systems like the aforementioned Guardian Ranks to them. To hit Guardian Rank 9, one must hand out 1290 commendations (and that’s after the amount was quickly lowered due to negative feedback). Making these a requirement for things like powerful rewards and long-term progression systems utterly defeats the purpose, and players are already finding ways to game the system to get as many as possible quickly. Again, it’s a nice idea on paper to give players a way to acknowledge good teammates, but as it is now, it is simply a means to an end.

Destiny 2 Lightfall is somewhat of a mixed bag for me. While the Strand subclass is incredible, and I’ve been really enjoying actually playing the game, the story leaves a lot to be desired, and some of the new additions seem a little half-baked. The new Vow of the Disciple raid feels more like a strike due to how easy it is while exploring basic patrol zones on Neomuna feels like a death trap. If a new player asked me if this is the time to jump into Destiny 2, my honest answer would probably be no. The Guardian Ranks system is a step in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done to make the game easier to get into. As a veteran player, I’ve been enjoying my time, though, and hopefully, Bungie can get things back on track in time for The Final Shape.

Score: 7/10

Pros:

  • Strand subclass
  • Enjoyable and creative mission design
  • Gameplay additions like the loadout system

Cons:

  • Story
  • Commendations and Guardian Ranks system
  • Difficulty balance

Tekken 8 Leroy Smith and Asuka Kazama Gameplay Trailers Kick Off From Evo Japan 2023

At today’s Tekken 7 EVO Japan 2023 Finals, Bandai Namco Entertainment unleashed two new Tekken 8 gameplay videos, and this one features Leroy Smith and Asuka Kazama!

Check out the two fighters’ official gameplay trailers alongside some background reading on both.

Debuting at Tekken 7, Leroy Smith was introduced in the game’s third Season Pass.

Biography (via Tekken fandom):

Leroy grew up in New York until, as a young boy, his lost his entire family to gang violence. An all out gang war in which even police and politicians were on gang payrolls escalated and turned the streets into a warzone. Leroy’s family were killed in the crossfire and Leroy himself was badly injured. This was likely the moment when Leroy sustained a lasting injury in his right eye, which appears to be blind, and may also be why he now uses a cane. During the violence, an injured Leroy fell into a river and was swept out to sea. Fortunately, Leroy was picked up by a passing trade ship, who took him in. He worked as a trader, travelling all over the world, until one day he witnessed Wing Chun in Hong Kong, and decided to stay and learn the martial art.

Asuka Kazama was introduced in Tekken 5 and has been in every major Tekken game since. She is the cousin of Jin Kazama and the niece of Jun Kazama.

Biography (via Tekken fandom):

Asuka is a member of the Kazama family and a pracitioner of Kazama Style Traditional Martial Arts. She was trained in her family’s traditional martial arts style from a young age, and always possessed a strong sense of justice. She became well known around Osaka for breaking up fights in the neighborhood.

Remember when Leroy was overpowered in Tekken 7? Yeah, let’s hope that doesn’t happen again. If you want to check the rest of the official gameplay videos released for Tekken 8, head on over here. There’s also a huge 30-minute video of Harada explaining some of the new gameplay mechanics in the game that’s well worth a watch.

The game will launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S though there’s no release window given just yet.

MLB The Show 23 Review – More Than a Game

The launch of sports games has become an annual tradition that many fans have used as the punchline of a joke. Sure, new iterations of sports games tend to have the latest graphics and mechanics, but they’re mainly a glorified roster update. That isn’t the case with MLB The Show 23.

Already praised for being the most authentic baseball simulator available, this year’s game introduces the Negro League Storylines that teaches fans about key iconic Black ballplayers that influenced the sport today.

In addition to that, the gameplay feels

Remembering Forgotten Stars

The newest mode in MLB The Show 23 is without a doubt its best. The Negro League Storylines highlights eight black players who impacted the sport in several ways: Satchel Paige, Hilton Smith, Rube Foster, Hank Thompson, Buck O’Neil, Jackie Robinson, John Donaldson, and Martin Dihigo. Without these historic people, baseball wouldn’t be the sport we all know and love today.

Rube Foster standing on the field

Most fans recognize Jackie Robinson’s name immediately, as he was the first Black player to break the color barrier and play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. But what about John Donaldson, the man who likely invented the Slider? Or maybe Rube Foster, the man who formed the Negro Leagues in the first place? These are baseball’s greatest pioneers, and MLB The Show 23 does a beautiful job of telling their stories and making sure their sacrifices and triumphs aren’t forgotten.

Each player will have eight or nine episodes that contain situations in their career. You’ll complete the tasks in each episode while also learning about the impact they made on baseball. After completing each player’s episode, you’ll receive their player card to use in Diamond Dynasty.

Major League Dream

Besides the Negro Leagues Storylines, MLB The Show 23 offers the same game modes as previous iterations: Road to the Show, Diamond Dynasty, March to October, and Franchise. While it might seem uninspiring to see the same stuff, maybe it’s just really great stuff that doesn’t need any changing at all? Road to the Show remains a top career mode as you try to achieve your MLB dreams.

Road to the Show drafted

Being a two-way player is the recommended way, as you get to experience pitching, fielding, and hitting, you’re welcome to choose any position to play. Once you finish customizing your character, you’ll be drafted to a team (probably your favorite one) and begin your career. You’ll need to complete tasks to unlock new equipment and Perks to help increase your attributes. It might be hard sledding at first, but when you finally get the call to the majors, it’ll all be worth it.

Controlling Teams

But if Road to the Show isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always Diamond Dynasty or Franchise. Franchise remains the standard team-building mode, with you taking control of a team and trying to win a World Series. You can choose how much control you have over the team when it comes to setting lineups, scouting, and dealing with free agency. The level of customization in how much or less control you have over the team allows you to dictate how complex it is. For seasoned players, you might choose to have the budget on and figure out ways to increase the revenue. That’s a bit too much for me, but it’s nice having the option.

Controlled team

The other team-building mode is Diamond Dynasty. It incorporates card-collecting into team-building by creating a team based on cards you unlock in packs. You can customize the team by changing the name, jerseys, and stadiums in which you play. There are missions to complete that will earn you XP and the Stubs currency for you to use to purchase more card packs. The XP is applied to a general reward path, and you’ll receive prizes as you play games.

Diamond Dynasty has mini-seasons with 28 regular season games that are three innings long if you want a more traditional baseball experience. Conquest is more of a board game-style experience where your goal is to control the entire map. There are online modes as well, with special timed events and missions that reward team-specific unlockables. All in all, there is tons of content to play through in Diamond Dynasty, and no matter what you play, you’ll be earning XP toward various rewards.

Verdict

Even though annual sports games are becoming more of a joke, MLB The Show remains an impeccable product. It offers several ways to enjoy the baseball experience, whether it’s creating your own character in Road to the Show or trying to build a championship team in either Franchise or Diamond Dynasty. But the most important part of MLB The Show 23 is the Negro League Storylines. San Diego Studios should be praised for telling the amazing stories of baseball’s forgotten stars. It’s features like this that transform a game into something more than just random pixels on-screen, and that’s exactly what MLB The Show 23 managed to do. San Diego Studio didn’t just manage to craft a good baseball game, but something special that goes beyond the sport it represents, which is no small feat for any title, more so for an annual sports game.

Score: 9.5/10

Pros:

  • Negro Leagues Storylines
  • Road to the Show Skill Set and Perks
  • Earn XP through any mode
  • Soundtrack

Cons:

  • Diamond Dynasty jersey customization is almost unusable
  • No place to just look at all the rosters
